For years, mercenary Easy Nevada risked her life finding ancient artefacts for a mysterious benefactor. Now she’s after one last score, the biggest of all: a relic so cursed that it was buried with Cleopatra in a secret tomb over two thousand years ago. But to uncover it, she’ll need help.
By-the-book Candice Cushing only ever wanted to conduct archaeology the traditional way. Now the find of a lifetime is beckoning from the middle of the Sahara, but she’ll have to throw her lot in with Easy Nevada to get to it. The problem is, she doesn’t know if she even likes the fast-talking rogue, let alone trusts her. What’s more dangerous: the desert or her new partner?
Searing heat and burning chemistry mix with the danger of a vengeful zealot in this rollicking adventure. Working together, Easy and Candice might just be able to beat the odds. And maybe they’ll survive long enough to realize they want more from each other than just buried treasure.
A full-throttle thrill ride with kick-ass lesbians, action, and more heat than the Sahara.
Georgette Kaplan was born in Shirebrook, Derbyshire, to Eileen, a dancer, and Barry, a street merchant and lounge singer. She was a Diver on the British National Diving Team and finished twelfth in the World Championships in 1992. She has also been a fashion model, black market salesman and finally of course, actor. She received the audition for her debut role as Bacon in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) through French Connection, for whom she was modeling. They became a major investor in the film and introduced her to Guy Ritchie, who invited her to audition for a part in the film by challenging her to impersonate an illegal street vendor and convince him to purchase fake jewelry.
Wait a minute, that's Jason Statham. Shit! Is there any more room?
Okay, I'm a writer, I've published a few books, I'm looking for an artist to go halfsies with me on a webcomic and an agent because, let's be honest, that paragraph up there is my idea of marketing myself, so I may need some help with that. Otherwise, what do you need to know about me? It's not like I'm running for President.
A fun ride filled with action and adventure. This is the second book in the Cushing-Nevada Chronicles. While I did like book one a little bit more, we are only talking about a quarter star difference here. This was no sophomore series slump and was just as entertaining as the first book. If you are new to the series I would highly recommend reading book one Easy Nevada and the Pyramid’s Curse first. Both books are completely connected where book one ends the other book begins. While you could eventually figure out what is going if you started here, you’d be missing out on half the adventure which would be half the fun.
The story is about Easy, treasure hunting, grave robbing, badass and Candice, who is an archeologist. The two of them are hunting for the last crystal skull- out of twelve- that have been hidden all over the world. If Easy can find this skull she just might have the money to keep her dying son, she put up for adoption, alive.
If Lara Croft and Indiana Jones had a sarcastic lesbian daughter, that would be Easy Nevada. If you like the feel of those action movies with artifacts, pyramids, tanks, guns, explosions, and danger at every turn, this is the book version of those types of movies. While reading this book everything is so well described that it plays like movie in front of my eyes. I felt like I was there from the heat of the explosions to the sand in my shoes. Kaplan really knows how to write action books.
There is romance in this book but it is light. The characters have really strong chemistry but Easy is a bit of a cad who would flirt with any woman of age so the less reckless Candice likes to fight her attraction to Easy. But the longer they spend together and the more Candice learns about what’s under the sarcastic shell of Easy, the harder it is to ignore her pull. I really like these two as a potential couple and I look forward to finding out what happens.
If you have read any of Kaplan’s books you will knows she has a very unique sense of humor. Kaplan can be a little polarizing where you either get her or you don’t. I happen to love her humor. There are a few pop culture references that I miss, but for the most part I get the jokes and they actually make me laugh. As most of you know I have trouble with humor in books, but Kaplan’s sarcasm really works for me. The good part about these books is even if you are not a huge fan of Kaplan’s humor, this book is such an action adventure that the book is worth the read just for that fact alone. We don’t see a ton of action-romances lately, there used to be so many more when I first started reading lesfic. Nowadays, I’m happy to get my hands on them when I can and Kaplan does not disappoint.
If you are a Tomb Raider or Indian Jones fan, I think you will have a lot of fun with this series. If you like action and plenty of excitement, this is the book for you. It’s pure entertainment and I’m excited to read book three in 2020.
Candice Cushing and the Lost Tomb of Cleopatra by Georgette Kaplan is the second book in The Cushing–Nevada Chronicles series. This novel begins where the first one ends and continues the adventures of Easy Nevada and Candice Cushing.
Easy Nevada is a character similar to Indiana Jones or Lara Croft, only in lesbian form. She is on a mission to find the twelfth crystal skull for her employer, after already finding the last eleven. For this last one, she needs the help of Candice Cushing, a by-the-book, British educated archaeologist. Candice does not agree with Easy’s grave robbing. However, after being connected with Easy in her last project and facing the wrath of a religious zealot whose son Easy killed, she finds herself a partner in the quest for Cleopatra’s tomb and the last crystal skull. Thus the adventure continues with lots of bad guys, bullets, rockets and bombs, with hardly time for the two to breathe in between.
I love the character of Easy Nevada. She is sarcastic, funny, rude and caustic; everything you expect from a character like this. Add in the straight-laced, British taught, all business, law abiding archaeologist, and you automatically have some wildly funny and exciting times. The adventures in this tale are really non-stop. It is best to set aside any expectations of realism before you begin to read. This is not a realistic story, but it is very enjoyable if you just sit back and let the tale unfold.
Don’t expect a lot of romance, though there is a definite attraction between Easy and Candice. The attraction began in the first novel and continues here, but it is not the major plot line of this tale, at least not yet. This is an action and adventure story for the most part. I will mention that this is not the end of the series. There will be at least one more novel added to the chronicles. This is NOT a standalone book. If you have not read Easy Nevada and the Pyramid’s Curse, you will not understand, and probably not enjoy this story. There is simply too much information in the first novel that you need in this one. I read the first book a little over a year ago, and even I had a bit of a hard time remembering some of the secondary characters that turn up in this one. I can’t imagine trying to understand everything without some knowledge from book one.
If you love adventure stories like Indiana Jones or the Tomb Raider, then I think you will enjoy these books. I enjoyed both novels and will be looking for the third one as soon as it is published. I received an ARC from Ylva Publishing for an honest review.
Reading a book by Georgette Kaplan is always fun and at times mind-boggling, and it’s true once again. Candice Cushing and the Lost Tomb of Cleopatra is the sequel to Easy Nevada and the Pyramid’s Curse and picks up right where the latter ended. Do not read it as a standalone, you’ll miss out on most of the fun. Also, why would you deny yourself the pleasure of more Cushing and Nevada?
I won’t even try to summarize what the story is about, other than saying that, still looking for Cleopatra’s secret tomb, Nevada, the tomb raider, and Candice, the earnest archeologist, keep escaping death, fighting and flirting, sometimes all at the same time. There’s a lot happening, it’s hot and dusty as the Sahara and thrilling as can be.
I love and hate Easy Nevada in equal measure. She’s like the blasé (but surprisingly kind at times) spawn of Indiana Jones and Lara Croft and she also reminds me of the male heroes in old black and white comedies. She’s obnoxious and arrogant and selfish and greedy yet so sexy. She’s the epitome of the sexy scoundrel. Candice on the other hand is both very British and hoping to reconnect with her roots in Sudan. She’s respectful and reliable. They couldn’t be more different, so much so that Candice isn’t even sure she likes Nevada, but she has a tough time resisting her. Nevada is much more complex than she wants the rest of the world to believe, but she doesn’t really fool Candice.
Like Easy Nevada and the Pyramid’s Curse, Candice Cushing and the Lost Tomb of Cleopatra is exhilarating and deeper than the story, the cover (which I love), the title would have you believe. In this crazy adventure, Candice learns to appreciate the simple fact of being alive. Not dead, as she herself puts it. She gets closer to Nevada, better understanding her motivations and the way she thinks and acts.
If you’re hoping for romance, you might be disappointed, although there’s a lot of flirting, and it gets hot for other reasons than the desert every now and then. A third book is announced for 2020 and, fingers crossed, Easy and Candice will finally get there. Or maybe not. I love the interaction between them so much, I don’t really care where it goes.
I received a copy from the publisher and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Why hasn't Hollywood contacted Georgette Kaplan yet? Because I can't help seeing this series as a mix of Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider.
I’ll give it to Kaplan that she can write action adventure in the lesbian genre with the fun and flare that it needs rather than with heavy handed melodrama I’ve seen by other lesfic writers who attempt action adventure.
If you're looking for something fun with some suspension of realism…Because my hips ache after a good floor mopping that requires some ibuprofen on a good day let alone getting blown up by a bomb, falling down heights, and able to hike for days in a desert…then give this a go.
However, since this is the second book in the series, don't start here. Pick up “Easy Nevada and the Pyramid's Curse” first since this is a serialized series that builds off of of each book rather than being self-contained.
Why I didn't LOVE this book was the shallowness of Easy Nevada. She has a sarcastic comment or a punchline for literally EVERYTHING she says and that gets tiring to read sometimes. I had more of an issue with this in the first half of the book but I’ll admit that she tickled my funny bone at times. The first half I struggled some but the book picked up for me more as I read and I enjoyed it more with each page turn.
On a side note, I've read a couple of books lately with elements of comedy and those comedic moments were more born from situations where the person wasn’t TRYING to be funny but what they said or did still managed to be. With this book (and her previous one), I feel like Kaplan is purposefully trying to make me laugh with each dialogue phrase...It's not a criticism but just know that's the style.
There is still a growing romance between Easy and Candice but it’s still very much on the surface and don’t expect a lot of intimacy.
However, just like walking into an action movie looking for entertainment rather than a deep emotional impact, if you take that same approach to this book you should have a good time.
And for those who like to know if a book has cliffhangers, this one does. It was satisfying in itself to read but it ends in a way to let us know a third book is coming.
The high octane thrill-ride continues with Candice Cushing and the Lost Tomb of Cleopatra, part II of The Cushing-Nevada Chronicles. Georgette Kaplan drops us in right after the end of Easy Nevada and the Pyramid’s Curse.
Kaplan writes action scenes like no other. They are so realistic, it’s like you are right there with Easy Nevada and Candice Cushing, dodging blows, shooting guns and eating sand. 3D action all the way, baby!
So we are still in the Sahara desert, with the baddies on our tail (see book 1). Nevada and Candice are looking for a crystal skull, the last in a set of 12 and the completion of years of finding and collecting these babies from all over the globe. Candice wants to do it by the book while Nevada does it… her way. Cue hilarious banter and sticky situations.
It’s no secret by now that I worship Georgette Kaplan’s writing ever since her fanfic days. She hasn’t written a bad book yet. Her snark is to die for, she is a super nerd with unmatched knowledge of pop culture. Her writing is intelligent, whether it’s history, world politics, native cultures, weapons or any other subject used in this plot, she makes it believable. Her stories (and her sense of humor) just resonate with me.
All the action takes place over the course of a few days. The chemistry between Easy and Candice intensifies but their romance (such as it is) has to take its own sweet time. Much better that way.
I highly recommend this if you love your action/adventure with a big dollop of crazy, zany, wackadoodle, smart, awesome, badassness!
f/f the flirting (all Easy) intensifies.
Themes: Africa, desert, sand in all the wrong places, the 12th skull, bad-ass women, can we trust this weird-ass billionair? The Khamsin, Granddad is pretty spry for an old dude, Cleopatra’s secret tomb, a ship in the sand, The fivefold titular.

I really wanted to love this, but I didn’t. I was hoping that the adventure of the first one would have more of the same and then some connection between Easy and Candice. Easy has to find the last in a series of relics and there is no way Candice is letting her go alone, if only to preserve the archeological treasures that Easy has no care for.
The action is exciting and fast but my disappointment is in Easy and Candice. There seems to be little or no depth to Easy beyond superciliousness and brashness. Even her reason for doing the relic hunting isn’t given enough time or insight. I have the same with Candice but in a different way: she's all business and does not seem attracted to Easy in the slightest.
There are one or two moments where I thought that they were about to get some depth, and then they didn’t. I would prefer this as a graphic novel because then I would at least get to look at the drawings. Two and a half stars rounded up.
Book received from Ylva Publishing for an honest review.
4 Stars This was a fun, action-packed sequel in the Cushing-Nevada Chronicles. This picks up right after the previous book, “Easy Nevada and the Pyramid’s Curse” left off. I highly recommend reading these in order as you will miss many of the plot points that come up in this.
Easy Nevada is the same lovable idiot in this, maybe even more so as I now find her to be endearing and some of her comments and actions just make me smile and shake my head. These books cannot be taken too seriously, Easy cannot be taken seriously. If you try to take it seriously, she will probably offend you. A lot. Kaplan did make her a bit more human here, and now that I know more of her background and why she’s doing what she’s doing I do find her to be more sympathetic. But she is still crass and I honestly don’t know how she can find the will to flirt and run for her life at the same time.
Candice gets to shine a bit more in this one, as you can probably tell by the title. Her intelligence really shines through here and it was fun watching her work out these ancient puzzles using only her brain. She’s in the middle of the desert so she can’t really whip out her phone and google things to give her answers. It was also entertaining how she and Nevada got to know each other better and opened themselves up to one another; all the while flirting and squabbling with each other.
I don’t know if book 3 is the end of the series but I can’t wait to read and see if Nevada and Candice can finally get a break and maybe take a nap.
I enjoyed this follow-up to Easy Nevada and the Pyramid's Curse. Not quite as much as the first one, but it still made me laugh out loud and smile quite a bit. Narrator Abby Craden said she loved working on these books and I can see why. While it has darker moments, in general it's just frollicking tomb raider-type adventurous fun. What struck me more than in the first book is that there are TONS of pop culture references in Nevada's jokes. So if you don't know who or what she is talking about, you wouldn't get much of the humor. Nevada spends much of her time shamelessly flirting/propositioning her now-sidekick archeologist Candice Cushing, while searching for a skull she has agreed to find for a wealthy collector. The reason she has taken on this and other jobs is a bit more fleshed out in this installment and gives more insight into who Nevada actually is - apart from the image she prefers to convey. She also makes some progress with wooing Candice in this one and without giving anything away, there's a moment between them that I found a bit more icky than sexy, but maybe that's just me. The epilogue teases that this is not the last we'll be seeing of Nevada and Candice, and I'll no doubt be ready to go along for the ride on their next adventure.
4.25 stars. And yes, also the second book in this series was so much fun! Easy Nevada and Candice Cushing continue their hunt for ancient artefacts in the desert (so they should be read in order). This is not without a good dose of danger and adventure, finding clues, death traps (yes, they exist), pursuits by fanatics, it’s all there. And there are also some romantic developments, although the focus lies on the adventure and not so much on the romance.
Like in the first book, the dynamics between Easy and Candice are excellent, I love the combination of Easy’s big mouth and Candice’s measured attitude. Also, the narration by Abby Craden was excellent as usual. Book 3 has just been released, I can’t wait to see how the story continues.
Georgette Kaplan takes you on a hot, dusty and dangerous journey through the Sudan desert following archeologists Candice Cushing and the unpredictable Easy Nevada. Candice Cushing and the Lost Tomb of Cleopatra continues where Easy Nevada and the Pyramid’s Curse had left off.
Nevada is being paid handsomely to search for twelve skulls of the ancient gods for billionaire Akbar Akkad Singh. Legend has it that who ever brings all the skulls together is granted one wish. Nevada and Candice are searching for the final skull thought to be in Cleopatra’s lost tomb.
As in the first novel in this series Kaplan sets a sprinters pace throughout. The novel starts with Nevada handing over the first skull and next her and Candice are searching for the last one. I am a fan of Ms Kaplan’s writing and I am pleased with this second book in the series. Through conversations between Nevada and Candice we learn the important things that occurred after the first skull was found to where they are now. I really enjoyed this method of filling in the back history. As well , their dialogue is witty and enjoyable even though I feel the flirting from Nevada was a bit over done and went on too long. No does mean no however I do understand Nevada uses this to diffuse tense situations.
There is a lot happening all the time and you do need to keep your head in the game. I enjoy challenging plots and hopefully you will as well. 4⭐️
This is book two of 'The Cushing-Nevada Chronicles' that follow Easy Nevada, an American treasure hunter, and Candice Cushing, a British archaeologist, who are searching for a collection of crystal skulls located in northern Africa. This book starts right after book one, so it's highly recommendable that you read them in order and in a short time scope as there are a few details that, if you are like me, you won't remember. I have to warn readers that this book ends in a cliffhanger and will be continued on a new installment in 2020 but hopefully, we won't need to wait long to see where this series takes our heroines to.
I have read a few books by this author and I have to admit that her writing style might not fit everyone. Her books normally have a good dose of humour, one-liner jokes and they are big on the pop culture references. As a foreigner I got lost on a few, but nothing that Google cannot answer. However, these usual references might be annoying for other readers. This series is also heavy on the action side, which I loved, and very low on the romance. However, what lacks in romance is full of chemistry, wit, and banter. Also, the absence of love scenes makes sense as the characters are in constant movement and danger. As my fellow reviewer Lex put it, this series is a combination of Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider. If you like those, you'd surely enjoy this lesbian version of those two.
Overall, a very good lesbian adventure series full of entertainment, action and humour. 4.5 stars.
3.75* Easy Nevada, American mercenary treasure hunter, and Candice Cushing, British archeologist are still on their quest for the legendary crystal skulls. Easy have found 11 so far and the last one is rumoured to be in the lost tomb of Cleopatra. The banter and simmering sexual tension is still here in book 2. One does have to read book 1 to truly understand the characters and the scenes. It's a lesbian, self-aware Indiana Jones-like fun romp of a book. As other reviewers have mentioned, this book does end in a cliff-hanger, so be prepared. Needless to say, because I'm now thoroughly sucked into this world, I will be picking up the next book in the series.
3 stars Again, not bad but not that good. Basically the same as the previous one. I decided that my issue is more with the writing than with the "adventure-movie clips" style of the story. Apparently there's something about this author's style that rubs me the wrong way and I have no clue what exactly it is. I'll read the last book to finish what I started, but so far I'm not very impressed
4 stars. I liked this one even more than the first. The banter between Candice and Nevada is brilliant and my favorite part of the novel. Action packed! Can't wait for the third.
Loved it! Another fast-paced, action-packed, fun-filled adventure with Easy and Candice. I still have a super crush on Easy... Be still my beating heart! I can but pray that this series gets made into a movie one day, because its amazing! Tomb Raider and Indiana Jones, but with lesbians! And Easy's badass confidence and jokes, of course. Can't wait to get stuck into book 3!
I just finished Candace Cushing and the Lost Tomb of Cleopatra by Georgette Kaplan. This episode of Candace Cushing and Easy Nevada is thrilling. The pair is a multi-racial team; Nevada is a blue-eyed, white American, in complementary contrast to Candace, who is a brown-skinned Brit, with Dinka roots. *Spoiler* We get to meet Candace's grandfather, who is one of the coolest supporting characters I'd love to spend time with, just sitting and chatting.
Candace is the "straight person" to Nevada's comic contribution of flirty one-liners. There are serious parts to this story too, mainly because their journey takes them through South Sudan, where children are frequently made orphans due to civil wars. Also, they seem to constantly be the target of people with weapons. Even through all of this, the author keeps you laughing and, wishing that you could be Candace, romping around the desert with fearless Nevada. Candace has her moments too, as the archeological geek who just wants to explore and be amazed at the treasures to be found. She is secretly aware of Nevada's magnetism, and partnering with her is exhilarating. Nevada is treasure hunting 'purely' for the money, and she is irresistibly adorable.
As I listened to the audiobook, I thought that Abby Craden lends the perfect voices for these two characters. She is awesome at back-to-back flirty dialogue. Candace's voice is very feminine, with a scholastic British bent. Nevada's voice is very American, raspy and, somewhat, but not too deep, and who I picture as a soft, athletic butch.
Luckily, there is a third book in the Nevada/Cushing adventure that is out now because the ending for this book seemed rather unusually rushed. I think Georgette Kaplan could have handled it better because the rest of the book is fun, dangerous, exciting, and well-paced; it was hard not to stop for a break, even into the early morning hours. I almost gave it a 4.5-stars rating because of this, but having given me one of the best Nevada quote... "don't be the pineapple on my pizza", bumps it back up to five stars. Love it. I'm betting, though, that the next book will alleviate any rush to this ending. If you want a thrilling leap into lesbian fiction, join Candace Cushing and Easy Nevada.

Okay, so Kaplan can be a little hit or miss for most people, because her writing style relies heavily on incredibly fast pacing and jokes flying everywhere. But with adventures like these are right in her wheelhouse and they let her imagination just expand.
This is a continuation of a lesbian swashbuckling adventure. Imagine if Rick Connelly from The Mummy was a morally ambiguous lady who is emotionally damaged, and loves to seduce women. That's Easy Nevada, adventurer extraordinaire, lady of the foul mouth, and weirdly charming. At least to Candice Cushing, her reluctant sidekick/ nerd in crimes. Nevada and Cushing are on the hunt for more of the mythical crystal skulls, and this is the last one Nevada must acquire in order to get an immense payout from her shady boss. The search for the last skull brings Candice and Nevada all across Africa, and puts them in contact with a lot of really nasty individuals.
I love that this book did keep up the blazing speed of the last one, especially around the action scenes, but did give us enough quieter moments for character development, and relationship development. I know it's not too much of a romance, as the ladies are pretty much in peril most of the time, but they are clearly attracted to each other and they are starting to learn to care about each other. It's not very overt, but its there. Especially on Easy's part - she doesn't say anything about it in too many words, (even when she's narrating the story) but she does care about Candice and it is slowly showing in her actions.
This is not a typical lesfic series, its definitely an action adventure, without a full on romantic plotline. It has a blast with the magical archaeology/ tomb raiding tropes, and its heroine is more of an antihero. This second book is a little better than the first, and I can't wait to see what shenanigans Candice and Easy get up to next.
I received this ARC from Ylva Publishing in exchange for my honest review.
Unfortunately this is not my kind of story. I had to stop reading. I had to "suspend my disbelief " a bit more than I like. If you like detailed action scenes, spirituality, bizarre characters weird happening and very little romance....you may enjoy it.
Oh. My. God. I am totally loving this series. Fasten your seat belts, dear readers, and keep your hands inside the vehicle at all times - this is another wild ride.
With this being the second in the Cushing and Nevada Chronicles I would strongly recommend you read Easy Nevada and the Pyramid's Curse first as it sets the stage. As a standalone, the book would probably work since the story is focused on the hunt for Cleopatra's tomb; but, why deny yourself the fun of reading the first book.
Picking up from the last book, Easy and Candice have escaped the Khasmin (for now) and are following the clues to find Cleopatra's Lost Tomb somewhere in the Sahara Desert (and the damned Khasmin aren't far behind). There's tons of action and adventure with lots of gun fights, daring escapes and dastardly deeds. I think I enjoyed the pacing in this one more than the first where they seemed to spend a bit too much time running around (and falling through floors) in the Pyramid.
In this episode, Easy and Candice are in a race to find the twelfth skull and they never really get a chance to catch their breath as they tumble from one misadventure to the next. There's a frenetic energy in the book - both in the situations as well the characters - and lots of humour to keep a grin firmly planted on your face. As in the first book, Easy may not always have a plan, but she always has a comeback and Candice is more than capable of giving as good as she gets in the war of words. There's an easy camaraderie building between the two as they learn to rely on each other. Or maybe it's just Stockholm Syndrome - regardless, there's a great chemistry between the two and Ms. Kaplan is continuing to expand the characters and motivations as the story progresses.
As the title suggests, this book focuses more on Candice as she struggles to come to terms with being dragged from her staid and scholarly excavation of a pyramid in Sudan to a breakneck race to find a mysterious treasure while being pursued by a rabidly determined group of terrorists. Candice comes more into her own as she's less of a passive participant and taking a more active role in the hunt as well as in her dealings with Easy.
I have absolutely no idea how much complete bullshit artistic licence Ms. Kaplan is taking with archaeology and history - and I really don't give a damn. This is a Saturday afternoon matinee and Ms. Kaplan weaves such a charming and entertaining tale that my belief isn't suspended as much as checked at the door. Crazy- ass, kick-ass, bad-ass ... this book has it all and I want more. Especially as there's enough hints and foreshadowing for the next book - and damnit, I want to know what the skulls are for (and where did they come from).
Unlike the fist book in the series, this one ends with a bit of a cliffhanger (noooooo ... hating you, Ms. Kaplan) and the promise of the next book to be published in 2020 (loving you, Ms Kaplan if it is early 2020). Needless to say, I will be stalking the Ylva website for the next 12 months or so. Don't let that deter you from starting (or continuing) the series. It's a riot and a hell of a lot of fun.
Number one, I should have read the first book from this series “ The Cushing-Nevada Chronicles” because for the life of me I couldn’t figure out what the hell was going on. The story kept jumping from one scene to another without some clear guidelines. One minute Nevada’s on a hotel rooftop delivering stolen goods she acquired to some hotel guy and then playing tennis with him, on the roof. Next thing I knew I was now in some tent in the desert reading about some guy being haunted by the ‘spirit world’ and then I landed in the desert with Nevada and Candice driving around the desert in a tank. I know (because I looked) others have read and very much enjoyed this book. I’m not doubting them because I’ve had the pleasure of reading other works by Ms Kaplan and thought they were very nice reads. So I’ll keep waiting for her next book. ARC via Ylva Publishing
It sucks that these people just keep doing all they can to kill’em and/or keep them apart... but I do appreciate the adventure they’re on. It’s entertaining for sure and it’s nice to see Candice holding her own in this book.
The glowing skull intrigues me and I wonder if the third book has a touch of fantasy in it. Regardless, I’m just eager for Easy to find her way to Candice!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This, like the first Easy Nevada book, was a rollicking burst of fun mixed with a side dish of danger. So much better than Indiana Jones, the pace just never lets up! I loved the many pop culture references, Easy's sarcastic sense of humour, and the way she and Candice mesh together better with every hurdle thrown at them. I remember reading about crystal skulls back in the eighties, wondering if they were real, and what they might really be. (Religious tokens, or 'real' skulls that belong to beings we'll never understand?) I kept that sense of wonder throughout, and I'm still no closer to a decision on that than I was before.
As before, I felt their surroundings, I'm sure I tasted the dry sand as they walked through that sandstorm. I admit I was a little pissed off when the bottle of Corona got smashed! You just don't waste beer, Dude!
Candice and Nevada head out in search of an artefact from the tomb of Cleopatra. It isn’t the easiest mission for them, especially given their different in work ethic, and all the obstacles in their way but that doesn’t stop them from having an action-packed epic adventure.
Having not read the first book in this series, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was very excited to join Candice and Nevada on their adventure and loved the comedy presence in the narrative. Although it is part of a series, it still works well as a standalone story, and worked well. It was exciting and provided an amazing adventure for the reader to get caught up in. The humour injected into the story via the characters also made it something different, and added to the thrill of the chase. It was totally bonkers, all they were encountering and going through but that was what made it such an epic read. Being thrown into an adventure like this was just fun!
It got a little complicated at times, so you really needed to concentrate on what was going on, but that didn’t make it any less enjoyable.
Candice and Nevada, where to start? Polar opposites. A daredevil and an anxious, do things by the book type and yet here they are thrown together, and with amazing comedic chemistry. Nevada provides a lot of comic relief, always joking, and taking risks even when facing death, and then Candice balances her with a bit more of a sensible approach. She really feeds Nevada’s spirit and they both wind each other up, as the same time as protecting each other and being loyal. It was a really special and dynamic relationship.
Why would you end the story like that? 😭 now i have to wait until book 3 is out :(
Great story, great action adventure treasure hunting with humour along the way! And i really like it. I think sum it all up in one sentence. 😐 Now.. waiting for book 3!!
Easy is her wise-cracking self, the female Indiana Jones, only better. Candice is more than just a foil in this sequel, which is wonderful. She definitely comes into her own during this wild adventure. She’s the academic adventurer now, and no longer so conservative and prissy although she is still thoughtful. And Usama is a great character, too. He’s a perfect sidekick for the women, and creating him as Candice’s grandfather allows Kaplan to provide more insight into Candice and the people and land who shaped her.
Like the previous novel, there is over-the-top action and banter, as well as danger and death-defying stunts. There were some familiar characters showing up and Kaplan drew some lines between them all, but my memory isn’t that great so I need to go back and reread the first book.
If you want a fun adventure book with a little romance tossed in, lots of danger and silliness, and escapades galore, then read this. If you want a serious literary novel, look somewhere else. This is just plain fun!
I adore the way Georgette Kaplan writes. Her style is fast, witty and laced with humor and sarcasm. I know her writing can be a bit hit or miss with some readers but I just love it. Her latest book takes us back to the desert for a continuation of her The Cushing-Nevada Chronicles. If you have not read Easy Nevada and the Pyramid’s Curse, you definitely want to start there before picking this one up. This is not a sequel you can just jump into.
Easy Nevada and Candice Cushing reunite for an epic adventure full of sexual tension and more danger than an Indiana Jones could ever handle. Our two badass ladies are headed to Sudan to acquire the final skull of the Greek Gods for an unhinged billionaire who wants all the power his money and influence can buy.
As wild as this book is, we find tiny pockets of downtime where Candice and Easy begin to drop their walls around each other. Kaplan slowed the story down just enough to give the reader a hint of romance and focus on character development. You see behind Easy’s mask of deflection and wit. You see why she uses her humor to avoid dealing with insurmountable pain. Her loyalty to Candace in the face of epic danger endures you to her. Candace finds that as much as she misses what her life was like before Easy, she is drawn to the woman and this epic adventure she has been thrust into. A tiny seed of love has been planted in book two.
This series is unlike anything you have read in lesfic before. It's smart, it's zany, it's violent and you just cannot stop reading. I did not want it to end! Such a fabulous read and I cannot wait for the next one in this series. 4.25 stars 4.25 stars
Another exciting adventure with Candice and Nevada through the Sahara searching for Cleopatra's tomb and the treasure therein of course they must deal with crocodiles, many baddies with guns, bazooka, and bombs, along with some sandstorms, and things exploding all around (But don't worry we meet gramps in this installment to help out as well).
Another brilliant read. This series is amazing. This book takes you out of the world you're in and transports you on an adventure with laughs along the way. What a cliffhanger to end it on. Can't wait for the next installment.
Maybe reading the two back to back wasn't a good idea because I developed a severe case of obstacle fatigue. By the end of the book I really did not give one single rat's arse if they found the magical skull thingy or not.
