You only live once…unless you’re resurrected to become the master of a dungeon.
When Beno died and was offered a second chance as a dungeon core, he dived right in. He joined the dungeon core academy, and he found himself in a new life where killing heroes wasn’t just accepted, but encouraged. Under the tutelage of the academy overseers, he learned how to make dungeons filled with monsters and traps.
Beno finds himself in a strange dungeon now. One where he not only has to summon all kinds of foul creatures to defend his lair, but where he is also the savior of a race of people. That's a lot of pressure for a dungeon core.
He used to live a normal life. Now he builds dungeons, creates monsters, and uses them to fight loot-hungry heroes.
For fans of LitRPG, Gamelit, fantasy, strategy, and watching cheerful dungeon masters devise ways to defeat heroes. This is book 2, and book 3 is out soon!
“Brilliant. If there's one thing this novel has in abundance, it's personality. Tons and tons of it. The characters are marvelous and the dialogue is at times laugh-out-loud funny. Highly recommended.”
“Glad I have this a shot. I really like dungeon books so I picked it up holding for a book 2.”
The first quarter of this book was a little slow for me as the new circumstances of Beno’s existence unfolded but the exceptionally strong final three quarters of the book brought this up to four stars for me. It’s a little longer then the first book and I If you liked the first book this one is sure to please you. Just as I started this book yesterday the author posted on reddit that book 3 is now out. It wasn’t on goodreads at the time but I see now that it is. Book 3
Beno lives! The little core is in a whole lot of new trouble. The story is a fast paced short story that entertains well. It does need a bit more editing to smooth it out. Enjoy.
This volume 2 is small at 170 pages and 30 chapters (5 pages a chapter on average). The Dungeon Core continues. This second volume is filled with self-thoughts that are unneeded and unnecessary. The author makes the story convoluted. The wrong turn (Wrotun) people who are addicted to mana, bought with all of their savings two failed Dungeon Cores. The leader of this Wrotuns and their trap maker are betraying the "village" (Wrotun). The Seekers are the enemies of these Wrotuns. With betrayal, the two failed Dungeon Cores are assigned the task to guard and protect the two small mana streams that remain. The bad jokes persist. Too many self-thoughts that do not push the plot arcs along but are used as filler by the author. Almost no action in this second volume. Even though it is very short to read, almost nothing has been gained or learned in this second book. Dungeon Core Academy (title of this book and also the series of books) has nothing to do with what happens at the Wrotun town. Both Dungeon Cores are no longer affiliated to the Dungeon Core Academy. Academy is in financial trouble and sells Dungeon Cores and Monsters to the highest bidder, sells most monsters breeded to the Hero's Guild, to be used as meat shields and punching bags. So there is little to no point to the Dungeon Academy and now that the main character is far away risking his second life again, this story series makes little to no common sense. This second story is about two groups of addicts fighting to keep the opium den. (mana stream).
A decent story, if you like dungeon core type books. I like the way this one was done, in that the dungeons weren't simply left to their own devices, but were actually overseen by a committee to prove they had what it takes to be a core. This story had some unique approaches to the dungeon core genre I'd not seen elsewhere, which made the story a bit more interesting. However, with me not being all that big a fan of dungeon core type stories, it would probably be more enjoyable to those who take an active interest in that kind of thing. I liked it well enough, but it really wasn't my thing, though now that I'm invested, I'll probably read more in the series. Mostly, because I hate to leave a story unread once ai've started it.
I finished and did enjoy the book but I'm thinking I may not finish the series. The plot structure isn't holding me mostly because I thought this was going to be about a dungeon core that was creatively evil and it really isn't. The promo on the first book had me thinking this was far more interesting than it turned out to be. But I'm on the wire on this, I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either so I may revisit this in the future. I've felt this way about other early books in a series and the author eventually seems to solidify the core plot structure and that may happen here, but it hasn't happened in this book.
What happens when a 10-year-old becomes a dungeon core? Antics hilarity, and tongues of mischief!
We meet once again in this newest installment! This time our intrepid dungeon core has found himself the property of some confused in early deceived peoples. He is tasked with creating a dungeon to protect these people. But what really happened is a lot of chaos and utter WTF moments! Well written, and just a blast to read! I highly suggest any fan of the discord genre pick up this latest installment!
This story sorta pivots from the ending of the previous one and it doesn't really follow it linearly.
This in turn makes you care less about the core and reduces the enjoyment of the story. Although it does pick up again and the ending provides some closure, it still made for a clunky execution.
Will be picking up the next when it comes out though.
Another interesting read and take on a dungeon core book love the melding room option and can’t wait for more unique creations to come from it... would recommend to anyone looking for a great dungeon core book.
Short easy read dungeon core story. Beno the core is chatty with the reader. It's worked in both this and the previous book. Most of the fighting is implied. The story advances. Score: 7.8 out of 10
Another fun installment. Enjoying this series sound it’s fun loving mc. The side characters each bring a unique entertainment. Looking forward to book 3
