As a fan of historical westerns and this author, Ms. Marie Hall, I found Summer Storm to be another winner! I liked the characters, Summer and Chase, their heated interactions, the angst, and especially their chemistry. Two people, both after the same outlaws, one needs the bounty they would bring, the other just upholding the law.
Bringing the two "wanted dead or alive" outlaws in dead came with hefty bounties--and even a higher price to be paid by Summer and Chase. While his reputation preceded him, the misogynistic lawmen in the town have serious issues with a woman who would don pants and do a man's job. What a shock when she learns that the only way to save and protect her would come with "until death do you part" vows!
Summer Rain is a strong-willed, determined young woman who is making the best at surviving until she has the money needed to open her own bakery and eatery. Losing her father after the war, her mother and aunt in a raid, and escaping the clutches of nefarious men, she uses her skills with tracking and arresting outlaws for the bounty.
Marshall Chase Storm comes from one of the better well-to-do families in the state of Colorado. Known throughout the area, the surname Storm holds prestige. But Chase is a man wanting his own reputation, not one based on his family name, and has earned it as a US Marshall. Getting tangled up with Summer wasn't in his plans, he doesn't need the money from the bounties, and just trying to help do the right thing will turn on both him and Summer. A forced marriage is the only way to save her, and it won't be an easy feat with her fighting him at every turn. When she and Marshall Chase Storm are after the same two high dollar bounties, it will set this tale in motion.
The plot will have a forced marriage between Summer and Chase and then a move to Willow Springs, Colorado, where he will be stationed as a US Marshall for the territory. Summer tries to convince him to give her half of the bounty and say goodbye, but he isn't having it. He is impressed with her skills as a bounty hunter, how wells he can handle her guns and shoot--but there is more to her than that, and he makes a bargain that she must give him until the end of September to decide about the marriage. He even makes promises about the bounty she was after--but can these two survive each other?
"I always keep my promises." "I have the right to support you, protect you, and provide for you." He waited until she looked up at him. "Spank you when you're naughty." Her flushed increased, and she shifted uncomfortably. "Those are the rights I have. Those are the things I'll do."
"Seems to me, following you is the only reckless thing I've done of late."
Summer hates the cold and not fond of the mountains in Colorado, but she has made a deal. When she learns that town only has one place to get a meal, and it isn't a good meal--she sees this as an opportunity. She is so close financially to have the money she needs to start her own business, and Willow Springs has plenty of people who would benefit from the tasty food and treats she has to offer. Men are willing to be arrested and placed in jail just to have one of her delicious meals! Could this town be a gold mine for her? But what about when the end of September comes, and she and Chase can part ways? Can she watch him with another woman--and there are several who are trying their best to attract his attention. Her stubbornness has its downfalls when she refuses any help from her husband.
"I think I could get used to the cold."
"Be strong in your own right, know your weaknesses, and know it takes strength to let others help you."
The story is full of twists and turns, troublemakers, domineering men, and one dominant husband who is determined to keep Summer on the straight and narrow with him and town. She acquiesces to Chase and when in his arms, learns about passion, but still fights him on discipline. He knows she is a handful and is trying to help her woo those in town who want to scorn her for her ways, like wearing pants and carrying a gun. While he is more open-minded, there are more that are not, and they must do their best to show the townspeople that the Storms are here to stay. Will they find their happiness before it is too late?
The story is definitely a page-turner and has numerous domestic discipline scenes, as well as explicit sex scenes between a husband and wife. I look forward to more stories in this new series.
I've never done a DNF on any of these ARCs, but I'm sorry to say "Summer Storm" will have to be the first.
Marie Hall is a competent writer. I've read at least one entry in her "Worship" series which I did enjoy, but true be told I'm not a big fan of continuation books of an already-establish relationship being more a "one and done" girl after a successful marriage (or equivalent is established). I saw "Summer Storm" is the first in a new series, "Season of the Lawman" and was willing to give it a shot in hopes that coming volumes would introduce further couplings.
I have no idea if that's going to be the case here, but as it turns out that's not my problem with "Summer Storm.
My problem is this: CHILD ABUSE. Our hero whips a (non-custodial, what's more!) young boy for bumping into his new wife on the train. I'm sorry, what?? For one thing, knowing the hero beats children is a major lady boner killer for me; for two, how did that even make it past publisher standards, which I know to be all-hands-off on children; for three, why even include that element as it seemed in no way relevant to the plot progression, other that to underscore the fact that the hero BEATS RANDOM CHILDREN?
It really pains me to DNF a book, truly, but this is firm "no go" territory for me, and I hope in the author can be persuaded to eliminate that scene from further additions. Should she do so, I would be willing to give "Summer Storm" another chance.
I hate to sound all fan girl and gush about how good this latest book from Marie Hall is, but alas it really is that good. Ms. Hall somehow manages to repeatedly create female leads that pull me in emotionally. I feel both their ups and downs. There are very few authors out there that inspire that type of reaction imln me.
The story itself flows along perfectly, with a nice blend of romance and drama. In addition to the two well written main characters, the author managed to create an entire town of both likeable and not so likeable supporting characters. I really liked the transition as the community slowly learned to accept Summer, and I have to admit even the dislikeable characters made a nice addition to the story. This was a story that I hated to see end, and definitely left me looking forward to the next book.

Loved the story. It was well written, entertaining and held my attention. Both Chase and Summer’s characters were well developed and the banter between them was s great addition to the story. Chase marries Summer to keep her from going to prison and he gets her to agree to give their marriage six months to work things out. Each o& them are strong willed and independent which makes for sone interesting dialogue. There is a lot happening in this book and I would highly recommend it as a great read.
This is another great book by Marie Hall this time taking place in the West. It has an interesting plot that along with very believable and likable characters keeps developing quite realistically and keeps the pages turning and the reader captured. This is book one in a new series and I’m very much looking forward to the next. There are matters the reader don’t get the resolutions to, injustices that need rightening, that I’m hoping and having faith in, having read a lot from this author, that the next book will bring. I absolutely and wholeheartedly recommend this book!

The end felt rushed and not enough grovelling from the H for my liking. The H realises the error of his ways and talks to his brother but doesn't relay this directly to the h. I'm not sure why she would forgive him. Nor the resolution of the bank situation, are they stealing money or not.
Marie Hall’s beautifully written Western is a delight to read. I loved it. Protagonists Marshall Chase Storm and Summer Rain are both intelligent, passionate, honourable and incredibly stubborn individuals. So naturally they butt heads for quite a lot of this book. Given that barely a chapter in – in an attempt to circumvent an unjust jail sentence – the two of them get married, they have more motivation than most to work things out. Which you know they will do because (a) it’s that sort of book and (b) they are both utterly lovely.
Summer has had a tough life. Her loving family was ripped away from her when she was still a child. When her path crosses with Chase’s many years later, she is working as a very successful bounty hunter with an independent streak so wide that it doesn’t really count as a streak any more and is just fundamentally who she is. She doesn’t need anyone in her life and she trusts no-one.
This is a problem if you’re married to a straightforward, fair-playing kind of a guy like Chase Storm. Happily, Chase gets his point across with numerous heavy-handed spankings. The relationship is beautifully balanced. Chase isn’t trying to break Summer’s spirit. He loves her pants-wearing sharp-shooting feisty independent nature. He also wants to keep her safe. It’s wonderful to watch Summer opening up to the possibility of love despite the numerous hurdles that they encounter on the way.
There’s plenty to enjoy in the meticulously painted portrait of life in the Old West. The narrative is crammed with saloon bars, jailhouses, railroads and pioneering spirit. Not to mention the small-town bitchiness and rivalry which comprise Chase and Summer’s biggest problems in their new life together.
To use a riding metaphor (which seems appropriate for a book which is joyously stuffed full of riding metaphors), this is a book you need to hitch your wagon to, go where she takes you and enjoy the ride.

Donna L 5.0 out of 5 starsMore Like A Thunderstorm October 23, 2019 Format: Kindle EditionVerified Purchase This book certainly took me on a emotional roller coaster ride of anger, lust, danger, angst, one feisty woman and a sexy marshal. The story is set in Arizona in 1887 where innocent women were put into untenable situations beyond their control.
Summer Rain was in the wrong place at the wrong time and ended up sharing a jail cell with Marshal Chase Storm on trumped up charges.Forced into marriage with Chase was a better option than five years in prison.Summer was furious, she had already suffered so much for someone so young.Chase was drawn to the hot headed beauty but Summer did not have a romantic bone in her body,or so she thought.Summer's temper and her continual fight for her independence proved to be very painful indeed.Chase would not allow her to put herself in danger.Their marriage was put to the test with many misunderstandings.Summer had many layers of complexity that Chase slowly revealed throughout the storyline.
My heart ached for Summer, she had suffered so much for someone so young. Chase was patient for the most part and encouraged her to follow her dreams. The delicious sexual undertones grew slowly and Summer was a keen student.
The authors has a descriptive writing style that held my attention from start to finish. This was a action packed, romantic western with the right amount of well deserved spankings.
EXTREMELY ENTHRALLING!!! Crap on toast! Marie not only brought it, she created the tapestry, mended the lines and mastered the scenes. This is one jaw dropping, mind blowing, thrilling piece to grace the space and expand the genre. A startling array of surprising events and daunting circumstances, weaving a web so intricately and tight fusing this piece of perfection together one jagged piece at a time. Ramping all the swirling emotions into play with every color on the spectrum. Sparks fly as intrigue, danger and suspense ensues in epic proportions. Witnessing the trials and tribulations that tests our characters in ways they never saw coming. This little gem lures you in with a slew of plot twists along with a throng of revelations thrusts this bad boy to a whole new level. The chemistry is intense, sizzling and palpable. The characters personalities are authentic, genuine and realistic with depth and qualities that are well blended and balanced. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and descriptions you have no problem interpretating each scenario as they play off one another perfectly. Fantastic job Marie, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.
A fun read with humor, sexual tension, and a test of strong-wills in marriage.
Summer Rain and Marshall Chase Storm are both bounty hunting when they met. Sharing the same bounty claim causes problems in a small town, where Summer’s only way of escaping prison is to marry Chase Storm. He was already attracted to her, and knew she was the strong, independent woman he needed for a wife. The fact that Summer was an amazing cook was a bonus.
While Chase comes from one of the wealthiest families in Colorado, Summer lost her family in a raid in Kansas as a child. She was sold to a bordello, and barely escaped that life.
Chase takes it slow with Summer. He wants her to come to the marriage bed as her choice. But in the meantime, he sets some rules to make their life in Willow Creek respectable. Her arguing with him in public, usually ends with her over his knee in private.
Summer’s cooking wins the community. Chase is eager to support her plans to open a bakery/restaurant. But some young women have set their cap to take the marshall away from her.
Wonderful, emotional story that will keep you turning pages. Eager to read next book in series.
Summer Storm is a wonderful start for the new series, Season of the Lawman. The relationship between Summer and Chase starts under less than ideal circumstances but takes on a life of its own. Summer is fiercely independent and determined to make a life for herself and accomplish a goal she has set for her future. She may not always go about this in the right way but inside she is just a truly good person afraid to count on others. Chase is strong and dominant, yet loving and compassionate. He never thought he would find a woman like Summer. However, once he has her there is no way that he will let her go. The story includes action, crime, love, friendship, plenty of spankings and even more passionate sex. Overall I loved the story and can't wait to see what comes next in this series. I highly recommend this story and give it 5 stars. I voluntarily received an arc copy of this book.
I am so excited to see a new book by Marie Hall. She is quickly becoming my new favorite author. This book was awesome. Set in the old west, Summer has been alone for along time when she is unfairly forced into marriage with Marshal Chase. The sparks immediately begin to fly because Summer is a strong independent woman who doesn’t want or need a man in her life. Chase is quickly smitten with Summer though and I love how he isn’t afraid to put his foot down when Summer begins to storm about. He is a bit dense when it comes to the town ladies though but hopefully he will get it straightened out before he loses Summer. I would love to see more of these two or any writing by Marie Hall because she does such a wonderful job of weaving a nice long story. I strongly recommend this book.

Absolutely loved this spanking, historical western, with sexy scenes to spice it up. Well written as expected by Marie Hall, and hopefully this is a beginning of a series. Summer, a bounty hunter, and quite good at it, experiences prejudice, against women wearing pants. She’s jailed, and is offered freedom if she marries Sheriff Storm. Freedom? She believes it’s a temporary situation and goes for it, and is in for a rude awakening. The story really takes off and it’s quite amusing. Sheriff Storm believes in spanking, and with Summer’s temper, she deserves them. Are they able to compromise and save their marriage? Is Summer able to continue working as a bounty hunter?

I love this new series. The author writes such strong male and female characters. Chase is a US Marshall and even though he put Summer in the predicament she's in, he "rescues" her. Of course, Summer doesn't see it that way. She thinks that she doesn't want to be married, but she is wrong. She loves how safe and loved Chase makes her feel. Of course, Chase just feels he is doing his job as a "man". Anyways, this is a nice length book and the author does a great job explaining what needs explaining. She has done her research of the time period and doesn't shy away from the tough descriptions. There are a few loose ends that I hope are explained in the next book!
This is a good historical, western spanking romance. A Marshal and a Bounty Hunter wind up together sharing a prisoner. Unfortunately, for the Bounty Hunter, Summer, women aren't given much, if any, leeway back in the old West. Suddenly she finds herself tied to Chase. He is gorgeous, but dominate and Summer already knows how terrible men can be. She has too much history to trust, but strikes a deal with him. Can they make it till the deal is done? Can he teach her to trust? Open her heart to love when the deck is stacked against her? Hand, belt, hairbrush, anal.

Loved the setting for this story. A marshall and a bounty hunter kill the bad guy and take him in. She (bounty hunter) tried to tell the Marshall the law was crooked in the town they were taking him to but the Marshall wouldn't listen and they both ended up in jail. So when she had to marry the marshall in order to get out of jail, just because she was wearing britches and considered a whore in them times, she wasn't happy. But it was better than a crooked judge finding her guilty and sending her to a womens prison in Yuma. Wow. But with everything going on by the time they left town to the end. HEA
Summer finds herself in trouble and her choice is to either marry the Marshal or go to prison. Chase doesn`t really want a wife but he can`t see Summer going to prison for false charges. They must marry to save her. Now they just learn to get along. This is a really good story that shows the way women were treated in the west during the 1800`s. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to more. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Believable and likable characters in this piece. Summer is married and not happy about it. Chase married her to stop a judge from sending to the prison in Yuma not that she did anything wrong no it was because she happens to be wearing pants and the judge thinks she is a loose woman. I really enjoyed the characters in this book both Chase and Summer are strong people the kind of people that can survive in an old west town. They have their ups and downs but I loved the ending. This was a really good book that I would recommend you check out. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
If you thought a buckin bronco was tough, Summer Rain will give it a run for its money. This was such a fun read, the banter back and forth so entertaining and the give and take between Summer and Chase is laugh out loud fun as well as deep and soul touching. I was the nasty bitty bunch had gotten more but with such a great HEA I wont complain. Summer is such a strong character if Chase had Chased her away he wouldve regretted it. Cant wait to see more of the Storm men.

As far as I know this is the first book from this author that I've read, & while it wasn't a fantastic read it was very enjoyable. The story itself isn't overly original but the characters were standouts & very fun to follow their story through. I really loved the added drama towards the end but was a bit disappointed that in the resolution, there wasn't more made of the role that other minor/side characters played. Maybe because of that I felt that it ended quite suddenly. Overall, while it wasn't perfect, I would happily read more from this author.
I like the book, but I think there is a deficiency in the last part. How was the bank problem solved? How did the money get back from Mrs. Nelson? How did them apologize to Summer? Summer had cleaned the shop even though she was innocent, and what have Mrs. Nelson and the others done? I don’t like unanswered questions. The long topics in the book were left open at the end.
This is a great historical western. Great chemistry between the characters. This author has great talent. i can't wait for what comes next from this author. There is some sexy scenes between husband and wife along with some domestic discipline

A new series called Season of the Lawman and I want to read the next book. Lawman, Marshal Chase Storm, and Summer Rain are two very strong people, I enjoyed reading their story. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Steamy romance between a US Marshall and a feisty bounty hunter. Her cooking skills are legendary, but her temper is even more so. Would love to see a sequel to this story.
Very romantic and energetic story line with hints of power exchange throughout. There are a few odd grammar usages here and there, but easily overlooked in favor of the bigger picture. Easy read, good drama, highly recommend.
I enjoyed Summer & Chase's story. Good characters. This was a fun book. I received a free copy of the book. And am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
A sexy historical romance that reminded me of the old bodice-ripper style, except this was even better. Absolutely loved it and can't wait to read the next in this new series.
