When a Woman Mysteriously Disappears From an Orange Grove Mansion, Daisy Gumm, Sam and the Ever Crotchety Lou Prophet, Launch A Search in Exercised Spirits, a Cozy Historical Mystery by Alice Duncan
--1926, Pasadena, California—
Already irked about having to participate in an exercise class with some church chums, Daisy is horrified when her beloved Aunt Vi, the greatest cook in Pasadena, goes missing from her place of employment--Mrs. Pinkerton’s mansion in Orange Grove.
Daisy, Sam and Lou Prophet launch a search, with some help from Mrs. Jackson, a real live Voodoo mambo from New Orleans, who is at present living in Altadena.
In the meantime, food preparation in the Gumm/Majesty/Rotondo households takes a severe downturn. Lou Prophet lends a hand, and the family finds themselves choking down some concoctions they never even knew existed.
But it's going to take more than some clever sleuthing from Daisy, a peg-legged man on a horse and some clever roping to bring Aunt Vi home.
From the Publisher: The Daisy Gumm Majesty Cozy Mystery Series is a light-hearted mystery in a historical setting. There are no explicit sexual scenes and minimal cursing (Lou Prophet can be a little course) and will be enjoyed by readers who appreciate clean and wholesome reads.
Exercise Spirits (A Daisy Gumm Majesty Mystery, Book 16) (34 chapters) — Alice Duncan Aug. 10-12, 2021
Daisy has her hands full in this one: Lucy wants her to lead an exercise class, and her beloved Aunt Vi has gone missing. Also, Miss Betsy Powell can’t break her string of bad luck with awful men, as another one presents himself in this book. Which leads Daisy to wonder if they are all connected. (Well, not Lucy’s exercise scheme.)
I read this a little while ago, but I don’t believe there are any murders in this one, just a missing aunt. Sam, Harold, and Mr. Lou Prophet are all a part of the story. This is pretty much the same formula as the previous books, but the author is trying to stay mostly to the plot.
Not as much 1920’s scenery decorating, which I sort of miss. It’s nice reading about what life was like during that period.
Otherwise, a decent read.
Editing is still sometimes shaky, but I really love independent writers, so I can look the other way when a good series is in hand.
1925 is a rough year for our heroine Daisy Gumm Majesty. After recovering from multiple attempts on her life she and her family are shocked to the core when her beloved Aunt Vi is kidnapped right out of Mrs. Pinkerton’s kitchen! The whole family is crushed and scared, how will they get Vi back? Sam calls upon friends and his police officers and a rescue mission is underway. Everything comes to a head in the wackiest way at a seance but what else can we expect from Pasadena’s premier spiritualist medium Daisy Gumm Majesty. This book gives a good dose of quirky fun that I have come to expect and enjoy from the series. There are some interesting tidbits of real life with references to mobster Lucky Luciano. A flat out fun read from beginning to end. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.
i won this really good ebook, thank you alice duncan
i love the daisy series in pasadena. she is still not married but her soon to be husband bought the bungalow across the street from her parents where she lives with her aunt vi who does the cooking
the aunt was kidnapped so she could cook for the bad people who took her
daisy and sam figured out who had her and she was able to escape by putting things in the food to make the people sick
it was good and i enjoyed it. im looking forward to the next book where daisy will get married

Daisy's Aunt Vi has vanished, taken right from Mrs. Pinkerton's kitchen, in broad daylight. Where has she gone? Who could have taken her and why? How will the extended Gumm family survive without the only family member who can cook? Organized crime has come to Pasadena, but the local recruits are a rather bumbling if still deadly lot. How is Daisy's inadvertent nemesis Betsy Powell mixed up with The Mob? Daisy teams up with Sam, Lou Prophet, and even Aunt Vi herself, to solve a kidnapping that hits too close to home. Another solid entry into one of my favorite cozy mystery series.
As if Daisy's life was busy enough her friend Lucy decides that the women from their church decides that they should hold an exercise class - and by they she means Daisy, who is decidedly unimpressed. Though this quickly becomes a minor consideration in Daisy's life when her Aunt Vi goes missing. Follow along as Daisy, Sam and others try to rescue Vi. I received a free copy of this ebook from ebook discovery. This is my honest and freely given review.
Think I am pretty much over this series. Most of the characters really annoy me including Daisy with her constant crying and grumpiness - not that her grumps are unwarranted as everyone around her always seems to be impatient, unsympathetic & grumpy themselves. And are Sam & Daisy ever going to get married? I think they have been engaged for 3 years
Alice Duncan writes cozy mysteries with engaging characters you enjoy getting to know. I particularly like that Daisy doesn't follow the well sworn cozy mystery patterns but has her own personality. In this episode she must find the person who has kidnapped her Aunt Vi. Go for it, Daisy!
What a wonderful adventure in every book. Daisy takes the readers straight into each story and makes them apart of it. I love CV the entire series and am always watching for the next one to release.
I've read all the Daisy Gumm Majesty mysteries and I love them all. The characters are not only well-drawn, but they evolve as well from episode to episode. Each book is a combination of mystery, romance, humor, and Pasadena history, all cozy and warm.
Another winner from Alice Duncan. When Daisy's Aunt Vi is kidnapped, Daisy, Sam, and friends band together to rescue her. This charming series is set in 1925 in Pasadena, California.
Always a good read. I have enjoyed this series and missed it mightily during this awful pandemic. I also enjoy the authors' other series. Maybe I was born in the wrong time. Although, my mother WAS born in 1921. Who knows...
Excellent, again. I'm reading the whole series for the second time. The recent addition of the old reprobate, Mr. Lou Prophet, bounty hunter, is a fine addition to the family.
Love this series! I will tell all of my friends about this series. It is funny, sad, with a little mystery.Well written and I love that it takes place in the 1920's
It took me a while to get into this book. I loved the earlier books but I struggled with this one. It was good when I got two thirds of the way through it.
