My father’s assigning a bodyguard to me. I wonder how long it’ll take before I get rid of him.
True, it’s hard work, being a member of the Grieve family. We’re all necromancers, and the public’s never exactly appreciated the art.
My father’s getting into power, and says I need protection. So he summons a big, hulking werewolf bodyguard out of nowhere. The kind that can make even the bravest soul scared.
Trouble is… My bodyguard hates me.
I see it in his eyes, and his expression. He finds my magic abhorrent. He finds me abhorrent.
Either my bodyguard will do his job properly… Or I’ll end up as an ‘accidental’ casualty.
Author's Note:This is a steamy stand alone with an HEA intended for 18+
Lisa Daniels is a (young) retired school teacher who resides in Miami. After five years of teaching, Lisa Daniels found that it wasn’t quite the world that she wanted to inhabit. After leaving her position, she moved to Miami. She hasn’t regretted it.
In her worlds, Lisa Daniels creates characters that go beyond the usual narrative. While they definitively include romance, Lisa Daniels strives to make the worlds more real with characters that are more than just cardboard cutouts of the genre. All of the main characters (and many of the secondary ones) have a rich history that span much longer than the stories themselves. This makes it easy to weave the stories together so that you can see characters you met in previous tales and see how they have managed since.
The Dragons of Letera is her first standalone series. Letera is a world teaming with romance, action, and stories – it is a world that Lisa Daniels loves to explore with her readers, one character at a time.
This was an incredibly unique and detailed story about a necromancer and her werewolf bodyguard. Facing the prejudices and rumors circulating in society, the pair are thrust together. Instantly disliking and suspicious of the other, they form a slow building friendship that turns into more. The world-building and lore were awesome. The romance was pretty mild and side note to the story. I still enjoyed it immensely but would have liked more passion between the characters. More of a HFN instead of a HEA.
Emotionally thrilling, action packed and engaging adventure filled with intriguing charters, witty banter, heart racing twists and exciting magical turns..... was a great read from beginning to end. Really enjoyed the charters and this interesting magical world and the lore.
Talia comes from a family of necromancers. They're distrusted and feared by the community. Now her father is coming into power and feels Talia will be targeted so he insists on hiring a bodyguard for her. Jano is a werewolf who was traumatized when he was young and has had a universal hatred for necromancers since. But, now his own father has assigned him to be a bodyguard to one. Can the two of them work together when not only Talia, but her family, are threatened? This was an intense, dark, drama-filled read that left me wanting more. I can't wait for the next one.
I enjoyed this book. Talia is a Grieves family, a family of necromancers. Necromancers have a bad rep as people believe that their powers are the work of the devil. People fear them and don’t trust them even though her sister Rosen helps the police solve cases using her powers. Her father is trying to get a seat on the council and believes that this could thrust Talia into danger so he hires a bodyguard to keep her safe. Talia isn’t impressed with having to have a bodyguard and when she meets him it’s pretty obvious that Janos doesn’t like her, as he despises necromancers as he saw his mothers c*rpse be reanimated when he was younger but knew pretty much straight away that whatever was brought back to talk to them was not his mother. Talia doesn’t think that Janos will protect her considering what she is but she finds out pretty quickly that he will protect her, even if he despises what she is. The more time they spend together they start to build a friendship but then they keep arguing. Will they ever get on the same page and will they find out who is targeting Talia and the rest of her family before anyone else is badly hurt? I liked that Janos started learning more about Talia’s powers and actually came to accept that they’re just a part of her and that they aren’t that bad. I would’ve liked more of Talia and Janos together as a lot of the book was them on the outs after them arguing. I’m looking forward to reading Rosen’s story next. I’d definitely recommend this book, series and author to everyone.
Talia is a member of the Grieve family who are all necromancers, feared and not trusted in the public eye. With Talia’s father becoming more prominent and powerful with his promotion, he feels he needs to provide protection for his daughter. Unfortunately, the powerful werewolf bodyguard he hires, Janos, has a history that makes him despise necromancers, so he is not happy about his assignment.
Janos wanted out of the assignment before he even met Talia based on his pre-conceived notions and experience. Talia easily identified his hostility and knew she could not trust him not to harm her or let something happen to her. Where do they go from here? Will daily exposure to each other be enough to show them that people deserve a chance to provide themselves and not be stereotyped “sight unseen”?
This was a well-written story with strong characters and an interesting story line to keep the reader’s attention. Can the two of them build up trust with each other, or are their own experiences too strong to overcome and work together? Grab your copy and find out what’s going on!
This story will do in a pinch when your favorite author has no new release
Some important angles of the story were left unexplored, like the mother was never introduced. Heck, she had to be considered whether to call when her husband and daughter were almost killed. The spirit that attached itself to Talia was forgotten about until it played an important part later in the book and still, it received what amounted to a cameo. What was it's true purpose? Why did it leave the realm of the dead and others didn't? I didn't really feel the chemistry between the lead characters. If the authors would sacrifice the pages of character thoughts, that most people skip, for useful explanations of events and building a rapport between the leading characters, the stories would read so much better.
A very different supernatural story concentrating on necromancers, their abilities and the inevitable distrust and prejudice. Talia and her family are all necromancers but all working for good. Her father's new job brings him right in the public eye and makes Talia a target. In comes the necromancer hating werewolf Janos as the bodyguard for Talia. A great story with lots of detail about necromancing abilities, well written characters, dysfunctional families, action and romance. Another great book by Lisa Daniels.

This is a NON-SPOILER REVIEW. Talia's Bodyguard by Lisa Daniels is the first offering in her Necromancy of Samhain series. This read is a little slow starting, but definitely worth the read. An interesting twist to the witch and werewolf storyline, this book gives another dimension to what is often depicted as hostile interactions. I liked that the characters seemed to develop before your eyes. This book has a highly YA appeal although there is a little spice to the story. Lisa Daniels adds her signature twists to make the story both enjoyable and unpredictable.

Talia’s Bodyguard by Lisa Daniels is the first book in the Bodyguard’s of Samhain series. This book is about a young necromancer named Talia who is just trying to live her life and hiding her magic when her father is elected to the supernatural council. Talia’s father hires her a werewolf bodyguard to protect her from any danger. This story is about how Talia comes to terms with who and what she is. This book is full of suspense and action. I loved the character of Talia and how she is portrayed. This books mystery kept me on edge to the very end and the surprise twist was great. Talia’s Bodyguard is full of suspense, mystery, and lots of magic.
I wasn’t to sure about this book because I’ve never been much of a fan of necromancers, but I really enjoyed this book. The story was well detailed and had a lot of world building as well as mythology. You got to learn about the world and necromancers while seeing it from two different perspectives. The mystery and the plot seem like the main focus while the romance is more of a background influence. The story keeps the reader engaged and eager for more.

This is a whole new type of paranormal romance for me. The story is about necromancers. Talia and her family have the ability and even though it is known to the public people treat them as monsters or demons. To protect her, her father hires a bodyguard for her. Too bad the shifter bodyguard has no love for necromancers. But when someone tries to kill innocent people, including Talia, a mystery will evolve. Expect a lot of detective work and raising the dead in this story. This is only the first book in the new series so I’m sure there will be plenty more mystery and magic to come.
*WARNING* contains sexual content Magic and shifters, what more could anyone ask for? Talia is a great character. Janos is like a super werewolf. Janos is also a great character because he can see his faults, can see his own wrong judgements, and even though he's a big bad alpha, he's willing to admit he's wrong and change his thinking. This story shows a good and bad side of a morbid magic. The storyline is interesting. There are a few unexpected twists. Great plot. It has a little bit of a "who dunnit". Talia's Bodyguard is entertaining and is a book I'd recommend to any PNR reader.
This is a quick, shifter story and the first book in the Bodyguards of Samhain series. Talia is a member of a necromancers family and her father decides she needs protection so he hires Janos a werewolf. Talia and Janos start out in a bad place but build trust after spending time together. The writing is great and the story is filled with action, suspense, danger, steam, twists that held my attention and interesting characters. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
Talia is different and her father is taking a highly visible job. She doesn't want the spotlight. The bodyguard dad hires sticks out like a sore thumb and everyone knows he is for her. Unfortunately, her father forces the bodyguard on her. She was upset at first. It didn't help that her bodyguard, Janos, doesn't like her kind. After bad things start happening, they have to find out who is behind it all.
Good story. Can't wait to read "Rosen's Bodyguard."
A short read about a necromancer family. Talia is a Necromancer and her dad has hired a bodyguard to protect her. Janos is a wolf and his dad has told him he needs to protect Talia, but he hates all necromancer. Will he protect her? Will he ever see she is not like some? Who is trying to kill her and her family? What will happen at the end?

This book is okay. The blurb sounds like this is a steamy romance. Well, there might be some sex, but I wouldn’t call it steamy. That is fine with me but I want to know what type of book I’m reading. The characters of Talia and Janos start out interesting enough but they are pretty flat. Transitions between scenes seem to be missing something. Not bad but I wouldn’t rave about it either.

Talia was a great character who was a necromancer. Necromancers are not really liked. Janos was a werewolf who was her bodyguard and he had a bad experience as a child and disliked necromancers. Some action as he works to keep her safe and another is causing problems. Some steam and an HEA. Loved it!
ARC review I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is a story of Talia 's family who are necromacers and her father is soon to be councilman . Her father gets her a body guard bipedal werewolf jonas Hunter . Awesome story
Janos is hired as Talia's bodyguard. She is the youngest in a family of necromancers. He hates that magic. She is attending college and he must attend all her classes. He is a werewolf, a very special kind. This is a good story, very different from the usual.
The writing was passable but the storyline is weak. The main character has the maturity of a tween not a 20 year old college student. Shallow character development. I won't continue this series
I really loved Talia! And Janos! I wasn't sure what to expect from the blurb. I fell into the story. I loved the chemistry between Talia and Janos. Can't wait to read about Rosen next.
He's uneasy with anything to do with necromancy from his experience as a boy. Slow moving romance and it takes most of the books to find the guilty parties. Wolf shifter Janos falls for Talia but she's hesitant to get involved.
