To ensure her safety, the future human ambassador on Makaen has to bond to a Makaen warrior.
Free-spirited Sarah is anything but diplomatic. But to end the war between humans and an alien race called the Makaen, she’s persuaded to accept the position of ambassador, which requires bonding to a Makaen warrior and living with him on his planet. Sarah is far from enthusiastic about marrying a dominant sex-crazed brute. Furthermore, a bonded female is supposed to be demure and obedient. Words that definitely aren't in her translator.
Kealen Bakan, commander of the most powerful warship of the Makaen's military, agrees to bond to one of his former enemies out of a sense of duty. His hate for her species burns deep inside, but after touching her he knows one thing for sure: the human female belongs to him, and he's never going to let her go. He soon experiences that fighting in a war might be less dangerous than handling this stubborn female.
Their first contact is electrifying- literally, and raises the question of whether they were brought together by divine intervention.
This story has some potential, especially promising from a new author. Some of the negative aspects though... It took too long for the H and h to finally meet. Once they did, I enjoyed their getting to know one another. H is a well experienced guy, the h is like a 30 yo V. This was annoying how it was totally cool for the guy, but a double standard was there for the females. Even though they have pleasure houses all on his home planet and males, EVEN BONDED MALES, regularly visit pleasure house sir have secondary females. So yeah, it’s a male dominated society where females are pretty much repressed to certain degrees. The male, Kealen gets upset at one point with the h when she’s not talking to him and she’s having one of her silent treatment instead of communicate issues and his goes to a pleasure house with his brother and friend. A worker tries to touching him, but he can’t get it up. He flips out and goes home drunk saying the h ruined him because he couldn’t get it on with a pleasure worker. Of course she flips out saying how dare he try to cheat. This bothered me a great deal, because for a bonded couple he shouldn’t have even tried to do that. Luckily he’s goddess bonded so he can’t cheat. But think of all the other bonded males on that planet who so freely do. It’s just wrong and I lost a lot of respect for him that he would even try. They end up forming a decent relationship. He wasn’t too terrible. She was really good at first. I loved her interactions with the crew on the ship and was hoping they could have stayed in the ship. There were some borderline TSTL moments by her. And I hated how she didn’t realize he wasn’t actually betraying her. She should have realized that! But at the same time, I step he actually had to participate and harm her. This was a poor choice for the storyline. But then after, what, was she just gonna stay on earth for ever and ignore her bonded mate? COMMUNICATION PEOPLE! I know most people in today’s society don’t and apparently can’t communicate correctly, but dang let’s teach through books how talking and listening can solve so much! There were some borderline super frustrating parts in regards to the cultural submissive female junk. And the male was alpha, but he was also borderline not alpha and more AHole at times. So going forward I hope this author takes the time to really focus on the difference between the two and how a real alpha would respond to his female.
In a nice change from aliens-need-brides, Sarah is drafted into an arranged marriage with alien Kaelen in order to become earth's first ambassador to the Makaen homeworld. In keeping with the trope, she is not the docile female expected by the her warrior husband and his society. Sarah is a fully three dimensional character, Kaelen a bit less so.
I really enjoyed this book by a new author. It was a breath of fresh air and was not formulaic. The heroine was independent, sarcastic and relatable. She showed respect for the alien culture by learning about It but at the same time she wasn't about to become a demure, obedient mouse. The author also did an excellent job in developing the hero's character. He comes from a culture of dominant males who control the lives of their women and who expect to be obeyed. The males are also not usually monogamous after bonding. This hero adapts, he allows the heroine to be herself, eventually! Their relationship had twists and turns and there was some danger along the way. It was well written, without glaring spelling and grammatical errors and was not ultra short. I'm really looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
This started out so good in the very beginning, but fairly early on I started seeing the story I’d been expecting (based on the synopsis and the initial set-up of the novel) begin to slowly crumble before my eyes. :(
If you were expecting a mature, angsty, exhilarating story about two “people” who are destined to be together (literally by divine bonding/lifemates), having to navigate their way through extreme prejudice and speciesism, to eventually find common ground, understanding, and true love that feels fulfilling and well-deserved… this is not that story.
It’s just a thin façade that is overcome (very easily) by lust and silly antics. *sigh*. Both MCs devolved rather rapidly once the bonding ceremony happened, and the story turned into the typical: petulant, immature, rebellious female frustrates her exasperated mate who retaliates by acting like an alpha-hole bully, but they still happily bang like rabbits, and make an embarrassing, childish spectacle of themselves to everyone around them. :(
If you truly enjoy that type of story and find it fun, I will say that this one is well-written. As in, the writing itself (writing style, very few typos, etc.) is superior to a lot of others I’ve had the misfortune to stumble across. So you’ll most likely have a great reading experience. But this type of story is just not for me, and not at all what I thought I was signing up for. I’ve also read this story with this type of characterization and relationship dynamics numerous times before, just with a different “skin”.
My first time reading this author and I absolutely loved this book! Oh wow I loved it! Sarah and Kealen’s story was sooo good! Sarah was my kind of woman 100%!! She was hilarious! The way she won over his crew was also the best! I wish more time was spent on board the main battle ship. Their chemistry was so magnificent and magnetic and 100% blazing hot! The world building was also amazing. The way the war started was tragic. Naturally humans being stupid I totally pictured that happening and I felt for the 3 Bakan brothers. The only thing is I don’t know if I will continue the series. The book built up other characters and didn’t introduce us at all to the older Bakan brother or this governor in the third book and I have no sense of relationship or “want” to read their book... having read book one if the author would have made a book for Sim, or Torak or one of the crew I would have been all over it because we have built somewhat a relationship with these characters. So this may have been a one time read for me. I might revisit this series and see how things have progressed later after book three and see if others have books. Then, I may return to the series. If not then I will bid this series a sad farewell. But I can say for sure book 1 was such a phenomenal pleasure for me. 5 ⭐️from me
Loved this book, absolutely loved it. It was awesome and the world building was on par with the settings. I loved the main characters- Sarah was a breath of fresh air and Kealen was this strong stoic hero that I just melted into, his patriarchal societies made for some interesting instances! READ READ READ! If you are questioning whether or not to try this book, DO! It’s a great one!
The premise of the story is good, the writing is a bit juvenile. The characters are very one dimensional. The heroine seems to me to be a bit immature to be an interplanetary ambassador. I found the writing to be
Overall, I enjoyed the book. It was a nice change to all the alien romances out there that are based on Stockholm syndrome & captives/breeders! I liked Sarah & Kealen, Sarah had a lot of spunk, & I appreciated that in a heroine. I liked the story enough that I would probably read book 2 when it comes out. The downside, I didn't feel the alien-ness of Kealen was accentuated enough- to keep him feeling really alien. It was easy to forget until something (like her saying something about his roaks/horns) is mentioned, that he's alien. His language was too much of a match, I would have expected more problems with the translator not working as smoothly for dialect/colloquial expressions- sort of thing, or more misunderstandings due to cultural differences between species -sort of thing, & his physical differences (roaks/horns that emit sexual pheromones, skin color, eye brow ridges & retractable claws) were not highlighted enough to make sure a reader remembers that he's definitely different- alien. I do appreciate that it wasn't crazy different from humans though, as that's disturbing, too (-thinking of some of the bizarre alien books I've run across).
STORY ------- To make peace a human ambassador will be sent to Makaen and will be bond to a Makaen warrior and living with him on his planet.
Free-spirited Sarah is far from enthusiastic about marrying a dominant sex-crazed brute. Kealen Bakan, commander of the most powerful warship of the Makaen's military, is also kind of forced into this because of his sense of duty.
Their first contact is electrifying....
MY OPINION ------------- It was surprisingly nice and fun for this short erotic novella. I really liked that they meet before and that deepened their relationship. There were funny parts and Sarah was indeed free spirited and strong character who can`t handle it to be locked in, that`s how they first meet because she caused some technic disturbances.
I really enjoyed the first book in the Makaen warriors series of Zina. My favorite genre of books are aliens looking for wives or those being forced to marry. Sarah is an xenopsychologist that study the Makaen warriors. She was asked by her boss to be an ambassador between the races. But to end the war and save someone she cares about she’s persuaded to accept the position of ambassador, which requires bonding to a Makaen warrior and living with him on his planet.
Kealen Bakan, commander of the most powerful warship of the Makaen's military. His Father is a wealthy senator with clout and convinces his son to try and end this war. Out of obligation Kealen agrees to bond with her . This was a fun read and I enjoyed experiencing the dynamics between the two.
I loved the premise of this book... earth and aliens and impending war. I loved the heroine, she was smart and spunky and strong willed. I really liked the hero too and he was kind of ‘Sci-fi Lite’....he ‘looks’ a little alien (claws and horns and bumps in all the right place) but for me there wasn’t a very alien feel to him. No language barrier or cultural taboos...there were some mentioned but apart from ‘don’t touch my woman’ nothing seemed like it was actually an issue so I forgot he was an alien a lot of the time. Good read! Humor. Very very steamy. Plot to keep it moving. Solid 4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I absolutely loved the characters, loved the humor, loved the action and yes...even loved the strife. Sometimes a book grabs me by the heart (and the lady bits,) and keeps ahold throughout. This was such a book!
Not giving away plots or characters; I suck at writing, (hence why I read!) Just stopping by to say this was one of the best "Alien-Human" space adventures/rom-coms I've ever read. I am totally looking forward to the next one in the series...so hurry up, darnit!!! ;)
Sarah is my long, lost soul sister! Her wit, her enthusiasm and her sassy attitude had me ROLLING! She was definitely my kind of strong female character. I laughed so hard at one point, I spit out my tea!! I don't think the Makaen were quite ready for the feisty earth girl but she certainly changed their opinions of humans. Great book, fun and engaging characters and quite a few sexy moments. This was the first book I've read by this author but it won't be the last.
This is a fantastic book. I was surprised at how well written this book was considering it is the author's first book. Usually you don't have characters and story so well written for a first book, but this was very professional. The two main characters are well thought out and there is a great back story. I am really looking forward to more books from this author and more books in this series!
5 is the highest stars to give it but it deserves a 10. Trust me you won't regret reading this book it is fantastic!. I laughed so hard I'm pretty sure I peed a little and I cried with the h and for the H but overall I had the biggest smile on my face the whole time.
The book was well written and kept your attention from beginning to end. A love story that has adventure, action, humor, love, and hot steamy scenes that are not over the top with awesome characters. A must buy and waiting anxiously for the next book in the series.
I don’t think I realized how crazy earth people would seem to aliens until I started reading these books. This one was great. Funny, romantic and just really good reading.
I enjoyed the story, characters were well fleshed out and it moved along smoothly. I went looking for book 2 and was disappointed it isn't finished yet! Following the author to be notified when it is. 😁
This is my first book by Zina Wes and boy was I delighted. Super sexy alpha male, witty love able heroine and comedy thrown in here and there. Another new author that I will not only be following but reading up all her other books.
I really loved all the characters, looks like there will be plenty of good stories going forward with the other brothers .fast paced,I never got bored ,looking forward to the next book!
I enjoyed the book except when he tried to cheat , he did as far as I am concerned ,but physically couldn't complete the act because of the Goddess bond . I would have given it a five if he hadn't tried to cheat.
The great angry warrior forced into a bonding with a female of the race he wants to destroy. The quirky take no prisons to what I want attitude turns his crew and worms its way into his heart.
