They prowl the playground at night, looking for food, for anything to sink their teeth into. They are unlike any creature known to science. They have no sense of sympathy, no social structure. They kill and they eat. And they are hungry.
When Joe, recently paroled from prison, starts a new job as a park groundskeeper, he gets more than he bargained for. Now, Joe is trapped in a fight for survival with an enemy more bizarre and terrifying than he could have ever imagined.
A short tale of supernatural horror from D.W. Nathan.
D.W. Nathan is both a writer and full-time painter and illustrator. He studied art at Monmouth University and Stockton University, the latter from which he earned his degree. A former concept artist for Disney Interactive, D.W. has produced artwork for a number of high profile franchises such as Star Wars, the Avengers and Kingdom Hearts. Joe is a new member of the park cleaning staff. His fellow colleagues are quite friendly but there are strange creatures hunting in the park at night. What are they and why is Joe engaged to join the team? It's a scary read about some animal and human monsters in a park. Recommended!
The cool air felt good on his skin. Night air. Fresh air. Free air. The sky twinkle with the tapestry of stars. Park Closes at Dusk by D.W. Nathan
Ohh..this is a scary little creeper of a short story! AND it is free on Kindle!
Also..how cool is the title?
So Joe, (it is always the Joe's isn't it?) is working late at the park. Just an average evening's work for our dear Joe. Except what he sees and hears in the park that night is anything but average. And it might cost Joe..everything!
Cue creepy music.
This was a quick read..under 30 minutes..gory, violent and everything I thought I didn't like. But since it's about Joe, I liked it! And thank you Rottgrl for making me aware of it!
Go check it out horror fans! You will never look at parks the same way again.
An excellent, action-filled short story that’s well written and leaves you wanting more! This is a creepy little story that successfully mixes the mundane of the workday with the macabre of the unknown and frightening. The reader is reminded that there are all kinds of monsters roaming this planet, some more easy to identify than others. Good stuff!
Have you ever wondered why the park always closes at dusk? And there's a police officer that sweeps to make sure everyone is out by dark? This book gives you an idea of why.
Honestly, I didn't remember what this story was about when I actually read it. There were a few misdirections that led me to believe the monster would be human. Man, was I wrong!
This is a quick little read that will make sure you never, ever want to be in a park after dark.
While I normally read psychological thrillers, I harbor a strong interest in the horrible and unexplained things out there, some we don't even know about...yet! This short story is one of those that terrifies you yet keeps you pinned to the pages waiting to discover the ending! Great short!
