"The sores forming with unholy speed on Harley’s arms and legs confirmed the infection was spreading. Its poison surged through her veins with such momentum that she could feel its sting in the current of her pulse. Unrelenting pain seared every cell, and she struggled to maintain focus, despite the fever raging in her blood." - Viral Storm

"I didn't see that twist coming. What happened in the first chapter surprised me. It just kept twisting from there." - Sarah L., Beta Reader

Viral Storm continues the story of Casey Williams and her friends attempting to flee the country and expose the evil work of BioGenetics, creators of the virus that spawned the zombie apocalypse. Euthanizing her best friend, who'd been infected with the virus, was the most soul-crushing thing Casey could have imagined, but that was nothing compared to what happens next… Like the first book in Skyler Rankin's series, Viral Dawn, Viral Storm has gore, violence, and dark themes common in zombie apocalyptic fiction, but the book focuses more on the characters' lives than other elements. The story centers on strong, young adult female characters as do similar books in female-centered dystopian fiction like The Hunger Games, Twilight, Divergent, and The Year of the Flood. Join Casey as her struggle for survival continues in Viral Storm.

The graveyard overlooking Jade Lazlow's hometown is visible from everywhere, like an ever-present reminder of mysterious forces beyond the veil. The town had been a station on the Underground Railroad, so it’s steeped in history and legend. It’s also not far downriver from Mothman country.

It was against that backdrop that Jade discovered her love of writing and all things creepy. She garnered inspiration from local legends told in hushed whispers, creepy comic books, and thrillers and mysteries from the town’s library.

**Contains Spoilers if you haven't read Viral Dawn**

Viral Storm is the 2nd book in a trilogy penned by Skyler Rankin. While the book does pick up with the story of Casey, Kyle, Jordan and Verna where they were at the end of Viral Dawn, Viral Storm is equally the story of Harley and what happens to her after she was bit back at the high school during the evacuation that occurs in Viral Dawn. Readers learn more about the biological weapon that was released at the beginning of Viral Dawn. There are heinous villains, intrigue, betrayal, discovery, and so much more in Viral Storm. There is one spot in the book that crosses my line for violence in books, however, which reduced my review from 5 stars to 4.

Skyler did a great job with spinning an intricate web of a story, with many interconnected strands to keep track of. She engages her readers from the get-go, especially if they have previously read Viral Dawn. I was wondering why the booked kicked off with Harley rather than the four we leave at the end of Viral Dawn. Beginning Viral Storm that way, however, sucked me in. If you are a fan of Viral Dawn, and/or suspenseful Zombie Horror genre, you will enjoy Viral Storm very much.

This zombie/post-apocalyptic story is slightly different, it’s told from a young adult/teenager point of view and yet that doesn’t make it any less gory or terrifying. It’s a well written story told from different points of view and is an excellent way to spend an hour or two.

The much anticipated sequel to Viral Dawn is here! And it was sooo worth the wait! This is such an amazing series. I could see it being a tv series or movies, they are so well written. The characters are so well written that you get so invested in them and their stories.
I could not put this book down. I read it straight through in one sitting, it sucks you in and you have to know what's going to happen next. Casey is such a strong character. She's been put through the ringer but still manages to rise up and keep pushing through. I love that in this one you also get other characters POV.
I would recommend this series to anyone who loves a good zombie book. Its labeled as YA but honestly adults would love it too. Book 3 can not come soon enough!

I stumbled upon the first book in The Viral Series by Skyler Rankin a couple of months ago. Initially I was going to pass because it seemed lumped in the YA category and I am not that young, nor an adult ... at least according to everyone that knows me. However with the limited options available in this post apocalyptic, overrun by the undead world that we live in, I thought I should give it a go.
I'm glad I did.
The first book was a quick read for me because it quickly caught my interest and then held it through to the end. So much so that when the opportunity presented itself to read Viral Storm, book two in the Viral Series, I had to jump on it.
Much like the first, the characters and story quickly drew me in. And much like everything else in life, change occured. Good change, but definitely change.
While the first book touched on many themes universal to the zombie literature I've read, it did so in some original, relatively light and almost innocent ways.
Viral Storm continues in a similar way ... until it doesn't. Book two takes the story down a little darker and more graphic path, one that may catch some readers off guard. It may even be a little disturbing to some of the younger YA readers but really, compared to some other content I've read in the category it's not too over the top. Just something to be aware of.
Very interesting story with characters that will draw you in, a writing style that makes you feel like you are there and an author willing and able to play with your imagination and emotions with finesse.
I can't wait to see where we go with book 3!

And the plot thickens!

I’m loving accompanying Casey and her friends across an increasingly complex and dangerous place. There are twists and turns, good decent characters and others who should be exterminated. There is sadness, sorrow and pain. There is also the goodness that comes with helping others. And the zombies! Wow! Very well plotted and planned novel. I can’t wait for book 3.

The second book in the series has Casey and crew on the run from the biogenetics team. Harley is hunting Casey and Jordan, and then Casey gets hurt and must seek help, so the crew split up. Old faces show up, and new connections are surprising

I really can't wait for the next one to see what happens next with Casey after what happened in Ft. Wayne.
