Thrust back in time to 16th century Scotland, Anna finds herself embroiled in a vicious witch hunt and growing attraction for Laird Donal… Anna Clarke has never had any problem defending herself, but her martial arts expertise can’t stop the fae from pulling her from modern times back to a festering state of unrest in the Scottish Highlands around Loch Ness. After being rescued from near-drowning by the handsome and strong Laird Donal Grant, Anna is forced to accept that magic and time-travel are real, as are her attraction and affection for the Scotsman. Laird Donal Grant struggles against a mounting distrust for the old ways. When Anna appears from the future, he’s captivated by her but also refuses to acknowledge her combat skills or accept her as an equal in that regard. With the threat from the witch hunters looming and the fae increasingly concerned about losing their connection to the clan, Donal and Anna must come together to defend a way of life one loves and the other is only beginning to understand. This is a deeply frustrating book. A great story, excellent plot idea, spoiled by VERY BAD editing. At least a THIRD of this book should have been red-penned, and the plot moved along at a better pace, with better development. Given it’s a romance, almost nothing happens until we’re about 80% of the way in. A female soldier who is bored but yet does NO form of exercise? She complains about potential weight gain, but still NO exercise. Not believable. There is far, far, far, too much extraneous inner monologue & not enough development of relationships or characters. Constant repetition of her height, her skills, that it’s the 16th century, etc We know- we get it-stop with the repetitions. It’s supposed to be the 16th century. Quite honestly, it’s better to approach this as a fantasy time travel than an historical one. Any 16th century detail is lacking, or more accurately, is mostly missing. The modern phraseology used by supposedly 16thc characters just jars, painfully. No one would say, ‘it’s a date’ for example. Still.... I read (and skimmed over the irrelevant) to the end. I liked the notion of this modern female soldier going back in time. I just wish this author would find an editor who can do their job; tighten up the writing, development characters, keep the plot-lines on track & moving. I’ll try number 2 in the series. Here’s hoping.
A little more simplistic than I thought it was going to be, but it was entertaining. The fae were fairly nonexistent in the book, other than being responsible for plucking her from the 21st century and sending her back to the 15th. Not a whole lot of depth to the characters and plot, but there was enough that I’ll give the next book a read to see what happens. The series is KU and I’ve got an empty three day weekend ahead of me, so I might as well give book 2 a shot.
This book is entirely written from the main character's point of view, you're pretty much in her head the whole book. As someone who was in both in the US Army, and was a member of the Society of Creative Anachronism (SCA), when I was younger. I have the same unique perspective as the main character. The main issue I have with the main character is, she should of been better equipped to deal with the gender roles, and used it too her advantage. She complained way too much. Also, the characters did not use the Medieval terms for things, they used modern terms, which took away from the storyline. Because she was in the SCA she should of known the hierarchy of the Castle, and the proper way to greet people, which she failed to do. She had an I'm better than though attitude, towards the Laird of the Castle. The Laird also would never have allowed a guest to work and dress like a servant, it goes against the rules of hospitality. There was also a clear difference between classes in Medieval times, they did not mix, unless it was in the course of their duties. Besides what I wrote above, I still enjoyed reading the book, it was a cute story, if you can get past the issues, and are just looking for something to read.
Author needs to brush up on her knowledge of castles and surrounding areas.
I have mixed feelings on this story for sure. The storyline itself was really good, but this story was basically about the heroine, enjoy so much about anyone else. Which was extremely disappointing, because there was a huge missed opportunity to make this story shine. I was really happy when the author chose to make the heroine a strong military woman with some supposed skills. She was supposed to be extremely skilled in martial arts, but there was absolutely no sign of that other than when she bragged about herself. Anna Clarke, the heroine, I found beyond irritating through most of the story. The way she thought about things, I swear gave me whiplash. For a woman dedicated to the military and supposedly had a military mindset, she acted and thought more like an immature teen. She thought that she was smarter and better at fighting as well as using swords and strategic fighting than 10 highlanders put together (author needs to do some serious research in regards to Scotland and the Highlanders.), seriously made me roll my eyes and drop points on my view of the story. Anna's sense of self righteousness and her internal dialogue was a serious turn off as a reader. She was transported in time to the 16th century to the Highlands and she was supposed to be professional military and yet the only that was going through her mind was that she was mad that nobody took her skills seriously; when they had just taken her in and set her up in the castle. Like I said, this could have been a fantastic story, but the authors lack of knowledge regarding the Highlanders for that time period and her lack of developing a likable heroine, as well as not having any depth or developed hero ruined what could have been a fantastic 1st book in for a series.
OMG! I absolutely LOVE this time-travel historical romance! Author Rebecca Jameson uses her usual eloquent descriptive prose to bring her readers into the life of a worthy contemporary woman, Anna. A woman of today, a veteran who is doubting her position and her future because of her misjudgment of a former lover who has determined that if he can not have Anna, no one will. Then just as I began to fall in love with Anna’s character, everything changes! The time, the place, and the cause of strife all change! Yet throughout the change, strife, and trying to find her place in her new digs, Anna does not change. She remains the woman I grew to admire and love in the first few chapters. The biggest change for Anna to accept is that this time Donal, the man Anna first meets when her life drastically changes, is fighting right alongside Anna. The question is now, can Anna find happiness despite the changes she must endure? To find the answer, readers will have to get a copy of RESCUED BY THE HIGHLANDER! It is a phenomenal story that will give readers insight into life in the Scottish Highlands during the 1600s while telling a heartwarming and witty love story that will warm the heart of any romance reader. I voluntarily read an early copy of RESCUED BY THE HIGHLANDER and this is my VOLUNTARY and HONEST review. For those wondering about the paranormal aspects of the story – I will let the story tell that tale, and I’ll only add that it makes everything zing! I STRONGLY suggest that you get your copy of this 5+STAR paranormal, historical romance today! Happy pages! 😉
Anna Clarke is a force to be reckoned with. At 25, she’s an Army veteran of two tours of duty – proficient in combat skills and tactical planning, a martial arts and self defense instructor, and overall: confident, forthright and fearless. Already accustomed to dealing with gender prejudice from some 21st C men, how will she react when confronted with the attitude of 16th C Scotsmen that women need protecting and shouldn’t play at being a warrior? I dare say these Highlanders won’t have a clue what hits them! I found the means by which Anna arrived in the 16th C. to be quite interesting – particularly the tie-in to the tales of Loch Ness. I enjoyed the snarky comments and banter between Anna and Donal as the two stood toe-to-toe on opposite sides of many discussions and arguments. Overall, the story is well written and very entertaining with engaging characters, plenty of humour, action, adventure, fae magic and drama along with the slow burn of a sweet romance. At times though, I found the story to be overly wordy – mostly from repetitive thoughts and musings by Anna as she worked things through and came to accept where she was and how she got there.

Rescued By The Highlander: Highlander Forever Book 1 (Scottish Time Travel Romance) By Rebecca Preston Kindle unlimited purchase First off I want to give a shout out to one of the supporting characters. Miss Nessie was and is one of my favorite Legends out of Scotland. Yes, I'm talking about the Loch Ness Monster. Now about the book, lol. Anna at first was not one of my favorite characters. She didn't realize fast enough for my taste that she was in medieval Scotland. But you put YOURSELF in her shoes. Would you be like yep I traveled back in time and then go on with life? She kept bad-mouthing Donal about his beliefs of what was expected of women. (duh. she was in medieval Scotland women were seen and not heard.). but I love her now how she put Donal in his place. How their love grew. Donal is the new Laird. And it was him and Castle Urquhart to protect the Urquhart Village, even from themselves. Donal learns to trust Anna and her abilities to protect not just herself but those of his Castle and the Village. This book was fast passed (even with Anna having trouble believing she was not where ever everyone said she was). I loved the bad elements that Rebecca Preston used, it was believable. Again I LOVED NESSIE!
This book was long and drawn out. As a former soldier myself, found some discrepancies in Anna's character, one being Sir, yes Sir, you never call an enlisted man Sir. I also, thought that a decorated soldier short female or not would not have been so apt to prove her worthiness as a soldier. She knows her skill and would have let it shine regardless the chauvinistic view of the men around her, not like she didn't have to prove that everyday in the 21st Century, why would 16th Century be any different? I also, felt it took too long to explain why she was chosen by the Sidhe. I almost gave up on this book, didn't get interesting until about Chapter 23, but I stuck it out, call me tenacious. From the wolf encounter until the ending the book was interesting and I liked that Donal and Anna's sexual encounters was not overly detailed, simple and believable encounters. Some character reactions were stressed, such as Maeve's but no details in why she reacted thus. Not sure I will read next book if it reads the same as this.
This is a little different to the usual time travel story. Anna Clarke is an ex-soldier who now teaches classes to woman on how to defend themselves. She is being harassed by an ex-boyfriend who constantly texts her and threatens her physical harm. On the night she is attacked by her boyfriend she is pulled back in time to Loch Ness where she meets the Laird of the castle who actually rescues her from being drowned in the lake.
Donal (who is a typical 16th century man) has trouble believing that a tiny woman could be a warrior but eventually she proves it to him.
They end up having to work together to save the villagers and the castle members from the UnSeelie Fae and witch hunting mercenaries.
There is intrigue, suspence, action and romance – we even get to meet Nessie from the loch.

This has an intriguing storyline, with time travel, magic, witches and Nessie. Anna is a US Army soldier who is under 5', and therefore not always taken seriously. So she has to kick a lot of butt to prove herself. She's gutsy, caring and stubborn. Donal is Laird of the castle that is in charge of protecting a village from the Unseelie Fae. He's impulsive, has a bad temper and is stubborn. After Donal rescues Anna, they clash at every turn. He is condescending towards her, and she points out all his flaws. But for two very stubborn people, a couple of times they gave in way to easily. Parts of the book are repetitive, which takes away from the story as a whole, and there's too much modern speech. It's the storyline that really makes this a book worth reading, it's fascinating. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
Absolutely fabulous. I love Scottish Time travels and strong women. This has both. Anna is a modern warrior with fighting skills and historical knowledge. When she is thrust into the past and rescued by Donal Grant she puts her skills to use. He’s stunned that she’s from the future and surprised that she can fight. This was different because they are fighting against the Fae but they learned to work together. So often in time travels the woman suddenly becomes totally dependent even though in the present she was self sufficient. I liked the characters, the difference in the story line and the fact that she stayed strong even out of time and had skills that were useful. I’m ready for more! (I voluntarily reviewed an ARC).
Rescued by the Highlander Rebecca Preston I couldn’t wait to get to Annie and Donal's story because it was full of magic and competitive spirit. Annie was a career soldier from the future sent back to Medieval Scotland by the Sidth for a purpose originally unknown to her. Upon meeting Laird Donal, tempers aren’t the only thing that fly especially when Anna tries to convince Donal of her special military training. He scoffs at women warriors and she must prove to him gender doesn’t matter. There is a new enemy to defeat and they all must unite to prevent witch hunters from not only taking over the village but attacking the castle as well. I really liked the action in the story and couldn’t wait to turn the page.
Not a bad book, but a bit unbelievable. For one, if she's swept back in time to the 16th century Highlands of Scotland she would not be able to understand the language unless she spoke Gaelic, French, or an anachronistic form of English -- basically one of the languages common to that time and place. That there is no language barrier, and both the male lead, the witch Maggie, and the heroine all understand each other without any explanation of how or why that COULD happen is a bit too much of a stretch for me. The second was with the military persona of the lead, Anna. Some of her reactions and actions didn't line up, but hey at least the female lead wasn't a total doormat.
There were other issues with the believability of the story, but not terrible.
I enjoyed reading this story. It starts with Anna in the present dealing with what her ex boyfriend is doing and then she decides to go to bed and she believes she is dreaming she sees a door and goes through it and ends up under water something pushes her to the surface and it is freezing water but she continues to swim and then she see a light a boat and a man gets her on board and that is how she meets Donal. She does not believe what is happening or that she is really in Scotland in the Sixteen century. I was drawn in to find out what is happening how she deals with it and because so much is going on i did not what to put it down. Love the ending and look forward to reading the next book in this series Stranded by the Highlander.
This book was an amazing awesome read that takes you on a great amazing adventure. The story and characters grabbed me form the beginning and I couldn't stop reading. I loved Donal and Anna they went well together and I enjoyed watching them grow. They had an instant attraction and the sparks flew between them and I loved the banter between them. There's action, drama, suspense, tension, emotions, adventure, strong alpha male and an amazing romance a must read for any fan and I can't wait to read more form this author!!!

I loved this story and I loved the heroine Anna she was such a strong woman and a fighter which shocked Laird Donal who’s in the 16th century where they believe that women aren’t warriors. Anna gets sent back in time by the Fae where Donal saves her from drowning they fall in love but there is conflict between them but Anna shows how much of a Warrior she is when they end up fighting together when Donal’s clan protects a village from the Fae and witch hunters. Fantastic story it’s action packed with time travel and it’s a wonderful historical romance and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.
This was a great idea for a story but was seriously marred by the character of the heroine. I found her extremely irritating. She was so full of herself and so ungrateful for the help she received it took away from the story. She spent way too much time pouting over perceived slights and scheming that it stunted the story line. Why the Laird fell for such a self centered unlikable person or why Maeve was so nice to her is a mystery. There are a lot of time travel Scottish stories out there which are not tainted with blatant feminist claptrap, so save your time and find one.
I liked the title, I love Scotland and highlanders. I could not get into this book! It's sad because I love how Laird Donal is portrayed but Anna is another story.
I don't know what Anna looks like except her height as the military background which grated my nerves a lot! She thought she was above everyone and could find a rational reason for why we “time traveled”
She never went with the flow and always had to prove why she was the best warrior.
I didn't finish the book, I get I was forcing myself to read this story, I don't finish.
I didn't enjoy the book at all.
If you read my review, you may enjoy the story. Try it out, this story was not for me.
I have no complaints. Character development was decent and plot was alright. I kind of expected it to be longer but the percentage on my kindle told me I was flying through it. Easy fast read which gives you some laughs. I'm now reading the second book which is a bit different. Anna was expected but this other girl was not. The main thing you take away is the author wanted no conflict or silly hang ups between the Heroine and love interest. They apparently wrote all of these books in their head a specific way and we're lucky enough to get them all published.
Anna's inner dialog was ridiculous. The author over explaining thought processes and justifications that were unnecessary and boring. I skipped about 1/3 of the book and still understood everything. This is clearly self-published, as no editor would have allowed this. Will not bother with the rest of this series.
* One plot point that annoyed me was that she never mentioned missing her loving family, or what they were told about her disappearance as she was supposedly pulled before her demise in her own time.
I thoroughly enjoyed this time travel romance. I found it easy to get pulled into the entertaining story and a complex blend of drama, emotions, tension, excitement and romance. I thought that Anna and Donal were both wonderful, complex characters. The attraction between these two was evident and I loved the sparks that flew between them and the witty banter that they shared. A delightful read and a excellent start to this new series.
Rescued By The Highlander is the first book in the Highlander Forever series and I want to read the next book. Anna Clarke a martial arts expert gets thrust back in time to sixteenth century Scotland where she almost drowns and is rescued by Laird Donal Grant. This story has suspense, drama, danger, two very evil men, magic, Nessie, Sidhe, mercenary forces, and romance. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Anna goes back in time ending up in a lake being pushed to the top by none other than Nessie the Loch Ness Monster?! Donal is the Laird of the castle and is waiting on Anna when she arrives because Maggie told him she would be arriving. They fight witch hunters and fall in love. Will she stay? Does she want to stay? Fun read

The method of time travel was very different from other books. I would love to read a prequel to understand why fairies are involved with human challenges over such a long period of time. Donal and Anna were quite realistic characters. I kept rooting for them to figure out a way to have a relationship. Malcolm and bcBrendan were also highly likable characters and I hope I will be able to read their stories as well.
Anna fighting with her ex boyfriend then going to bed was whisked to the past. Staying in a castle falling for the Laird. No one would hear that she was in the armed forces and knew how to fight. Having to fight monsters and witch hunters. Finding that the Laird liked her too. Rebecca Preston does a wonderful job writing this book. I couldn’t put it down.
If your looking for a great romance novel. This book is not it!😓
The worst part is the long 1st person reflections( fillers and flashbacks) that drag tediously on before each of the dialogue between characters...🥱
About 98% of this book is a 1st person bio narrative with an action packed-time travel adventure story line. If that’s what you like...then this is the perfect book for you!😅
I love time travel tales and most especially those to Scottish Warriors with strong women who can hold their own! This is no exception to that precept and as a tale, it flows well with natural people with flaws that make for good reading! Anna Clarke is sent back to Donal Grant who does not realise he needs her and her warrior skills. A good tale with sidhe, monsters and varying characters that make the tale all the more interesting
ARC review For honest review. Anna Clark ex military self defense instructor is getting stalked by her ex and after a altercation on night she falls asleep to awaken in the waters of the loch Ness in Scottsdale in the 16th century by the faeries to laird donal Grant and Maggie a healer . Where she is taken to the castle urguhart. Awesome story
I liked this story about Donal and Anna. There were parts that seemed to drag on and I had a hard time staying focused. Like there was so much details. At about 70% thru the book is where the story started really coming together and I couldn’t put the book down. I would read more by this author.
