I am woman. Watch me kick a lot of ass and bed two uber hot vampire princes. This book is the building battle cry of a strong woman, and her claim on control of her life where she had none before.
Epic. There is no better way to describe this book. Janet Evanovich tried to tie a Contemporary tale with a PNR world and, in my opinion, failed. Ms. Evanovich, take notes, because Sophie Oak could teach you a thing or two about how to blend worlds. We got touches of all of our characters from my favorite series, and how the alternate plane of existence thing translates, into yet another one of Sophie Oak's wonderful adventures.
Bron is a princess that was trained to be a wife, and that everyone assumed dead. Her "Dark Ones" knew otherwise, and they are on their way to finally claim their wife.
Bron goes through an emotional call to power. She went into hiding after she was killed by her Uncle's attack on her father's throne. That's right, she died. Luckily her betrothed is a Necromancer. Yes...zombies. But I swear this is a book that was steeped in sexual tension and explosive sex.
The first twenty percent or so went a little slower for me, but the rebuilding of the story we knew through Bron's point of view was so amazing to see.
This is how a series should end. It has an end. So many books I read now are never ending series, and to watch a story unfold and reach a conclusion like this was wonderful. HEA's can only happen if the author lets the characters ride off into the sunset. We are given an inspiring tale of life and death, and finding a power in ourselves even if no one else sees it.
Add in the smoking hot sex,(Have I mentioned I love mind meld sex?), and this is a book that is darn near perfect in my eyes. 5 stars. Love.
A couple of fav quotes from the book.....
"A man's worth isn't in how many women he's had. It's in how he loves the right one."
"The queen explained it to me. Girls must stick together because men are all idiots who often times think only with their man parts, and man parts are not smart. Girls must show loyalty to one another in the face of man part foolishness."
"No perfect lady could have survived. But a woman, a real woman, was strong and she didn't shrink from loving pleasure."
