This was a challenging, though interesting work. Interesting, in that it allows one to view the world through the eyes of a “Spirituaist” during the early 1900’s. Challenging, in that Twining, though clearly intelligent, has unswerving faith is several long discredited scientific theories, from cosmic ether, to “Levulons.” In addition, he doesn’t seem to understand what he believes about God. At some points he hints at a pandeist belief, while at others he openly states that he doesn’t believe in deity.
I did enjoy learning a bit more about how seances worked; from “spirit trumpets” to ectoplasm.
