Divorce is Murder by Elka Ray is a 2019 Seventh Street Books publication.

Great start to a new mystery series!

Family law attorney, Toby Wong, is stunned to learn that her newest client is none other than Josh Barton, a guy she had a massive crush on as a teen. Josh and Toby met while attending a summer camp together, but Toby’s experience at the camp was marred by bullying, mainly from a group of girls whose ringleader, Tonya, ended up marrying Josh. Now Josh wants to divorce Tonya and needs a good attorney.

Although Josh threw Toby under the bus way back at summer camp, she still finds him attractive. Against her better judgment, she agrees to take his case. However, it seems Tonya has pulled a disappearing act. Their worst fears are finally confirmed when Tonya is found murdered. Now Josh is suspect number one and the evidence against him just keeps piling up. Toby joins forces with Josh’s criminal attorney hoping to clear him.

As Toby’s memories of that long -ago summer resurface, her feelings for Josh remain conflicted. However, Colin Destin, the detective working the case, might be the distraction she needs to get over her teenage crush. Meanwhile, Toby’s best friend and her fortune-telling mother offer help and advice, whether Toby wants it or not.

The further Toby digs into Tonya’s life, the murkier the case becomes, as shocking revelations come to light about Tonya, her friends, and possible lovers. Is Josh innocent or is Toby’s judgement clouded by her feelings for him? Could she be putting herself in danger?

This is a fun romantic mystery, packed with humor, zany characters, with just a small amount of poignancy, and a dollop of romance on top. While this is a solid whodunit, there is a gentle message about the lasting effects of bullying.

The story moves at a quick pace, with several interesting twists and curve balls tossed in, keeping me on my toes.

I think I’m going to really like Toby. I love the diversity in the book, and feel the series has a lot of potential. This book falls within the perimeters of the cozy mystery genre, but any fan of pure mysteries will enjoy this one. I’m interested in seeing how the series develops from here and what adventures Toby will encounter next!

This was just what I needed when I was in a bad mood. A great cozy mystery with just the right blend of romance and mystery with her mom and pregnant friend in the mix as well. This one feelt bit more in the serious category then other cozy mystery. But thats one of the reason on why it's a great read! But not quite a 5 stars but I will definitely read the next book in the series

A divorce lawyer’s past romantic interest in a client makes for an emotionally harrowing case, especially when the client’s wife is now missing!
I really liked this novel. I’m not much of a reader of mysteries without the thriller element, and I do not like cozy mysteries at all. But I would say this one rides the line between all three, and it works very well. Ray’s characters are rich and fully developed. Witty dialogue and interesting relationships make this a perfect balance between romance and mystery. I would even say there could be a little bit more romance in here. Handsome, charming, and mysterious (as it’s up in the air as to whether he may have had something to do with his wife’s disappearance) Josh Barton is an intriguing character. And he becomes more appealing as the story goes on.

I would highly recommend this little gem by a very talented author. Divorce is Murder is well-written, fast-paced, and a page-turner. I would be very interested in reading another Elka Ray novel.

I received an advanced copy of the novel in exchange for my honest review.

It’s a cute mystery novel that keeps you engaged and guessing on who the killer is until the end. The pacing was perfect and the story flowed well. I like the chemistry between Toby and her two suitors Josh and Colin. The ending left me wanting more, I can’t wait for the next book to hopefully see who Toby picks.

A long-ago traumatic experience at Camp Wikwakee leaves Toby with shameful feelings in adulthood. And, yes, she’d gotten counseling. But just when she thinks she’s making progress; she’s reminded again of that humiliating awful night.

Toby now an attorney returned to her hometown in Victoria Canada to care for her mother, Ivy. One of her first clients was Josh, the best-looking and most unattainable guy from summer camp. The memories burnt into her mind come full circle when she sees him.

She debated whether to represent him. The attraction to him was strong. But seeing him brought back the repulsion of being confined in the damp insect ridden Wikwakee cabin and the fallout afterward. She wondered if he stood up for her against the bullies. Somehow, she doubted it since he married the most vicious bully of all, Tonya Cabrilatto.

Now, he’s seeking a divorce attorney and melting in his presence with conflicting feelings, she had agreed. Her role changed quickly when he became a prime suspect in the murder of his wife. She referred him to the leading criminal attorney in town, Jackie, who is also her best friend Quinn’s mother.

Jackie recovering from injuries enlisted her aid for building a case for him. Toby investigates and finds incriminating evidence involving those from summer camp. Josh lied to her and yet she still gets flustered and was gullible to his advances. But, is he a psychopath with murderous tendencies?
Divorce is murder and the nemeses from camp are involved. And, one murdered Tonya, Josh’s wife. How far back does the treachery go – Camp Wikwakee?

Ray provides layer upon layer of intrigue with the intermeshing of the personal and social lives of the main characters. Her description of the characters and scenic imagery places you in the story. This whodunit will keep you guessing to the end. Highly recommended reading.

Toby Wong, a divorce lawyer in Vancouver, British Columbia, is shocked when she looks up to welcome her newest client only to discover that he is the grown up version of the boy she has dreamed about since summer camp eighteen years before. When she recovers enough to speak, she's shocked senseless again when Josh Barton explains that he would like Toby to represent him in his divorce from Tonya Cabrilatto Barton, the girl who tormented Toby when they first knew each other.

To say that Toby is petite is an understatement—she can still buy some clothing in the girls' section—but Tonya always made Toby FEEL small, not just look it. Now she finds that the man she has idealized for all these years married the woman Toby disliked more than any other. Tonya's treatment of Toby couldn't have been more blatant, so how could Josh have missed it? And knowing how horrid Tonya was, how could he have married her? The fact that he was now divorcing the she-devil didn't make up for the fact that a year earlier he'd married her. Toby should turn him down. She should tell him to find another attorney. She should. But she doesn't. The old attraction and the years of memories have the same pull now that they did when she was a girl.

Just as Toby comes to grips with the idea that she has her dream man as a client, he offhandedly lets it slip that Tonya has gone missing. A minor problem—she has done it often in the past—until Tonya's body is found trapped under the dock at the marina where Josh's boat is moored. Uh-oh! Suddenly, Josh is a person of interest in his wife's murder, Toby joins the case as his criminal defense lawyer, and she finds herself attracted to one of the detectives investigating the case. Life just became much more complicated.

I enjoyed this book very much! Toby is endearing—a little self-deprecating but obviously accomplished, she keeps faling into the past where she met Josh and his wicked wife and where something very bad happened. Ms. Ray leads us skillfully through Toby's memories until we know the awful thing Tonya did to her and how she finally overcomes it. We're also introduced to a great cast of characters including Toby's BFF Quinn, her New Age mother who is unashamed of her belief in Tarot and crystals, and Detective Colin Destin, the second man interested in her. I'm looking forward to meeting them all again in the next Toby Wong mystery.

I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This book reminded me why I love mystery novels. It has everything from rediscovering one’s first love, wondering if he’s a murderer and hoping for a happy ending. Nightmares from camp, mean girls, a wonderful best friend and an eccentric mom spice up this tale of ill-fated lovers and murder.

I love Toby Wong’s character. Although she’s a competent family lawyer, her insecurities made her more relateable. The almost young adult love interests livened up the story as much as trying to guess who murdered the victim. Her new age mom with her psychic clues added a bit of whimsy. Toby’s heartfelt wish that the boy she first kissed at camp was not the philandering murderer everybody wanted her to believe made me nostalgic for the innocence of young love.

This book kept me up the whole night. I put it down halfway through then picked it up again a few minutes later. I’d recommend this to readers who like a good mystery, domestic thriller, and a good old-fashioned romance. But be warned, this is best started on a weekend when you don’t have to wake up early the next day.

Divorce is Murder is the first book in the Toby Wong series, and it introduces us to a female, family-lawyer whose client is a blast from the past. Toby had a major crush on Josh Barton when they were young, but bullies made sure it next happened. Now, nineteen years later, she's back where it all began.

I would class this more as mystery than romantic suspense as Toby isn't sure who she wants, although I'm not very clear on why! There is a police officer who is interested in her, he is not a liar and plays no games, but she seems more interested in a crush from nearly twenty years ago who has constantly lied to her. Hmm, I guess you can see who is my favourite, but I'm guessing this is a storyline for further into the series.

There is a great cast of characters - from a psychic, whimsy-loving mom, to the bullies from Toby's childhood. Some of the mystery was obvious (to me) and some of it, not. I thoroughly enjoyed the build-up and the climax of this story.

With no errors that disrupted my reading, this was an enjoyable read from beginning to end, and I have no hesitation in recommending it to all fans of cosy murder mysteries.

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an open and honest review! I’ve given it 4 out of 5 stars!

The story was easy to follow despite it dipping between flash backs and the present. I did not get confused, it was very clear to tell where we were, which some authors don’t manage to achieve.

Overall, the writing style fitted very well with what I typically like to read! I finished it in only a couple of sittings, I felt an attachment to the characters and was invested in what happened throughout! Felt myself muttering under my breaths and points when I disagreed with what they were doing! (My equivalent at shouting at the tv/film when someone does something I don’t approve of 🙈)

The element of mystery that follows through the whole book was intriguing, although I wasn’t as gripped as some other books have had me, I still felt I needed to know what happened.

I’m not sure I’m entirely happy with who the killer turned out to be and the way the story was finished up in the end! But I can’t always have it my way can I? Hoping there will be a second book soon...

Ultimately, this book was more than a murder mystery with lots of parallels themes throughout. An enjoyable read which I would recommend!

Toby Young is a lawyer specialising in family law. When her teenage crush, Josh asks her to manage his divorce from Tonya, she is taken back to the trauma of summer at Camp Wikiwakee…..

The bullying by Tonya had long lasting effects, which still causes Toby flashbacks. Against her better judgement, she takes the case and then Tonya goes missing!

When Josh is suspected of murder, Toby has to refer the case to another lawyer….and they start to build a case, can they prove his innocence?

With humour, friendship, intrigue, murder and a whodunnit, this is a clever, twisty cosy crime thriller that is thoroughly entertaining….A perfect summer read.

Thank you to Henry at Crime Wave Press and the author, Elka Ray for the opportunity to read this for free. This is my honest and unbiased review.

This was a fun read. Toby Wong is a Chinese-Canadian divorce lawyer who is moved back to Victoria BC to help her mom recover from cancer. But returning to her home town brings problems of its own. Her traumatic summer camp experiences haunt her. When super-rich and hot Josh comes to her for his divorce from his witchy wife, Tonya, Toby's crush on him resurfaces.

When Tonya goes missing, then found dead, Josh is the police's number one suspect. Toby and her lawyer friends investigate into the sordid life of his wife. What follows is a fun and funny mystery.

This was fun. For my more sensitive reader friends, there is some language, but overall, a pretty good read.

Divorce Is Murder, the first installment from the Toby Wong Mystery series by Elka Ray. I found this mystery to be a great read. I did not find it predictable and was left guessing of “who did it” until the end.

This book is great fun!

Having followed Ella Ray on social media for a few years, I wondered if she could write a story as captivating as her own life. She’s come darn close with DIVORCE IS MURDER. Great characters and intriguing plot, all in the glorious setting of Vancouver Island.

Elka Ray wrote an engaging mystery novel whose main strenght is in its vivid characters - vulnerable Toby, her sassy best friend Quinn, her quirky mom, catty archnemesis Chantelle, Colin ... They all felt like very real characters , and Toby's character voice pushes the story ahead, in between recalling the past and facing the present, with a sort of noir-like atmosphere. Josh ... Came through like a bit wishy washy to me, so i was not necessarily rooting for the romance/ potential relationship between him and our heroine, but i was nonethless enthralled with The building of suspense , and curious to see where it would lead. The finale was satisfying, and i loved that certain avenues were left open in It, it felt fitting.

Toby moves back to her hometown to care for her mother. As a lawyer, a blast from the past (former teen crush) hires her to be his divorce lawyer. The problem? His wife is missing and later found murdered. Clearing Josh's name seems to be her focus while she runs into old camp members who once made her life hell. Could they be involved somehow?

After the third chapter, I was invested in the story. It seemed to gain momentum the more the story propelled forward. The author did an amazing job of establishing the motivation of her characters, scenery, character development, and plot movement. Toby was a good character to tell the story through. Her involvement from start to finish reeled me in as a reader. I felt she was the perfect focus of the book and fit into the meat of the story.

The author did a great job of keeping the reader invested because I didn't want to put it down. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading. Event after event, character after character, and surprise after surprise propelled this amazing story forward.

I personally loved the ending of this book is ambiguous. There were several ways the author could have ended Toby's life. I loved the ending. I loved this entire book.

This book was a fun, exciting, intriguing, suspenseful, thought-provoking, and inspiring read!

This is the second book I’ve read from the talented writer, Elka Ray. About two years ago I had the chance to read “What You Don’t Know: Tales of Obsession, Mystery & Murder in Southeast Asia” and I really enjoyed it. So, I was thrilled to get the chance to read her latest work, “Divorce is Murder.”

This book is about Toby, a Chinese-Canadian divorce lawyer moving back home to Vancouver Island to take care of her mom, Ivy, who is recovering from breast cancer. Toby decides to practice law in town at a local firm, but there is no rush of clients coming in. Then OMG!!! in walks her teenage dream crush from camp, Josh Barton!!! He is still ever-so handsome, and now a successful IT developer who married Tonya, the meanest mean girl, and Toby’s total archenemy. However, Josh wants to divorce Tonya and he wants Toby to be his lawyer. Since Toby has no other clients and needs the work, she agrees to take on the case. However, shortly after accepting to be Josh’s lawyer Toby learns that Tonya has gone missing. But not to worry, Tonya is found – dead in the marina that is. And this simple divorce case has now moved into a murder investigation with Toby’s client Josh being the prime suspect!!! So much for this being uncomplicated LOL!!!

So many exciting, intriguing, suspenseful, and thrilling moments in this book!!! I literally couldn't turn the pages fast enough!!!

I really enjoyed reading this book and could not wait to solve the case and find out who the killer was!!

I really enjoyed the main characters, Toby, Josh, Colin, Toby’s BFF, Quinn, and Toby’s Mom, Ivy. They were likable, relatable, and genuine. I really liked Toby!! I felt an instant connection with Toby and was able to easily relate with her for the most part. She was sweet, smart, brave, kind, caring, considerate, determined – the friend you’d turn to and want on your side! However, she was also somewhat insecure, naïve, and gullible.

I completely understand why Toby was fawning over Josh even after all these years. I mean come on – we’ve all had a Josh or two – a guy we had the biggest crush on who probably barely knew our name let alone knew we existed lol! So, for Toby to even have a chance to be with the dream guy and for him to be acting like he’s also into her – yeah, I totally get it. But unfortunately, giving someone that much power really clouds your thinking and so it’s easier to overlook them constantly lying to you and hiding things from you. But if they’re a murder suspect – might not be a good idea to have blinders on lol!

I really liked Colin! He is charming, gentle, protective, handsome, strong, persistent, and romantic. I loved his connection with Toby and their interaction together. I loved how he opened up and confided in with Toby about his mom also having gone through cancer and how difficult it is on both the patient and their families.

Cancer is a hard topic for me as I’ve had to watch my mom suffer from multiple cancer diagnoses, surgeries, chemo and radiation treatments, etc., over the years. My mom is finally in remission, however, it’s only temporary, as it’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when she will get another cancer diagnosis.

Although with that said, I was surprised that the cancer theme wasn’t further carried out as the point of Toby coming home was initially to take care of her mom and I felt that plot point felt lost as it was barely mentioned or even explored.

I also really liked Quinn, Toby’s best friend since Kindergarten. Quinn was supportive, encouraging, loyal, and compassionate. She was also very eight months pregnant, but regardless still had Toby’s back.

Now, Toby’s Mom, Ivy, was somewhat eccentric and a bit odd, but in an endearing sense. She is a fortune teller and is into healing crystals, herbal remedies, etc. She is also recovering from breast cancer.

One of the major themes in this book is bullying. Bullying is such a serious and heinous act. Yet it still happens every day. I really appreciate the author shining a light on such an important topic that often gets swept under the rug. Toby showed us that bullying leaves deep permanent scars that even though they can’t be seen to the naked eye, those torturous memories stay with you forever and can be recalled at any given moment. We see this over the course of the book through flashbacks as Toby recalls intimate, torturous moments when she was bullied at camp by the mean girls led by Tonya.

Unlike the main character Toby, I was never really bullied growing up. But these days bullies are EVERYWHERE!!! I’ve had to deal with bullies in the workplace, as neighbors, and at the gym. I’m sure most of us, can at least relate to having to deal with a bully somewhere in our lifetime – which is why Toby made such a great, well-rounded, easy to connect with character – that I think most of us can relate to at least some part of her.

Toby is a character you want to invest in and root for! As this book is book one in Toby’s upcoming series, I look forward to getting to spend more time with her and watch her character arc develop and grow!

I think the author did a fantastic job on her character development as these characters were so real, raw, and personal on many levels!

I also enjoyed the thought-provoking themes of having means girls of all levels and bullying within bullying. Where does it end?? And how what seems like small things to one person could be big things to someone else. You could be bullying someone and not realize it. We all need to think about our actions, and we all need to speak up as well – and feel safe to do so.

This book has several components of a cozy, but still has enough of the mystery, suspense, and intrigue elements to stand on its own.

There are some predictable scenes. However, there are still many unexpected twists and turns that you won’t see coming!

This book does have a satisfying ending. However, I felt there were some character loose ends that I’m sure were done to keep the reader excited and curious about book two. So, fair warning, when you get to the end and go ahhhhhh wait why didn’t such and such happen?!?! Well, it’s probably leading up over the next book – hopefully! Lol!

This book is book one in the Toby Wong Book Series. It can be read as a standalone. However, this book series has been greenlit and there many upcoming books in this series to be released in the very near future!

All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book and would absolutely recommend it! I think all romantic suspense and mystery readers will like this book too! So, add it to your TBR List and get to reading - you won't be disappointed!

Don’t be put off by the generic title. “Divorce is Murder” is an engaging read that’s equal parts cozy mystery, romance novel, and psychological thriller. It’ll keep you guessing until the very end. The main character, Toby Wong, is a thirtysomething who returns to her bucolic hometown after many years away and ends up facing all of her hidden demons. She’s completely relatable, as are the supporting characters (Toby’s best friend, her mother) who surround and support her. The author’s writing is evocative and at times, laugh out loud funny. For example, “Louise is sitting next to Tonya’s mom, who’s an older version of her daughter: a heavily made-up woman with a bleached blonde perm, an Indian wedding’s worth of gold jewelry, and a trout pout.” I understand the book is the first in a series, and I’m definitely looking forward to future installments!

"The Cozy Mystery of a Lifetime: Unputdownable!"

Divorce is Murder grabs the reader right from the start and delivers a foolproof plotline that every good novel should have!

When Toby, a lawyer, is forced to relocate from Toronto to Victoria to care of her ailing mom; the irresistible and now multimillionaire, Josh, re-enters her life and ignites the hopes of a second chance. However, fate turns against them when Josh's divorce is overtaken by the murder of her wife in which he's the main suspect.

I enjoyed every bit of the novel, and I'm looking forward to the next books in the series. Elka Ray has crafted a refreshingly, entertaining cozy mystery that's hard to put down!

I was gifted a digital copy of this book by the author in return for an honest review.

At the time of this posting I am the third review. My two predecessors have posted comments that seem more plot synopsis than they are reviews and as they do a fine job summarizing the plot, I will not tax you with a third. I will entertain you with my thoughts instead.

After receiving my copy—full disclosure this is my first such review— I was understandably nervous. Wondering what if I didn’t like the writing or the story etc. My plan was to read a couple of chapters before I committed—to see if I was going to be “in to it”.

Before I knew it hours had past— my to do list forgotten and mostly undone. The story kept me up late that night and right back into it the next morning. I finished it by early afternoon.

“Divorce is Murder” is an addictive page turner (finger swiper) that is full of plot twists and turns. A story that is equal parts romance, millennial, murder mystery and psychological thriller—it is short (barely over 200 pages) and reads fast.

Right book, right time. It provided just the type of read that my brain was longing for—a bit of escapism away from more serious heavy non-fiction professional reading that has recently filled my valuable reading time.

Don’t get me wrong I can find entertainment in all types of reading material but for the most part I also expect it to educate and challenge me.

But every once in awhile you need a read that wipes the slate clean, so to speak. I call these books palate cleansers—pure pleasures that leave a good taste in your mouth.

I used to spend many enjoyable reading hours snuggled in with the cosy mysteries of Diane Mott Davidson, Lillian Braun Jackson, and Mary Daheim. Elka Ray fits right in to this mix. This is a genre that has been missing in my reading life of late. I hope indeed that Ms. Ray spends more time with Toby as I definitely would read more.

I do have a couple of remarks:

I imagine writing a short length novel comes with some necessary constraint—such writing does not leave a lot of room for expansive character development or deeper storylines. The author must provide just enough detail to color in the lines of her characters and locations— to provide a sense of personality, give a visual, and to set the scene.

I personally found character development in this book to be a little lacking and at times certain characters are more like cardboard cut outs. The author provides just enough detail to keep the various plot lines afloat but mostly relies on juxtaposing action scenes for forward momentum.

What I am expressing— very poorly I imagine— is that my remark is not meant as a negative it is instead intended to simply mean that I wanted more— not just the bare bones. I loved her characters, the storyline, and always found myself wanting more backstory, more detail, more interaction. I found Toby to be very engaging but struggled with the little we learn of Josh, Ivy and many others. These bare threads left me at times a little confused. I wanted more depth and a better understanding.

For example: One chapter Josh is a multimillion dollar IT guy who in the next chapter is now making a living running a charter boat and the next doing IT consulting at his old company? Ivy’s cancer story is also very vague not to mention that Toby spends very little time with her mom during the story so one would hope she is at the very least in remission.

Nor do I buy all of the plotting devices—especially when it comes to lawyers going on dates with clients. I had more respect for Toby’s character and I am disappointed that her integrity and ethics were sacrificed for plot.

This was fun. It’s got some of the “elements” of a cozy but with a little more substance. Do not get me wrong. I like cozies as much as anyone. I’m just trying to give you an idea of what this book is like. It does have your young female moving back home and there is an ok looking cop. I think he gets better and better looking as Toby spends some time with him. But in this story Toby is a lawyer and trying to get clients again after moving back to town. Who shows up in the first few pages??? Her long ago heart throb except she sort of never got the chance to tell him he was that. Not only does Josh show up in her office but he needs a divorce from the very snob that was as mean as possible to Toby back then. I mean she, Tonya, was a witch.

You can already see I enjoyed this book; it’s storyline and its characters. Elka Ray made her characters fun; some fun, some mean, at least one very pregnant and Toby’s own mother as eccentric as one you’d want to hide from the neighborhood. You know...herbal remedies, tarot cards, vibes, crystal readings, etc. Ray also made you wonder at times who was the good guy or girl and who might be the bad. The story moved fast because it was an easy read and kept me turning the pages.

Elka Ray has a few other books published all of which have good reviews. I do hope this isn’t a stand alone and that we get to read another Toby Wong book.

Toby Wong is a lawyer. One day, she gets a blast from the past—the same boy she had a crush on in summer camp stands in her office as a married man. She finds out that he actually married her arch nemesis and now he wants a divorce. Given that she had no clients, Toby was in no position to turn down representing Josh.

With a divorce case to work on, Toby soon learns from a newspaper that Josh’s wife, Tonya, went missing, and the police suspect foul play. Of course, Josh didn’t know where Tonya was and just wanted the divorce over and done with. But until Tonya can be found, the papers can’t be served. Crap!

Not wanting to face the bully that tormented her all those years, Toby hoped that Tonya would stay missing. But, of course, she shows up—in the waters of the marina, where Josh moors his boat. It was murder. Could Toby’s client be a suspect? What else was he hiding behind that handsome face?

Well-written and easy to read. It was thorough and investigative, skimming into court orders and procedurals.

This was a quick and enjoyable read. Toby is a likeable young woman, however she has a hard time putting the past behind her. Her world is turned upside - emotionally anyway - when a guy she used to like hires her to handle his divorce. Memories of a traumatic incident at summer camp years before surface and are integrated into the story in stages, each time providing a bit more insight into Toby's insecurities. At the same time, in the present, she is faced with the challenge of proving that Josh isn't a killer while tackling her own conflicted feelings. She has an amazing friend in Quinn and her quirky mother provides a whimsical touch. The mystery side of the story was well paced, with tension, twists and turns leading to an unexpected resolution. A promising start to a new series.

"Divorce is Murder," by Elka Ray, is not only the first in the "Vancouver Island Mystery Series/Toby Wong Novels," by is also a truly excellent mystery.

This is another book about which I was contacted; in other words, the people at the publishing house/publicity company saw my YouTube videos, and wanted to contact me about checking out the book, reading and reviewing it because, Toby Wong's mother who reads Tarot Cards.

My copy is 208 pages, including six pages of end pages.

I was impressed with how the Tarot Cards were presented, and with how Toby Wong's mother read said Tarot Cards.

Also, the mystery writing it top-notch. I truly had no idea who the ultimate culprit was until near the end (smile).

I already have a copy of "Killer Coin," the second "Vancouver Island Mystery/Toby Wong Novel," ready to go!!

This book is such a fun experience! The thrill will make you want to keep on reading until the end. I also liked the romance in here, where we get to see two love interests of our MC, Toby. I don't even know who I want her to end up with, you know. Also, as I was reading through the chapters, I can't help but try to solve the mystery myself! If you're interested in that kind of experience while you're reading a book, you can totally check this out!

This is an interesting cozy mystery where the main character is divorce lawyer. Toby Wong is the Chinese getting eaten woman that lives near Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. In her first dabble as an amateur sleuth, she ends up involved with the divorce of the guy who broke her heart who's married to the mean girl who tormented her in high school. That is until his wife is murdered and everybody believes that he killed her.

I really enjoyed reading Divorce is Murder by Elka Ray! It's a Vancouver Island mystery, featuring lawyer Toby Wong, and it's set in my hometown of Victoria, BC. Great characters and storytelling, and the plot is a twister! So cool to read a story that includes local landmarks and the west coast environment.
