Airfoil: Origins

Brandon Tusk is a dedicated librarian and a struggling father who would give anything to hold his wife again. When he fatefully discovers a mysterious medallion endowing him with the power to manipulate gravity, he finds he can suddenly stop bullets, fly, and stop evildoers.

His new powers pull him into a centuries-long battle between the Garrison and the Ashen, two organizations that control the medallions and seek to keep their use hidden from the world at large. As a mysterious stranger trains Brandon relentlessly to be a weapon of the Garrison, Brandon forms his own plans with the medallion, choosing instead to fight crime, to make his city safer, to show his son that good can be achieved.

But there are other forces at work—dark forces unsatisfied with the cold war waged by the medallion holders. Their plans will threaten everything and everyone Brandon cherishes.

Despite everyone's intentions with the medallions, one thing is clear: Drake City needs a superhero.

It needs Airfoil.

Airfoil: Origins is a compelling superhero story with a compelling history and explosive plot. When Brandon Trask finds a medallion that gives him strange powers, he must balance working with a secret group and trying to help his city battle the mobsters threatening to take over - along with being the single dad of a teenager.

The story moves along nicely, and the characters are well-developed. You root for the heroes and are blind-sided by the twists. I'm hoping there will be a second book - SOON.

In the novel Airfoil Origins by author Steve Rzasa, an everyday librarian receives a metal token of unremarkable but used appearance. As the story unfolds, remarkable events happen until the hero realizes the token is responding to his wishes as he reaches out to help his friends and acquaintances in Drake City. When a mysterious stranger appears with unsolicited advice and demands related to the token, our hero Brandon Tusk realizes he has a mentor—but one with his own ideas on how the token will be used; ideas that run opposed to Tusk’s own when it comes to helping the people around him.

There are hints of an implied series. To this reviewer, the story seemed to meander along as it opened to the normal day existence of a widowed dad, three-or-so years after the tragic death of his wife. It’s not until the Reader is two-thirds into the book that the action ramps up into something emotionally more interesting.

Airfoil Origins is a modern day superhero story. It would make an excellent graphic novel. If you add in swelling theatrical music and a big time movie budget, you’d have a decent, new superhero movie.

The publisher, The Crossover Alliance (TheCrossoverAlliance.com) classes the story as a GREEN LABEL book. Even with this slight warning, the story still caught me a tad off guard when I encountered curse words, alcohol usage, and barhopping within its pages. To quote the publisher: “Green Label titles are the mildest of our offerings. Most of the edginess found in these titles is theme-related and may contain some coarse language, sexual references, and/or violence. Most of the content found in these titles may not be appropriate for readers younger than 13.”

This reviewer also found it different from your regular, Christian sci-fi fiction. However, I suppose it’s no worse than your average Tom Clancy based novel.

So be advised, for Christian fiction, it’s a tad risky. But no worse than anything you’d hear on the street or in a classroom of 2019.

This was a great read! I had a hard time putting it down! The action starts quickly and doesn't ever really let up. The characters are easy to identify with. My favorite aspects are the hero's first-person voice - it really pulls the reader into the story - and the creativity behind his (and others') powers. Add in a few twists and unexpected surprises and you have a wonderful story. I would love to read more of Airfoil's adventures.

It's a great book. I thoroughly enjoyed the character who is chosen to be part of a millennia old stuggle between tow groups with secret powers passed on when they receive a secret tag that confers power to be part of this fight behind the scenes. But airfoil doesn't want o allow evil in his city , but strts using his powers to fight criminals, not just the other side in this battle.

Great Story

Steve Rzasa hit it out of the park with Airfoil. As soon as we finished the book we needed to read more. We read together before bed. Tomorrow we begin the next book and can't wait!!
