I was always told growing up in my family, surrounded by magic, that I was a dud. I had no power except the ability to talk to ghosts. It never bothered me because I enjoyed my job as a bartender at my Uncle's bar that caters to the supernatural community. I spend my nights working and getting to flirt with my crush.
Then one night, my life turned upside down. Someone was murdered right around the corner and suddenly a hot wizard detective with a perfect bubble butt from MEPA, The Magical Entity Protection Agency, swooped in and asked for my help with the victims' ghosts. Working with the detective soon leads to a race to stop a killer who is bent on exposing the supernatural community to humans with more deaths.
Join Victoria on her journey as she works to stop an evil being with the help from her crush Akira the werewolf, Lucian the wizard, and her ex-boyfriend Shax.
This is a reverse harem medium to fast burn book or a why choose novel.
A good read. Please be aware that this a reverse harem read with some detailed sex scenes. Okay the plot was a good one - murders of people that seemed to be unrelated until she stepped in. She is the black sheep of her family and has been made to feel lacking. Her father is a shifter, her mother is a strong witch but all she can do is see and talk to ghosts. The love of her life is the second in her uncle's pack. A murder outside her uncle's club (where she is bartender) has her offering comfort to the dying girl and meeting the handsome detective. Take her calling up the ghost of the dead girl, linking her own life force with the ghost, visiting other crime scenes, graphic descriptions of their deaths, a demon mark, a demon bent on killing, a magical staff, being given powers by the ghost and then being marked as the next victim by the demon and his summoner. Can they locate where the killer's are? Can they stop them or will they need someone from her past to help them? The character although colourful still seem vaguely insubstantial but this should improve with further books. However the plots need to become a bit tighter to have more impact.
Almost a two but the story is decent and there is nothing wrong with it, I just couldn’t get into it. The mc has no self preservation and is a little whiny. I don’t like it when it’s a dumb criminal. Wouldn’t count it as an RH so far as it’s a pretty mutual triangle. I’m not sure what to think about Shax. MM strong. Won’t be reading the next one.

This is a quick read and I loved every bit of it. It wastes no time jumping right into the story and damn it’s a hell of a ride. Great main character, awesome supporting cast, fascinating magic system, excellent ending - it’s got it all. Couldn’t recommend more!
This book was super cute, in the interesting and very enjoyable. Told in 1st person pov only, we get to learn all about the paranormal, and enjoy this authors take on how things go in the supernatural world. The characters are well developed, as is the plot.
3.5 stars. I liked the concept and the characters. I think the relationships were rushed and I would have liked more development from Victoria and her harem but I plan to read the next book to see what will happen next.
After reading all of the series, I have finally realised what I hate about the author's writing style. The author tells instead of shows.
Amazing! I was able to read this book because I received it as an ARC from the author after winning on facebook. Wonderful paranormal RH with twist and turns to the plot. Kept me wanting more until the very end. I can't wait for book 2 to see how the relationship between the Vickie, Lucien, and Akira grow and how Shax comes into play later on. I've always been fascinated with ghosts which is what appealed to me wanting to read this book in the first plan and the connection Vickie has to ghosts really grab me.
My main issue was the relationship development was lackluster. I’m supposed to believe that the main character was in love with someone since she was 16 okay I can do that. What I can’t relate to is hours after she finally gets the relationship she wants she’s in love with the detective. On top of that her first boyfriend so happens to by bisexual ( wasn’t mention prior to the scene) it just felt like an after thought. Her best friend the pixie isn’t even in the book. Scenes jump radically without and leading up to it.
A uniquely fun paranormal story full of magic and mayhem. I really enjoyed the overall story and suspense. The characters were just okay for me. I honestly didn’t care for the main character at all and the relationships were more instalove lacking the depth I would’ve liked to have seen. Hopefully that will develop more in the next books.
Was low-key excited the setting is where I live and can follow the locations from personal knowledge. And the fact I work near that airport… so based on what I know, I’d guess it’s “nearby”, but the description of the area is quite different than reality. Very minor detail. I was just excited I knew the locations, for once!! 🤘
Downgrade in stars: specifically the last 5 minutes of the book felt like the author “gave up” and word vomited an HEA. Unless the author wasn’t into the MC’s she was writing about, it could have been a great cliffhanger for the next in a series of the current MC’s… 😈
Hello Choose this rating for several reasons. 1) The writing is fresh. Fast paced with no dragging that made me want to skip ahead or put the book down. Everything has a purpose that drives the story. There are no frivolous add ins that some authors use to increase the word count. 2) The characters are interesting and have unique personalities and powers. 3) Best of all there is plenty of potential for growth in all the characters, their powers AND the plot!
Enjoyable read. Interesting characters. Enjoyed the completed plot aspect. Looking forward to the developing group dynamics and future cases . Aspen Black is an a author I look forward to reading in future one to watch. Often give good ratings of the story is enjoyable. Don't regularly write review.
I loved this book, what an amazing job for a debut novel. I loved Vic and her guys, their characters were well developed and thought out. I can't wait to see what's in store next for these guys!
I really enjoyed this book. As the first of a series it had good world building and character development to set up future books. There was plenty of steam, fast paced action and suspense. Look forward to seeing what the next book has to show us.
I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to more from this series! Lots of action and sexy times! Really love the characters! Look forward to more from the author!
It took about 3 times for me to choose to not DNF. There were several grammar issues but the insta-love and some details that were overlooked, just frustrated me more than anything. The writing is very simplistic and I didn't feel connected to the characters at all.
One of the instances that was an oopsie, she was given a contact card by Lucien but she goes with Akira? Or whatever his name was, back to his house. She gives him all of her clothes and he tells her he started the laundry. The next morning she needs to call the detective but the author forgot the jeans were being washed so the character pulls the card from her jeans.
I really wanted to love this series because I'm on the hunt for good ghost/medium books and they are actually pretty hard to find. I was excited to stumble upon this but I really think this author needs to work on story/world building, proper editor, a clear write out of her characters before she just implants them (they were very simplistic), and all personalities should be better defined. It read almost like they were all one character. It just seemed more childish writing than the potential this could have. I think the author has a good foundation for story telling and imagination. I just feel it really needs to be developed upon.
Victoria did not think she had any magical power that was important enough for her family. She considered herself a dud because she could only talk to ghosts. When someone is murdered nearby, The Magical Entity Protection Agency is called in. Suddenly Victoria finds herself being asked to help sexy Detective Lucian with the perfect bubble butt. Add to that her crush, werewolf Akira, and her ex-boyfriend, Shax and Victoria finds her plate quite full. It seems her abilities are much greater than she thought. Inf act, they be what is needed to solve the mystery before more are added to the body count.
Victoria and her men were excellent main characters. They each brought something unique to the mix and together they were complete. It did take some time for them to realize that but watching them work toward that made for some great reading. The plot was intricate and had many twists and turns. Finding out who the culprit was should be a surprise. There is more to come and that means there is something we can all look forward to.
There had only been one hiccup in our friendship thus far. She had dated Akira for a few months without knowing I was in love with him. They had been pretty hot and heavy, but one night I snapped at both of them about getting a room and getting the hell out of my bar. It hadn’t taken Lola long to corner me after that and get me to fess up. The tears were gross and the sobbing tears were worse. We did both. And a little scream crying too. Lola broke up with him the next day even though I had told her not to. I didn’t want to stand in the way of either of their happiness. She’d She’d looked at me like I was an idiot and said, “Bros before Hoes.
So apparently if you love someone first and your friend gets him it goes against girl code even though the friend never knew her feelings, and her crush doesn't know either. That made me drop the book because that was stupid.
Having a bit of a hart time with H... So girlie sees Ghosts and when a homicide cop tells her how her gift would be valuable in his job she.... doesn't understand it?? And she just got with her long time crush and not 24h later she flirts with another man and WOULD even kiss this stranger.... without any moral questions arising? Not a "no i can't kiss him i don't want to mess up with my long time crush even though this cop is a total hottie". Nothing. I feel like the heroine was 16 AND a airhead
Ghost Revelations it is an Erotic Paranormal Reverse Harem novel, so I knew I was in for sex, but this one also boasted a lot of story around it. I think even if you skipped over the graphically depicted sex scenes there would still be enough of the find-the-killer who-done-it action and drama to keep you entertained.
The POV Victoria is easily likable. She grew up in the paranormal world feeling rather powerless and like a failure to her extremely powerful and magical family. Okay, take out the paranormal and that’s totally relate-able.
The sex in the story mainly focuses around a Polyamorous Trio of two males and one female, Victoria. I found that I really enjoyed the chemistry the trio had in and out of the bedroom. The two males’ personalities bounced off each other really well and they both cared for and believed in Victoria, giving her confidence and the push she needed to realise she was powerful and special, regardless of what she grew up hearing her mother say.
Obviously, Victoria gets to use her powers to help catch the baddie, she gets to kick some butt and they get the killer. But I’m not going to go into that in detail - no spoilers here.
Maybe skip this one if you aren’t into graphic depictions of sex. But if your game, give it ago. I doubt you’ll be disappointed.
DNF at 35% after the FMC Victoria throws an asshole client out of her bar.
While the setting of the story was interesting, there was a little too much telling vs. showing going on, which made for pretty boring narration while the cast was trying to solve a series of murders. Additionally, the insta-lust and insta-love between the men and Victoria made the romance rather unexciting. I usually like some more conflict and hardship in my relationship development instead of something like opportunistically revealed forever love and instant attraction and acceptance on first sight.
I didn't care enough about the characters to finish the book, which is unfortunate, as I had really enjoyed the author's other standalone, Shrouded in the Dark.
This was my first book by Aspen Black and I am hooked. This is the story of Victoria who is the black sheep of her family. But she is special. She can see ghosts and talk to ghosts. In my opinion that is way cooler than having magic. She meets a detective and ends up helping solve a supernatural mystery. Soon she is thrown into a steam romance with not just one mater, but a few more. And there are plenty of steamy scenes to keep you going. And talk about humor. There are so many laugh-out-loud moments. I was so enthralled. I was solving the case with them! I am not spoiling anything! But if you like steamy paranormal romance reverse harem, this will be your jam. This narrator did a great job. I felt like she was Victoria! I can't wait to dive more into this series.
*WARNING* contains sexual content A paranormal mystery! This was such a great story. It has several different paranormal beings. The female lead is more of a bada$$ than she knows, it just takes a dead sex seer and an evil demon for her to start to learn just how much she can do. I thoroughly enjoyed the pictures of Akira and Lucian, they were very artistic. The story is easily understood. Everything fits perfectly to make the story a free flowing, easy read. There are a couple of editing errors, but for the most part, I really enjoyed this one. I will keeping an eye out for book 2, just because of Shax!
Fun, quirky MC. I liked the overall story arc. Vic is quirky, and I liked that while she is considered, even by herself, to be a dud, she doesn’t let people push her around. She is a bartender for her uncle, who is alpha of a wolf pack. I liked Akira, Lucian, and Shax individually, but thought the romance, particularity with Lucian happens too fast. There was history with Akira, but with Lucian it felt more like lust than love to me. Shax is intriguing, and I’m curious about his secrets. I liked this story and was invested enough in the characters, that I will be checking out book 2.
So I loved the concept of it, it has a good solid foundation, though disproportionate I liked the additions of the pictures, it was nice seeing how the characters were imagined by the author. The problem with the pictures were that they were not in proportion so you had a really thin waist on a guy and it just looked peculiar. I hate leaving not good reviews and I do love the books concept and I'm looking forward to the main fmc sticking 2 fingers up to her mum but there were lots of disjointed sentences and unnecessary over complicated sentences that didn't flow.
DNF at 57% This has supposedly been updated after fixing some editing issues, but it still has a lot of grammar and punctuation errors - especially around dialogue. I didn’t like the FMC at all, and the relationships between characters had no real build up. The insta-love between Lucien and the FMC (I was literally just reading the book and I can’t remember her name), mixed with the years of misunderstanding between Akira and her just added to my dislike. Insipid characters plus poor editing = not going to bother finishing.
What a great start to a series! I absolutely loved reading this book. It had everything you need to lose yourself in a story, mystery, intrigue, murder, magic, shifters not to mention steamy sexy scenes! The story is about Vickie a ghost dud- what some people call her she can see ghosts. I thought this was going to be purely about ghosts but it’s not it’s about the supe community which is great. We get to read about all different shows. Vickie and her unsuspecting beaus take you on one hell of an adventure! Definitely worth reading!
There are random pictures of the male love interests scattered throughout the book. It was really jarring and I did not enjoy them.
Otherwise, solid beginning to a series. Maybe moved a little too fast and didn’t explain as much as I wanted about background of characters and the world itself. I like the idea of the plot and hope more is explained in the next book.
I’m still probably going to read the whole series but felt obligated to warn others about the photos.
Very promising start to a new to me author. I liked Victoria but her self-esteem is a little low due to her family's snobby magical ways.
She works as a bartender with her loving werewolf uncle and, Oh yeah, she can see ghosts. This comes in handy as she gets dragged into a serial murder investigation.
Her relationship with Akira takes a turn for the better...this was so hot. Plus they get to add in a pinch of delectable detective wizard.
Not all M/M/F books work for me, but this one did and it's scorching...not sure where Shax will fit in.
This earned a 4 from me for plot alone, though the romance would have drug it down to a 3.5 - only because the romantic aspect almost felt superfluous, or rushed? The plot, however, is incredibly urban fantasy and very well done. The action matters here and the hints to future issues are exciting.
Fast burn UF RH, MMMF (m/m elements), first person, single POV. Episodic ending. Characters are 20’s +
1st book of 2020! I am in the fence with this one. The paranormal aspects were interesting but the relationships felt a bit ‘convenient’. I was interested til the end - though I must admit to skimming in parts. I wasn’t 100% invested in the MC and I can’t really say why. All the ingredients were there for a really strong storyline but it fell a little bit short for me.
