Tiffany Reisz's USA Today bestselling Original Sinners series returns with the long-awaited sequel to The Queen.

When a New Orleans parish priest is found dead of an apparent suicide, the police see no reason to investigate. Private detective Cyrus Tremont knows a cover-up when he sees it, however. A former cop, he's seen it all...or so he thought.

Clues point him in the direction of Nora Sutherlin, an erotic romance writer who moonlights as a dominatrix. Together, they form an unlikely bond built on their shared need for justice.

As Cyrus is drawn deeper into Nora's underground world of pleasure and pain, what lines will he cross to discover the truth about the priest? And what will he and Nora do with the truth once they find it?

The Priest is the beginning of a new era for Reisz's Original Sinners series, and the perfect jumping-on point for new readers.

It's never safe to assume anything when reading a Tiffany Reisz book. Don't assume you know where the twisted story will lead. Don't assume your favorite characters will survive unscathed. Don't assume the story will leave your heart and soul intact - it won't. What you can assume (in fact you can take it to the bank) is that once you open the cover and step inside a Reisz book, you'll lose all sense of time and obligation until you read the final page. This author's uncanny ability to take readers and characters on a twisted, tortuous, emotional journey is truly amazing. With the flip of her wrist, Reisz casts a magical spell over everyone.

As The Priest begins, an investigation is opening into the death of a priest . . . one who tried to call Mistress Nora minutes before committing the ultimate sin. She hasn't a clue who he is so why did he reach out to her before killing himself? Intrigued and more than a little spooked, Nora is determined to solve the mystery in spite of the attention and risk it presents to everything and everyone she loves. Including Soren. To say this book touched and shook me to the core is an understatement. There's a lot I'd like to talk about, but I won't reveal spoilers. If you're a fan of the Original Sinners, you'll understand when you read The Priest. If you haven't read the series, all I can say is begin with book one and prepare to have your mind blown. Although the author does an excellent job of including background info, it'll be your loss if you skip reading previous books.

As always, Reisz delves deep into the main characters psyche and is comfortable stretching boundaries, going places others would never dare. Her writing is mesmerizing - it lures you in, holding you in a trance-like state until you lose yourself in the story with these characters. Keeping a watchful eye out as they attempt to justify and balance their desires and needs against the consequences. I felt Nora's pain as the horrific truth of this case hit a little too close to home, forcing her to take a hard look at her life and think about what and who brought her to this place at this time. Did she choose her path or was it chosen for her? Was it her destiny or fate? Soren isn't the only one with a hard decision to make. Nora's decision has the power to unravel and destroy the lives of those she loves most.

The Priest is another brilliantly rendered saga in the Original Sinners world. Reisz has delivered a tale of love, passion, truth, heartache, and forgiveness as the day of reckoning is nigh for some of our favorite characters. I love that the characters and story have opened a new chapter by moving to New Orleans. The author captures the spooky, illusive, other-worldly atmosphere of the city and people, expertly weaving it into the plot line, adding depth to this mysterious suspense story while driving it forward at a fast pace. Reisz introduces some new players in The Priest that I would love to see more of including Cyrus, Nora's new friend and fellow sleuth. And as always, I loved every painful moment with my favorite characters from previous books. Some serious revelations unfold in this one, especially between Soren and Nora. I don't mind admitting I held my breath through the last third or so of the book, offering up a prayer or two to please make things work out as I wanted. I won't reveal if my prayers were answered or not, but will just say my heart is still beating a little too fast, my soul is a bit bruised, and I still have chill bumps on my arms even though I finished this one last night. As always, Tiffany Reisz entertained me while torturing and manipulating my heart. The Priest is intimate, erotic, sometimes humorous, always emotional - with a shot of deceit and honesty all rolled into one fantastic addition to the OS series. Remember - don't assume anything . . . just hold on to the remote possibility you'll survive this journey heart intact. As for my recovery, the jury's still out. Highly Recommended!

4.5 stars. I don't really know how to feel about this. Almost everything I want to say would be a huge spoiler.

For the most part, I loved it. It was Nora, Søren & Kingsley and that's always my ideal. Nora seems to be happier and more settled *as much as she ever is, LOL* into her life. There doesn't seem to be any more turmoil about where, and with who, she belongs. But Nora is still Nora, and I'm always vastly entertained by that. Kingsley seems to be semi-retired from the kink scene. He still has a club but most of his time on page was with his family, waiting for the birth of his & Juliette's second child. Søren, unusually, is the one with some difficult decisions to make, due to the fallout of informing the Jesuits of the existence of Fionn.

A priest is dead, having committed suicide. The police department was warned off investigating further by the Church, so a PI was engaged on the side to dig a little deeper. One of his last calls minutes before his death was to Nora, a call she never received. No one knows why, as Nora didn't know him.

Cyrus Tremont is the PI investigating the death of Father Murran. He questions Nora about the phone call to her, and of course Nora has questions of her own. She ends up sort of helping Cyrus in his investigation, since she can go places in the kink world he can't, and they become friends. I really liked Cyrus and I liked the friendship they formed. I think a real friend, outside of her family, is something Nora needed, and so did Cyrus.

The terrible result of this investigation causes Nora to question some things that are a large part of the foundation of her life and it shakes her up badly, so badly it really scared me for what the consequences might be. And Nora does make a huge decision, one that I'm sure will have impact somewhere down the line. But thank God she didn't make the change I thought she was going to make, because that might have been the end of me, though if you'd told me that at the beginning of this series, I'd have told you to quit smokin' that crack. Because at the end of The Siren, I was kinda all WTF? O.O I had no idea how far this series was going to take me or how much I would come to love these characters, all of them, so much.

And that brings me to the reason I didn't give this 5 stars, though I did love it. Spending time with these book-people is always pure win, the plot was interesting, engaging, and in the end, brutally painful. On the bright side, getting such an intimate look at Søren and Nora together was amazing. However, this ended on more of a HFN, because Søren still has to make his decisions. And I can't stop worrying over what the final one may be. Still, this world is much loved and time in it is always my favorite. Here's hoping there's more to come.

That aside, this book was a joy just for the fact that I got more of my favorite Sinners when I didn't think there was going to be any more. <3

IT'S LIVE EARLY!!!!

Where do I start? I don't want to say too much.

But what I do have to say first ....This is officially book #9 in this series. Tiffany says readers new to the series can read it without knowing anything about the other books. And yes, that may be true ... but I wouldn't do that. I am way too book-OCD-ish to start a series with book 9!! If you want to read this book, please read all the others first - they are SO good! Believe me, you do NOT want to miss any second you can get with our darlings!

Now this book. The Priest. This Priest is not really our Priest - Søren - it's a Priest who killed himself - or was killed - in New Orleans. The city where our darlings now all live. And PI Cyrus is tasked to find out what really happened ... which brings him right into the the adorable and crazy world of Nora and her boys! LOL! Poor guy.

We hear a lot about Nora, Søren, King, Juliette & Celeste. But we also hear a lot about the PI and his future wife Paulina.

The Priest is a bit of a sexy mystery suspense novel. We get lots of New Orleans, lots of interesting and mysterious moments and dangerous moments, very erotic moments. Funny moments. Sad and heartbreaking moments.

There's not much more I want to say. If you love the Sinners, you will love this book too and if you're new to the series - it's a really great story, but you might want to start with book #1 - it would be way too confusing and sad for me - as a new reader - to have missed so much!

I loved reading THE PRIEST. Even though I'm super anti religion, this series and its people are just some of the most beautiful things in the bookworld for me. It was another typical Tiffany Reisz masterpiece.

I can't wait to hear more from our darlings!

Temptation, boredom, and my contrary nature pushed me to check out this latest Tiffany Reisz offering in the Original Sinners, which I would probably say it's one of the best erotica series, except that I haven't read many, actually, Tiffany Reisz's books are the only ones I still check out, because she can write well.

And what better time to read about a Catholic priest, a kinky one, but at Easter? ;-) {Sorry, not sorry. }
Nora, Soren and Kingsley, the formidable trio. I don't know if I'd outgrown them but I didn't quite feel their connection. I enjoyed meeting a couple of new characters, such as Cyrus Tremont, a private investigator who's looking into a priest's suicide. There's also a witch, a good one. In saying all that, I didn't buy the almost instant friendship between Cyrus and Nora, I thought it was too cutesy, not to mention, unlikely. And Nora was blabbering way too much about her relationship with Soren, the Jesuit priest, who was now suspended for a year.

As far as I'm concerned, Soren and Kingsley lost whatever allure they might have had in the past. It's possible I outgrew them.

The final chapters resurrected this novel, as they delved into the sexual abuse and the coverups of the Catholic Church, which also made Nora and Sore question their relationship and things that happened in the past.
I also appreciated the feminist stance, better said, the power of women sticking together.

I received this novel via Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review.

The Original Sinners are a group that I adore. Søren, Nora and Kingsley embedded themselves way back in The Siren(Book 1 in the series) and I was hooked. The writing, the storytelling, the intriguing characters are such an addicting combination that I couldn’t wait till I got my hands on The Priest.

I will say this story was a little different in that it was a little more suspenseful in a “who done it” storyline with questioning the “what ifs” of the past. There is pure passion in the book but it is not heavy in bdsm like many of the past books.

I loved the new characters introduced and the suspenseful nature of the plot but what shinned for me was the exposing nature of Nora and Søren’s relationship. The what if’s, the whys, the what would have been, were all uncovered and discussed and left to simmer until it boiled. I had some heart palpitations but in the end, there was only one direction their relationship could go and for that, I was was immensely happy.

I do look forward to more from These Original Sinners because Søren’s future isn’t set in stone yet. But I do believe that Mercedes may have given us a hint, that’s if you believe the cards.

Continuing in the Original Sinners timeline, Nora Sutherlin has relocated to New Orleans with her chosen family. While Søren is suspended for one year and Kingsley and Juliette are expecting baby number two, a local priest is found dead and Nora was his last phone call. A local detective, Cyrus Tremont, is hired to get answers, but after meeting Nora, he discovers there may be many more questions.

“If the day comes when I can’t give you anything, at least here, now, I can give you everything.”

This plot skirts the dividing line between an Original Sinners book and a spinoff. While I liked aspects of both, I was torn at times because I really wanted to delve more into certain plot developments between Nora and Søren which kept me captivated. However, I also enjoyed how Nora and Cyrus cultivated their friendship while investigating the case.

As usual, Nora is in typical form, as well as, the Søren and Kingsley. The depth of these characters is ever apparent, showing a range of humor, pain and ultimately love. Selfishly, I would have liked to peek in the window of Søren’s bedroom on one particular night and absolutely loved the ultimate adventure on another night.

The Priest is an erotic story with mystery yet also delves into the weakness and strengths of its characters.

Genre: Romantic Suspense
Type: Book 9 from The Original Sinners series
POV: Third Person
Rating:

After years of hiding their relationship, Nora and Søren were adapting well towards their newfound freedom. But as they established routines, a case pulled her into a different direction and if not careful, could derail their hard-fought relationship.

I was excited and nervous when I saw my favorite romance/erotica series is continuing with a full-length book. However, this book was not at all what I expected. Personally, I think this book could work better as a spin-off than as part of the main series because this book didn’t focus on the original characters. It was much lighter and borderline vanilla. It didn't exactly fit The Original Sinners brand. As a long time fan of the series, it was quite perturbing with the direction it’s going.

“You know your past. I know mine. Do we have any right to be as happy as we are?”

Nora will always be one of my favorite heroines. She was fun and daring as usual. This story introduced a new character Cyrus Tremont, which I liked. His encounters with anything kinky was amusing. I enjoyed the mystery and investigative elements in the story, and the culture/location added an exotic feel.

The Priest is a story of uncovering truth and breaking free. It would appeal to readers who enjoy romantic suspense.

Note: I love Søren's special gift to Nora.

You know what?

I *think* this might be the first Reisz book I've read wherein my face didn't leak. Took me 9 books but I finally got there!

*does victory lap*

First things first, The Priest really is more of a crime thriller/mystery than your traditional OS book. I thought I would find that disappointing but instead I found myself not only engrossed but committed to trying to figure out why Father Ike would've committed suicide. I did not foresee the reason and I loved that while also applauding Ms. Reisz for the twist. I'll say no more, but I was moved.

Even though this is a new beginning for the Sinners all the major players are present and accounted for not to mention still kinky as ever. Though The Priest is not as erotic as other books in the series, it still has it's moments. I'm looking at you, blood play scene. But I have to be honest, I missed Søren and King being together. I feel like Søren can let his pain flag fly with King and I felt a little cheated by not getting that scene. Then again, I am extremely kinda biased in their favor.

Firmly ensconced in NOLA now which opens the door for new characters and Cyrus Tremont is one such character. He and Nora have symmetry that grows as the investigation evolves. More characters are introduced but NOLA truly is a main character in this book. I felt like I was there on Bourbon Street, sunning on Lake Pontchartrain or getting a drink to go while lazing the day away getting lost in the French Quarter. It felt like anything was possible with all the witchcraft/voodoo/general weirdness references all of which set a different tone, one I don't recall having experienced before in an OS book. I have to be honest, I'm looking forward to experiencing it again in book 10 and finding out what Søren decides.

I'm going to go with 4.5 stars and anyone who's interested in a absorbing mystery with a side of kink should take The Priest out for spin.

"Something tells me it's coming. Storm clouds gathering. I can see them."
You and me both, Søren. Elements in this book have been a long time coming, and long talks overdue, but Reisz had it all mapped out and the timing was perfect. A smart book that explores issues related to race, gender, and the abuse of power. Misconduct wears many faces. Tiffany Reisz, I am so proud of you.

Full of mystery, new friends, humor, sexy fun, and important themes, Reisz never disappoints. The Priest is labeled as the 9th installment in an established series but don't worry about that. You can safely pop your cherry with this Original Sinner without consequence. It's the perfect entry for newbies...and just think of all the reading material awaiting you once you're done. Check it out!

I like this series. This one you could probably read out of order since they recap some of the more important events from the past, but in order to really "get" it, you should probably start from book 1.

This one is a little different since it's got a mystery vibe to it. I like the P.I. character, Cyrus Tremont. A good portion of the story was about him and the investigation to find out if a priest found dead had committed suicide and if so, why? I liked the twisty story along with some of Nora's kink. I was really happy to see that Cyrus didn't want to get with Nora like every other male character in these books.

Nora, of course can do no wrong, and everyone loves her to the point of worship(except Cyrus in this case). That is a constant throughout the series that kind of bothers me.

I gave this 4 stars because Nora ended up making a decision that I didn't agree with. It might have ended up working out in the book, but in reality it would have been far worse for the others involved, probably to the point of ruining their lives indefinitely. She took the road of "Better to ask for forgiveness than ask for permission." For other readers it might not be a deal breaker.

Overall, a good addition to the Sinners series.

Written with incredible imagery and kink. Damn it’s good.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’ve read a few of Tiffany’s books in the past but I don’t believe I’ve read any of the past series this is attached to but that is something that will be changed as soon as possible.
Holy smokes. This book is intense in many different ways. From the dark edges of New Orleans, dripping with heat both temperature wise and sensuality, The Priest pushes many boundaries.
It’s an investigation like no other where darkness permeates minds, people, and places, but yet Reisz makes sure to bring humor and lightness, love and pleasure in a delicate balance too.
This book was an amazing read and I cannot wait to dive into more with this new series and take a look back at the old. Many references to the rest of the series, but you can follow easily with this new story.
A must read for those who like to push boundaries of what is acceptable; including BDSM, erotica, and a passion unlike you’ve read before.
I simply loved the depth of this book and am now utterly addicted the the Priest. Bring me more!
“You and Kingsley know I love you. You see me all the time. You have me in your lives. Fionn lives across the ocean. He doesn’t know I exist. If the time comes and we meet again and I need to explain myself to him… I want him to know I always loved him, that’s all.”
“That’s Mistress Little One to you.”
The unholy trinity, together with Kingsley's family, are settling and enjoying their life in New Orleans and with Søren being suspended, he and Nora were enjoying and basking their new found layer in their relationship. “This is weird, walking with you at night in public.”
When Nora's business card is found on a priest who committed suicide, our residence dominatrix, being quite intrigued, becomes a concerned sleuth together with PI Cyrus Tremont.
I liked this new route Tiffany Reisz has taken. Not the only the endeavour in trying to resolve the why behind the suicide, but also the mystic of New Orleans was a compelling combination.
While Nora is indulging her new sleuthing ambition, Søren is watching and making sure she is mindful and taking precautions. And he sure as hell makes sure they are both content and satisfied. And his gift to Nora? Awesome, “It’s incredibly…generous? Let’s go with that. Incredibly generous—and brave—of you to offer.”
While I'll always relish getting back in touch with the unholy trinity, this was so very different from the other books. I missed King and would have really liked to read his and Søren's scene.
“After last night, he’ll be needing more than a day to recover,” Søren said with a little sinister note of giddiness in his tone.
Part of the The Original Sinners Series that is best enjoyed when read in order:
My level of excitement for this release was immeasurable since I will never get my fill of Nora, Kingsley, and Søren. I am completely obsessed and fascinated by this unholy trio and one would think after nine installments, the story-lines would become stale, tiresome, or monotonous. Nothing could be further from the truth. With The Priest, Reisz once again penned a novel that consumed me from beginning to end, leaving me both satisfied with the story told, yet craving more. She is a siren whose call lures me deep into her kinky and taboo world, never wanting the experience to cease. A genius of an author who's gifted with the immense talent to create such fascinating characters I love to revisit. So, whether you are a long-time or newbie fan, this tale will not disappoint and is an outstanding addition to this beloved series.
For me, The Priest had a different vibe than the previous installments and I can't quite put my finger on exactly why. Perhaps it could be attributed to their departure from New York/Connecticut to Louisiana, coupled with the fact that the main characters are more mature and trying to settle into their new lives. Regardless, this story was exceptional, giving us insight into the more "coupley" relationship between Nora and Søren as well as the dark and shrouded mystery surrounding a dead priest, which is somehow linked to our Mistress.
The major plot-line revolved around Nora and her new PI friend, Cyrus Tremont, as they take on the grueling task of investigating Father Ike's sudden and inexplicable suicide. The reasons why his last phone call made was to Nora's old NY phone number were unknown, and the secrets these two unraveled on their quest for the truth had me on constant pins and needles. The circumstances haunted me throughout this read and the effects they had on Nora pulled on my heartstrings.
Also, we see a different, more vulnerable side of the confident and omniscient Søren. He’s struggling greatly while on a one-year suspension from the Jesuit order, after confessing to fathering Fionn. Seeing him in a different light, taking a step back from his church duties, I was happy to see more relationship time between him and Nora. However, Søren’s predicament had me beyond curious and frightfully concerned about the fate of all these characters.
Brimming with suspense, passion, kink and witty banter, The Priest was by far one of the most intriguing and compelling stories within the series. Tiffany Reisz had me on edge, page after page, holding my breath with every plot twist and turn. Loved seeing some old friends such as Kingsley, Juliette, and the adorable Céleste, as well as the new characters of Cyrus, his fiancée Paulina and the bewitching Mercedes. Another magnificently written 10-star read, and I cannot wait for book 10!!
Tiffany Reisz is back with another Original Sinners book! THE PRIEST marks book nine in the series and I would read the series in order. Although this reads fine as a standalone, you wouldn’t know the context and history of the characters in the book.
I’ve noticed that Reisz has gone for a different tone in this book. THE PRIEST has a bigger emphasis on a murder mystery. As a lover of Mysteries, I was really intrigued by this concept. At the beginning of the book, a priest is dead and it is believed to be a suicide. However, Nora is the last person who was in contact with the priest, so they want to know what happened.
I felt like Reisz was trying hard to make this book more interesting with the mystery. I liked it, but also felt like it was kind of out of place in some areas. I still don’t really know how I feel about it. I think for some people who don’t normally read Mysteries, then this might be enough for them to enjoy. But since I read a lot of them already, something about this one just didn’t click fully for me. Nevertheless, I do applaud the author for trying something new.
A lot of the characters are still present in this book. The character that I was most excited about is Kingsley obviously. He’s my favorite character of the series and to be honest, I wish there was more scenes with him. I could read about him all day. He’s just so fascinating to me.
I enjoyed the fact that Reisz has returned to this world and I’m hoping that more books will come from this series, especially if they center around Kingsley! Please write more books about him!
I loved it! I still love Søren. He's so touching with his love for Fionn and his tattoo on his wrist where his pulse is. He's my favorite character of the Tiffany Reisz series. And as long as he lives and we can read about him, I'll keep reading Ms. Reisz's novels. If she kills him or if he disappears from her novels, I will disappear from her readership; it's as simple as that. She could even write a novel to tell us what Søren did while he was travelling alone. No need to tell much more about his unhappy childhood, no need to recount us his long time adventure with Nora in reverse, from his point of view. Just a Kerouac "On the Road" story would be great. Not even necessary to show him fucking in his SM way with boy or girl "on the road". I love so much Søren that I'd be happy even without that ;)
Imagine him with shorter hair and a Roman collar. Hmmm! I would start believing in God again. lolll
It's not the best book of the Original Sinners series, but it's not far. I recommend it!
I would have given 4½ stars, but half stars aren't possible here. Since I'm in a kind mood, I'll give it five stars.
Many thanks to the author, the publisher and Netgalley for an ecopy of this excellent book.
5 stars.
Yep! I reread it already. I had to! When my precious paperback copy arrived, I couldn't just put it on my bookshelf without reading it. Not after worrying my pre-order would be cancelled. Not after worrying my book would get lost on its way to me like another one I really looked forward to did. (Damn those viruses!)
It's always lovely to read a book I loved in paperback, but that's not why my rating went up half a star. No, it's because this time I knew how the mystery would play out. As a result I wasn't a depressed mess at the end.
The Sinners seem to be leading a calmer life in New Orleans. As much as I enjoyed reading about their drama filled lives in New York, I loved this. It's a different place, and different lives. Different people, really.
It was a pleasure finding out who the Sinners are in New Orleans. Older, wiser, "settled down", some finally human. I liked the dynamic among the characters. All of them. Finally!
I loved Nora in this. I've always loved the stories where Nora is Nora, and not Eleanor more. This one could be my favorite. And the new additions, I really liked them too.
Some heavy topics were covered, but I'd rather not get into that. Don't wish to become a depressed mess again.
More changes are on the horizon for the Sinners. I look forward to reading about them.
Even after all these years, and all the novels, novellas, and all the short stories, I still drop everything to read the new book in The Original Sinners series.
And even after all these years and all those stories, Tiffany Reisz still surprises me.
When I first read The Siren, I was left speechless. So many surprises held the chapters of that book. Then I thought I knew what to expect from The Angel. I was so wrong, I couldn't have been more wrong. With two books read, I once again thought I knew what to expect, this time with The Prince. Cocky youth! I was wrong. I was wrong again with The Mistress. I think that was when I learned my lesson: Always expect the unexpected. It's served me well. By the time The Priest came around, I knew better than to try to answer the question What will happen in the book?. I expected the unexpected, and the unexpected I got.
It says this is the beginning of a new era in The Original Sinners series. It felt that way. Our Sinners are in a new place, geographically and mentally. After all the ups and downs, the fights, the drama, the life-threatening situations, they are living new lives. Happier lives. Calmer lives. How weird it was, after everything, to read about Nora and Kingsley arguing about paint colors. It was nice. Sweet. But still weird.
Also nice, sweet and weird was Nora and Søren's relationship. Now that Søren is suspended, he and Nora were spending more time together, and they weren't doing it in hiding. It was like a normal-ish relationship.
And I can't say sweet without thinking of Kingsley's fussing over the people in his life. He was adorable. I was somewhat disappointed there wasn't more of him in the novel, but I understood it. Since it says this is the beginning of a new era, I'm hoping there will be books focusing on him in the future.
Keeping with the theme of good stuff from the book, when I started reading The Priest, I was reminded of The Siren. The Siren started with Zach, then introduced us to Nora, and we learned about their complicated lives, and we got to meet her kinky world through both of them. In the later books that were solely from the Sinners' perspectives, I admit I missed reading about them and their world from an outsider's perspective.
Well, The Priest introduces us to Cyrus Tremont with a happy love life, as opposed to Zach's when we met him. Cyrus's private life filled him with joy. His work as a private detective helping women and children was satisfying.
Then -- and now we're heading into murky waters -- a priest committed suicide.
Cyrus was asked to investigate further, because the police wasn't going to. The officials were to rule it a suicide caused by depression and be done with it. One officer sensed there was more to the story, and asked Cyrus's help. His investigation led him to our very own Nora Sutherlin, as she was the last person the priest had called before he killed himself. That fact was enough for Nora to join Cyrus on his mission. They were fast friends. I loved their interactions. His and Nora's, his and Søren's. Plus, it was interesting reading about them uncovering clues. The people they met along the way were even more interesting.
Then it got sad. Horrific, really. The truth Cyrus and Nora uncovered was horrific.
See, you can never guess where Tiffany Reisz's story will go.
After the discovery of what led up to the priest's suicide, surprises didn't stop. Nora's decision. Søren's decision. Søren's... something else. The talks they had. The huge question marks about things I held up at the end.
Well, this can't be THE END, right? It's THE BEGINNING. I'm holding onto those words and not letting go. The Original Sinners: New Orleans has only just started!
What can I say in the end? I loved reading something new about the Sinners. (Next time, more about Kingsley, please.) I loved meeting new characters. And I loved that the story had it's twists and turns, though some of them hurt.
There's a quote in the book: Here is the world. Beautiful and terrible things will happen. Don't be afraid.
You could easily say:
Here is the world of the Original Sinners. Beautiful and terrible things will happen. Don't be afraid. Just read.
Two reasons to bust out the dancing Ron GIF.
#1 - This is what it says about The Priest:
"The Priest is the beginning of a new era for Reisz’s Original Sinners series, and the perfect jumping-on point for new readers."
A new era. That is all I see.
A NEW ERA!
#2 - Lately I've been obsessively checking NetGalley expecting/hoping for The Priest.
It's there. It's Read Now. It's in my Kindle library. Good things are happening these days too.
Here I am...staring off into space, wondering what I am going to do with my life now that I've finished this book. Was this my favorite in the series? No. Did I enjoy it? Absolutely. You see, Nora Sutherlin is probably one of my...if not, the favorite...book heroines ever for me. I adore the way Ms. Reisz has written her. The way after 9 books and countless novellas she doesn't veer from character canon...Nora's smart, savvy, beautiful, wicked, jaded...and a wee bit broken. This lady has been through some *stuff*, I want to be her when I grow up. This cast of characters is wildly entertaining and...an unconvential family that you can't help but root for.
The Priest definitely focuses more on Nora, than on Søren, Kingsley or the rest of the crew...although we do get name drops of the rest. We get introduced to Cyrus, a private detective, whom I absolutely adore. And Mercedes...who, well, I'm not going to spoil any of that business.
This book could potentially be a standalone, but I really don't know why anyone would want to go into this series blind at this point...there is so much amazing backstory you'd be missing out on this far in...and I'm being completely honest here, this series is one of my favorites, ever!
A couple of standout lines here.
Excuse me. Dracula. Elvira. Can we focus? *giggle*
...you understand why women desire-sometimes, not all the time, and certainly not all women-to submit to a powerful man as it's so hard to be a woman in a world so hostile to women. The fantasy of having a powerful protector is a potent one when it seems like the threats from dangerous men are everywhere all the time.
I laughed, I cried. And man, even though there isn't as much in this book as some of the others, the smut is nuclear. I'll miss them until-God, I hope there's a next time...a novella...a something, please tell me there's a something in the future, because this ending, not a cliffhanger, but wow, I just am already sad and missing everything about them! Thank you to NetGalley and 8th Circle Press for the advance release copy in exchange for an honest review. 4 stars.
I’ve missed these guys so much. I know we get Sinners Christmas presents and sometimes Halloween presents, but to get another entire book was priceless. All the Christmas, Easter and Eid gifts in one.
In crazy, crazy times I read this book. The fact that it took me longer than usual to read it is nothing to do with the book not being gripping, it’s because watching the news became a must.
Nora becomes Scooby Doo solving the mystery of the death of father Ike Murrow. The whole who/what/why with Cyrus Tremont, a man who deserves a medal because he might be the only guy ever in the history of the Sinners that Nora hasn’t wanted to fuck.
The Priest has some spooky shit going on. Vampires, witches, warlocks, What’s Up Doc jokes and even more scary is Søren. Always. Always scary but this one had me panting for him. Pass me the smelling salts I feel a bit peculiar.
I would have loved more King but I had lots of him in The Chateau and I shouldn’t be so greedy.
Tonight I’m going to bead my tree.
At a time when our world is threatened by a virus that’s killing so many there is always a book to escape into and I’m so thankful for Mistress Little One.
“If enough people all over the world were singing the same song at the same time, the whole world could hear it.”
“They all needed that time. They were like injured animals, isolating themselves from the pack to lick their wounds and privately heal.”
“So easy to choose between good and evil. So hard to choose between good and good. Hardest of all to choose between what you want to do and what you want to do and what you ought to go.”
It’s almost like TR knew the apocalypse was coming. Stay safe Søren, Nora and King.
My feelings are mixed, on the one hand I didn't want to read it because I feel the author doesn't know when to stop with this series and characters, but on the other hand, I've been reading about the Sinners for years and I just wanted to know what happens next in their lives.
This book and I didn't have a good start, why couldn't have this been written from anyone else's point of view, other than Nora's? I'm over her, I don't like her humor, and I don't buy her instant friendship with Cyrus. It's still the same, everyone just loves quirky Nora as soon as they meet her *eye roll*
I liked Mercedes, I wish she had a more prominent role.
What I did love was the ending! I'm not gonna get into the whole mystery aspect of the book, but it did lead to some very important developments in Soren and Nora's relationship. I feel like before this entire world has been glamourized and shown as perfect, here for the first time Nora and Soren take a good look into their relationship, what it means, and how it began, when she was 15, it wasn't perfect, was he grooming her, did she ever had a chance at a normal life?
Two more very important things happen at the end, Nora decides to leave Catholic Church, she can't support church that covers up abuses of children and doesn't allow women to advance. And we get a scene where Soren finally submits to Nora, I feel like that was author's special treat for us her readers.
I've always wanted to dive into this series but hadn't had the chance early on. This was the perfect starting point for me and I loved, loved, loved, LOVED this story! Definitely one to put on your reading list!
ARC from Netgalley
DNF @ 14%, so no rating. I don't feel like much has happened in this book so far, and I feel like the tone is different from the rest of the series. 14% in, and I'm already over how stunning and beautiful every single character is. This is also a case of being careful what you wish for. Because while I always want more of The Original Sinners, I feel like this series has run its course.
This book was both fun and thought provoking. Fun in Nora's antics with a PI trying to figure out the reason why a priest was calling her five minutes before killing himself (that wasn't the fun part though, her antics with the PI were). She didn't get the call since it was to her old New York number from an old business card from before moving to New Orleans.
So the mystery was why did this priest call her, and how did he get her card, and who gave it to him? She didn't pass out that card when she was in New Orleans 2 years prior when she was in town to buy her home. It was from that time since it was the old number. She can't figure out why some random priest she never heard of or met would have her card and be calling her. So she joins up with the PI tasked with answering those questions and away they went.
Meanwhile Soren is making the most of his "sabbatical" and Kingsley is going slightly crazy as Juliette is weeks away from giving birth to his third child.
There were some big paradigm shifts that happen in the final few chapters. Be prepared to see the characters in a new light. There are some dark themes, and heavy conversations about Soren and Nora’s relationship origins. Some realizations that maybe Soren wasn't such a "good priest" towards a teenage Elinore. Nora comes to some realizations of her own. The mystery is the backdrop to the conversations that happen in the book. It is the catalyst of the changes made. Nora makes new friends and Soren seems happy to be right at home with her. Although he ends up getting his own home, "a gift, a trifle" from Kingsley.
However, I will spoil this - everyone is still together in the end. Soren makes his appearance early on and stays throughout the book. Lots of him and Nora action.
This book reminded me of The Siren in that Nora and Cyrus have the most screen time and Cyrus and his own fiancée have screen time away from the unholy trinity. Unlike the Siren, Soren is no longer a mystery and he isn't hiding Nora away. He is out and proud. It was a bit odd hearing him talk about being in love with Nora and having a child while he was a priest (read the series to figure that out if you haven't already) with an almost complete stranger (Cyrus).
In the previous books Nora and Soren had to sneak around, Nora's biggest wish was for her to be able to fix Soren's morning coffee. In this book they are walking down Bourbon street together and going into bars. It basically answered the question of "What would they be like if Soren wasn't a priest". Although it wasn’t' outright said, it's pretty apparent in the end that when the year is up, Soren will be going back to the Church again and taking up his collar.
Read the book, you know you will. You just read this review to make sure Soren and Nora are in it together, that they still have sex and they are happy. Yes, Yes, and Pretty much!
Now, can we please get a book with Nora and Nico?
I got no words. These characters mean so much to me.
And to read this new era for them. Incedible.
To see them evolve and adapt to these new and different for them situations was EPIC.!!!
Not gonna lie, I would love a little more elaboration on some things but I cannot deny that I don't care for them. I only care for my babies, The Unholy Trinity. And this book gave me all the feels.
Kingsley is and always gonna be the best of the best. I wanna see so much more of this 'new' Kingsley with his family. And I did need to have read the whole scene *wink* *wink* with Søren.
Søren's gift to Nora. My jaw was dropped to the floor. Like what??? I was like. 'Is this gonna happen?' And it did and it was everything. And omg seeing Søren being soo different from the other books and getting to know him even more was my fave.
And Nora, her evolution is amazing. I wanna see where her path in life is gonna take her. And I soo wanna read more of her and Søren.
And omg Cyrus and Paulina.. I need more of them. Like the crumbs we had for their relationship had me soo intrigued.
Nora did need a guy friend who is only gonna be a friend. And Cyrus was the best option.
I just want more of these characters. Like even when I don't agree with some things or if I don't like some things. I don't care. The writing is exceptional and it captivates me every time. This Series gave me life, opened up my mind in so many levels and Tiffany created my fave (ever) characters. So yeah. GIVE ME MORE.
