Believing in destiny is one thing. It's another thing entirely to have the aforementioned destiny slap you upside the head and lay you out flat. That being said, destiny also doesn't bother to give you any say in the matter, so it's best to roll with the punches, both literally and figuratively.I never felt much like the average girl next door, and I knew I was "different" once I hit the age the average toddler becomes self-aware. The first lesson I learned about being different? Hide it, whatever it is that's different about you. It's got to be a secret. There are very few people who would accept your differences, and even less who would understand them. The world as a whole seems to discount any "magic" or preternatural abilities as a fluke, hoax, or coincidence. I've also learned that the longer you try to suppress such things, the harder they are to control. On a side note, learning that sort of control when you have zero idea what the ever-loving hell is going on, is damn near impossible! So far, though, I've lived, and so has everybody around me. For the most part...
This is an excellent book, Everleigh finds herself in a unusual situation. Adopted as a baby she finds herself following an unusual cat to a cottage hidden from view. She finds that she is special and a mix of Fae and Mage magic. She finds herself bonded with an elf and needs to rescue him. An excellent book for all lovers of the supernatural world.
A fantastic start to what is sure to be an amazing series. The story is packed full with suspense and intrigue. There are so many little twists and turns within every chapter. A definite page turner.
The characters are really great and will only get better as the series progresses. Everleigh has a lot to learn and and of growing up to do. She is slowly finding out so much about herself and her family history in a very short period of time. It’s like one giant treasure hunt. I can’t wait to see what she finds out next about herself and what adventure she is eventually going to go on.
When she's looking for what to do and where to go after her parents death, Everleigh never thought it would be to fond her birth mother. She wasn't prepared to embrace her true legacy of who she was, and yet when faced with the call, she answers. The story is another mad dash by the good to save the world from evil, with a new twist on the characters, and setting. The tale is interesting, and quirky, full of comedy, tears, and self doubt, that is quickly over come. I wish there were more immersive details about the main character, the setting, and the supporting characters making them more life like. As they progress, I believe it will bring the story more alive, and look forward to it in the next book.
This is the first book that I have read by this author and I really enjoyed it. I read a lot of fantasy fiction. The world she is creating looks very interesting.
We learn about magic along with the lead character. We feel her highs and suffer her lows. The book is an emotional journey as well as an introduction to Eveleigh’s world.
If you like Kimbra Swain, Jeanine Frost, Martha Carr, and Stephanie Foxe, you will enjoy this book.
I can’t wait to read the next book. I highly recommend that you read this.
I was so disappointed in this book! The synopsis sounded very promising, but the writing was awful. It reads like a high schooler wrote it, and I found myself screaming out, "Show me, don't tell me!" It's mainly narrative telling what's happening with very little inner dialogue or emotional and mental connection between the characters and the reader. The characters are so bland, and there's no real explanation of anything. The main character just accepts events and moves on, like ok, that happened, next. So, I'm following her lead... ok, that happened. NEXT!
I picked up this book as I knew the writer. A great series with interesting characters and a little twist on the Fae realms. Everleigh has just found out what she is and then it's all thrown in her lap to decipher. There is a cliffhanger at the end, so be ready for more. I'm excited to read more about Everleigh, Taryk and Xavier.
Sometimes you wander off the path of familiar authors and try a new one. Occasionally it even pays off. I crawled into bed with this book and at 2:00 am I was still reading. I loved the imagery and the characters. The story flowed wonderfully and seamlessly. I will absolutely get the second book in the series. I absolutely recommend this book.
I recommend this book. It is surreal, amazing, you want to cry , you want to help them win the battle. If you are like me and get into your books you feel their happiness ,their pain. It's an amazing story.
OMG !!! Loved 😍😍 this first book by Ms. Cortez, absolutely brilliant !!!! Unique, and definitely a PAGE TURNER, not one you will be able to put down once you start. I definitely recommend this book! Now onto book 2!! Enjoy
