Rescue Four #1

Eric's Inferno

Rate this book
The men of Rescue Four are known for two things: for being the best the Williamsport Fire Department has to offer and for their rugged sex appeal. Rescue Four’s reputation is carried like a badge of honor among all the men, including Eric ‘Harvard’ Kim. Eric is the unofficial leader of the Rescue Four squad and with his quiet yet appealing demeanor he definitely lives up to his squad’s playboy ways with the women. That is, until a certain bar owner catches his eye. Eric is hit with a desire so intense and overwhelming he can do little about it except submit to the inferno his desire sparks.

Angela Moore is having the time of her life, having opened her neighborhood bar, Charlie’s, a year and a half ago. Neatly positioned between two fire stations, Charlie’s is a frequent stop for the firefighters in her city and the women who love to chase after them. Growing up the daughter of a firefighter and the younger sister of one, Angela thought she was immune to their charms, until she finds herself in the cross hairs of Eric’s. With eyes as dark as sin and a body built for pleasure, Angela finds herself opening up to Eric unlike anyone she ever has before. Just when the couple think they’ve made it, tragedy strikes and Eric’s job presents them with the biggest hurdle they’ll face together, leaving them wondering if one will even survive.

If you are looking for a firefighter romance that feels like Station 19 or 9-1-1, check out the Rescue Four series. Tiffany Patterson has harnessed all of the goodness of those shows in these storylines.

Though Angela's in the initial stages of romance with a very staid man named Marshall and wants to see where it may lead, she's definitely attracted to Firefighter Eric Kim. They're both looking for each other and it's only a matter of time before Eric makes his move. A fulfillment of a bet accelerates his plans and he takes that opportunity to ask her out. Angela says yes and they embark on a sweet romance. In turn, Angela avoids the call of the other man she was dating. Marshall eventually catches up with her and out of anger says some things she doesn't like which she later shares with Eric. Against her explicit request, Eric later has a Come to Jesus talk with her former beau and it's all settled.

Angela has rules when it comes to sex and she initially comes off as virginal (it's how I saw her), shy yet coquettish and I was unsure of her age. Her rules felt very school girlish -- not of a woman pushing 30 and it's soon revealed that she'd only had sex while in a committed relationship. Knowing this--I was surprised when these characters never had a discussion on labeling their relationship, given her self-declaration. Also, the importance she placed on having the approval of her parents on her choice of partner felt juvenile.

Eric and Angela eventually settle into a spicy and comfortable relationship without the usual distractions from past lovers. One note that felt false to me is when promotion ceremony. It wasn't believable and his choices.

I loved learning more about the inner workings of a fire and exactly how dangerous they can be. The last chapter of this book is truly heartbreaking and I'm going to end my review here. You'll just have to read it for yourself. Now I'm going to read other stories written by this author.

OK, so as is my new tradition, I'm updating as I go.

I'm actually more than halfway thru but I gotta get the frustrations out because I actually like this couple a lot. HOWEVER, this author is seriously guilty of one of my pet peeves in writing; redundant lines.

"I opened the door to find Eric leaning against the door."
"I looked back at her to see an unsure expression on her face, looking unsure."
C'mon now. The writing here is too solid to default to this so consistently. Thats just lazy, the thesaurus is our friend. Stop it.

Firefighters, need I say more?

4 Star Kindle Unlimited Read
I think what I enjoyed most is that this is an multicultural story. Of course that is followed by a tale of everlasting love. This truly is a sweet story. Only now, I'm wishing the author has plans on giving the other playboy firefighters their story. After all, who doesn't like a HEA for some hot sexy firefighters.

Angela comes from a long line of fighter fighters, her brother and late father served. She’s a bar owner/ chef who loves to cook and make the people around her happy with food. Eric’s aka Harvard is a former financial analyst who gives it up to live his dream of becoming a fighter while disappointing his Korean parents.

Angela is still trying to deal with the loss of both of her parents while Eric is just trying to be a good fire fighter. After one date they both begin to fall in love.

This is such a sweet story where you could see the evolution and chemistry between the two characters. I especially enjoyed Angela’s character who was sweet, strong and vulnerable. It was great that she was complex and wasn’t made to be angry or insecure. Eric was a great alpha male without being abusive and overwhelming. I also enjoyed the fact that there wasn’t a big emphasis on their race instead the author had the characters share their culture. Eric learns about Black haircare while Angela learns about his Korean culture.

I highly recommend this story and look forward to reading more about these firefighters.

*Audiobook

Not done with the audiobook yet, but it's already a zero star.

At 35%, we meet the racist mother.

When will romance authors learn that I don't want a racism storyline/plot/mention in my romance books?

No matter how good the book is, if the fmc is black, there's always a racism scene/plot, and I am tired.

I will always give books like this a 1 star.

When authors learn to write black fmcs without mentioning racism, maybe theyll get more than 1 star from me.

Same reason i don't read MM, i don't want to read books that have homophobia plots/scenes etc.

Keep the boring, unromantic social issues stuff away from my romance books.

I just want the romance, the smut, the drama, etc.

Please and thank you

*sigh

(I may not finish this series, if if this is a regular thing this author does.)

I think this is my favorite of the series - and I definitely need to read more Tiffany Patterson. In fact I need to check the zon right now - AND GET MORE OF HER AUDIOBOOKS, HOOPLA. Or Tantor or whoever produce more with her!
COME ON!

[oops - lost my train of thought because I wrote a bunch of other books/got a bit mixed up]

ANYWAY. Angela and Eric are probably my favorite couple of the series so far.
I liked the audiobook narrators - I actually re-started this book for a section.

Angela still isn't over the tragic death of her parents ... and Eric ... well his career change was a major shock to his parents.

I think Eric has had his eye on Angela for a while - but the spin class he has to wear a tutu to [for his firehouse losing a bet] really kicks things off. (Angela is teaching the class.) And ... you kinda love to see a super hot masculine Korean American firefighter hero who still has game while wearing a tutu to a spin class.
Seriously.

I will say - this book got me - the beginning TELLS you there's going to be a dark moment. And ... even with this being a romance I was like "OH MY GOD - IS SHE GOING TO KILL HIM OFF? REALLY? REALLY?" Cuz you aren't SURE sure how things will go ...
And the hospital scene actually had me tearing up.

This is low key insta-love. Like.... Eric is SMITTEN.

I loved how intense this book was - but not over the top. It's nicely balanced with a lot of emotion and humor - loved the other firefighters.
[Although I have questions about the lighter fluid "prank" ... like ... was that made up or taken from life? And.... it was a lot.]

When Eric is taking the exam ... when he goes to find Angela ...
How he calls her Angel ...

The shower scene. How Angela explains her hair to him. And OH MY GOD what he says - and how she tells him he needs to work on his communication skills. Cuz, yeah. My dude. 😅😹 oh my god.

And then when Angela meets his family. OOF.
I ... yoooo I had some B A D moments and was like "is ... his mom... dude." AND THEN I was kinda like "JUST SAY IT. SHE'S RACIST." But I was maaybe/little bit low key jumping to conclusions?
Cuz that dinner was ROUGH - but then his mom is much better; admits it was about her not Angela and more that she's still hoping he'll be a CFO or whatever and use that fancy Harvard degree/degrees.
[Which ... still?]

Although I guess him finally bringing a woman home kinda underlines it? SUPER extra shitting ambushing him with the ex though.

Ahhhh there's so much.
I'm definitely going to re-read this book and am interested in other Patterson books, like I said.
Super disappointed there aren't more audiobooks available/in Hoopla.

I'd say solid C, maybe C+?

Hot!!!

Eric and Angel.....sigh.

I love his swagger; you definitely nailed it, Ms. Patterson!. Eric has the firefighter swag down pat and Angela is his perfect counterpart. Her sweetness to his strong, silent demeanor.

I loved the parents on both side playing such a huge part in their relationship; dealing with his parents not liking his job and Angela still grieving over the death of her parents. Eric was there to help her grieve and she was there to help him repair his relationship with his parents.

Heartwarming, sexy story and I can't wait for more from Rescue Four team

It is awesome!

One thing I enjoyed about Eric and Angela story is they didn't allow doubt it other people influence their relationship. It hard to find books like that. All I want to know is when does Sean, Don, Corey and Carter get a story. I loved this one. I dying to know will the other guys get their story.

Angela and Eric's story is a romance based on mutual ambition, attraction, and values. Their first moves toward each other and first dates felt realistic, not too slow and not too fast, but full of confident and purposeful gestures (Eric's mostly) and meaningful restraints.

This couple didn't really face any obstacles, save for some questionable acrimony with a "meet-the-parents" and some pointless scenes with OM/OW who were not significant in either Angela's or Eric's lives enough to warrant attention.

Eric is a firefighter and the danger of his job is not a conflict so much as it is a fear that Angela accepts, mainly because her brother is a firefighter and her father was one too. Scenes of Eric doing his job are decently described and they sneakily build up to the story's ending.

This is my first time reading this author. Despite some repetitive lines, terrible dialogue with nagging chicks who wanted Eric, and a bit of cringey descriptions *i.e. "greedy canal,"

I liked the way Eric was written and Angela was ok, kind of mild and also fun-loving to most she meets; not written with a lot of stereotypical bw spice, thank goodness, but not written as strongly and Eric. Though I think this couple would have been great had they been more tested, I appreciated the mature way they vibe together. They didn't sizzle like I expected them too though.

I listened to the audiobook; good narrators for both Angela and Eric, except the narrator for Eric did a terrible female voice.
Happy Reading.

Eric's story isn't nearly has smoldering and hot as Carter's or Aaron's, but it was still good. I am more drawn to Tiffany's alpha characters, and Eric isn't really one but he's still an interesting and sexy character because what man does Tiffany Patterson write about that is not?! Anyway, this is a cute love story and I enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to reading about Don! I think we're in for a treat with that one.

DNF: the book was okay up until the homophobia. Spin class doesn’t mean you’re gay and neither does wearing a tutu. And so what if you are gay and enjoy spin class and wearing a tutu????? I get it…they’re firefighters but they don’t have to be homophobic assholes. Casual homophobia as a plot device is lazy and insulting. The dialogue was also just technically bad..

Good fire fighter romance.

This was a nice firefighter romance. It was well-written overall, the conflicts were believable, I learned a lot about the firefighter world and it really played a role in the plot which is important in this kind of book. I REALLY appreciated the diversity of the interracial relationship- Korean origin hero with black heroine- it was unusual but also executed with authenticity to but cultural experiences.

My peeves with this and why it doesn’t get 4 stars from me: It’s not my favourite thing when the prologue reveals the climax of the book and then most of the plot is a flashback to events prior to that climax. So for example, this book starts with Eric, the firefighter hero in a building that has collapsed on him, thinking he’s going to die and regretting that he’s leaving behind the heroine, Angela. Then the main plot of the book tells of the relationship between Eric and Angela culminating in the events in the prologue. I wish the book had just started at chapter 1. I feel like natural hair and cooking are probably two major interests of this author because she went into extravagant detail wash day and want that entails step by step and into the preparation of some meals step by literal step. It was fine but I don’t think that much detail was required. Also, I found some of the dialogue not to follow a rational pattern. Lastly, I didn’t really like the hero. I believed his relationship with the heroine but to me, his attitude smacked of him thinking he was God’s gift to women. And possibly, there’s something about having the guts to walk into a burning building that breeds that arrogance and insouciance but I didn’t like it.

Overall, if you’re looking for a low angst, gentle read firefighter romance that also has a good amount of sexy times heat in it. This is the one you want!

2.75 Stars. I did not connect with any of the characters in this story, nor was I able to become vested in the protagonists as a couple in love. Eric 'Harvard' Kim, is a Japanese American fire fighter who is nicknamed 'Harvard' because he has earned a financial business degree from Harvard and for a time was a successful financier with a lucrative firm. This made is parents happy. He even date some Asian women which made his parents even happier. He then left the business world to become a firefighter and started listening to hip hop and wrap and dating women of ethnic groups other than Asian. This was really frowned upon by his parents. Eric's love interest, Angela Moore is a Black female, bar owner, exercise instructor and member of a family of firefighters. A large part of the book is devoted to firefighting exercises and the introduction of the firefighters who will be featured in other books in this series. The author states rather than showing the attraction and love as it developes between Eric and Angela then she arbitrarily introduces and resolves the conflict with his parents and the people that Eric and Angela briefly dated. I almost gave up on this story. KUB #7

Awesome

This is a uniquely and awesome series! Each story is a part that makes a awesome whole. This is such a exciting series that brings romance and a huge lump to your heart, The characters are awesome and their passion burns up the pages with their chemistry which is sizzling hot. The heroine is a independent woman and that makes you feel happy for her and her relationship. This series is such a pleasurable experience that you will definitely enjoy. It's such a believable series and this is a great story that's a complete read. It's what happens when a couple meet and they fall in love each other, along with their chemistry that is so awesome that it turns into a great love of their lives. I really enjoyed this series. The characters even the secondary ones are extraordinary with such imagination that makes this series a beautiful story to read. It's definitely FIVE STARS! I would give it more if possible.

OMG, OMG, my heart stopped!

My nerves were on edge at the suspense in the book. The "will he or won't he" had my nerves on edge. This book was well plotted with lots of drama and suspense. I just love the comradery between the firefighters of Rescue Four. I can see future books being written about the other firefighters.

I just love the love between Angela and Eric. One very seldom reads a book with the male main interest exercising self control. I loved him for that. Angela was the one pushing her love interest on Eric. She was totally enthralled by him and succumbed to his wooing. Eric knew early on that she was the one he wanted as his wife.

This was a sweet love story with two people adjusting their lives to make room for each other in their busy schedule and to deal with any challenges thrown their way. This was a very enjoyable read.

Sizzling

The relationship that developed between Eric and Angela was sizzling. I loved how they were shy but learned to let their personalities shine through. I loved how Eric stood up and protected her against his parents, well specifically his mom. The supporting characters were a hoot, and they made me feel like I was getting a real glimpse into firefighter house and their after hour hangout. I loved Angela and her overall spirit, character, and personality. I love the chemistry between the characters. Having natural hair, I loved how he wanted to learn and to help her with wash day. I enjoyed so many things about this book, but the shower scene declaration just took me over. Had me saying "Dayum!" and "you go boy!"... he claimed and declared with no hesitation. Another good story by this author.

🔥 Hot and Heavy

This is such an awesome and wonderful story!!! Eric and Angela were made for each other and their coming together was beautiful. Eric took one look at Angela and realized she as different and he didn't fight the feeling! Eric is a firefighter and his job is dangerous. He bounced from one woman to another until he saw Angela.

Angela was attracted to Eric just as quickly. They more they interacted the stronger the feelings became. Angela owned her own bar and home and was a people person. She grew up knowing about firefighters and their playboy ways. Then she met Eric and her view was changed.

Their love affair begins and it is straight 5 ALARM HOT!!! Buy the book to find out how and what happens next. A doggone great book Ms. Patterson!!

Cute story about two unlikely people with smoking hot chemistry. Kudos to this author for dealing with underlying racism between Asians and African Americans. Eric 'Harvard' Kim is a Korean American firefighter, who has given up his job in finance to become a firefighter...much to the the horror and disapproval of his Korean parents. Then he meets Charlie, owner of the local bar where the rescue squad hangs out...oh and sister of a firefighter at a rival station. The chemistry between these two is palpable and, in spite of Eric's player reputation, the pair begin to date. It takes a while...dealing with a disapproving mother, ex girl friend, etc. but we finally get an HEA. Great job by the narration team, one of which, ZuZu Robinson, is new to me.

📚 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲: Firefighter romance

📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Eric is a typical firefighter playboy until he meets Angela, a feisty bar owner. He immediately abandons his ways and falls hard and fast.

🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: OK so hear me out... I read this book because I've heard so much about Carter's Flame and thought I'd read the first book before diving into that. And this had promise. But... it flatlined.

The writing wasn't bad. But the story pacing was off. There were parts that deserved more detail, other parts that had too much. For a 200 page book, that can't happen. On top of that, these characters were a little bit boring. I wasn't really into Eric at all.

I'm still moving onto the second book. But this was a bit of a let down.

I love the swagger of a hot firefighter and Eric definitely fit the bill. I have always gravitated towards stories whether on TV or in books about first responders. Perhaps my husband being a police officer has something to do with it! This is my first Tiffany Patterson book and I thoroughly enjoyed Eric and Angela's love story. It was sexy, funny and had a lot of heart. Eric was all alpha male and Angela or "Angel" was sweet and fun, but no pushover. The story developed naturally and the cultural differences that were addressed I could definitely see happening in real life. It was a good read from beginning to end.

Ain't Love Grand...💕

Wow...from the prologue on I could not stop turning the pages. I had read Carter's flame first. I knew I was hooked before I even finished. I'm completely over the edge now..a goner!
There are some editing errors but I got so wrapped up in the lives of Eric, Angela and the members of Rescue Four I couldn't have cared less.
The Love story develops over time and it's so satisfying as the characters take their time to develop something real & lasting. All bases are covered from courage to grief, family, friendship, suspense and smoldering romance which isn't tacky and overdone.

There was a lot to really love about this book but there were just too many errors for me to really ignore. Was there no editor to find common grammar errors? "Me" is an objective pronoun, not
"I." I could overlook this once, maybe twice if I'm generous, but there were at least five instances of this in the book. Also, she used the word "analyzation." This bugged me for a long time and I had to look it up. I'm still not sure if there is a consensus on if this is an actual word. Why not just use analysis?

Aside from these errors, I did really like the book. I like the quiet hero and the vivacious heroine.

Its been a while since I've read a book by this author not because I didn't like her stories but because there were just so many to read and it was hard to keep up but I'm glad I took the time to read this one. I wasn't too sure how I felt about the main character Eric at first because he was quiet and seemed like the brooding type but once he started interacting with his Angel all bets were off. The prologue leads you to believe the story isn't going to end well but you'll have to keep reading to see how it all turns out. I'm definitely going to keep up with the stories from this author from now on.

Full disclosure, I read this book two years ago. I read it again in preparation for the latest release in this series AND because I really enjoyed it the first time. Eric and Angela (Angel) are a sweet couple you feel good about rooting for. Loved Eric's intensity and the courtship. Sprinkled with a bit of drama from his family but easily resolved. This story is focused on how these two come together and work on their relationship. It's simply lovely. I continue to be amazed at Ms. Patterson's creativity. Every character is unique, each story is riveting. I have never regretted a purchase or the time spent reading her work.

I really like this book. I love the relationship that developed between Eric and Angela and loved even more that it was an interracial relationship. They had some really good banter among each other and among their friends and family and I really enjoyed that. I also enjoyed the drama of the actual fire scenes, they had me on the edge of my seat. There were some parts where I literally blinked and missed something and had to go back and re-listen because it felt like the scenes switched that fast. that wasn't a problem too often. I'm looking forward to finishing the series and hearing more about these sexy firefighters.

This story captivates you with its well defined storyline. Eric a part of the team of Rescue Four is intuitive, intriguing and hot as the fires they fight and distinguish. I love the bond and camaraderie of the men in Rescue Four and each character is distinct. Eric and Angela have an instant connection, heat that sizzles and his support for her is unquestionable, above anything and everyone. I look forward to the next book in this series and I hope we get more of the men of Rescue Four.
