Nearly a year after learning that he can speak to the dead, Jonny Roberts has spent much of his time working with his new medium friend, Aaron. Whether it’s reconnecting loved ones with dead relatives, or helping spirits to cross over, Jonny has been happy to help.
That is, until a young boy is found dead, his body impaled with floorboards, sharpened into knife points; and in the same house where a family died seven years earlier, in a tragic fire.
Suspecting that the event might be down to the supernatural, Aaron and Jonny soon investigate. But when the spirit makes it clear that it doesn’t intend to stop at the boy, they begin to wonder if this might be their most dangerous case yet…
Book two in the chilling Jonny Roberts series! Follow everyone's favourite teen ghost-hunter in Lound's heart-stopping stories!
This one was a huuuuge surprise in every way. First of all, I actually liked this second book more than the first one, (and the first one got five starts from me, so that speaks a lot). I guess that’s natural because we get to meet the characters more and we get a better insight in what they are capable of. I still like Jonny, but I think I’d like him more if there was an edge to him. However, he is actually genuinely a good person, so I think his sharp edges will show themselves as he grows, both as a person and a medium. Cassy is awesome just the way she is, and there is also Francis whose dreadful actions thoroughly compensate for any lack of “edginess” on Jonny’s part. I should also mention that keeping the “Francis-situation” as a cliffhanger is awesome. Also, I would like to see more Keith in the future, he seems like quite a character. However, what’s truly remarkable and what quickly sucked me in this time was the story itself. It is very well developed and each aspect is logical, even when the supernatural stuff is involved. Once you’ve read this one, the first book will seem more like an introduction. To end this with a cliffhanger I should mention that one of the characters close to Jonny dies in this book. I thought he will actually be a recurring character throughout the series, but Alex Lound surprised me yet again. Can’t wait for the third book. I wholeheartedly recommend The Burned House to horror fans everywhere.
What a sinister sequel! Engaging, and entertaining, The Burned House lives up to its predecessor. I'm quite curious to see if there will be a third book. Also, I plan to look into the author's other work.
The Burned House starts off with a bang and keeps going through the whole book. The pacing is fantastic and keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time. This is a fantastic second novel, and really let’s Alexander Lound’s writing talents shine.
There is an air of creepiness that sticks with you through the book. I like that atmosphere and it got my heart pumping a bit…which is always fun when you’re reading a book like this. It’s a testament to the talents of the author.
Johnny, our main character, is of course back. He’s grown and he grows in this novel as well. Added in is a romantic relationship which is handled really well. It drives the plot forward rather than stalling it, which I loved.
A spooky read with twists and turns that is really hard to put down. Looking forward to the next in this series.
*I was sent a free copy of The Burned House from author, Alexander Lound, in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own and unbiased.*
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Jonny Roberts is back for a new paranormal investigation with Aaron and company. Beware because this one gets dark.
Lound really has a gift for pulling the rug right from under you-- even within the first few pages. This story had me feeling that creepy sensation I used to get as a kid when I was walking home from school and I passed by the old house on the corner that people whispered about. These fears that stick with you from childhood are used so effectively in this story!
Had I read this book years ago, I’m certain it would have scared the crap out of me and because of that it would’ve easily been a favorite of mine. Even though I’m older now and I’ve consumed scarier media, this is the kind of book I want to have around for the kids out there who are like me.
It’s clear to me that Jonny has matured quite a bit as a person since the first book. Now he has to navigate the complexity of a romantic relationship in addition to the main conflict with the paranormal. I loved getting to see him and Cassy work through their issues together, communicating in a healthy way and supporting each other. I wish this was included in more YA stories because a healthy relationship is more than just kind words and kissing.
As for the plot, it’s even more suspenseful and twisty than the first book. The action starts off immediately and never lets up. I read The Burned House in one sitting because I couldn’t put it down! I said it in my last review and I’ll say it again: Lound is an author to keep an eye on. I can’t wait to see where he takes us next in this series!
I’d like to give thanks to Mr. Lound for the opportunity to read this story before its official release!
Thank you to Alexander Lound for approaching our blog and sending me an eARC of this book!
Halloween has long passed, but there’s always time for a ghost story as far as I’m concerned. So when Alexander Lound emailed me asking if I would be interested in reading and reviewing the second book in the Jonny Roberts series, “The Burned House”, there was really only one way I could answer. Yes! If you recall, I enjoyed the first in the series, “The Spirit in the Crypt” as I found it to be an engaging ghost story with likable characters and high stakes. Teenage medium Jonny Roberts is a fun protagonist, and I was eager to see where things went next for him and his girlfriend Cassy, as well as his medium mentor Aaron. Now that we’ve established Jonny as a full fledged medium, that meant that he’d have to delve deeper into his powers, and with that could mean upped stakes and higher tension. And boy oh boy did we go in both those directions.
In “The Burned House”, Jonny has started to come into his own as a medium, helping Aaron with various spirit cases, and while he and his girlfriend Cassy are still happy and in love, the tension with his ‘profession’ has started to come to the surface. And in this story, there is reason to believe that Cassy’s hesitance may be right, as Jonny and Aaron are soon entangled in the death of a boy, whose body was found in a house in which a family burned to death a few years prior. It soon becomes clear that it’s the work of an angry spirit, and the only insight they have is from the surviving family member, a teenage girl named Megan. Jonny, of course, wants to help, but the good intentions he has involve more and more risk. The story is basically Jonny potentially biting off more than he can chew, and how that threatens not only his life, but his relationships. I liked that Lound showed how someone with his abilities would potentially have a lot of difficulties with relationships with ‘normal’ people, and that you can understand why both he AND Cassy have legitimate reasons to feel the way they do about his new calling. It also means that we get some deliciously angsty scenes with teenagers. And as a teenager who was in love with her boyfriend and had to deal with some problems that felt earth shattering at the time, these scenes felt very, very true to life.
The mystery and motivation behind the angry spirit was well plotted out and fun to get through. I cracked the code early on, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it was easy to crack. I’ve just been reading these kinds of stories for years, so I know what to look for. And even though I guessed the outcome early, I still enjoyed the journey that we took to get to said outcome. Lound really does up the stakes this time around, with the looming threat of injury and death at the hands of an angry spirit a very real issue. And we don’t pussyfoot around what all of this could mean for Jonny and his friends; on the contrary, there is a very significant loss in this book, one that I didn’t see coming, and one that was a bit of a bummer. But no spoilers here. I just want to hit the point home that we are starting to see the consequences that Jonny has to contend with because he has decided to pursue being a medium.
“The Burned House” was a thrilling and fun follow up to “The Spirit in the Crypt”. It checks all of my favorite boxes of a ghost story and medium story, and I’m eager to see where Jonny Roberts goes next!
This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review
Wow what a follow up to the first book in this series! This book starts with the story line quickly, loved being able to get straight into the action. A 16 year old girl comes to Jonny and Aaron to talk to her dead sister, to stop her dead sister from committing murders. I won't spoil the ending but wow the last 20 percent of the book was incredible, full of action, made me cry, and kept me on edge about what was going to happen next. And what an ending, never saw that coming!
Throughout the book you also learn more about the building relationships between Jonny and Cassy and Jonny and his mum, about how they are healing after his dad left them when he was younger. I love the characters, I have loved how they have been developed, Jonny so caring wants everyone to be alright even at the expense of himself and Cassy. I liked how it still includes bits of his life as a teenager and not just him as someone who can talk to the dead. There are a few cliff hangers in there that I really hope are addressed in the third installment.
If you have not read the first two books in this series then you definitely should! I cannot fault this book.
Its been a year since Jonny has learned he can talk to and hear the dead. Since his last escapade with Alice Pickering in #thespiritinthecrypt he has been working with Aaron to hone his ghostly skills.
There is an old abandoned house where a fire killed 3 of it's inhabitants and has a vengeful spirit. Accidents begin happening and Jonny knows they are anything but. Will he and Aaron be able to stop this spirit before anymore deaths happen?
What a great follow up to The Spirit in the Crypt. From the beginning to the end it had me invested! Utterly creepy and dark! 🤔 Wonder if there are any more to adventures to come...
I received this Ebook from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I had originally heard of this series from the author when he had reached out and sent me the e-arc for book1. I loved it and immediately bought this book. Like the first book, it was a quick read, and loved that we got to see more character growth. It was nice to see Johnny trying to balance his new life with his old one. If you love suspense, mystery, and slice of life this book is for you! Definitely a great young adult read but definitely for all ages. The mystery was good and by the end, I had a few guesses and loved that I had gotten it right!
Johnny is hard at work learning what it means to be a messenger for the dead, a spokesperson, a medium! Its been almost a year since he first discovered his gift. Now he must learn to balance his new life with his old! Easier said than done right? All while having to deal with a new spirit one stronger then any he or Aaron has ever dealt with. Just another day at the office of the dead!

The Spirit in the Crypt *** The Burned House ****
So I liked the first book, but actually enjoyed the second book a lot more. The characters feel more developed, I love the fact that while Jonny is in fact coming to grips with his medium abilities he still faces everyday teenage issues. I was really routing for Jonny and Cassie, I love the two of them together. I'd like to find out more about Aaron's past and know a little bit more about some of the things he has faced while being on the job though, I still feel like this man is a bit of a mystery. It's a little darker than the first book, I think that's why I liked it a little more, its just felt a little more of the horror genre. I'm definitely interested in what might come next.
The second book In the Jonny Roberts series is another great book, This one gets darker with more adventures and mystery’s to solve, We get to learn more about Jonny and his friends in this instalment. I really loved the character development and the creepy storyline, it defiantly threw me for a loop at the end. I really like the relationship between Cassy and Jonny, they really are such a great young couple and go through so much together. This is such a great YA book and is great second book in the series, I can’t wait to read the third. If you are into a little spooky read, check this one out! 4.5 ⭐️
OH MY GOSH this was such a good book I LOVED it and I just can’t handle everything that happened and what could happen when the next one comes I am just excited and I am going to need some time to get over how this book made me feel!!
I would firstly like to thank the author for providing me a free e-copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.
The Burned House is the exciting sequel to The Spirit in the Crypt by Alexander Lound and follows the journey of Jonny as he learns more about what being a medium truly means.
The Burned House begins with a group of teens playing football and kicking a ball into a Haunted House. I was expecting these teens to become part of Jonny’s crew but was completely blindsided by the intense murder that followed. This introduces that the spirit or spirits involved in this case really mean business.
Jonny is joined by his girlfriend Cassy, his best friend Stephen and local medium and somewhat mentor Aaron on the case to solve this murder and help the spirits involved find peace. But not everything is as it seems and Lound leads the reader on a harrowing journey that leaves all of our favourite characters in serious danger.
I really enjoyed this book because it is much darker than the first. Some of the twists in the story are a bit predictable but overall that doesn’t take away from the reading experience. The characters are young in this story and this is demonstrated in the dialogue of the story. I am looking forward to more character development in the books to come now that Jonny is faced with more adult and serious situations.
I really enjoyed the more information regarding mediums and techniques they use to communicate with different spirits and occult practices in this book. It was well researched and presented and allowed the reader to learn along with Jonny.
A wonderful sequel in a series with a lot of future potential.
This novel is the second volume in the Jonny Roberts series and the story takes place a few months after the events of THE SPIRIT IN THE CRYPT. To me, BURNED HOUSE was really entertaining. The characters are still as endearing, if not more: where the first volume flipped through a little bit over some characters, this time we get a more developed vision of Jonny's character but also of his entourage. At only 16, our young hero has to find a certain balance (sometimes precarious) between his new gift and his everyday life. Once the book finished, we can't help but ask ourselves a few questions: Will Jonny ever tell his mom about his gift? Will the Cassy-Jonny couple be able to cope with all the tension surrounding his power and the consequences that come with it? How will they deal with this tragic death? We'll certainly find out soon (at least I hope so) in the third volume of the Jonny Roberts Series. I want to thank the author Alexander Lound for sending me these little gems. If you like thrillers and ghost stories I kindly invite you to have a look at THE SPIRIT IN THE CRYPT and THE BURNED HOUSE. Alexander Lound is a young indie author and THE BURNED HOUSE is his second novel. It's important to support the authors we appreciate, especially the independent ones, so that they can continue to do what they do and make us dream. Book review time 🌟 I was given a free copy of this book in return for my honest feedback... After starting this book last night I have finished! I can’t put it down! It was breath taking! I couldn’t have said how the story would plan out because it’s completely different to whole way through then what I thought it would be! I truly feel this book was better than the 1st! & I really hope there is 3rd Jonny book on its way! Through the whole book I felt pain, sadness and other mixed emotions! I truly believe that this book and the first has opened my eyes into reading more paranormal books! I’m truly grateful for being given the opportunity to read Alexander Lound books! Definitely a 5 🌟 from me!! .... Nearly a year after learning that he could speak to the dead, Jonny Roberts has spent much of his time working with his new medium friend, Aaron. Whether it’s reconnecting loved ones with dead relatives, or helping spirits to cross over, Jonny has been happy to help. That is, until a young boy is found dead, his body impaled with floorboards, sharpened into knife points, and in the same house where a family died seven years earlier, in a tragic fire. Suspecting that the event might be down to the supernatural, Aaron and Jonny soon investigate. But when the spirit makes it clear that it doesn’t intend to stop at the boy, they begin to wonder if this might be their most dangerous case yet....
The Burned House catches up with Jonny, Aaron, Cassy and Stephen a year after the events of The Spirit in the Crypt with a much darker and more dangerous encounter with the supernatural. The novel opens with a boy accidentally kicking a football through the window of an abandoned house and going to retrieve it, unfortunately the house has other plans for him. This same house saw the deaths if a family seven years earlier, leading Jonny and Aaron to suspect that supernatural forces may be to blame.
I have to say that I had high hopes going in to this novel as I thoroughly enjoyed The Spirit in the Crypt and thankfully, I was not disappointed. Lound once again weaves wonderful character development throughout meaning that I had no choice but to become emotionally invested with the fates of Jonny and his friends.
I also found that as Jonny had become accustomed to his new abilities, the plot took on much more momentum and every scene had me on the edge of my seat, turning the pages to find out what was going to happen. Not only are we taken on a journey to solve the mystery of The Burned House, but we’re also on Jonny’s journey of teenage doubt and confusion, of first love and most importantly, of friendship.
I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and I am very much looking forward to seeing what Alexander Lound publishes next (my fingers are crossed for a Jonny Roberts book three!)
I received this book for free in return for an honest review.
This is the second book in the Jonny Roberts series, I’d recommend checking out the first book beforehand.
We rejoin Jonny a few months after the events of the first book, in that time he’s been helping out Aaron with more cases, and he’s growing into his new life as a medium in training!
The first chapter really sets the tone for this book and let’s you know that things can get pretty dark when dealing with spirits! Once again it’s up to Jonny and Aaron, with help from friends, to figure who this new spirit is and why it’s acting in the way it is!
This book combines teenage love, paranormal activity and detective work to create a captivating story. By the end of the novel I found myself eagerly wanting to know what’s going to happen in future books!
It was great to see the development of characters from the first book. Both as individuals and their relationships with each other!
If you’re a fan of other paranormal books then this is definitely something you should be checking out. Once again I’d strongly suggest reading book one before picking up this book!
Fantastic novel, gripping and immersive with a sense of wanting to read more and more from the start. Jonny is a person I can relate to and imagine a very clear descriptive view of, very life like A sense of vulnerability and fun under the layers of the main character. With lots of secrets to be revealed about him
Certain things jumped out at me from the start tho; a few unanswered questions about the start of the story. Things I would have hoped for a little more detail, felt I was lacking a little bit of extra information. It didnt hinder the story at all as I throughly enjoyed it.
Certain references to the first book; (the spirit in the crypt) occurred to me; a few unanswered questions sprang to mind that may need clarification. Not that they relate to this story. It's a follow on/yet stand alone....could easily fit in with reading the 2nd novel had I not read the 1st installment.
All in all a fantastic book and a pleasure to read with a sense of being gripped at the character's fate's Definitely deserves a 5* rating
* I was sent copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review* After reading the first book in the Jonny Roberts series I was excited to find out what came next and I was certainly not disappointed. We follow Jonny one year after he finds out he’s a medium as he works with his mentor to solve another paranomal case. I read this book entirely in one sitting as I simply could not put it down, from the very first chapter it’s loaded with action and hauntings and it kept me engaged throughout. I liked that although there is a romantic plot it does not take centre stage and it functions as a good realistic representation of a teenage relationship - less insta love and more conversation. It is rare for me to enjoy a second book in a series as much as I enjoyed the first but this was a great continuation of the story and I would even go as far to say I liked it a bit more. If I used half stars it would definitely be a 4.5 Highly recommend this series if you’re looking for a YA paranomal read.
The Burned House by Alexander Laund is a spine-chilling sequel in the Jonny Roberts series, and I loved it. It haunts you from the first page until the last. The burned house is everything you expect from a creepy old building. with broken windows and a backstory to keep you up at night. We learn quickly the house has the ability to kill and desire to do so without anybody knowing. Not Exactly the house you want to host a dinner party in. In this installment Jonny deals with a little ghost hunting, romance, and of course the mystery that is the burned house. Which is anything but cozy and becomes Johnny's most dangerous case. I found myself excited over the experience of Johnny going to prom, and watching what happens with the relationships he builds in this story. The romance is a great add to the plot and kept me looking forward to reading each page. It’s a home run of a sequel and a fun yet horrifying read. I couldn’t put it down. Thank you Alexander Lound for giving me a copy of your book to review.
Thank you to Mr. Lound who sent me an e-copy of his second book The Burned House in exchange for a review.
I really enjoyed the second Jonny Roberts tale, as he tries his hardest at being a good son, a loving boyfriend, a supportive friend & trusty sidekick to his medium friend, Aaron. It does bounce between narratives occasionally, but mostly you are following Jonny as he tries to protect his community, friends and family. I was invested in the story right from the beginning, as it opens with the murder scene. There a couple twists that may not have been the most difficult to figure out, but I still needed to keep reading to know for sure who/what was behind the murders and why.
All in all, this was an easy but interesting read & I’m very much looking forward to Jonny Roberts’ next adventure. Thank you again to the author for sending me a copy of his work. : )
This book was provided to me by the author for a free and honest review.
This book was a ride. It follows the same characters as before and they are once again trying to get a ghost to move on that died in a house fire, but over the years has become a poltergeist that started killing people around it.
I flew this book. The action in here didn’t let up for a minute and constantly had me guessing who was behind the killings and why. I started to suspect everyone and the plot twists kept me reeling and second guessing. In the end I should have trusted my instincts, which means the foreshadowing was great.
One thing I have to criticize is that I feel the end was rushed. I would have liked the killers motivation a little more flushed out. I also wanted a moment between Johnny and Casey at the end. I wanted some resolution between the two characters. It’s these two things that did make the ending seemed rushed.
Johnny is not your average 16 year old, he has quite an involvement with the paranormal. This book is the second of a series featuring Johnny and his friends. All seems calm and normal, Johnny and his girlfriend Cassy preparing for prom, the remnants of book one behind them, when a new mystery begins to unfold. This one involves a family that died in a fire, one daughter left behind and one spirit haunting, and a string of death that follows.
I enjoyed the book, it was short at less than 200 pages, had an Odd Thomas feel to it, a little predictable but it didn't stop the energy of the story. Once I started reading I didn't want to stop. I would most likely continue with this series, it has potential and was entertaining.
The author provided me with a free copy of this book in exchange for this honest review.
I had high hopes for this sequel as I loved the first book (The Spirit in the Crypt). I was not disappointed!! The second instalment in the life of Jonny Roberts and his supernatural abilities pulls you in and demands your attention. The author has created such a rich series of events which establishes a sense of adrenaline within the heart of the reader. The conclusion of this novel will still have you pondering upon it even after you have finished reading. I can positively say that this series has been the encouragement I needed to delve into the supernatural genre.
After reading the Spirit in the Crypt and loving it, Alexander Lound has kindly sent me a free copy of the second book in the Jonny Robert series, The Burned House. This time Jonny has a more challenging mystery to solve where people lives are at stake, will he be able to save them? If I enjoyed the first book, this was unbelievable, there is a growth in the authors writing and the characters which makes the whole story just a perfect YA mystery/ghost story! Can’t wait for a future book in the series to be published!
This book was even better than the first! The stakes were even higher and it was so fast paced and exciting; I couldn’t put this down. I read this in one sitting and can not wait for another instalment. These characters are so relatable and I feel as though I know them and I felt as though I was going on the same journey with them. I loved all the twists and turns and the ending was amazing. I loved this! Thank you to the author for sending me a copy of this book.
Jonny Roberts is back and more confident in his medium abilities! Jonny, his mentor Aaron, his love Cassy and best mate Stephen all find themselves in danger after a new spirit comes into their lives. Not everyone makes it out alive though! I love it when sequels are better than the debut! The first 11 pages in, I was hooked!!!

The Burned House is the second book in the Jonny Roberts series and in many ways it's a better novel than The Spirit in the Crypt. It's much darker in tone and more horrifying. I recommend The Burned House even if you haven't read The Spirit in the Crypt yet. This is a good YA horror novel.
I felt so bad for Johnny the whole time. This kid has so much on his plate at once. Should probably read the series in order to help with some references but not completely necessary. After reading this though I do want to read the first.
