Humans only have months left on Earth.
We have left our salvation to an alien ship filled with criminals, like me.

When our ship lands on the unknown planet of Noetov, who better than criminals to fight for whatever it takes to save our species.

With the man I have been (literally) dreaming about for over a year at my side, I know I can accomplish anything.

But the man I love is also the inhabitants of Noetov's life-long enemy. When he's captured, I know I'll do anything to save him...even if it sacrifices the salvation of Earth.

Joynell Schultz spends her days working in a “reliable profession” as a veterinary pharmacist, which pays the bills, but isn’t nearly as exciting as creating alternative worlds writing speculative fiction. While shivering through the long northern Wisconsin winters with her husband, two children, and numerous pets, she enjoys reading, writing, and planning her next vacation.

Skylar and Quaade
Same couple as book two. They’ve landed on a very hot unforgiving planet. They have to deal with traitors, genecide and poison sunlight. The planet was as much a character as any of the human types.

I didn’t care for this book as much as the previous two. Too much time spent walking and slogging through mud for me.

Yet again, Joynell has surprised me with her talent for science fiction. This series has completely captured my imagination and my heart and this book just builds on my admiration for her talent and her ability to make me care about her characters.
Surviving picks up from Departing with the ship carrying Sky, Quaade, the Earthlings and Vainovians across many galaxies finally arriving at their destination. Noetov is an unknown quantity, a planet that may be habitable for the two races but also may already be populated by a race that has an unfavourable history with the Vainovians, to put it mildly. Sky has no idea what problems they will face and is not sure she is up to the challenge, but has Quaade by her side to help her and support her. Sky finds herself in many tight spots in this book but this just makes her stronger, more determined, resourceful and decisive, growing into the leader that Quaade knows she can be. There are threats at every turn and she doesn't know who she can trust. She is fighting for the survival of everyone on the ship, especially the man she loves and will do anything for.
The book is full of drama, with new friends and new enemies, a hostile environment, betrayal and violence. Joy's other series up until now have been quite sweet in the surface but underlying the sweetness are quite serious and hard topics; in this book, everything is front and centre, no subtext, human (and alien) nature in the raw. The story is a battle against time, the elements, the flora and fauna, and people with their own agendas.
The world building continues to be fantastic and Noetov emerges as a real planet, with a complex ecosystem fully described and easily understood. The characters continue to grow and the races are both distinct whilst being similar. Joy's writing is indeed a joy to read and I'm eager to see how the final book of the trilogy, Returning, will wrap up this brilliant series.

This is an exciting story of what happens when the Vainovians and the earthlings land on the planet Noetov to see if it can sustain life and be a planet that their two races can live on. Also to see if any Cruisians are still inhabiting the planet that were left there by the Vainovians.

Joy has woven a very believable story of what could take place when they all meet. It brings out the best and worst in these races as it moves toward the ending of this book and sets the stage for the next in this new series.

I enjoyed the story and would highly recommend it to all young adult and adult readers. It is a story which will continue to captivate the readers from the previous book. If you enjoy adventure and romance and a story that will make you pause and reflect on what you’ve just read then this is a book well worth reading!

Kudos Joy in once again providing all the exciting drama that readers want in such a story! I along with your other loyal readers salute you and look forward to the next book in this series.

For those who haven’t read any of these books yet I would encourage you begin today. In fact if you haven’t read any books of Joynell’s please give her books a read. I can guarantee that you won’t be sorry for you will have found an author you won’t want to stop reading!

I really enjoyed this installment of Sky & Quaade's story! I always love the imaginings of Ms. Schultz, so that came as no surprise to me. I loved how Sky was able to grow and become the strong, fair woman she needed to be in order to take the leadership role among her people and the Vainovians! I also truly enjoyed watching the relationship she shared with Quaade as they both adapted to having been on the ship for months, through the previous crisis, and arrival on Noetov. Their connection and bonding formed a relationship that was really wonderful to see, and which added to the angst and drama of the plot which played out on Noetov. I also loved the world-building and development of the different characters and races. There was a lot of action and there were significant incidents which really elicited a lot of emotion in me. I will admit this story was a bit grittier than my norm, so there were a few scenes that were difficult to read, yet I think that's a sign of a good book - it pushes me outside my comfort zone and I still love it! All-in-all, I have to say I found this book incredibly entertaining, would recommend it to anyone who likes dystopian reads, and I'm thoroughly looking forward to the third novel in the series!

Skylar follows in the footsteps of various fantasy leaders who are pushed, fighting and protesting, into a role that they are not born or trained for. Seriously, a young adult convict with problems with authority figures and a desire to avoid violence as a war leader? Still the author keeps throwing poor Skylar into the deep end, forcing her to take steps that she does not want to be responsible for, to unite three very distinctly different variants of humanity. For someone who is best known for her sweet fairytalesque paranormal romances, the author does a great job creating a science fiction action tale that resonates like Del Rey's or Heinlein's juvenile works. I wonder how Earth will deal with the new Skylar.

Skylar has left Earth, on a spaceship with several other prisoners, looking for a planet to re-home Earth's people. Earth has only months left, and with Quaade by her side, she hopes that the planet Noetov will be their salvation.
But the Cruisians who inhabit that planet are violent, and hate the Vainovians. And some of the Earthlings turn on the Vainovians, killing them to earn a place on the planet. Will Skylar and Quaade be able to keep the rest safe, with help from the outcasts? Will they survive the war that they must face? I have enjoyed each book in this series so far, and this one is no exception. I cant wait for the next one!

Can Sky and Quaade's relationship survive all the curve balls thrown at them while still trying to help a dying Earth? Will they find the sustainable fuel needed or will the Cruisians inhabiting the new planet welcome them with open arms? This is a must read book - you have to read what happens next! I was spellbound and could not wait to get the answers. Be prepared to get taken away to a different planet, different landscape, fauna and flora and people willing to do anything to stay alive. Loved the intricate plots, interesting characters and drama.

This book is very appropriately named because, the betrayal, mayhem, and sheer number of casualties in this episode justifies its moniker. The action picks up in the early pages of the story, well before Skylar and Quaade reach the planet Noetov. From there it escalates to an all out assault on your senses until the very end. Honestly, I think I held my breath through most of the chapters. It's just that shocking! If you enjoy intrigue with surprises than jolt your nervous system, then this book is for you. The unique and hostile planet of Noetov and its inhabitants make for a truly Great Read!!!!!

Second in an interesting sci-fi survival series

This is the second book in a sci-fi romance series. Be sure to read the first one first, and even the prequel.

The concept of this series is really interesting, a little different than others.

In this book those who left earth have arrived on an alien world. Things get a little intense when the love infuser l interest is captured by an enemy.

I'm curious to see where the story will go from here.

More than one planet seems to have insufficient means for food growth. A series of betrayals leads to more deaths.

Sky and her paramour Quaad the medic work to keep as many as possible alive.

Trust and skills lead to some strange partners in the struggles to keep their peoples alive.

Intense action and psychological thriller.

More challenges lie ahead.

This second book in the series sees Sky on a planet that could be a possible hope for earth, but there are many obstacles in the way. There is lots of action with resistance from the present occupants. Don’t want to give anything away but can’t wait to read the next book to see what will happen on the return trip to earth. Lots of great world and character/species building as usual.

This book was just as exciting as the first. Trust is fragile. Each time the heroes seem to be getting somewhere something happens and another setback occurs. But Sky is a survivor. She didn’t get this far to give up and quit. She fights for herself and for her love. But she doesn’t stop there....she fights for the survival of any she can save.

I am not a big romance reader but this book is about space and sci-fi and I love sci-fi. The romance part was okay too. I loved the story and it held my interest enough for me to call it rather compelling. A great read with an interesting ending.

Breathtaking double crossing

Between all the species and their propensity toward war and the desire to destroy the others, there is double crossing and more. Mostly just when you least expect it. For Sky and Quaade it is a dance of life and death, and love. I applaud the author for the deviousness and strength of her wonderful characters and storyline.

Wow impressive

I liked this progress and I’m glad they are learning about each other and themselves. I like how complicated everything is because that’s how a survival novel is supposed to be.

Surviving is Book 2 in the Earth’s Only Hope series and needs to be read in order. It’s an action-packed romantic sci-fi full of twists and turns. It has a strong dystopian flavor and this one is particularly grim. Skylar is from Earth, a dying planet, and Quaade is an alien physician. They are part of a mixed crew looking for a planet that can sustain them. Skylar is a survivalist and oftentimes selfish. There’s a lot of chemistry between her and Quaade, but their love doesn’t come easy. Nothing goes as planned. Will they survive the hostile planet that they have been sent to scout out or will they fail their mission?

I received an ARC. This is my honest and voluntary review.

A Fantastic Continuation
If we were all perfect beings, we would never make mistakes. We would never be subject to trial by fire. We would simply decide something is so, and it is so...the journey to get there disregarded. But nothing is perfect, and pretty much every living being experiences trial by fire. The most important thing is to keep trying until you succeed. Excellent book! Excellent series!
