Ruin

Rate this book
Darkness. Paranoia. Isolation.

Determined to start a new life as far from her shattered marriage as possible Emmie Landers purchases 'Bruadair' - an isolated ruin in the highlands of scotland. A place where children are safe and angry fathers are absent.

But safe is not a word that applies to Bruadair. This is a place of uneasy darkness, where a deep cold penetrates the walls, shadows linger, and the intense feeling of being watched leaves Emmie unnerved. To add to her unease, chilling photographs of the family- her family- are appearing in odd places around the house, and three-year-old Grace is talking to empty rooms.

Down in Surrey, Scott Harvington is whipping up a storm. Furious that Emmie should get to start over so easily, he is determined to hunt her down and force her to face the consequences of tearing apart his family. She ruined his life, and now he will ruin hers. Hell bent on revenge, he is resolute. He will reunite his family - at whatever cost.

As events spiral out of control, Bruadair's secret is blown open with devastating consequences. Mentally broken, Emmie must face her worst fears as the full force of a terrifying past ensures the family's future is destroyed beyond repair.

Ruin.

About the author

Rebecca Guy

Rebecca Guy was first introduced to all things paranormal at the tender age of ten when she received Hans Holzer's Ghosts – True Encounters with the World Beyond from Father Christmas. She tortured herself with the stories late into every night, after which she was too terrified to sleep.

Thanks Santa.

The trauma started a love affair with all things horror and supernatural and she now likes to write her own novels to torture herself and others with until they can't sleep. After all, sharing is caring.

Rebecca was born and raised in Staffordshire. She still lives there with her three children and a Beagle called Rosie.

Ruin penned by the author Rebecca Guy is a dark fantasy novel. Story features Emmie Landers. She had a divorce with her husband Scott. Emmie's sister Natalie asked her to move in but after some time, she had to ask Emmie to move out. Emmie purchased Bruadair. It is an isolated ruin in the highlands of Scotland. Even though Natalie insisted Emmie stay close to family and friends, Emmie made her mind to move to Scotland.

Emmie's ex-husband Scott asked her to return his mother's necklace and wedding ring to him. Emmie returned them immediately to Scott and he wished them to have a good life ahead. Emmie has two children with her. Three years old girl named Grace and an eight years old boy named Charlie are in an isolated ruin with Emmie. Is any danger lurking there? Will Scott try to find Emmie again?

Read this story for yourself to unveil the suspense. The secrets, twists and turns in the story made it an interesting read. The story kept me on the edge while I was reading it. Writing style of Rebecca is nice. Cover photo of the book is well designed. Those who enjoy reading stories involving revenge, love, darkness, danger, etc should get their hands on this one.

Excellent read

I read this book after reading her other book shattered and thought it was really good.
Without spoiling the story for others, the twist in it was so unexpected.
I had to get up early for work and very reluctant to put it down each night to sleep.
I cannot wait till October for the next book.but I suppose I must.
Thank you

3 stars for the story. 2 lost for too many typos

The story was fine. Not bad at all. But, dear me, this book really needs a basic proof read! The author seems not to believe in punctuation and correct grammar, which became irritating and really spoiled the book.

Where do I even begin with this amazing read? If you like a good suspense mixed with a haunting tale and sprinkled with a touch of romance then this is for you. Everything is well balanced. I had a hard time putting the book down and found myself reading into the early morning hours twice. The characters are well written and developed. Ems story was so emotional and gripping as she embarks on picking up her life after a messy divorce in a fixture-upper stone cottage in Scotland. I'm absolutely in love with Stu. This book had me all in my emotions towards the end and I don't get teary eyed too often unless it's animal related! I highly recommend this book!! It's a must read.

Originally I thought that this book was going to be creepy but nope. Just a woman who isn't the brightest, moves to Scotland to be away from her ex husband. Then meets a bartender and falls for him and the cheesiness begins. Yes there is a plot twist towards the end, there are multi spelling errors, and other side characters. But this book isn't worth the read.

Unputdownable

Wasn’t sure at first, not really my genre. I was however strongly recommended it. Brilliant! Nail biting, suspenseful, frightening at times and heartbreaking!

Great characters, great story telling. I will read authors next book for sure.

Kept me on the edge of my seat for most of the book. Really loved it, but at times felt too predictable and fell somewhat flat. Overall, I’m glad I read the book, as it was a gift. If not for that I’m not sure if I ever would have picked it up. Great for a quick read and to keep you in suspense!

I’ve now read two of Rebecca’s books and the problem is
She is either a want to be horror, ghost writer or she needs to be a romance writer.
Sorry enjoyed the stories, but the two together do not work
Hence the three stars.
Hope the next book doesn’t go along the same lines !!!

Effective thriller set in snowbound Scottish Highlands. E-book let down by awful errors, with sparse punctuation and wrongly spelt words throughout.
Here's hoping that the follow-up "Shattered" is free of such distractions.
