Ruby Lockwood had no intention of marrying her gentleman caller, Mr. Brown, but her denials fell upon her father's deaf ears. When she turns to her mother for help, her mother gives Ruby an ultimatum--join her sister in Denver and become a Pinkerton Agent or give Mr. Brown a courting chance.
P. Creeden is the sweet romance and mystery pen name for USA Today Bestselling Author Pauline Creeden. Her stories feature down-to-earth characters who often feel like they are undeserving of love for one reason or another and are surprised when love finds them.
P. Creeden married her college sweetheart, who she also met at a horse farm. Together they raise a menagerie of animals and their one son, an avid reader, himself. Animals are the supporting characters of many of her stories, because they occupy her daily life on the farm, too. From dogs, cats, and goldfish to horses, chickens, and geckos—she believes life around pets is so much better, even if they are fictional.
P Creeden’s book is a great addition to the Pinkerton series. Ruby is different from most of the Lady Pinkerton’s in that she has her family’s blessing to become an agent, although her father’s is grudgingly given. He would prefer she would marry a local man. Ruby also has the advantage of knowing of the requirement to marry her training agent since her sister is also an agent. John Mark is unprepared for his reaction to Ruby and reluctantly agrees to be her training agent and husband. Her acting ability catches him off guard and proves to be a definitely asset. This was a fun story to read.
Ruby doesn’t feel herself save in the presence of men. Now her father wants her to marry a business associate but she doesn’t want to marry him. Then she got the choice to let him court her or becoming a Pinkerton agent as her sister Savanna. She knows about the requirement but accepts any way. John Mark isn’t happy he needs to train a new female agent but he accepts. But their case isn’t without danger, specially for Ruby. Can he keep her save so they can have their annulment and go their separate ways. Or are they just what they both need for a happy future together? Fun story, but an epilogue would have made the end even more enjoyable.
When a wedding is pitched by Ruby's father to Mr. Brown, Ruby is repulsed. He's twelve years her senior and a cold man. He admits that he needs to create an atmosphere with her father, the banker and his business. When her sister and husband visit, and after much angst, she is given a choice; marry Brown of go West with her sister. Pinkerton women must marry and Ruby is matched with John Lee. Her voice, that of an angel, is pitched for her first assignment - undercover. Johnny must recover his jewel, Ruby, and then make a personal pitch.
Ruby was so treated like the stereotypical blonde beauty by most people that she had built up many walls of protection around her heart. Agent John Mark Lee had the right equipment to scale those walls easily and quickly. His gentlemanly ways spoke to her heart just as loudly as her beautiful heart spoke to his. Another great Creeden story!
When Ruby's father decided that she should be married and said WHO she would marry, she was not wanting any part of it!!! She followed her sister to Denver and became a Pinkerton agent and wife. The story is enjoyable to read!!!
Ruby and Johnny are characters with a lot of depth and a lot of pre conceived ideas, but they work well together and learn a lot about each other and themselves whilst they tackle this case. My grumble is that this book is littered with typos, I read this on Kindle Unlimited, so cost was not an issue. But it is very frustrating and disappointing.
A great book, that has such great characters. I loved everything about Ruby. This is a sweet romance mixed with shootouts, saloons and outlaws. Such a fun and engaging story! Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
This book is so good. I loved Ruby and Johnny's story. It has action, drama, suspense and romance. This book will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next. I received an ARC copy of this book and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
The yellow rose might be a part of Texas but this Red Rose shines through. Her sister saves her from a arranged marriage. He was finally in line to train a female Pinkerton.
Ruby has always felt people only care about her beauty. Even her sisters don't seem to want her around. When her Father wants her to marry a man she detests, she decides to join her sister, Savannah (#44), as a Pinkerton instead. John Mark (Johnny) is training his younger brother to be a Pinkerton when Ruby arrives. As the only seasoned agent, he's got to marry Ruby and start training her. He doesn't like rich people as they remind him of those who ruined his parents' lives. But he comes to realize that Ruby doesn't want to be seem for her background, wealth, or looks. Saloon girls are going missing. Ruby goes undercover as a singer to hopefully find out what's happened to the missing girls. Can Johnny overcome his prejudice and work with Ruby? Can Ruby prove she's more than her status and looks? A clean, sweet romance.
The beginning was unusual and I'm not sure the reason for the siblings subject yet, but maybe it's a precursor for a future story, and a connection to a previous story. At least I hope so! I truly enjoyed this book, and it was the perfect size for my road trip today! Not a military romance, but I still thought it was an appropriate book to read on Veteran's Day.
