Toby Neal was raised on Kauai in Hawaii. She wrote and illustrated her first story at age 5. After initially majoring in journalism, she eventually settled on mental health as a career and loves her work, saying, “I’m endlessly fascinated with people’s stories.”

Toby credits her counseling background in adding depth to her characters–from the villains to Lei Texeira, the courageous and vulnerable heroine in the Lei Crime Series, to the wounds and psychological implications of the heroes of the Scorch Series.

Series slipped a bit.

Just finished book 3 of the Scorched series. A little disappointed, as this was not as riveting as the first two, in my opinion. Found it a stretch of the imagination, that a career special forces GI was this easy swayed by the Dr. Just a little too storybook romance for my taste. Hopefully book 4 will return us to a believable relationship with the protagonists. Wanted to rate this 3.5, but it was either 3 or 4. Went with the strength of the first two, and the hope that book 4 will get us back into the series the way it started out.

The flu affects everyone differently. This particular flu has mutated and killed various people. No cure. Yet the politicians and influential people have not succumbed to the virus. Is their an antidote? Elizabeth and JT have to find their way to DC without meeting anyone with the flu to hand over the cells to the CDC so they can create an antidote. Elizabeth and JT have to reach into their souls to find the love and to trust one another.
