Battle for The Dark King #2

Two Vicious Kingdoms

Rate this book
Seduction. Betrayals. Lies. Just another day in the fae court . . .

The longer I stay in the Fae Realm, the more confusing my situation becomes.

I finished the Devotion Trials and actually won, but didn’t get my reward. Now I will be forced into yet another royal game, this one is labeled 'The Faewild Hunt'. It is a genius creation designed by the King himself. Fucked up, right?

My Empath side shoved a giant wedge between Rowan and me, one that I’m not sure is fixable.

I’ve made the stupid mistake of putting my trust into people who have betrayed me, more than once, and it is making me uneasy. Being forced to survive in the unknown full of things that want to kill me isn’t my idea of a good time. But, hey, who am I to choose my own fate?

With every obstacle that is thrown my way, I’m losing myself a little more. One thing is for sure. Rowan has made up his mind about what he wants. I’m just not sure if I want the same thing.
Sometimes he leaves me breathless. Other times, nobody can piss me off more than the Fae King. All I want is a happy life. For myself, Ava, Tom, and even Rowan.

War is at my doorstep, and I’m not sure if it is one that I can win.

The second book in the sexy new fae romance series, perfect for fans of: The Fae Chronicles by Amelia Hutchins, Trial by Fae, Dark King, Power of Five, King of The Fae, Bound to The Battle God, and Stolen by The Fae King!

Powerful

What a powerful series of love, betrayal, different races coming together to fight for what’s right. These characters have won me over completely, I look forward to reading about them and finding out what happens along this excellent, exciting experience with them all.

Second book not as good as the first one.

For me the main plot lacked a bit, as the first one you have the main trials and the competition for the king, this one felt like it dragged on a bit and didn't make sense to be here.

Sooooo... rewind. Eden technically won the trials (no surprise there), but somehow because she was wearing a protective crystal or something, Nija said it didn't count. So that takes us to book two where Rowan has designed NEW trials.

They don't make sense. He immediately disqualifies Nija from competing, so I was like, what's the point of hosting the Hunt then? The whole point was supposed to be both Eden and Nija wanted to marry Rowan, now that Nija's gone, what's stopping Eden?

The trials itself was boring, basically a game of hide and seek between the women and the men, bit pointless and demoralising, if you ask me.

However the romance in this book was SOOOO GOOOD! Eden struggles to contain the heartbreak after Rowan sent her away and was going to marry Nija. But eventually they work it out.

The book ended at a weird bit. It was sort of a cliffhanger, but felt incomplete. Can't wait for the third book.

Better read

Okay this was alot better read than the first ...there is a little more action in this installment. Do think though that somethings could be explained better than they were, like when she brings her family over to the Fae realm , not explaining were she had been who she is and they all get on with it ! Eden a little bit whiny in this and Rowan you would expect a bit more back bone after all you are King !

I suppose this book was a bit better than the first one, but not by much. At least more pages were dedicated to the Faewild Hunt thing. The end of the book is kind of chopped off in the middle of a scene. So, I guess I'll have to read the final book, as I am mildly interested in the story. Eden is still a likable main protagonist. But I'll be honest, I don't care much for any of the other characters. One good thing is that the magic was better explained in this book.

Good read

Still a good story that could use more, also has errors that need to be corrected, the main character was a little less in this book and some was predictable. Still a good read while still being short. Hope this gets rectified in the future because this truly could be more since the story is unique or was more so in the first book.

The premise was typically of the genre, but I don’t mind if it’s done right.
The first book was okay enough to buy #2. But it gradually fell apart until I felt like gagging at one of the graphic sex scenes.
But that’s not what made me give up on the book.
It was just… bad.
Some very interesting, mysterious characters finally show up, such as her father; so finally an interesting scene maybe. Nothing.
That scene however made me wonder just how and why the King went from being disdainful and disgusted by the “witch” to obsessed and constant longing, er, lust. There’s no relationship!
I try to finish most books once I get this far, but I realized I really didn’t care anymore. Our heroine wasn’t appealing anymore. Her stepfather was interesting. Yeah.
Maybe most irritating was the tone kept changing if that makes sense- from a more formal tale to modern chilled out slang.
I’m irritated enough to write review.
And warning: the sex scenes grow increasingly graphic with no emotional build-up. Made my eyes roll because at my age, it’s just kind of stupid. Here let’s throw in a little verbal porn! Most women, I believe, want SOME emotion to fuel sex. There has to be some relationship or tenderness. And that’s when I realized I couldn’t remember why the heck they even liked each other or when witches had become a-ok suddenly and not the dregs of the magical world.
I was hoping for more info on the “Queen of the Witches” and much more but it just …. Forget it… just Bleh.

There are a couple of surprises at the end of this book that made me want to continue with book three. I liked this better than book one. There are several typographical errors throughout the book that didn't bother me, but might bother other readers. The sweetness of this story reads like a YA novel, but it is not YA because of some explicit scenes. It definitely made for a unique perspective. Okay, on to book three. I want to see how this sucker ends.

Wasn't impressed...

The end of the last book made me hope for a happy
beginning... Rowan admits that he manipulated and
deceived her into leaving cause he wanted to be with
the other chick. She relied completely on his looks.
Allowed herself to be belittled, demeaned and
the character is happy with verbal abuse.
Have a damn backbone and self respect. Always trust your instincts. She should have ended up with Ben he respected
and cared for her...

Eden has managed against all odds to unlock her Witch powers and used them successfully in the Devotion Trials. She and Rowan, the Elven King are to be wed. Good thing because they’re absolutely crazy for each other. There’s also more to each of them than previously thought and the idea had driven a wedge between. This new development in Eden’s powers is a dangerous secret she has no idea she’s hiding and Rowan too.

But after she had skipped back to the Mortal Realm to retrieve her dying father and sister, Eden returns to find her victory stripped away and a new challenge in front of her, the Faewild Hunt. In this new contest, male and female royal contestants will be dropped into the dangerous Faewild forest to hunt each other for mates. A female may refuse a male and a male must abide by the refusal. Acceptance means marriage.

While the concept of a wild hunt isn’t new, it was a great way to keep the suspense going after the excitement of the Devotion Trials. The reader already understands where some of the remaining players are coming from and gets the idea that there’s way more to what’s going on than they know which makes it exciting to keep reading.

The political intrigue grows but also gets frustrating because no one will talk to Eden about her mother, the previous Witch Queen or who her biological father was; she knows that Tom, the ex-cop mortal who raised her is not her actual father but she still considers him her dad. Ava, her teen sister, is acclimating well to the new life.

The relationship between Eden and Rowan stretches and strains sometimes and once the Hunt is started, she’s sure he’ll find her in no time - only, he doesn’t. Eden finds herself battling Demons who’ve broken the rules and the wild itself because she’s not yet sure of her powers nor is she a survivalist. When she consumes some suspicious berries, she finds herself wandering the forest until she runs into someone she never expected to find.

The newcomer sheds light but also sadness on Eden’s new life. She becomes Queen of the Fae after all and starts to realize that she actually cares what happens to the inhabitants of this realm, unlike in the Mortal Realm where she was a nobody.

The slow development of Eden’s character over what seems to be weeks is wonderful. I like to see that the character is having real moments of clarity but also deep frustration. Eden experiences both in this story. She knows there’s more than what people are telling her about her mother and father, she’s been betrayed by a close friend and her lover, she’s being pushed and pulled through hoops she had no idea even existed because she had no idea this part of herself existed. It feels like the reader can easily put themselves into Eden’s shoes because any person thrust into the position could feel the same.

I read this using my Kindle Unlimited subscription. All opinion are my own.

I liked this book more than I thought I would.

This book continues where book 1 left off. Eden is at odds with Rowan because she feels betrayed by his actions when she left faerie. He was actually going to marry Nija. It has nothing to do with love, it was about political alliances. But Eden doesn’t understand that, having been raised in the human world. A new trial must be conducted and it was reminiscent of the Bride Hunt series by Charlene Hartnady. The difference is that rather than having a bunch of women vie for the hand of the prince, it’s multiple men of the houses of nobility of the different realms hunting one of the women as a potential bride, in the faewilds.

Of course Rowan finds her and they make up. A few unexpected twists, were a welcomed surprise, and a betrayal.

As I did with the first book, I read some of the reviews before reading, so I had my doubts about this book. However, I really liked it - I’m glad I decided to read it and make up my own mind. Sure, sometimes I wanted to slap Eden, but didn’t hate her as much as I have other MFC in some of these paranormal romance books. Is there some world and character building that could be improved? Sure, but I still enjoyed the book. I think Rowan comes off much better than he did in the first book. I thought he was an arrogant jerk, but his character seems more mature. I just wish there were a more even split between the story told from her POV and from his. It felt like only 20% at most was his viewpoint.

I am anxious to read the final book in this series. This book does end on a cliff hanger.

BLURB: A dark fae king, three deadly trials and a forbidden passion that could destroy everything....

A sexy new series perfect for fans of: Half-Blood Academy, Bound to the Battle God and Stolen by the Fae King!

Fae exist only in children’s stories, or so I thought. That was before a nightmarish creature of the Fae Realm dropped into my life. He claimed a seven-pointed mark on my skin signified my magical lineage, the bit of DNA my mother passed down. Days after I arrive in the Fae Realm, I’m thrown into a series of trials titled ‘The Devotion’. I must compete with demons, vampires, elves and more who want to claim their place at the future King’s side. I have no interest in this guy, but it doesn’t help that the King-to-be is a gorgeous, brooding fae. He’s dominant, commanding and everything I shouldn’t want. But the longer I’m here, the more I’m questioning everything - including my own heart.

It’s a very simple book but cute enough and the spice definitely helps to keep my interest 😆

So in book 1 our girl had to complete trials to be seen as worthy to marry the fae king but just before the wedding she went back to the human realm to get her father & sister and when she got back to the fae realm with the way time goes by the demon princess had convinced everyone that she cheated and shouldn’t be able to marry the king.

So book 2 the king had a trial of sorts where eligible princess would going into these dangerous fae woods and the men of different species would have to find them and ask for their hand.
The concept made no sense to be honest but well in the woods a sprite lead her to her biological father whom everyone thought was dead and had been hiding out in there for years.

He explained to her what happened and how he wasn’t able to follow into the human realm then how he felt guilty for sending her mother to help the now princes when he was younger but that it lead to her death. He ends up staying in the forest well her love finds her and they go back to the palace to marry.

Just after the wedding the demon queen (apparently she killed or did something to her parents where she’s now Queen and in charge), she came into the reception room and said to hand over his wife or it would be war. Also the witch teacher from book 1 who sexually assaulted our female protagonist seems to be working with the demon but he didn’t escape when her other people did so our King & Queen will try to get as much information out of him as possible.

>Book Review – Two Vicious Kingdoms
>I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 2nd in the Battle for the Dark King series and ends in a cliffhanger. Rowan thinks Eden left him at the altar. His backup plan is to marry the evil demon, Nija, whom he was sleeping with. Eden returns with family in tow and is super upset with Rowan for even considering marrying someone else. When she realizes he was going to marry the demon, Rowan has a lot of work to do to get Eden to trust him again.
>I love seeing Eden with her sister and father. Their interactions are all very real and loving. Eden must undergo a new test before being allowed to marry Rowan. She must survive in a dangerous forest until Rowan finds her to propose. This game seems a bit pointless, unless Rowan wants Eden to be in danger. Eden does find her real father, who is loving but unforgiving.
>This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this book 4 stars. I like how alpha Rowan is acting, but the romance is still only sexual and not romantic.

The second book of the series doesn't get any better than the first. Actually it gets worse.

Eden for example gets extremely mad at Rowan for something he did, but when someone else does the exact same she's fine with it?!

The characters continue to be very flat and without much of a personalities. I don't see any personal development (I guess it would be hard without any personality to develop..)

The new trial literally makes NO sense! There is no need for that trial since it's not even a race or anything. You can't win and all those decisions could have been made without it.

Example of the ridiculousness of this book is that Eden had never used a bow but the first time she does she shoots a rabbit and says it's very easy. And all this without any guidance. 🥲
Also when she is learning to use her empath side she gets very mad and frustrated after trying two (2) times and complaints she can't do it. Who adult person expects to learn everything new on the first trying?!

Be wary to read this book. It's quite infuriating.

Still at Three and a Half-ish Stars.

Although the second book in the series has a better flow and more action, I’m still coming in at just under four stars. My two main reasons for this are the extraordinarily douchey lines thrown out by Rowan throughout the book, and the numerous grammatical and spelling errors. Get an editor. It’s that simple, get an editor. One book full of errors is forgivable, but two is not.

Now, for what I like: the storyline. I really like this storyline. It continues to pull me in despite the many nit-picky things that get on my nerves about the characters. I know it seems like I have a lot of complaints about the book but the bottom line is that I’m still reading. I’m still excited about the storyline, and I’m invested in what is going to happen.

So last book our h, Eden, found out she was a witch and transported to another realm where she is to tap into her newly found powers to get her through what is called the Devotion Trials. The prize; marriage to the prince, Rowan. Who she hated and then fell into love with. She technically won but events transpired and now she is to participate in the Wildfae Hunt where if she wins she will not only get the King but she will be Queen. Only Problem her and Rowan are on the outs and even though she knows she loves him she's not sure she can trust him. But if, during this hunt, he finds her she can choose if she wants to marry him or not.
The second book was a bit slow even though there was quite a bit of action. Some twist and turns thrown in and it still kept me on edge so that I am craving to see where Eden and Rowans story goes.

Three stars is a stretch, but this book did hold my attention through to the end. However, by the time I finished, I realized I think I’m tired of this series.

Despite it not being a YA book (there’s sex scenes), the characters lack maturity. The whole book has an immature feel to it, I think in part because of the shallow concepts. Competing for a hand in marriage to unite kingdoms...and there’s some instant love despite initially being enemies... and humans not realizing they aren’t humans.... It is all becoming a bit over the top. At first I thought the author was trying to rip off the Hunger Games. As the series progressed, I think the author lacked focus. There’s just not enough “meat” to the story and too many fundamental questions that go unanswered.

A Superb Story!!!!!--!

The twist and turns throughout this story allows it to become more and more intriguing. It is a stunning story that quickly becomes addictive. The lure of it as it pulls you deeper and deeper into it until you are unable to put it down. Eden is growing by leaps and bounds throughout this second book. Rowan is becoming the male that he is supposed to be. The chemistry between the two of them is off the charts. It is felt throughout the story. The characters are stunningly developed and add so much to mix of the story. This is a must read and doesn't disappoint.

Amazing

I have just as much good to say about this second in the series as I had to say about the first. Though for a moment the story felt very ‘hunger games’ I enjoyed that aspect of it as well. My only negative comment has to do with the way Eden’s mental language changed through the book. I enjoyed her at the beginning of the first book when she was still wild and uncultured. As we went into the second book she started to sound more like a stuffy old lady. Just a thought.

Being the second book in the series it follows on from the previous book.🎧

Eden now finds herself in another royal game known as the Fae Wild Hunt which introduces the Fae woods, new characters, and new action scenes.🪵

Unfortunately, this book was dissapointing for me. I thought the second book would be better than the first but this wasn’t the case. 🙃

The plot was predictable (predictable is perfectly fine if done well!) and the spice was poorly written with lots of ‘ick’ words and ‘what?’ phrases.🤨

Great second book, really helped fill in the gaps

This was a great book, there were some areas where I was a little annoyed at the heroine because she seemed to be acting childish and not seeing things from Rowans point of view, he has an entire kingdom to worry about his life is not his own and she seemed to not care about that for awhile. All in all I loved this second installment and am looking forward to the third.

Awesome

Full of adventure over the Fae realms leading up to the HEA? Well a few twists to mar the marital bliss, and yet again a cliff hanger to book three. Outstanding writing that had me up late into the night only to find I have to read book three. Now the dilemma of how fast can I read the next in the series and still be able to function at work in the morning. Yes it is that good so choose your reading time wisely. Happy reading !

I loved the world the author created. There were a lot of unexpected events but I was sure intrigued by it all. The story and characters were very well written. I thought it was funny, hot, and adventurous. Definitely recommend and worth the buy. The narrators did a fantastic job bringing the characters to life and good pace. There were some parts where they did go super slow. Anyways other than that I enjoyed listening and I can’t wait to get the next installment.

Series 2/3; Fantasy romance; e-Book; KU

In the last book Eden had won the Devotion Trials but Rowan had refused to marry her. In this book, Rowan announces a trial for all the prince/ssesGreat. Much of the book is spent on Eden's trials through the forest. I loved the way Eden and Rowan finally came together. Loved the adventure through the forest, and I loved watching the side romances progress.

Can't wait to read book 3!

3.5

3.5 stars could be better I'm curious how it ends so I'll keep reading but there's Grammer problems, and I feel like the scenes especially the fighting scenes could be so much better it has lots of potential. The only thing that bothered me more was that the cover pictures do not resemble characters as they have dark and red hair. Just a few mishaps that keep adding up it onto the last.

Seems like a filler book

I feel like nothing exceptional really happened in this book. Yeah there was a retrial and meeting of new characters but it ended pretty expectedly. Even the final scenes seemed almost predictable with Nija wanting to wage war.

I’m still going to read the last book because OF COURSE I want to know how it ends.

Loving this series!

Absolutely loving this series, completely new storyline’s that I haven’t read before which is refreshing! Was hooked from the first book and finished this one in a day; now onto the final book! However, i do feel like the Faewild
Hunt could have been elaborated more but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
