Kieran has stepped up to take his place as the ruler of magical San Francisco. As his girlfriend, that unfortunately means I'm under the magnifying glass. Everything I do is noticed, from how I act to how I style my hair. Most notably, of course, is how little I know about my magic.
The Hades Demigods want me on their team, and they don’t plan to ask nicely. Kieran and I are both under fire. They will kill him to get to me, and they'll take me by force if necessary. It is essential I learn more of my magic.
With no other options, I do what scares me the most - I summon the last Spirit Walker to help train me. Except, he's a loose cannon with looser morals and learning spirit is treacherous. I might evade the Demigods only to be lost in spirit forever.

2024 Reread Man. I STILL cried EVEN though I knew what was coming 😭. I looooved the scenes with the cat 🤣 and all the other scenes of levity, because some scenes were TOUGH to go through 😭
Original Review What I didn’t expect was to need tissues while reading this book!
This book continues from where book 3 left off, Kieran and Alexis beating his father. Now Kieran is the new person in charge of the area and Alexis finds herself in the limelight way more than she is comfortable with. She is in the tabloids- people are judging her style, her clothes, even the way she acts. Being the girlfriend of a demigod is a huge deal, and she is feeling the pressure. On the side, Magnus, her biological father, has discovered that she exists and is planning to do something with her, he just doesn’t know what. In the previous is books, we found out that he murders his children, fearing that they will want to overpower him.
Here Lexi and Bria (mostly Lexi though lol) summon the Spirit Walker that existed before her because she needs to hone her skills better, understand her powers more, and become the force to be reckon with that she needs/deserves to be (I love when she shows her power in the meeting with demigod Nancy and her employees LOL). She questions whether or not she is bringing anything to the table in her relationship with Kieran, and he shows her how much she really does do for their relationship, for her wards, for the people around her. The Spirit Walker gets her to do things she has not been comfortable with doing and allows her to figure out how much more powerful she really is. In the meantime, Daisy and Mordecai are training like crazy, with Daisy taking the lead, especially because she is the nonmagical around.
There are enemies that want to challenge not only Kieran, but also Lexi. I love when we see Kieran and Lexi together, strengthening their bond, their intimacy, their soul connection, and their combined powers. Someone in the book dies, and it was so unexpected, so out of left field, that I was in bed, unable to breathe with how emotional I got. I almost felt like it wasn’t happening and it was maybe a dream, but then reality hit 😩. In war, people die, many are tested, and we always end up with survivors. This is exactly what happens in this book. Everything isn’t butterflies and rainbows, and this sets it up for the next books to continue the battle that was started in this one.
I needed more sexy times with Kieran and Lexi- that would’ve made this a solid five stars. Overall, I enjoyed it.
⚠️safety squad⚠️ -no cheating/sharing/omd/real owd* -death of a side character/almost death of another -violence/torture/kidnapping -there’s a scene where the H kind of flirts with ow who wants the H, but he’s only doing it for *reasons* and the h knows -cliffy
Sometimes you just don't know whether you want to hug an author or punch them!
I've just re-read this, in preparation for reading books #5 and 6. I have to say that everything I wrote in my last review is totally true still. The only thing I could really remember was the "consequences" of Jack's actions during the big fight scene. And it still gutted me even though I was totally prepared for the heartbreak. An amazing book and an even more amazing series.
Original Review - Not only does K.F. Breene crow bar a humongous amount of plot, funnies, smexy time, action and adventure into this book, she also throws a huge side serving of heart break into it too. It's one of those books that you shouldn't start reading just before bedtime, because there is NO WAY you will be able to put it down after only reading a few chapters. No sir-ee, once started this book will sink it's claws into you so deeply that you won't want to put it back down until you have read and savoured every single word.
Kieran, Alexis, Daisy, Mordecai and all the other amazing characters that inhabit this world, both real and spirit based are all absolutely amazing. There are so many different people and each one has their own distinct and unique voice in the book. Some are likeable, others immensely loveable, whilst a handful are vile and despicable beings but they all have depth and personality by the bucket full.
I never know where the story will take me, I never even begin to suspect what surprised are in store and what curve balls will be thrown in my direction. I do know that I will love every moment of it, even when I hate what is happening, even when my emotions are being stomped on, because the writing is so fantastic and the story so amazing that I can't help myself.
I can't wait for Sin & Lightning, I've already got it on pre-order.
I'm yet again feeling pretty lukewarm about another book in this series. It was in no way a bad book but it didn't blow me or the story out of the water either. There were some very interesting and heartbreaking parts but those scenes didn't continue on in the rest of the novel.
Lexi was an okay character. I like how her powers are evolving and how they're shaping the story but I dislike how easy it comes to her. There are moments where we see her struggle but that's only the first time she's learning something. After that, she's a pro.
Kieran is proving to be a much more fascinating character than Lexi. He trusts her with his life now. He wants them fighting side by side as equals and I love it! He's supportive and patient with her and she with him. Their relationship is great if you don't consider the people who want Kieran dead on a typical day.
Daisy and Mordecai stole the show if I'm being honest! They are such fierce fighters with sassy remarks. They were the entertainment for this novel. The kids and the Six's were great, though I can't tell the Six's apart. I'm crossing my fingers for a spin-off series with one of these two as the main character.
The ending was expected to a certain degree. I didn't think Kieran would go nuclear because I'm guessing he wants to be alive and have a life with Lexi and the kids in the years to come. I'm guessing things are going to snowball in the next book and end with a bang on the sixth book. I'll probably pick up the next book because I'm curious enough to want to know what happens next.
The Audio Book:
The narration was great! Most of the characters were discernable from each other and there were no background noises present in the recording.
I originally wanted to give this book four stars, but now that I am thinking more about it, it will get a 3,5 from me. Here are my reasons why:
At the beginning of the story we get shown, that Alexis has trauma from the events that happened in book 3 as she wakes up from a horrible nightmare. However this trauma just disappears over the course of the book and is later never really mentioned. I also felt like the ending dragged a bit in this one and some parts felt slow paced. However I still loved the characters and the chemistry between Alexis and Kieran was still there for most parts of the books. The banter also faded a bit in the background but I am assuming that is due to the events in the books getting more serious, so I´ll let that slide. The newly introduced character Hastings is quite funny sometimes and adds to the story and to Alexis journey as she begins to learn more about her powers.
This is again a three POV book, of which two POVS frequent. Overall the book was good, but it´s definitely not the best in the series so far. I´m still going to read the next book hoping it will be better again.
This book is so good it completely captured me but it is the same with every book I read by KF. She is the consummate storyteller that knows no bounds when she has a story to share. She is a true magician when she weaves her threads to pull them together to write her masterpieces. I jumped on this amazing train ride and I have enjoyed every single heart pounding minute along the way. It is an intense story of magic and Demigods and magical creatures of all kinds. It is full of action and danger, drama and suspense and it is full of fun that has me laughing out loud, even in some of the most explosive situations. The story is told from multiple points of view, so we get a great perspective of their motivations, and thought processes. KF certainly moved the goal line with this book and it was definitely much more emotive than the others and had me crying like a babe. Her clever plotting and intricate multi layering of not only the vivid world she has created but also of the wonderful characters she brings to life. They must be read in order as each one carries on from the last.
It is a definite MUST READ, and a MUST on everybody’s TBR list!
I enjoyed this one a lot probably because it was more action packed as Kieran and his dad finally go to war Alexis and Kieran are officially together and we see her power in action Daisy and Mordecai progress and are able to hold their own I liked the guys and would've liked to see them get their own book Bria remains my favorite character in this series Moving on to the next
I really enjoy this series, and while this book was sort of a transition into Act 2 - the fight with his father is over, and the fight with her father is beginning - it was a solid read for a transition book, and I'm excited about the story.
So glad we're getting the next one in just a few months!
Re-read May 2021 I feel like I undervalued this one the first time around. Yes, it's a transition book, but a LOT goes on. And the stage it sets for Alexis and Kieran's struggle now that Alexis secret is out ... it is a very compelling one.
In the fourth book in K.F. Breene's Demigods of San Francisco series we see Lexi and Kieran facing their most dangerous enemies yet. Killing Valens was only the start of their problems and now that Kieran has taken his place as the ruler of San Francisco he's fully caught the attention of the other Demigods around the world. Not only are they watching to see what kind of ruler Kieran will be but they've also heard rumours about Lexi's Spirit Walker abilities. If any of them is able to capture Lexi and train her they'll have a formidable weapon in their hands, but Lexi and Kieran have other ideas and if she can find someone else to be her guide then they'll be a power couple the other Demigods will have to watch out for.
If you thought the battle in the previous book was intense you haven't seen anything yet. Before they were facing off against one Demigod and it nearly cost them everything, now they have multiple enemies who are all plotting against them and they have no idea where the next attack will come from or which of the other Demigods might be working together against them. This is only the start of their battle to prove themselves and it could all end in disaster at the first hurdle.
I've loved this series since the beginning but each book has only got better along the way. Lexi and Kieran make a great couple but I think one of the things I love the most is the family they've built together with Lexi's wards Daisy and Mordecai as well as the members of Kieran's Six, the men who have been at his side for years and who are more like brothers than bodyguards. Daisy is the only human in the bunch but she has been continuing her training and is able to hold her own against the others by using her brain as well as her physical strength and that is something she's going to need to hold on to more than ever in this book. The danger is off the charts and there were some heart stopping moments but we also get to see Lexi learn even more about her abilities and watch the group really come together to fight against their enemies. The battle is only just beginning and I can't wait to see where the series takes us next.
I am a bit upset with Ms. Breene right now! As with all of the previous books, this is now my new favorite, but I cannot tell you how embarrassing it was to read this one in public! I yelled, I screamed, I cried, I laughed and onlookers believed I was completely insane! It is all her fault!!! She broke me!
There is so much going on in this latest edition right from the start! It is a bit darker than the previous books, and a bit more sexy and sad.
There is so much more danger now that Alexis is out in the open. She is learning so much more about her craft but it is not enough. Bria has taught her all that she can. Keiran has had to step into his father’s shoes and that means new enemies, none of whom have come out in the open. He is fearful of Alexis not being able to protect herself so he tries to find her a teacher. Bria has another, more perilous idea of who it should be. Alexis tries things out his way and discovers it will be a waste of time. She then tries things Bria’s way and the chaos begins! Now she has a new teacher and I just cannot decide if I like him or not but I know for sure he should not be trusted.
What happens next will keep you on the edge of your seat, throw you off of it and then make you break it into a million angry pieces!
There is still an unanswered question I have so this better not be the end of these characters!
Ah K F Breene this series is taking over my life ! Just so so good, the laughs, the romance, the sexy times, the characters themselves and this one had me crying ! This series is an awesome read and I am counting the days to the next one! The biggest laugh out loud for me was “the animal kingdom” scene you will know when ya read it!!!
This is the start of a new story arc and I love how well-thought-out it is! The momentum is rising again and we have brought on new really cool characters! I’m pumped for the next book.
As expected, KF Breene didn't fail to deliver a fantastic tale that kept me turning pages until I ran out of them. I don't think I meed to elaborate much, especially if you're already a fan of her books. You already know to expect the unexpected and that you'll always enjoy the ride.
Ehh. I think I’m tapping out of this series. Lexi’s original charm has worn off a bit for me. She and her wards really carried the prior installments and now that our mc is falling flat, I just can’t do it!
Probably the best of this series so far. Lots of action, suspense, a strong touch of sadness and heart-break, then leaving the reader with just enough mystery to want to keep reading.
There was so much I didn't know. I'd need to really hit the books if I was going to help him. Because I was tired of being dead weight. Starting tomorrow, I would pull up my britches and get to work. Right after breakfast. Or maybe brunch. The little bleep of a soul meandered closer, and I looked that way to see what might slip out of the trees and brush. Kieran's body tightened. "What is it?" "Just a…" I squinted in the darkness before layering the world with spirit so I could see better. "Behold, it is a pale horse, and he who sits on it has the name Death, and Hades is following with him." "What?" Kieran grabbed my arm. The little creature's tail flicked as it slinked closer. It let out a loud meow. "It's a cat," I said, laughing.
I really love this series, but this wasn't my favorite book. It was good, I like where things are heading, and I'm excited about the next one. I like that Alexis is learning new aspects of her magic, but this one was a bit slow, felt a little off, just seemed like it was missing…something? The mood was a bit more somber than others.
"As for you not helping me lead…" He chuckled softly. "You might not see the bigger picture yet, but you're doing more than helping me lead. You're shaping my image. You're giving me goodwill with the people." I startled, no clue what he was talking about. "If you remember," he said. "I never said you needed to work at the government office. You don't have to work at all-most Demigods' wives or husbands don't. Girlfriends either, before you bring that up. As long as you're happy, it makes no difference to me. But you picked your own office in the bowels of the building and built various charities with moderate budgets that are making me look like a ruler for the people while still being fiscally responsible. You're kicking ass in a meaningful way and you don't even realize it." His footsteps whispered across the rug. His arms came around my middle and he pulled me tightly against his chest. "Right after everything went down with my father, do you remember what I told you?" Unable to help myself, I snuggled into him, my mind still whirling. My resolve eroding. I was supposed to be doing the right thing and setting him free. Cutting the anchor. The whole situation was going tits up. "I told you I'd sort things out, and then we'd move on. That we'd go shopping in France, visit my castle in Ireland-I gave you the idea that we'd be free. And then I took a leadership job and chained you here. That's why I've left you largely to your own devices. I let you get your feet wet, then go running. Literally. I framed that tabloid picture of you with the red shoes, by the way. It's on my desk. I was in stitches." I pushed to get out of his arms, but he held me put. "The way you're feeling now is my fault." He nuzzled into my neck. "All of it. You have an incredibly rare and potent magic. Everyone is curious about you. They're all dying to see you in action. Dine at your table. Lock you up on their staffs. I wanted you to blast the first Demigod to come through here. I wanted you to make a statement, then I wanted you to waltz out, as you do, seemingly without a care in the world. So what are you bringing to this relationship? Resources for the people and a terrifying magic that makes me look damn cool. They're calling me an upstart, a child, but they aren't doing it to my face. Why?" "Because Demigods lack a sense of humor?" "Because you've got my back, and no one wants to mess with you. I'm not just an upstart Demigod-I'm an upstart with an ace in the hole. I have a woman that cannot be bought, cannot be dazzled with charm or lured away with extravagant gifts. A woman I can trust with my empire and my heart. I'm not starting at the bottom. Not with you beside me. Nancy placed you higher on the status scale than a level five. Than her whole prized staff of level fives, actually. She was trying to fight for her placement over me, but it took very little convincing to make her step down." He paused for a moment. "Notice I didn't say kneel down? My fly was closed, that's why."

"But there are a few things people can use to summon and bind him, aren't there?" I replied. The spirit was analyzing Kieran the same way he was being analyzed. A smile slowly spread across his face. "You are older than your years, junior. Well? Answer the lady." "Demigod Zander has his possessions, and Zander is of Zeus's line. He doesn't want anyone to be able to access his spirit. Bria could give the Hermes Demigod's guy a run for his money in thievery." "Cheat to win," Bria murmured, now monitoring the incense. "But now an item is free. If anyone find out, there will be a race to acquire it," Kieran finished. "A new, untested Demigod and an untrained Spirit Walker-I normally wouldn't play those odds," the spirit said. "Yeah, you would," Kieran replied. He didn't need to smirk with all that confidence and ego he was whipping around-it was implied. "It would make you a rich man." I would still need to keep the watch away from the magical klepto. Even if he didn't immediately take it to his boss, he could still prevent me from getting training. Given I didn't trust the side he was on, I had every reason to suspect he would attempt to nab it. I blew out a breath. I also needed to learn the politics and manipulation side of things if I ever wanted to sit at the adult table. Baby steps. Magic first. Politics later. "Now." The spirit stepped back and looked up at the house. "We need to apply the same sort of magic to this house, just in reverse. Instead of tying a spirit in, we want to push them away. Luckily, the house is tiny. It's good practice for a beginner. That's the thing about Poseidon. He and all his heirs are cheap, cheap. Cheap and lazy." He turned to me. "He didn't build his own palace; he made the ocean gobble up someone else's hard work. That's what happened to Atlantis. Mr. Cheapy-Cheap thought he'd save a penny or two and just sink something rather than build it himself. It's not like anyone would want it back once it had been dunked. Everything would have been ruined. Kelp in stuff, crustaceans-tragic. And here we are, only a quarter Demigod and still as cheap as they come." I opened my mouth to defend Kieran then closed it. I really didn't need to get involved. Especially since someone razzing Kieran for being cheap, which obviously wasn't true, was pretty funny.
~
"If I'm going to own this horrible Soul Stealer mantle," I said, "I should be Death upon the pale horse, not the cat lady in her jammies." "Whoever owned that office in the government building before you was probably more terrifying than any lunatic riding a horse," Bria said, fighting the magic. "Don't underestimate crazy cat ladies in their jammies." We neared the spread-out crowd of enemy, those whose souls I hadn't ripped out. They were down the block. Many of them struggled to rise on broken limbs, injured by that burst of air from Kieran. "Never own the mantle of Death," the cat said from beside me. "You were not designed to be Death. Nor does your magic have just one purpose. You are the yin and the yang of the living world-you can save a life as easily as you can destroy it. Your Demigod is not Death, either, though he kills just as readily as you. Besides, you are not killing these people; you are simply setting their spirits free." "Tom-ay-to, tom-ah-to," I said, raising my hands to make it easier to envision grabbing all their soul ribbons. "Though, if your Demigod was Death, he'd probably use a giant goldfish for a trusty steed. He's too cheap to buy something as cool as a pale horse," the cat murmured.

"Did you take out the hidden passageways?" I asked, leaning against him. "Of course not. Zorn is wondering how long it will take Daisy to find them, map them all out, and get grounded for whatever she gets up to in them." He pulled me toward the wall at the corner of the sitting room, where I'd seen the ghost of the old butler on my last visit to this house. Kieran knelt beside the fireplace, stuck his finger in a groove, and popped open a little hatch to the side. The entryway was small, but even Kieran could get in if he stooped. Light from the now-open doorway illuminated a slow moving, furry white creature. On top of a furry black creature. "Oh my God, what the hell? Harding, are you in there?" I gasped. The cat kept at it. "Yup." "That's… Dude, that's not right." "It's not me trying to procreate with this other cat. I'm just along for the ride. I think he's a virgin, though, because he doesn't seem to be figuring this out. Hole confusion, maybe." My mouth dropped open. "Why are you in there? Why is it in there?" "Apparently this other cat is in heat, and someone must've missed it slipping in here when they were working on these tunnels. Your Demigod thinks of everything, Lexi, except chummy cats sneaking into his home. So my stallion of a cat meets this cat, and ba-da-Bing. Here we are." I averted my eyes. "But why didn't you leave the cat body? There's no repellent up yet. You don't need it." "I'm not gonna lie: I wanted to see how all this played out. When in Rome…" "You're not in Rome. You're in a cat!" "Right, well…when in cat." "Ugh!" Valen's old butler stopped amid strolling through, peering into the passageway with disgust. "What is…" He gave Kieran a condescending look. "I wondered how you would change things, but allowing this?" His nose curled. "Times have certainly changed. It's true what they say-youth ruins everything. What are you doing to my house?" He shook his head and resumed his slow walk out of the room. I slammed the door shut and stared stared at a blank-faced Kieran. There were no words. We moved away as a howl from the hidden passages made me grimace. "That is so gross," I said, shivering. "It's nature." "Not when a human spirit is in on it. That guy is absolutely cracked!"
I loved this book, the entire series so far, and K.F. Breene’s writing! It’s always so fun and keeps me on the edge of my seat! There isn’t a whole lot I can say about the plot without giving spoilers because the story picks up pretty much immediately where Sin & Salvation left off but I’m truly so happy we get more of Alexis and Kieran’s story, along with the entire team!
Plot: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Quantity of spice: 🌶️ Quality of spice: 🌶️🌶️ *There are two spicy scenes in Sin & Spirit.*
The team has no rest after the end of Sin & Salvation now that Alexis’ power is out in the open. The other demigods are vying for her power and it’s put Kieran’s territory & everyone they love under attack.
Sin & Spirit had K.F. Breene’s usual humor, but there was a lot of heaviness in this one too. There were times I was yelling “NOOOOO” to an empty room 😫 but I am still loving every second of this world.
I listened to the Graphic Audio version and while it’s amazing, there is SO MUCH dialogue missing from the written version, the first spicy scene is sooo watered down, and the second was entirely cut out. I don’t understand why they cut so much, it’s really annoying because it feels like missing a part of the story. So if you intend to read it this way, just keep that in mind.
Where do we even start?? This is the 4th book in this exceptionally good universe that K.F. Breene has created.
Now I haven't actually read any of her other work - but that will be next whilst we wait for the 5th instalment Sin & Lightning which is not that far off. And boy can it not come soon enough!!
Sin & Spirit pretty much starts off where we left off and I am very happy that whilst the first couple of books were a little bit slow burn, this book is pulling out all the fireworks!
We have WAR again! Amazing scenes of war and Lexi learning on the go (as she does) - the heat is up - Magnus is plotting but there is also yet another Demigod of Hades plotting...
This book pulled at all the strings. I was crying, laughing...sobbing... the love is there - sooo much of it - but what is a war without sacrifice and casualty?..
This book doesn't disappoint, I could not put it down at all!!
Alexis is learning more and more about her magic..with a little help from the other side... And her love for Kieran is so beautiful, they are really growing.
I can't wait for the new book to see where all this is going - because just like the other books we are left with a slight cliffhanger!
Overall impression: Kieran is dead to me. He was extremely grimy in the way he seduced another woman to try gleam information about her employer. Not only did he not discuss it with his girlfriend first but he then said she'd be the reason he'd stay in line. Like no?? It's not that hard not to cheat?? The other characters were just as bad - making comments about how Alexis looked and acting like everything she'd already done wasn't enough. Like fuck off and give her a break. Speaking of which, I will literally hate read the rest of the series if I don't take a break now and try forget about the crap Kieran did in this book. So goodbye for now 👋.
Tropes: ➵ Spirit walker FMC ➵ Daddy issues ➵ Demigod MMC ➵ Slow-burn romance ➵ Opposites attract ➵ Rich MMC x Poor FMC ➵ He falls hard ➵ Bonding for life ➵ Marking & claiming ➵ Sharing of powers ➵ MMC flirts with OW ➵ Found family ➵ Touch my kids and die ➵ Fantasy war ➵ Not everyone survives ➵ Happy-for-now (HFN)
⤷ Plot: It felt like a lot happened but at the same time nothing really progressed in the main story arc. It was more about Alexis gaining some control over her new powers and using them to keep her family safe. The villain was introduced in the background but only sent people who worked for him to try threaten Alexis.
⤷ Characters: I really hated Kieran in this book. He seemed so ungrateful given Alexis saved his mother's soul, saved his life and helped defeat Valens. At the start, everyone is making fun of her for not 'looking' the part as the Demigod's girlfriend. But come on, she's literally one of the most powerful people around - they need to piss off. To top it off, Kieran uses his seduction magic to flirt with another woman to try get her to spill her employer's secrets...He didn't discuss this with Alexis first and then made comments about how she would keep him in check if he ever nearly made a mistake etc. Like no??? You should have self-control and not be a cheating prick. Anyway, I tried to block that out of my memory since I have special editions of this series and wanted to finish them. But yeah, he was dead to me in this book.
Another new character was added - Alexis' new tutor, an infamous dead spirit walker. He was able to teach her a lot about her magic, and she developed some new interesting powers as a result. I liked how strong his character was too - providing some comic relief during stressful moments. Bria and him have quickly become two of my favourite characters.
⤷ World-building: Nothing new.
⤷ Writing: Easy to binge.

This series is so damn good. She broke my heart a little with this installment, but I have faith it will all be okay. As always, looking forward to the next one.
I laughed and cried and grinned like an idiot and laughed and cried some more. This book is an action packed romance with all the feels. I love this series and these characters so much!! I can't wait for the next book!
This series needs to be read in order to fully appreciate the storyline, character growth and relationship development that occurs across the series so far. Sin & Spirit has Alexis facing challenges with regards to her magic, and she has moments of self doubt regarding her capabilities and her place by Kieran's side.
I've really enjoyed reading this series so far. I love Alexis and Kieran, and all the secondary characters ( Kieran's 6, Bria ), but once again my favourite character is Daisy, with Mordecai following closely behind. Daisy has so much snark, she's tough and determined. Plus she's like a crazy little ninja that loves to use her training to spring surprise attacks on the unsuspecting ( poor Mordecai ).
I'm looking forward to Sin & Lightning, especially after some of the events that occurred towards the end of Sin & Spirit - can't wait to see where the storyline goes from here.
I felt a bit like the story was finished with the last book but this new arc was shoe horned in there to continue the story. Of course, I love reading more of a good series but this one wasn’t my favorite even though it was still quite good.
Now that Valens has been killed, Kieran and Alexis have to learn to navigate in this new role as the head of San Francisco. Plus, even though Lexi was able to harness her control of her magic to beat Valens, she’s still woefully ignorant on how it works.
Enter in a couple of new characters who I was just so-so about and a new villain to beat. The story line was okay and had the usual pace of a novel by Breene. I was not too happy with a choice that made this novel quite a bit sadder than needed.
Of course, I’ll continue the series. It was still a good book but not my favorite of this series. Four stars.
Yay! I feel like I have been waiting for this book forever and I'm so glad to have finally gotten it. I forgot how much I love this series, especially the humor. I love Alexis and her logic, it makes her so relatable, and I always love Kieran. I do wish we had more couple time with them though, especially because some parts did drag a bit and the couple time always makes up for it.
This book was also a bit more sad than any of the previous ones, and a little heartache and a bittersweet feeling, but I'm hoping the next books make up for it. Overall, I cannot wait for more in the series.
I'm worried about Lexi -- the beginning of the book she felt so different! I wasn't totally into it... Things picked up, she got her sh*t together and BAM the book became everything I wanted it to be. Well.... not everything, because I was so SAD and MAD about some things. This story got intense!!
I'm looking forward to how the series will progress.
