It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single Vampire in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a mortal snack.
******
A single drop of blood will free her.

Fed up living under the oppression of monsters, Clara kills a vampire to rid the world of at least one of the beasts. But when her father’s gambling debts rage out of control and put her sister in harm’s way, she offers herself up to pay the debt.

Thrust into a world of darkness and chaos, Clara does what she must to survive Alaric, her new master, who is determined to make her pay for what she did.

The two are constantly at each others throats. Contract or not, Clara is done with this creature of the night and world of darkness. She runs, but Alaric won’t let her escape.

Recognizing things cannot continue as they are, Alaric makes a deal with her: If she can draw a single drop of blood from Alaric, he will consider her debt paid. But if she attempts and fails, she owes him. The price of her failure? A simple kiss. One that could change everything as she feels her attraction to him growing.

Ali winters new series The vampire debt was a awesome read! It has a great storyline with some very interesting characters as well. Our villain vampire Alaric Devereaux is going to make Clara pay for killing Rosalie a vampiress who he was close to and when clara's father owes him money he takes her in exchange for the debt and so starts his revenge, but the more their together he starts to see a different side to clara and no matter how he fights it the attraction and the need to mark her and make her his is building and soon he makes a bargain with her. If she can draw blood he will let her leave and return to her family but if not she will be his prisoner forever and can never leave. Everything would be so much easier if clara didn't want alaric's kisses ,but every time she goes to draw blood it's all she can do not to cave into her desire to be his lover. And just as things are getting heated up the vampire queen sends some of her court to see why alaric hasn't marked or killed clara. With vampires, high demons and a loyal bat named cherno this story is only just begun. The chemistry between alaric and Clara is sexy and hot with great steamy moments and a good amount of build up! Can't wait for more from this couple. It doesn't so much end on a cliffhanger, but more like a continuing of this tale. Book 2 The Vampie Curse comes out in July! Until next time Luv's💕💋

✅ Beauty and the Beast retelling / Captor-captive
✅ Complex emotions
✅ Pace
✅ Hate-to-love
✅🆗 Action
✅🆗 Plot
✅🆗 Characters
🆗 World-building

Slowly, I lift my bow. The fletching of my arrow grazes my cheek as I pull it back. The bowstring groans, halting my movements and my breath. I wait several heartbeats making sure the monster in my sights doesn’t notice my presence before it’s too late.

The story starts with Clara having a chance to get her revenge on vampires. She hates them because they killed her mother many years ago. But because she killed a vampire, Clara now owes a debt to a vampire named Alaric, and finds herself as his property?/slave?/ward?. Her status and role in his estate are unclear, but at least Alaric is not cruel. She can't leave, but he is respectful and does not try to make her life a living hell.

The plot is similar to A Court of Thorns and Roses (but not as good and there are not as many details, actions, and character development) and it also reminded me of Captured, but the romance was way better than what I read in Captured (actually I DNF Captured because of the cheesy insta-love).

“The bargain I propose is this: if you can manage to draw even a single drop of blood from me with this dagger, then you are free to return home to your family, and I will consider your debt paid in full.” (...) “For every failed attempt, you, my dear Clara, owe me a single kiss.”

Of course, since it is a Beauty and the Beast retelling, there is romance slowly budding between Clara and Alaric, but it is slow and realistic, and they only exchange a few kisses because of a deal he made with her. There is even a little bit of banter developing between them as the story progresses. It is not the best or most intense hate-to-love romance I've read, but it is well done, and Clara and Alaric are cute together.

They both have complex and confusing emotions, Clara hated vampires for most of her life, and Alaric should despise the girl who killed his sister. Yet, they go through a push-pull dance of attraction and revulsion. And I loved every second of it!

I know that this book is not extraordinary: the world-building is very basic, and we have almost no details, and the characters are good, but not great. Still, I just love a good Beauty and the Beast retelling, and I really liked this one. The writing is nicely done, and I finished this book before I could realize it. I can't really explain why I liked this book so much, let's just say it is a guilty pleasure and it's really easy to lose track of time while reading The Vampire Debt.

The Vampire Debt is a very loose retelling of Beauty and the Beast with vampires. I was excited because this book had many of my favorite tropes: enemies to lovers, defiant captive etc... but in the end it didn't really live up to its potential.

I couldn't help but notice (and many other reviewers have pointed this out too) that the first few chapters of the book was eerily similar to ACOTAR but granted these two books have B&TB themes, I suppose that's bound to happen? (I don't know what to make of it)

Clara and Alaric were okay MC's. I just didn't understand their motives and logic half the time, so it was difficult for me to get invested in them. I wasn't completely sold on their romance either because it felt like they didn't have enough reason to fall in love... At the end of the day, if a story lacks foundation, the whole story falls in on itself. And unfortunately, that was the case here. The vampire lore was very brief, and nothing seemed to exist beyond the characters. The secondary characters were also very one-dimensional.

Overall, The Vampire Debt lacked foundation, world-building and an editor. Seriously, it needs an editor. I couldn't ignore the grammatical and spelling mistakes, so this book is getting a lower rating from me.

I feel I should preface this review by saying that - SOMEHOW- I honestly had no idea that this was yet another Beauty and the Beast retelling. Not sure how I managed to completely miss that, but I did, and I would not have bought it if I’d known (I mean, I like vampires and the concept of ‘Beauty & the Beast with vampires’ does sound cool, but I just feel like B&tB retellings have been done to death already, there’s nothing new left to do there). If that’s your thing, then go for it. But I thought I was starting a new urban fantasy series, and now I have no idea why I though that?!

But anyway, I just wasn’t into this book. Speaking of ‘nothing new’, it might actually be more accurate to say that this is an A Court of Thorns and Roses retelling, just replace the word ‘faerie’ with ‘vampire’. Soo many of the details are the same, it surely can’t be a coincidence. Additionally, I didn’t like either of the main characters and I didn’t really believe that they liked each other either. The relationship felt forced, to me, and it did not seem to evolve naturally. But my biggest issue with this book is the editing. Or more importantly, the lack thereof.

I’m not sure if this book actually had an editor or not, but I’m inclined to think that it didn’t. It was in serious need of one. For example, at the beginning of the book, there are several references to how they used to be rich but lost everything (funnily enough, so did the family in ACOTAR...), and then the author seemingly just completely forgets about this, never mentions it again, and talks as though they’ve always been poor??

Some quotes from page one and two: ”I lift my favourite book from my chest ... It’s the only one I have left from before life went to hell” , and “A far cry from the luxury we used to have.”

And here are some quotes from a bit further into the book: ”I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t fighting just to survive” , and “All my life I’ve only had the one book” - I actually just did a search for “all my life” and she mentioned THREE times that she’s only ever had one book, despite making it perfectly clear on literally PAGE ONE that she used to have more. I can’t tell you how much this annoyed me and I can’t believe that an actual editor - or even just a beta reader - wouldn’t have picked up on this.

Then there are things like this quote: “I have lost my apatite”. That’s not how you spell appetite?? It is, however, how you spell the mineral apatite, so it wouldn’t have been picked up on if the only editor was SpellCheck...

There’s potential here, but it really just needed some more work. I won’t be reading the next one.

I'm a sucker for h who can kicka$$ with a bow. 🏹

"Slowly, I lift my bow. The fletching of my arrow grazes my cheek as I pull it back. The bowstring groans, halting my movements and my breath. I wait several heartbeats making sure the monster in my sights doesn’t notice my presence before it’s too late."

"I pull my arrow back a fraction more, my muscles straining. Then I let go."

Yup! I love it! If I had a fraction of the skill portrayed by Katniss Everdeen & Princess Merida, I'd be a VERY happy camper. 😁

So when this book started out with our h (Clara) displaying some killer skill 😜, I knew I had to 1-Click this bad boy and give it a try! 😉 The sample and my GR friend's review (Kat Valentine), left me no choice but to dive in and give it a try. And I'm very happy I did. 😍

"And then I get lost in new worlds I have never begun to imagine."

I really enjoyed where the author is going with this story. If you're like me, you L😍VE vampires 🧛‍♂️. Can't get enough! Because of a debt owed (hence the title The Vampire Debt), Clara finds herself as the property? slave? ward? to Alaric Devereaux. Our YUMMY YUMMY H with some sharp chompers, and a hardon for blood. Will she be killed? Will she escape? Will she find love? This book is part of a series, and I'm curious to find out what will happen next.

Only a few 🔥 kisses were shared between out H & h, and I'm not mad at it. They have a long way to go relationship wise if they're ever going to make it as a mixed race? creature? species? couple (vampire & human). He has a MAJOR reason for NEEDING to distance himself from our h, and she has a boo from back home. Why these weren't bigger issues when the attraction was thick, I couldn't tell ya.

"Dracula, and Beauty and the Beast, meet Pride and Prejudice"

🔶 So Dracula / vampire theme

🔶 Beauty & the Beast --> I'm not too sure about shipping this with that trope. Our H isn't really beast like. Actually, he's a sweetheart, and treats our h like a princess. If anything, our h is the beast/terror/hellion.

🔶 Pride and Prejudice --> Hmm.. He's RICH and she's DIRT poor. Not even close to the same social class, and lacking the witty banter found in Pride and Prejudice. They both dislike each other initially, so I guess they've got that going for them.

This series holds so much potential. Could have been fleshed out a little bit more. Would have enjoyed more dialogue, and less gaps in-between exchanges. Some editing here and there wouldn't hurt either, but overall... it's a trope I ADORE and thus has A LOT of wiggle room in the rating department.

Overall Rating → 4 STARS ⭐️ (I'm struggling between 3 and 4 STARS. Will probably go back and forth)

Would I recommend? → I liked it! Love vampire's captive trope 😍😍😍
Would I re-read? → maybe
Would I read more from this author? → yup. I'm curious how this turns out.

I managed to get myself an early ARC copy of TVD and I was blown away. Clara is such a strong main character whose only mission is to protect her sister and avenge her family.

She is determined and sweet, plus she likes to add hidden pockets into her dresses. (WHO DOESN'T LOVE POCKETS ON DRESSES?)

Alaric is handsome, cocky and the type of character you can't help but to have a love/hate relationship with. The interactions between Clara and Alaric are forking hilarious with various amounts of demon shits (Just wait until you get to this point in the story. I'm crying from laughing so hard.)

But what I am dying to know...….ARE WE GOING TO SEE MORE OF OLI? I NEEEEEEEEED HIM IN MY LIFE!!!!!

I loved everything about this book and I cannot wait to get my hands on the second novel.

What do you get when you cross Dracula Beauty and the Beast and Pride and Prejudice, The Vampire Debt and boy was i a happy girl, three of my favorite things in one book. Clara and Alaric will make you sigh at all the protectiveness and feeling that they bring to this book. When you finish Vampire Debt you will be sad because the second one isnt released yet but dont worry these characters will continue soon

One thing that I did NOT expect reading this book was the uncanny resemblance the whole plot line had to A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas. Sure there were certain elements that were solely its own.....but a LOT of it felt like a direct replication.

I WILL say this though, the writing was actually pretty solid. So reading the book ended up more like pleasurable trip to the good old days, rather than an annoying chore.

I was able to receive this as an ARC and I found myself eager to read more and more. I could not put it down.
I enjoyed the tension between the characters. Clara is strong and stubborn. Alaric handsome and dangerous, though still a gentleman.
The pull between them and their internal struggles is believable.
I am eager to continue to see how these characters grow together. Cannot wait for book 2.

Underdeveloped world and immature writing. Not sure what the plot was. Lots of typos and grammatical errors, plus plotholes. Characters weren't very likable either, tbh. Some interesting tension, which is why 2 stars; I did finish it. Generally underwhelming though.

OMG. WOW. This is amazing. I could not put it down once I started. I was hooked. It moves along at a pace that makes for an extremely comfortable read, being not too fat nor too slow. You will fall in love with these characters, no matter what they do. You want to see them succeed no matter what. The story will grab you from the beginning and not let you go until the very last page is read. When you get the end, you need more. Like now. This book has to be on your TBR list, there is no doubt about it, you will not be sorry that you did. I cannot wait for the thrilling book in this series.

Bezvadná upíří odpočinkovka, takže v téhle sérii rozhodně budu pokračovat 😄😁❤️.

Upíři na střední? Nope.
Upíři v gotickém sídle? Oujé!

I had an absolute blast with The Vampire Debt and I'm absolutely hooked – can't wait to dive into the rest of the series! 😄😁❤️

Vampires in high school? Nope.
Vampires in a gothic mansion? Oh yeah!

The Vampire Debt won't probably give you something super new in terms of the plot, but boy, did I have a great time with it. I found it extremely enjoyable.

I'd wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who wants to read a historical romance, where some of the characters are vampires and where demons haunt the surrounding woods. That's the vibe I got while devouring its pages! 😁😄

After all, it's presented as: Dracula and Beauty and the Beast meet Pride and Prejudice. I had fun. And yes, the retelling of Beauty and the Beast is there. You'll find classic themes from that fairy tale in there.

And as for the Pride and Prejudice angle? Well, let's just say that the dynamic between the main characters, Alaric Devereaux and Clara, has that vibes. Come to think of it, Alaric is a proud vampire, and our heroine, harbors deep-seated prejudice against his kind. And while Alaric isn't exactly a vegetarian, he's not as cruel as Clara thinks he is. He won me over 😄 and I really like his name.

With five books in the series, I'm eagerly anticipating where the story takes us next. I'm definitely going back to this series. Reading The Vampire Debt was such a fun escape; I can't wait to experience more of it!

I am absolutely giddy and flushed after reading this extraordinary vampires tale!! I want to squeal and shout out just how much I absolutely loved Clara and Alaric!!! This is a cunning and crafty twist to a Beauty and the Beast retelling! There is danger and daring and desire packed into this. Alaric is alluring and even though he's not human, he posses these human like qualities such as care, protection and warmth towards Cara. It makes him the total book boyfriend package!! Add in his gorgeous good looks and he's easy to drool over. Clara is doing her best to retain and even demand her independence. She's losing her heart along the way. With dashes of danger, Clara is being saved by Alaric time after time and it's sigh inducing at the least. These two are entertaining to read about and I'm very much enthralled by their growing feelings and the push and pull of their desires. Book two can not come quickly enough!! I'm more than a little anxious to see how Alaric gets Clara through the next edition! Ms. Winters took my breath away!!! This is going to steal away your heart and mind as well!! These characters are delicious and will tug upon your heartstrings!! Ali Winters has a hit upon her hands!! Join me in fangirling this ah-mazing author, pre-order this right now!!! You'll thank me later!

I’m not going to lie, even though I went in thinking this might not be great I still had some hope for it. There were definitely some cons to this but it still left me interested in the plot.

There really isn’t much to be said about the characters because I felt like they were pretty underdeveloped. The only thing that kept them decent was the tension between them. It’s an enemies to lovers type thing but there isn’t much loving.

The world was also very underdeveloped and left me needing a whole lot more. All we got were a few sentences for the setting and nothing more. I think this also had to do with the writing just being on the meh side overall.

This book also tries to be quite similar to a lot of things but it just doesn’t hold its own.

The only reason I didn’t DNF is because I was still intrigued as to what would happen plot-wise. I wouldn’t really say it blew me away either, it was just fine.

Overall, it was very bland. I did have hope because I do love vampires and even though there were decent moments it just wasn’t enough to keep me wanting to read the next books.

Poor Writing, Interesting Story

There are so many grammar mistakes laden throughout the novel. And there are instances that are just careless writing. For example: Clara falls to her knees. Then three sentences later, she falls to her knees again without ever having gotten up. Like the author forgot she already said she was on her knees. It’s small things like this that make it sloppy. However, the story is interesting and I enjoy the characters. Will read the second book out of curiosity.

Clara has taken it upon herself to be her sister's protector and and care giver. Clara also wants revenge for her mother's death, and she despises vampires because of her need for revenge. Clara is given to Alaric to settle her father's debt. Alaric dislikes humans because one hurt someone dear to him, and even so saves Clara multiple times. It is very bewitching to read the push and pull of their desires and the relationship forming even though they both say they don't want it. Will they get past their need for revenge? Read to find out! Page turning, fast paced read....I can't wait to read the next book!

Interesting story with a cool gothic feel. Clara lives in a world where vampires exist. Her mother was killed by a vampire, so Clara hates vampires and takes the first opportunity to kill one. Unfortunately, it puts her further into the vampire world. Also unfortunately, Clara’s dad is a horrible father; he gambles away all their money, so they barely have any food. Clara is 21 and can live on her own, but she stays for her sister; which really she should’ve gotten the sister and herself out of there sooner since her father offers the sister in exchange for his debts to a vamp. Clara volunteers herself in her sister’s place, so Clara has to leave her sister with her horrible father anyway. Clara and the vamp, Alaric, don’t get off to a good start, but there’s something there between them. I enjoyed Clara’s fight and sass, but it can get annoying. She lets her hatred blind her to what is actually reality, but she does handle herself pretty well in this very dangerous world she finds herself in. Things move a bit too slowly at times, but the whole story is still really entertaining! I’m so interested to see where the story is going to go! I really enjoy the intense dynamic between Alaric and Clara; they are enemies and are constantly at odds with each other, but as time goes on, they begin to understand each more. The connection between them really comes through. The whole story has a cool vibe, and the story felt unique to me. Looking forward to the rest of the series!

this one just wasn't it for me. i'm not saying don't read this one, especially if it sounds interesting to you. however, it did absolutely nothing for me in pretty much every way.

the plot was boring, even though i knew that it was sort of based off of beauty and the beast. i could definitely see the inspiration, but it wasn't executed well at all. my biggest issue with this book is the main plot point: we know that clara kills a vampire and we know why she does.

the pace was a mess too. it was a short book which is fine, however it did not work for this novel. there were so many details missing, so many time jumps that shouldn't have happened. if instead of time jumps, there was development, whether it be character or plot, then this novel might have affected me differently. i skimmed the last few chapters just to say that i finished this one when all i really wanted to do was dnf.

ok i'm done talking about this one, unfortunately it just wasn't my thing.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book. And I was blown away. It had everything I was looking for in a book with vampires. A twist between Twilight, Beauty and the Beast and Pride and Prejudice. The characters start off hating each other and as the story progresses they slowly find that they miss judged each other. And the beauty learns to care for the beast, even though she doesn’t want to. Even though she is prideful and hates his kind, she finds she can’t help but start to fall for him. There is plenty of conflict, twists and turns and a story that makes you root for the characters yet relate to their flaws at the same time.
I can’t wait for book 2, The Vampire Curse.

I loved, loved, LOVED this book. I love that the author took major events from the classic beauty and the beast style and made them wholly her own. From the rags to riches aspect to other iconic elements to the story most beauty and the beast stories have and twisted them into something both familiar and new.
If you're a fan of beauty and the beast retellings I highly recommend this series!
