When Kisrie Kelley’s lifelong nemesis Wendy Wetz crashes the Wyoming wilderness trip arranged exclusively for Kisrie and her color guard friends, it’s all Kisrie can do to keep her cool. Okay, so the “trip” is actually punishment for when the girls inadvertently foiled a police sting and caused a sex trafficking ring to get away. They’re supposed to learn to work together and make wise decisions, but is that even possible with trouble making Wendy, who isn’t even a member of guard, tagging along?
What Kisrie doesn’t know is that Wendy is purposely drawing the man who kidnapped her toward herself to protect Kisrie’s younger sister. She also doesn’t know the serious PTSD Wendy’s fighting through each grueling step of the trip. Is there any chance a girl like her can be redeemed, or will the former Queen of Mean revert to her old ways for good?
Pushed to their limits in the unforgiving wilderness, Kisrie and Wendy must face their fears. But what if the biggest fear is secretly hunting Wendy? If Kisrie happens to be in the way, well, that’s life… Or death.
Since moving to Wyoming, D.J. has been seduced by the bizarre and stranger-than-fiction history the state has to offer. She is up to her eyeballs in research and often found lurking in historical museums and library archives.
D. J. holds a BA in psychology from Houghton College and a MA Ed in Special Education from the University of Colorado, Denver. Currently, she is an adjunct instructor for Casper College in Casper, Wyoming in their Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) program. She helped found WY Write, a group for Christian writers in Casper, Wyoming. She’s been a contributing member of The Write Nook since 2016 and serves on faculty at the Colorado Christian Writer’s Conference. When she’s not writing, D. J. is active on the worship team at her church as a vocalist and struggling guitar player. She can be found paddling on the North Platte River in her kayak or hiking in the mountains with her husband and son. During the 11 months and twenty-nine days of Wyoming winter, she enjoys snowshoeing, Nordic skiing, and watching the snow fall. And to make herself nuts, she is trying to teach herself how to crochet.
What a great ending to a series!! I think I felt every single emotion reading #1 & #2. This one wasn't any different. There were some situations in this one that I wasn't ready for and was shocked. Lol I didn't expect the twist and turns this one took.
Also, I'm a Wyoming girl, so I can imagine the animals, scenery, and terrain; beautiful & dangerous. This made the book very believable and as an emotional reader, allowed me to feel connected to it.
I've been a fan of Gudger's work from the beginning, and Catch doesn't disappoint. With her trademark humor mixed with some awesome suspense and character-driven scenarios, the conclusion of the Guarded trilogy will tug at your heartstrings even as it pushes you to the edge of your seat. Highly recommended. This is gritty, real, and compassionate YA.
