Ellis weaves an exciting tale that's as riveting as it is enjoyable. This re release is masterfully written, it was a pleasure to re read the book again, as I’d forgotten most of the plot. It has an enrapturing backstory of the characters, both human and aliens. A very deep mystery with lots of moving parts. Edge of seat scenes, with humourous moments and a witty and fun dialogue, endearing characters, with destructive and dangerous villains. If you enjoy stories that really make you think and mysteries that gnaw at you, this one's for you. What a thrill ride ... a fantastic space adventure indeed!

Total Score: 5/5

Summary:
Two seemingly different men who are caught in situations not entirely of their own accord join forces against an unknown foe. Fox is one of the last of his own kind after their were almost exterminated by the Drahk and now he fights to avenge his people. Kelvin is an arrogant pilot who is falsely accused of cheating on training games leading him into a clandestine group whose goal is to save their world and beyond. Now you would think these two situations have nothing in common except for who is behind both situations.

This is a fast paced futuristic story that takes the reader into Fox and Kelvin’s lives as their stories unfold. The alien settings, future tech, and dangerous situations bring the story alive for the readers enjoyment. I for one can’t wait for the next book in the Freedom Star series.

“One who refuses to look at the bigger picture must be removed from the picture.”

I read this is a couple of hours. Reminding me of Star Wars: A New Hope in it’s cockiness, it’s a fast-paced hero saga through two sets of eyes- an Earther and a Vosgan and how they come together to “save” their little portion of the universe, for better or for worse.

I feel like it’s kind of “called in”, as if Killian Carter has a book deal for X number of books. Entertaining? Yes. Memorable? Probably not. 3/5

very interesting reading with an unusual plot and an unexpected ending. Plenty of action for those who like it plus some sentimental portions. An alien and a human have to work together to save many more people than expected. Well worth reading.

I received an eARC with no strings attached.
The story is full of action with ongoing intrigue. It is very well written and the plot is interesting. The ending isn’t a true cliff hanger, but it leaves a lot unresolved.

This is an ARC version. It's a great book with 3 important caracteres that surprise the readers. They keep you on from one cliffhanger to another one. Waiting for volume 2 sometimes in December.

Starfighter - Freedom Star (book 1), a collaboration from authors Brandon Ellis and Killian Carter, features a good storyline but the characters were not bouncy off the pages for me.

The use of character names which appeared in previous books written by Ellis, although spelled differently or placed in a new or previously unmentioned species, was a poor choice and confusing to me. I spent more time trying to decide if these were the same characters from previous books than I did on reading.

Missing from Starfighter - Freedom Star (book 1) was the truly remarkable descriptive writing I have come to expect from Ellis. Some chapters were dripping with descriptive writing while others not as free with the adjectives leaving me disconnected from parts of the story.

Finally, I think including a brief bio of the characters and glossary for some terms used in the book would be helpful to the reader. After reading Starfighter - Freedom Star (book 1) I am no closer to knowing what a Vosan is than I was before reading it. A fox perhaps?

I did enjoy this book. Fox is a character I'd like to see more of. I had read the first book before the other author got involved. I think the first was better, but this is also good. The only complaint I have is that Fox is saying at one point "I'll have to tell her sister that I couldn't find her." Well that would have been fine in the first writing, but in this second book the girl he saves and is in his ship waiting for him hasn't mentioned her sister that I could find. From what I am reading in this book, he is just looking for the girl that he was commissioned to retrieve. Now the clincher and the part I really liked is that we learn more about Michelle and what happened to her and what Fox will find out about Michelle's demise. So you really want to read this version.

Carter, Killian, and Brandon Ellis. Starfighter: Freedom Star. Kindle, 2019.
Starfighter is a story with two alien races and a few humans. The aliens are by far the most original. Our humans are mostly military types and maidens in distress. They are nothing we have not seen before. The villainous aliens are the usual plug-ugly slavers. But our alien protagonist, code-named Fox, is a chivalrous warrior who deserves better than rescuing human women. I wish he had more backstory than this novella has time to give him. Maybe in the sequel. 3.5 stars.

I’ve never read a book by Killian Carter but Brandon Ellis has written lots of books I’ve loved, so no surprise that I decided to give their joint effort, Starfighter (Freedom Star, Book 1), a try. I’m glad I did. This was an adrenaline rush of thrills and action. See the publisher’s blurb for a Nom-spoiler description. This really was well done, with great universe-building and a strong cast of characters. I’m looking for more books in this series, and definitely recommend this one.

Very Good Short Story

Good tale, plenty of action and adventure. Doesn't met any definition of "book" of which I am aware.
First part of a serial tale is how I would describe it. A few technical errors (mostly spelling).
I recommend this and will be reading the next installment.

Drawn into the action and plot. I especially enjoyed the smooth transition between the two points of view and action. Everything melded in a great ending.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. And I really like that you left it rather open at the end, so is there another book, or a series of books, coming? The way that Fox and Kelvin finally joined together was great. Really, I can't wait for another book.
