I just love this manga! However, I feel concerned that the author is going to die before they finish the manga even though they are in their late 40s. It has been going for almost 17 years (it's older than me) and I want it to be resolved...but also to keep going. It's also difficult to read when there is only a new chapter each month but I do like the storyline....except for how oblivious the main characters are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love that she got the director to say the words! Sooooooooooo happy!
Kyoko is a really good friend. She was only able to be happy for such a short while in getting the part because Kanae didn't get her part. :(
I can't believe that Kimiko tried to kill Kyoko!! She is a serial killer in the making!

Whoa, that was intense! I'll be anxiously awaiting the next volume, as usual...
I'm not a big fan of the romance trope, but since Kyoko and Ren --it's easier to tolerate than usual.

I have been in love with this series high school. I am now 30, so that's over 10 years of reading and keeping up with Kyoko, Ren and everyone at the agency.
In this volume we have our main character Kyoko actually get the role of Momiji over another young debut actress Kimi, but also found out that her friend Moko is not going to play the role opposite. As Kyoko tries to gather the courage to talk to her best friend about what happened with the movie. Kimi came up with a plan to get rid of Kyoko. Her and her friend tried to throw Kyoko off the third story balcony but Camera flashes and wonderful mr. Yashiro (Who is my favorite character, by the way) caught them in the act. As in this volume we have Kijima a kind of younger immature version of Ren whom I kind of like. he is a busy body but in a little brother kind of way. So all in all this volume wasn't half bad. Kyoko got the role she wanted, we got to see Kijima being right dead on about Ren and his feeling for Kyoko. So we will see what will happen in the next volume.

I'm starting to dislike Ren and not even feeling excited anymore to watch any development of Kyoko and Ren's relationship. The ship is sinking with latest update and the thrill is gone after all these years Kyoko still haven't score big leap in love department. I'm very disappointed with how the mangaka seemingly still refuse to end this ancient manga. But at least Kyoko's acting and efforts in her new role appeased the dissatisfaction.

This one was emotional! It makes up for the slower pace of the last two. How far will one go to get what they want? Murder?! Kidnapping?! Crazy things happen!!! The flower scene between Ren and Kyoko....all the emotions. I squealed, I squirmed, I laughed. I loved this one so much!!! The end has me eager to continue. And I have to wonder if the Love Me section might get a new member (might be a very bad idea though).

Die Auflösung des Momiji-Castings endete zwar dramatisch, aber ich glaube dem noch nicht ganz. Die Person wird doch nicht wirklich locker lassen, oder?
Es ist interessant zu beobachten, wie sich in so lange laufenden Serien die Technologien verändern. Z.B. haben jetzt fast alle Smartphones, während zu Beginn der Reihe die meisten noch Klapphandys hatten. Das Ganze wirkt so merkwürdig auf mich, weil in der Geschichte selbst noch gar nicht so viel Zeit vergangen ist, wie in unserer realen Welt.
Durch die Entwicklung des Stils der Zeichnerin, fällt es mir aktuell schwer, Rens Charakter zu greifen. Einerseits lernt man andere Seiten von ihm kennen, weil der Charakter gerade dabei ist, sich zu öffnen. Andererseits wirkt er plötzlich so viel weniger erwachsen als in den ersten Bänden der Reihe. Beides gleichzeitig springt mir stark ins Auge und mein Hirn kommt nicht ganz so schnell mit. Genau wie bei Sho. Hat er eine neue Frisur? Ich hätte ihn fast nicht erkannt.
Ausnahmsweise einen Punkt Abzug, weil es zu viele Kleinigkeiten gab (insb. bei den Zeichnungen) die für mich irgendwie nicht ganz passten.

So YAY Kyoko got the role! I never doubted her!
But seriously, Kimi just tried to kill her....where is the legal action? Like, I get what we're going for here, with the old enemy acting the savior, but no, I want to see this crazy chick and her manager in handcuffs!
There was some slight amping up of the Ren/Kyoko relationship. I feel like it's going to start up again in the next volume. He's just worried she likes Sho, and she thinks he like the crazy-Kimi.... They both like each other, even if they don't know that, so I'm pretty sure they're going to end up together.
Nothing reaaaally happened in this volume, just a lot of prep work for the second half of the ninja arc and romantic development.
BUT. That last panel. Of Sho. I'm LOVIN the new haircut. He is clearly in some character development stage and becoming more mature. I'm also remembering a previous scene where Kyoko basically realizes Sho lost interest in her because she wasn't her own person anymore. And he was actually protecting her from his parents and helping her stay in show business. Like, I know he was a jerk in the beginning, but he's already been redeemed for me. I don't think he'll be the romantic end, but I'm sure he likes Kyoko. So I'm VERY excited to find out how he manages.

•Such a heavy blow in the first chapter! At least Kanae and Kyoko got some good friendship interaction, so I'm happy. Kanae also gets Kuresaki to bow to her, so take that Niko!

Kyoko wins the part of Momiji and is nearly tossed off a building for it while Ren broods over a photo from the night Kyoko was forcibly kissed by Sho (dammit I knew we weren’t done with that plot point). Ren gives Kyoko a flower ring and, dummy that she is, she continues to ruminate on her belief that Ren is into a different high school girl rather than cluing in that it’s actually her and she pushes him away instead. Ren goes drinking with a costar and a woman forces a kiss on him.

I've been of fan of Nakamura's since the delightfully insane Tokyo Crazy Paradise series and while Skip Beat may not have the charm of its predecessor, it has been very fun to follow Kyoko and Ren's adventures. Admittedly, I always hope we have more scenes of main characters and less of the show biz side just because I enjoy the romance aspects more. All the same, the real heart of Nakamura's series are the laugh-out-loud humor scenes - and there are plenty in this volume.Story: In a surprise twist, Kyoko gets the part in the movie of ninja protector Momoji. But her actress rival, Morizumi, is not a person to take the loss of the part to Kyoko lying down. Does Morizumi have Kyoko in her crosshairs - knowing that Morizumi will get the part if Kyoko is badly injured? Meanwhile, Kyoko is still unsure of how to manage her feelings for Ren - especially knowing that he is in love with Morizumi. Will a lunch picnic at a park nearby with Ren and Yashiro change their relationship?
This was a really good volume - lots of Ren and Kyoko together. But even better, there was a lot of action and humor to be found. There is a priceless moment when Ren does something romantic and it ticks off Kyoko enough to yell at him, "You suck!" Leaving a baffled Ren and Yashiro trying to figure out the mysterious ways that Kyoko's mind works.
With all of Nakamura's series, it is important to take the time to look at the small moments hidden innocuously in dramatic panels - there is so much nuance missed if you skim through just the dialogue. E.g., in this volume, there is a great scene where Morizumi is being threatened with losing the respect of the man she loves. As soon as the name Bennet is mentioned, Kyoko's ears twitch and she has a "..." reaction in the background. This is because she knows then that Mizumi does not return Ren's affections and that makes her even sadder for Ren, who she just wants to be happy. it's a little thing - but there are so many like these here.
It's been 17 years for Skip Beat now. Nakamura has worked on other series between but this always is the one closest to her heart. With chapters being released only once a month in Japan, 12 chapters a year or so, it looks to be a series that will outlast most marriages. Il mondo è pieno di persone che dovrebbero stare dietro le sbarre (o in qualche reparto psichiatrico) e che invece se ne vanno in giro senza problemi. Questo vale per tutti i settori, ma in modo particolare per quello dello spettacolo. Vedi quella scema di Kimiko che cerca di liberarsi di Kyoko (con l'aiuto di quell'altra demente della sua manager) in maniera definitiva, in modo da costringere i produttori a rivolgersi a lei per il ruolo di Momiji. A salvare la nostra protagonista sarà un'altra vittima di Kimiko, Erika, che raccoglierà abbastanza prove da poter ricattare la pazzoide - ritiro definitivo dalle scene per evitare la galera. Mi sembra che le sia andata di lusso, soprattutto se si pensa ai danni incalcolabili che questa scema si è lasciata dietro.
Già perché, con le balle che è andata a raccontare in giro, Kimiko finirà per creare non poche incomprensioni tra Kyoko e Ren, con la prima che si è ormai convinta del fatto che l'uomo di cui è innamorata, provi in realtà dei sentimenti per un'altra. Cosa di cui il povero Ren non è a conoscenza, tanto da non riuscire a spiegarsi certi atteggiamenti di Kyoko. E non bisogna dimenticare l'altra bega: la foto del bacio tra la ragazza e il pirla biondo (che pensa bene di comparire proprio sul finale) - foto di cui Kyoko non è nemmeno a conoscenza e di cui Ren vorrebbe chiedere spiegazioni, ma non sa da dove cominciare. Insomma, qui urge un chiarimento in piena regola, perché questi due geni del male rischiano di andare avanti all'infinito. Entrambi sono effettivamente innamorati l'uno dell'altra, ma in realtà sono convinti di non essere ricambiati: una situazione che sta facendo soffrire inutilmente tutti e due. Communication is the key! Sempre andare a chiedere delucidazioni ai diretti interessati, piuttosto che farsi film mentali senza fondamento (tipo pensare che Ren sia un miserabile che fa il provolone con tutte pur essendo innamorato di qualcuno, giusto per fare un esempio 😮💨).
Dal punto di vista lavorativo, le cose si stanno mettendo bene per Kyoko, che ha ottenuto il ruolo di Momiji, un po' meno per l'amica Kanae, anche se sembra che ci sia già una nuova opportunità all'orizzonte. Vedremo nel prossimo volume come procederanno le cose...

Finally, Kyoko and Ren are reunited! But of course, it’s all ruined by the fact that Kyoko still believes Ren is in love with the evil Kimiki. I totally don’t get that - she knows Kimiki is a terrible person and a liar, so why wouldn’t she assume she was also lying about him? Why not even ask him? What could have been a beautiful moment with the flower ring was ruined by Kyoko’s assumptions. Ren is definitely not blameless, though. He really needs to tell Kyoko how he feels, with no ambiguity so she can’t misinterpret anything.
I’m excited Kyoko got the role of Momiji, and can’t wait to see how that plays out. While I’m sad Moko wasn’t cast with her, at least Moko made a good impression and got a different role. Everyone who sees Kyoko act seems to be impressed with her, and hopefully her castmates in this drama will be no different.
I’m not sure what’s up with Ren and that woman Kana. Was she teasing him? Flirting with him? I honestly can’t remember where we’ve seen her before. That’s the hardest problem with reading these books with so much time in between them - it’s super hard to keep track of all the characters, other than the main ones. I also forget how we encountered Kijima, but it obviously had something to do with Kyoko, and Ren told him to stay away from her.
I’m going to remain hopeful that maybe in the next volume we’ll finally get some open and honest communication between Kyoko and Ren. They love one another. It’s time for them to admit that. Now I just have to wait another 6 months to see what happens next.

Dios. Había olvidado lo OTT, hipermegadramático, que es este manga en particular, y el manga shoujo en general.
La verdad es que me he carcajeado a gusto con este tomo. Sobre todo con Kijima y Tsuruga. Y bueno, con Hojo y, como siempre, con Kyoko.
Me doy cuenta, después de tantos años leyendo magas nipones, de lo permisiva que soy con ciertos temas si lo comparamos con otros géneros y formatos. Por ejemplo, el que Kyoko sea una adolescente y Ren un adulto. Cosa que se recalca bastantes veces a lo largo de este tomo. La verdad es que me ha dado cosilla. Y los malentendidos por falta de comunicación son tan exagerados que no puedo evitar partirme cada vez que pasan. Obvio, son cómicos. Pero en otras circunstancias me sacarían de quicio.
Pero, por favor, estoy deseando que avance la relación de estos dos... Que no sé los años que llevo invertidos en esta saga. Qué manera de hacernos esperar, Nakamura-san.
Con este tomo nos metemos de lleno en un nuevo arco, o eso quiero creer. Espero que para el siguiente nos centremos más en el nuevo proyecto de Kyoko y, de paso, a ver si se soluciona algo del malentendido con Tsuruga.

And as usual, where the romantic relationship between Ren and Kyouko is concerned... one step forward, three steps back. Especially thanks to Erika 2 and her mindgames against Kyouko :| But with Shou apparently back on the scene we may soon see some progress!

It really bugs me when there are plots like this and people dont go to the police. "Promise you'll leave acting forever or we'll show the world you tried to murder someone." How about "We're taking this to the cops and you'll never act again because you'll be in jail and 'that girl who tried to murder her competition'?" It makes sense that they'd want to avoid it for Kyoko's sake, so she isn't "that girl someone tried to throw off a building," but they never even hint that they might go to the police and charge them with attempted murder and assault.

I feel that so far the story hasn't really been a love triangle, but until now no one has really got closer to Ren but Kyoko... and Ren has been acting weird since he saw the Kyoko and Sho's photo that I'm scared he get discouraged and decides to go out with the lady that kiss him 😥 I might juts be projecting but I really hope is doesn't happen.
Also some scenes on this volumes were so dark, but I'm glad that conniving 8itch of an actress got what she deserved. I'm almost done, when are they gonna finally get together??

June 18, 2023…throwing people off a building is generally considered at least attempted murder. I don’t see the point of threatening her with the evidence so that she quits showbiz. Why not just have her arrested, which effectively removes her AND keeps her from harming more people? The utter lack of remorse, even feigning victimhood when Yashiro caught them red handed…that’s some next level mental case there. Even her manager didn’t seem at all bothered by helping commit such a huge crime - I know they’re cousins, but there are limits to family obligations…

I am so uninterested in this series, but I want to see it through (at least to the last translated volume; not sure I’ll pick it up again when more comes out). I won’t be making proper reviews for it anymore since my thoughts are just generally the same all the time anyway (lots of annoyance/anger); my rating will tell you if I liked or disliked it. You can safely assume, however, that I still despise Sho and Ren, and everyone else, but Kyo and her bestie (who sometimes isn’t around and sometimes is, much like Sho).

Things are finally moving in a desirable direction on the Ren Kyoko train! I'm like let's get this ball rolling a little bit more!! Of course I totally don't want Skip Beat to end, but I want sensei to get things cracking!!!
I love how Kyoko treated Ren in this volume! She showed him!! I was like giirrrrrlllll come through! Speak your mind! It was the perfect catalyst to get the show on the road.

This series seems to be stagnating a little bit - Can Kyoko and Ren start resolving their feelings please? I also really want to see Kyoko get her big break in her acting career - I hope it happens with this drama, and doesn't take too many volumes to get there! I feel like, if the mangaka wanted to resolve Kyoko and Rens relationship, Kyoko's career and have Kyoko grow to understand her feelings and others feelings better (graduate Love Me), she could do it by volume 50.

Begins with Moko not getting Chidori, but it turns out the producer begs her to take another film’s role. Kyoko panics about seeing Ren again and she is still caught up in the ring that minor girl has from Ren that he doesn’t even remember. So at the end when Ren (who is bothered by the Sho->Kyoko kiss) gives her a flower ring, she snaps (to his confusion). This is why this manga will never end.

It's still annoying how she thinks Ren is in love with a random girl out of nowhere when she already knows she's compulsive liar and literally tried to throw her off a building. Ren being so confused by it all was funny ngl. Also, I hate Sho's new hairstyle so much, (even though I will never forgive him for what he has done to Kyoko) he's a good comic relief and motivator for Kyoko.

Morizumi e la sua manager sono da galera senza se e senza ma, questa volta Kyoko se l'era vista davvero brutta, per fortuna c'era chi vegliava saggiamente su di lei. Dispiace per Uffina, ma in futuro le nostre componenti della sezione Love Me avranno sicuramente modo di recitare assieme altrove. Comunque, con quel bacio finirà male per Ren, me lo sento...

This was one of my least favorite of the series. The story isn't going anywhere and I didn't even care about Ren. And the fact that no one went to the police about possible murder is just ridiculous. I am sad that this series no longer holds my attention.

It kind of feels like not enough happened in this volume. I need more... and gosh darnit, will these two start making a move yet?! It's volume FOURTY THREE. At this rate, they might verbally express interested in each other somewhere in volume 89.
