There is nothing worse than being sick on your birthday. But … if you’re stuck in bed, there’s nothing better than discovering a new mystery series that’s as fun and big as the state of Texas. In the Flannigan Sisters Mysteries, author Amanda Reid has created three sisters who couldn’t be more different but discover that love binds them after all. Oh, did I mention they each have a distinct psychic ability?

“Finders Keepers,” Book 1 of this original Texas cozy series, introduces us to Sunny Flannigan. She has a heckuva chip on her shoulder, given that her ex-boyfriend, sexy Case Navarro, is back in the picture after her oldest sister kept them apart for seven years. He broke her heart once, and she’s determined not to have it happen again. She has this unusual gift of ‘finding things,’ things she didn’t know were missing, nor does she know who they belong to. When she finds a stash of stolen goods in the restroom of the small-town library, it’s going to take both Sunny and Case to solve this mystery, and stay out of jail.

Being a 75-year-old Green Beret, Vietnam Veteran with twenty-eight years in law enforcement, I would never have expected to fall in love with a cozy mystery with a psychic twist. I received "Finders Keepers" as a gift yesterday afternoon. It didn't look promising. I decided to read a couple of chapters out of curiosity. I finished the book at 10:00 p.m. last evening. I immediately ordered "Ghosts, Pies, & Alibis," Number 2 in the Flannigan Sisters Mystery series.
Amanda Reid laid out a believable scenario with a few scary scenes and a sweet romance. Oh, to be young and in love again!

Finders Keepers is the first book in this cozy mystery series about the Flannigan sisters who have been born with some magical/paranormal gifts. The story has the perfect amount of mystery and tension. I loved the paranormal twist as the special talent for the amateur sleuth. The romantic connection between Cace and Sunny was adorable. A quick, clean read that fits the cozy genre perfectly. I look forward to reading Mina's story.

First of a COMPLETE series of nine books - each of the sisters Flannigan get three books, alternating between them - middle child (1, 4 and 7), oldest child (2, 5, and 8), and then youngest (3, 6, and 9). The author says each book can be read as a stand-alone with a satisfying end to each mystery. While there is some romance aspects in the first book, the concentration is on the cozy mystery. The boyfriend is more of a help to the solving of the mystery (he being a police officer) than fun-times; low spice, kissing is pretty much it.

Each of the sisters have slightly different psychic powers. Sunny's power is Finder - connecting loss objects to people that miss them. An old ring calls her to a different town after work, snuggled in what appears to be a collection of lost items. Shenanigans ensue. The shenanigans are suspense-driven, not funny-driven, starting with her vehicle getting two flat tires at her place of employment, building until she and Cace are hiding from the police (it's on the back blurb, so not a spoiler) and continues from there...

The book is a short, fast page-turner; I finished the 206 pages in about three and a half hours.

If you want a small dose of paranormal with your cozy mystery, pick up Finders Keepers.

Sunny's gift is finding lost things and returning them to their owner, but this time it takes a dangerous twist.

What I enjoyed:
* I liked both Sunny and Cace. They each had their strengths and were willing to communicate with each other.
* This might be the first book I've read with a physical therapist profession for a main character, so it is interesting to see glimpses of that

What could have been better:
* It was pretty short and could have started with a bit more background knowledge

These cozy mystery series are always an easy, delightful read, and Sunny Flannigan is an intriguing character who doesn't immediately make all the easy decisions. She's got the Flannigan gift, which her new-old boyfriend, Cace, believes her about and uses it to get to the bottom of a decades old thieving mystery. I like that this story is completed within the first book and that the rest of the series sounds like it follows her sisters, keeping the stories related but separate. An easy beach read!

Great read by a new author

Although cosy mysteries aren’t my usual reading fare I thoroughly enjoyed the mystery and supernatural aspects of this tale well told. Looking forward to more in this series.

Finders Keepers lacked a smooth storyline. There were grammatical and spelling errors and the characters lacked depth.

A fairly typical paranormal extra lite mystery. This read features a couple who everyone thought would marry. Instead, life happened. Do they get a second chance?

Fun, quick read! Loved the characters Sunny and Case. And that fact that the series are about 3 sisters with some kind of power or ability. In this book, Sunny Flanningan finds lost things but doesn’t always know who they belong to or how they fit into the overall mystery. Also, I enjoyed the small town, everyone knows each other, atmosphere in the book.
