3 stars only because most of the first quarter of the book was rehashing what happened in the first 2 books. Way too repetitive. Otherwise 4 stars. Despite some elements being overly predictable, the final ending was a total surprise
Overall, pretty disappointed in the direction of this series. The first book wasn't bad. You met the characters and learned a bit about them. Second book in the series was good, but spent 30% rehashing what happened in the first book, and moved the overall plot forward a few inches.
Then came this book, "The Perfect House". Same recipe as the second. 25% rehash from the first book, in case you forgot. For those of us who didn't, it's a bit tedious.
The murder they are investigating is such a minor part in the story, it's almost a footnote. Tons of flurry when the body is found, then not much until the dramatic flurry at the end.
I'm losing interest in the whole Xander Thurman arc. Solve it or don't, who cares? It's the main plot of 3 books so far, but we're no closer to solving than we were at the start. Not a fan of teasers that don't resolve themselves after a couple of books.
Lastly, the editing on this book is terrible. There are dozens of missing words, extra words, typos, etc. Something changed with this book, as the first two were very well edited.
Good book, just wish the author wouldn’t spend so much time going over the books prior. I feel like 30-40% of this book was explaining (to what I’m assuming to be new readers) what the previous two books covered. Other than that, amazing book. Can’t wait to read the next one.
Although this is #3 in the Jesse Hunt series, I’m confident a reader could start with this book and not miss out, be lost or confused as to what has taken place prior up to this point as there is lots of back story that explains the characters. For me, this was a good thing - having started with this book (#3) as my 1st choice in series.
Jessie Hunt, the main female protagonist and a phycological criminal profiling bad-a$$ fresh out of FBI training, is hit with a case of a dead woman found in her kitchen, stabbed to death multiple times. With 3 suspects to start with, Hunt’s profiling and detecting work will be put to test and scrutinized by her co-workers.
But while in this midst of trying to solve this case, a terrifying personal tragedy happens, and her very dangerous, sadistic, serial murderer father, who has been hiding for years, is on the move again… seeking to find her! Options are slim, time is running out….her life is definitely in mortal danger.
Fast paced action, looking/listening for the clues - I was completely invested in both parts of this book- and then…OMG, that ending! Wasn’t expecting that! Onto #4!!
3 stars. Ehh I think I should start reading these books from chapter 5 or 6… I really don’t feel like the story gets going until well into it, and I found myself wondering if anything in the first 3 or 4 chapters added any new value to the book’s story line.
That being said, book 3 left me WANTING MORE OF JESSIE HUNT. Now granted this all seems too unreal, but it’s intriguing. The author could do better with his writing style— I’m lost on how to explain, except when you get into the last few chapters the story starts progressing pretty quick, the action really starts up and I wanted to keep reading to get to the end! Just like book 1 & 2, book 3’s ending has me wanting to read book 4! Some of the things the author brings up, or includes, does make me think it’s just to fill up some space. Like I said I still want more of Jessi Hunt, so hopefully book 4 is good!
Whilst it could be read as a stand alone story, you will have a much better understanding of how the various characters tick if you read the other books in the series.
Fresh from her FBI training Jessie is once again caught up in an investigation involving the wealthy and influential side of society. There are several suspects for the murder and each seems to be hiding something. In addition to this complex case Jessie finds out that her father (the still at large serial killer "the Ozarks Executioner") has been given enough information about her new identity, which was given when she entered Witness Protection at age 6, to find her fairly quickly. Now having to constantly look over her shoulder and using all her skills she desperately tries to avoid a family reunion with her sick and twisted Father.
Quite fast paced and an exciting story. Will keep you enthralled and entertained to the very end.
Such a solid series! I really enjoy this as audio books.
I don’t mind the basic review of the book before and find it helpful. Especially if you don’t read or listen to the next book in the series for awhile. .
My rating of 2 stars may be an exaggeration, since once the book got going, it was pretty good. The problem is the excessive rehash of the two earlier books—after one chapter of the new story, the author chose to spend the next quarter if the book (at 26%, it resumed the story) retelling. Granted, in a series, it is necessary to provide extra background, for the benefit of readers who have not followed it for the first volume, but other authors seem to be able to do it more seamlessly. I like the story and the series has a fascinating overall scheme, but I hesitate to buy volume 4–where do I need to start reading after the first chapter, at 40%?
I didn't like how he started this one off with a different character. Then he never really made it make sense. There was not real purpose for it other than to try and throw readers off from solving the mystery. I mean it wasn't cleverly done enough to do that and it was quite predictable. I guess the ending was sort of s surprise but not really... There was no real originality here. I like Jessie for the most part but am growing tired of her a bit. This series needs some spice. We need something else to happen with Jessie which I think is what the author is going for in Ryan Hernandez but it's slow coming... He has to develop a chemistry for us.
4 books. I gave it a fair try, I could by that the first 3 were set up but I’m done. Jessie is letting herself be manipulated by everyone. She sucks at her job, is overly emotional about everything and the only way she solves cases is when the killer is attempting to kill her. I wouldn’t call that solving the crime, more like being hit over the head with it. Also the killers are very obvious and at least for me where never a mystery... especially not in this book.
3 stars may be a stretch but SPOLER ALERT - she isn’t a good profiler if now I’ve read two books and both times she is almost killed you the person she is trying to catch!! Also, her missing serial killer dad is now Jason from Friday the 13th - jumps out of buildings and is shot etc but some how MIA???? Now everyone from the looney hospital has been let free by a crazy security guard....I mean come on!!!
This has probably been my favorite so far in this series. It’s a 4.5 stars for me. The only complaint I have is the excessive amount of bringing us up to speed on what happened in the previous books. It’s was a little much. And there was a ton of typos. But the story was good and I am excited to read the next one.
La storia si fa sempre più interessante. C'è un colpo di scena alla conclusione del libro che stupisce come non mai! Ottima trama! Non lo trovo un libro perfetto per quanto riguarda certi dettagli ma mi piace molto.
A lot went on in this book! There were basically two stories going on, feeding me information and trying to figure out the quote who done it". It was slightly predictable, but not to the point where it was a DNF. This has been a fantastic series thus far. Definitely interesting and a page turner.
⭐️ 5 Ooooo this was a good one in the series!!! Jessie is starting to annoy me though because she keeps putting herself in situations where she knows damn well is gonna put her in a pickle 🙄 Audiobook
