This was as an engrossing read. Lady Georgiana is to marry and her brother is finding a husband for her. Mr Oliver Lowell is over in England from America and he is finding the difference in cultural expectations difficult to grasp. They meet in a number of situations and grow to like each other. Their feelings gradually develop into something deeper. However, Georgiana’s brother has arranged a marriage to another Lord. Someone Georgiana dislikes intensly. There are a number of dangerous events before Georgiana’s happy ending. I received a copy via Booksprout and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The scenes are so colorfully descriptive it's easy to interpret each scenario as they play off one another in perfect sync. Remarkable job Rose, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.

Lady Georgiana has had three seasons & still isn’t betrothed, her newly married brother the Earl of Allerton, suggests they go to London for the little season & he then chosses a suitable gentleman for Georgiana but when she meets him, she finds him rude, arrogant, and selfish. Georgiana tries to
build a regard for Lord Poole. Mr. Oliver Lowell, a wealthy financier from Boston is in London visiting his cousin & is immediately smitten with Georgiana when they meet in a bookshop.
A well written book that I enjoyed & read in a sitting. I really liked Oliver but found myself annoyed with Georgiana as I couldn’t understand why she didn’t talk to her American sister in law Alice about how Poole was treating her, then I pitied her as she seemed resigned to a life of abuse. Luckily Oliver wasn't ready to turn tail & go back to America. The pace was good & it kept my interest all the way through
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Once again Rose Pearson has provided a hit with this book. Her characters Lady Georgiana and Mr. Oliver Lowell are extremely well written. Georgiana is to marry Lord Poole per her brother. Unfortunately, Georgiana knows all to well what a cad he is and doesn't want anything to do with him. Oliver, a wealthy American visiting his cousin, finds Georgiana a wonderful woman but how does he keep her? With society's rules she would be shunned if she married and left with him. Can she go against society and seek happiness?
There are a number of events that happen during this story that will keep Georgiana from finding her HEA, but can she prevail? Totally loved this and would highly recommend.

Sweet and Clean Christmas Romance

Almost on the shelf, Lady Georgiana was unsure about her brother's decision to find her a suitable husband. She had always hoped for love, but no gentleman had yet asked to court her. Maybe her brother, the Earl of Allerton would be able to find her the perfect match.

In this sweet and clean Christmas romance, Lord Allerton means well, and his gentle sister tries to accept his decision, but her heart is just not engaged in the effort. Instead, she finds herself in a bit of a pickle. Thankfully, she also finds her forever happiness.

Disclosure: I received an ARC of this book from the author. I am voluntarily submitting my honest review.

Could Have Been a 5-Star Read

I have read a few books by this author, and I have mostly enjoyed them, so I was looking forward to this holiday offering. Honestly, this could have been a five-star read, but unfortunately, the story went sideways pretty fast when the heroine suddenly became Mary Milquetoast when she hadn't truly been like that earlier in the book.

Let me back up a little. The heroine, Lady Georgiana, is a young woman who has had a few seasons but has not yet garnered an offer of marriage. Her older brother, a relative newlywed, wants the family to go to London for the little season in hopes that she will snag a husband. She doesn't really want to go but then decides that it would be okay. Later, her brother gets the bright idea that he should just arrange a marriage for her. He promises that he will consider all the essential things. Let's just say this doesn't go too well. He brings forth the initial two candidates, and his American wife puts the kibosh on one of them immediately. The other man's character is revealed to both the heroine and her brother. He agrees that the man would not suit. In all this, the heroine had been polite but forthright with her brother about his poor attempts to make these matches for her. She didn't hesitate to state her displeasure.

But when her brother tells her he has found another one and says that the paperwork is just about set up for an official betrothal, without giving her any choice, the heroine goes along with it without batting an eyelash. Even when she meets him and finds him cold and exceedingly self-centered, she doesn't speak to her brother about it. She had no trouble doing so for the other two. Why would she have trouble with this one? The answer is: the author thought it was necessary for the plot—although I would argue that she could have actually just talked honestly with her brother at many different points and perhaps to keep the tension twisting, he could not have listened or been insistent or just stay on the path until it was evident how ill-suited this man was for a marriage to a sister he proclaims he cares about.

Instead, this heroin turned into Mary Milquetoast. I just felt continually frustrated with her as she was just seeming to meekly accept that she would have to marry this man even though she grew creasing increasingly aware that she would have a truly miserable existence if married to him. He made it clear that they would lead very separate lives (even within the walls of his estate), and he would have a mistress right away; she would only be required to interact with him quickly to provide what he wants, with no consideration for her besides giving a home, creature comforts, and a family. Seriously! The point where I just about gave up on the book was when he slapped her hard across the face while they were taking a walk, and still all she thinks about is that she must follow through with the plan no matter what, no matter how bleak her existence would be for the next 50 years of her life. Displeasing her brother and getting a reputation as a jilt was somehow far worse to her than decades of abject misery.

Ugh.

The shining light in this book was Oliver Lowell, the hero. He is newly arrived from America and cannot help but bumble his way through this very foreign society, causing his English relations no end of mortification. But he is gentle, kind, and forthright. He literally accidentally bumps into Lady Georgiana, the heroine, and not knowing all the rules, introduces himself to her, and they have a conversation. He gets to know Lady Georgianna's American sister-in-law, happy to find another American who has adjusted (but is still adjusting) to life in the ton. There's something so innocent and about him that makes him very sweet.

I think it is Oliver who kept me reading. He is just such a fantastic hero. But the heroine acting out of character (and to her own detriment) was just too much for me. Oh, and one other little quibble. I found it strange that Oliver, who is a Bostonian, would speak using English forms of words like “whilst.” Now, I don't know if back in the Regency Era Bostonians used such English terms. But no American that I know now uses some of the words that the author had Oliver say. For me, it always jolted me out of the confines of the story because no current American would ever use those terms. All in all, because of the issues with the heroine and the utter sameness of her mental lamentations repeated over and over (but an unwillingness to do anything about them), I cannot recommend this book.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

MR. LOWELL AND LADY GEORGIANA

The Home for Christmas series is stand-alone stories, and each story has different couples and revolves around life, changes, and Christmas. They are clean, endearing, and heartwarming stories—full of angst and trouble. If you read Alice’s Arranged Marriage, book one in this series by Joyce Alec, it will have the two main characters, Lord Allerton and his wife, Lady Alice Allerton. This story will be about his sister, Lady Georgiana.

Lord Allerton has been trying to help make a good match for his younger sister, Lady Georgiana, but the ton hasn’t forgotten about his financial woes, and the marriageable men with titles have stayed away, fearing a small dowry. But Lord Allerton is persistent and has several potential suitors.

Lady Georgiana is a lovely young woman but has been through several seasons without a single offer. Women need to marry well, a titled gentleman, and do their duty to manage a household, entertain, and procreate. But what about love and happiness?

Mr. Oscar Lowell, from Boston, Massachusetts in America, is in London, visiting his cousin, Lady Rutledge, married to Viscount Rutledge. While he is a man of financial means, he isn’t a titled English man. His dear cousin is beside herself with all his faux pas in social circles—England and America have different rules and standards.

The plot will have Lady Georgiana and Mr. Lowell meeting by chance at a book store on a rainy day. He will start up a conversation, asking questions, and breaking etiquette, but Lady Georgiana is polite and even mentions to him that her sister-in-law, Lady Allerton, is also from America. And thus begins the journey of these two, the multiple breaches in etiquette, rules, and protocol—but it is two people who develop a connection.

The story is the ups and downs of the possible gentleman to become a husband to Lady Georgiana. One will be ruled out immediately, the next one definitely doesn’t suit, and the third one is arranged by Lord Allerton, knowing that Lord Poole will be a good man—but is he? Lady Georgiana is unhappy, and yet, she feels she must capitulate to her brother's wishes and choice in spouses. What will her life be like? Why can’t Mr. Lowell be a titled gentleman? There is a chemistry between Mr. Lowell and Lady Georgiana, and yet, they both are caught between obligations and countries. Lord Poole has no feelings for her, just needs a wife to give him heirs.

“You require a good home, a husband, and a family. That is what every young lady requires, Lady Georgiana. And that is precisely what I intend to provide for you. If there is anything more you wish, that is nothing more than a preference, and thus, is not something I am obliged to give you.” –Lord Poole

The story has the good, the bad, and the ugly, and is a journey of choices. Must Lady Georgiana follow the rules of English society, or can she follow her heart? Mr. Lowell came to England for a visit, and must return to America and the business he runs for his father—but how can he walk away from Lady Georgiana when he has fallen in love with her? The story has mystery, suspense, danger, and sinister deeds—but in the end, it does have a happily ever after conclusion. Sometimes, happiness is found where you least expect it.

“But I do not regret it; he told himself, firmly. For the rest of my life, I will never regret stealing a Christmas kiss from Lady Georgiana. It was a magical moment, thanks to the mistletoe.” –Mr. Lowell

Mistletoe Magic: A Regency Romance is another sweet book by Rose Pearson.
Lady Georgiana has been betrothed to a cad, Lord Poole, by her brother, the Earl of Allerton. Her brother thinks he is doing the right thing. This remains to be seen! Only Georgiana knows how dreadful Lord Poole can be.
Mr. Oliver Lowell is a wealthy American, visiting his cousin. He is a kind man but receives some cuts and cold shoulders due to his non-understanding of Ton societal rules. He meets Lady Georgiana and is intrigued. However, how can they ever court?

As is the usual case with Ms. Pearson's books, I enjoyed the novel. The characters were nicely written and fleshed out. Their actions made sense within the context of the book. The book flowed well and was understandable. Attention was paid to proper Regency verbiage and societal mores. It is a 'clean' read and has a lovely Happily Ever After.

Just a few technical things jumped out at me. I do not understand the need for the word "otherwise" in the very first sentence of the book. "otherwise" than what? Nothing has been established at this point. It's confusing and really needs to be omitted from the sentence.

Also, there seems to be a lot of 'grinning' and 'stammering'. Too much, I think, to make it exceptional writing. I've noticed a trend lately with authors using 'grin', 'grinned', and 'grinning' much too much in their novels. The repetition really starts to stand out. I don't understand why editors don't catch this sort of technical problem.

Other than that, it is a good, interesting read with a sweet HEA.

Rose Pearson has many really good clean and sweet Regency Romance novels out. This one is no exception.

Lady Georgiana longs for a marriage with someone she can love and who can love her. Her brother, Lord Allerton, wishes to see her settled with a suitable husband who will take care of her.

Mr. Oliver Lowell is visiting his cousin in London and meets Lady Georgiana in a bookshop. Mr. Lowell, still learning London society, introduces himself to Lady Georgiana. Lady Georgiana, knowing Mr. Lowell has made an error in regards to what is proper, realizes that he is an American like her new sister-in-law and takes pity on Mr. Lowell and talks to him.

Lady Georgiana and Mr. Lowell meet at several different engagements throughout the coming weeks and develop a friendship and a growing regard for one another. All the while, Georgiana's brother has been searching for Georgiana a suitable husband. He believes he has found one when he introduces Georgiana to Lord Poole.

Georgiana is not immediately taken with Lord Poole as he emits an arrogance and disdain for her through his actions. When he learns of her friendship with Mr. Lowell, Lord Poole threatens Georgiana.

Can Georgiana get out of the agreement that her brother has developed with Lord Poole regarding her hand in marriage? And what of Mr. Lowell?

Lady Georgiana's brother, the Earl of Allerton, decides that he will find a husband for her since she has not had any favorable matches yet and could very well end up a spinster. While she would like to marry someone who can love her and whom she can love, Lord Allerton just wants to find someone to take care of her.

When Georgiana and her brother take shelter in a bookstore from an impending storm, she meets a wealthy businessman from America, Mr. Oliver Lowell, who was visiting his cousin. Although he is unfamiliar with the strict social rules of the Ton and introduces himself to her, his kindness and gentility are easily recognized. Oliver and Georgiana run into each other on a number of occasions thereafter and develop a growing friendship.

Lord Allerton has selected Lord Poole as his sister’s betrothed, but the man is very cold and arrogant toward Georgiana and his expectations for their marriage are not what Georgiana wants. When Oliver is close to returning home, Georgiana doesn’t want him out of her life, but she also must think about the scandal if she goes with him. What will she decide is most important? And will Lord Poole allow her the option of refusing him?

I just love this author’s books! They are always so well written, with wonderful characters that come alive on the pages! How will this love story work out? Will Georgiana’s choices put her in danger? Grab your copy and find out what happens!

Mistletoe Magic was a clean, sweet Christmas romance. The characters were well developed and very sweet. Mr. Oliver Lowell was from Boston and was in London visiting his cousin and her husband for the holidays. He was trying to learn all the rules of polite society but having a hard time knowing them all. When he encounters Lady Georgiana in a bookstore, he introduces himself not aware of the rules for introductions. Lady Georgiana was surprised at Oliver’s behavior but since her new sister in law came from America, she was aware of the differences and the difficulties knowing all the proper etiquette. She hadn’t made a match in her previous Seasons so her brother, the Earl of Allerton, is searching for a gentleman for her. He comes to an agreement with Lord Poole, but as Georgiana learns more of what Lord Poole’s marriage expectations are, she becomes worried and frightened. Oliver and Georgiana keep encountering each other and their attraction to each other grows stronger. But can Georgiana cry off from her engagement and cause such a scandal? This was a wonderful holiday story and I couldn’t put it down until the end.

Wonderful second Regency story in the Home for Christmas series.

This is the first story by Rose Pearson I believe I have read, and I loved it. It was fun to revisit the main characters from the first book in this series as well as the the sister of the Earl, in the first book, and his wife. There are fun balls to attend, more than an American businessman was used to. He came to visit his American cousin and her Viscount husband and met a Lady, the sister of the Earl, in a bookstore in London, whom he found fascinating. He discovers her sister in law is also an American married to the Earl. Their story is the first book in this series. As her brother seeks to find her a good match, because in three seasons she hasn't had one long-term suitor. She on the other hand wants to find her own match.
The Earl finds two he thinks are good for his sister, with good pedigree and wealth. The first one she is appalled by and the second isn't much better. But this is everything begins to go astray.
You must read this to find out all the ins and outs of London society, the good and the bad, the ugly, and still find romance can still be alive and wonderful in stuffy old London.

Georgiana has given up on finding a gentleman to love, after several seasons without as much as one offer she knows there is no hope for her. When her brother informs her they are going to London for the Winter Season and that he will find the perfect husband for her she has many doubts. She feels a little better when her sister-in-law tells her she will have an active hand in the choosing. when a snowstorm strikes she and brother are forced to take shelter in a bookstore, it is here she meets Oliver Lowell, an Americain in London to visit his cousin. Now Oliver may not be the polished man of London society but he still is very nice but not husband material. After two terrible picks, her brother offers up a third that his wife also believes will make a good husband. Georgiana finds him rather cold but decides she must get to know him, unfortunately, he only gets worst. When she finally tries to call off any chance of marriage to Lord Poole he abducts her. Is Christmas going to be missed this year or will the day bring dreams to come true?

Brothers know best

I love anything by rose Pearson and although this won’t land in my top ten I still enjoyed it. And I was so glad Mr Lowell got his happy ever after. It was a cute story but it left me with questions such as what became of the Earl of Pembrokeshire was he the cad we were led to believe and if so how do we know this? If the Earl of Poole was such a stickler propriety why was he willing to marry Georgiana when there was scandal attached to her brother Lord Allerton? Just why did Lord Allerton need to marry for money, what was the scandal? I felt that the epilogue was better suited to have been chapter thirteen and the epilogue should have taken place the following Christmas. As with anything by rose Pearson I fully recommend Mistletoe Magic. It has a little bit of everything a misguided brother, odious suitors, kidnapping, somewhat of an other woman, an underdog Hero you can’t help but cheer for, a heroine deserving of true love and of course a healthy dose of romance.

With family like that, who needs enemies?
Georgiana’s brother claimed he was going to pick the best husband for her, but did he let her get to know the man so she could decide for herself before he was pushing her to the alter? No. His sense of judgement was horrible! You’d think after he failed with the first two picks that he would have learned, but no, not him, or his wife. Who thinks a man who come off as cold and aloof would be a good life partner?!!
Georgiana, I was not her biggest fan either. She let her brother steamroll right over her. She should have demanded being courted by any pick he made.
Oliver, while he was a nice man, he was also a very silly man at times. He spent an awful lot of time putting Georgiana up on a pedestal, when he barely knew her. I was waiting for him to give her some sort of sainthood.
The last chapter, and epilogue were the best part of this story. I do wish women in historical novels weren’t so very weepy.

Another enjoyable read by Rose Pearson. This particular story takes the reader into the lives of Georgiana, who has been raised in traditional English (British) ways and Mr. Oliver Lowell who comes from the "new world" of America. Georgiana, for several reasons, is still single and considered almost on the shelf! Her brother, Earl of Allerton, is seeking a decent match for her. However, Lord Poole is a rather nefarious person with a private life that society does not see. Georgiana and Oliver keep meeting each other in the most unlikely of places. When it appears that Oliver must return to America, they both realize that they have feelings for each other. How can this possibly play out since Georgiana is promised to Lord Poole? A gripping story that will keep you turning the pages into the night. A clean, sweet read.
I received an ARC copy of the book. This is my voluntary, honest and completely personal review.

Good overall story but needs an editor...

This is the first book I'm reading by this author and I enjoyed the overall story; however, as an editor/proofreader I constantly tripped over the high number of errors: more than 8 per Chapter in these 12 Chapters. Correct conjugation of the verb shall/will is entirely unknown by this author with 75 examples of the error, incorrect use of who/whom at 4, and the archaic word 'mayhap' from the 16th century used 15 times. Surprisingly, there are no other typos.

There are many readers who give this author's works high praise, so they probably don't know the difference or overlook this extremely long list of errors that I'm certain are not unique to this one book. I generally read 1 to 2 books daily and I have 12 other free books by this author in my vast Kindle library. In reading any more of Rose Pearson's books, I'll need to overlook these kind of errors and read for the pure enjoyment of the story.

Five stars for this sweet, clean, romance! I enjoyed the twists and turns in this regency tale. Even more so, the blunders and “funnies” of the American, Mr. Lowell. It was fun to watch him stumble along, trying desperately to learn all the rules of polite English society. And then there was the main sweetheart, Lady Georgiana. Such a love! I always take delight in seeing how the principal character falls into trouble and then how she escapes. By the end of the first chapter, I was pulling for Lady Georgiana. I was intrigued as her woes multiplied, wondering how she would escape. Of course, there was a nasty, horrible villain. These are the ingredients of a good Rose Pearson novel! There is a rescue, usually slow in coming. The wondering kept me on tenterhooks for many chapters. It was a pleasure to bury myself in this story for hours!

Lady Georgina and Mr Lowell’s story is lovely and gentle. Lord Allerton, Lady Georgina’s brother fumbles to make a good match for his sister under the ton’s censure of his own marriage to an American heiress. When Lady Georgina is betrothed to Lord Poole, she finds his character somewhat superior and dismissive. Having accidentally meeting Mr Lowell, an American visiting family, while escaping from a thunderstorm, Lady Georgina now has a comparison of how a man of character, albeit not one of the ton. Lord Poole’s manner turns quite threatening, when he senses he may now get what he was promised. Intricate story. Thoroughly enjoyable til the end!

A chance meeting in a bookstore.
Georgiana is to have another season in the Ton the only difference is this year her brother is going to find her a match and she is very fearful of who he will choose. He finds Lord Poole not a great choice either. On the other hand, Oliver Lowell has made a few wrong moves but he and Georgiana still grow close. Now the only question is will there be a Christmas miracle? Loved this sweet story, poor Oliver he tried so hard but what the English think is proper is no so for an American. The characters were great with Poole and Northcott were perfect snakes in the grass. For a holiday treat this is the book to pick up. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

He does find her a man that may be suitable, but Georgiana feels that her future will be very bleak indeed. Oliver Lowell ends up being the knight in shining armor. I absolutely loved this sweet romance! Georgiana Allerton was almost considered to be on the shelf. Her brother Lord Allerton has decided it was up to him to find someone for her to marry. With the help of his wife he thought he had found the perfect person in Lord Poole. Unknowing of his mean streak he accepted Lord Poole’s offer to wed his sister. When Georgiana realizes how cruel he was would she cry off or marry him. He heart belonged to Mr. Lowell but he was only in England for a short time before he had to return to Boston. Would she decide to follow her heart or do what was expected of her...

Another enjoyable read by Rose Pearson. Set in the Regency period, the story follows Georgiana's trials to her happily ever after. Having had two season already and fearing she'll end up on the shelf, she agrees to let her brother help with finding her a suitable husband. But the road to hell (figuratively) is strewn with good intentions... What appears to be a suitable match is in reality a nightmare-in-the-making with Georgiana. Not to mention the appearance of Oliver, an American, who finds his way in Georgiana's heart. Who will she choose? Will she follow her heart or is she going to cave into society's demands?
A sweet story, full of twists, perfect for the Christmas season.

A well written enjoyable Regency Romance. Georgina's brother has arranged her marriage to Lord Poole. When she gets to know him she realises that not only can she never feel anything for him but that he is a mean cruel man who expects her to allow him to lead his own life while she is kept in his estate simply to provide an heir. Then she meets Mr Oliver Lowell a wealthy financier from Boston who totally steals her heart. If she cries off from her betrothal the scandal will be enormous. Will she be able to find a way out of the marriage especially as even more of Lord Pooles cruelty becomes obvious.

If you read a title and think that this book is something magical, you are misunderstanding. This book is a historical romance with a christmas theme. Anyway I don't despise its title because I enjoy reading the book so much. If this book is a modern, I think Lady Giorgiana and Mr.Lowell's story is like a friend to lover romance. I have struggle a bit when Lady Giorgiana think she must weds to Lord Poole but I try to understand her thinking method and I think it is understandable and acceptable. So I decide to give the book 5 stars.

Lady Georgiana is betrothed by her brother’s choice. Georgiana finds Lord Poole selfish and rude, but she tries to follow her brother’s arrangement for her. Mr. Oliver Lowell is a wealthy financier from Boston and he and Georgiana are attracted to each other – but not a “suitable” match for her. When Lord Poole sees how the two are attracted to each other, he threatens her and even adds blackmail to his crimes. Fear is the driving force for Georgiana. Will she be able to overcome her fear? Will anyone come to her rescue? An intriguing read from beginning to end.

Another wonderfully wrote book by Rose Pearson! Lady Georgiana was almost on the shelf and it was her last chance to find a husband, but her brother the Earl of Allerton decided he would find a husband for her. She was thankful for him and Lady Allerton for all they have done for her so she agreed that he could find her a suitable husband. There was some twist and turns and surprises in this story which made for a very enjoyable read. I recommend this book especially if you read the book about Lord Allerton and Lady Allerton's betrothal and marriage, another great read indeed!

A sweet Christmas romance with a kiss under the mistletoe for Lady Georgiana, the sister of an Earl, and an untitled American , Oliver Lowell, visiting his cousin in England. The two meet at a shop in town, and are instantly attracted but know there is no future there as he will soon return to American and her brother is seeking to make a match for her with a nobleman. Her brother indeed does arrange a betrothal for her, but the man ends up to be not at all as her brother seems to believe. Poor sweet Georgiana, engaged to an evil tyrant, while the man she loves prepares to return to America.

Rose thinks she’ll never marry but her brother promises to find a perfect husband that will love her. They go to London and get stranded in a book store and she meets Oliver Lowell for America. She and Oliver hit is off but bet her brother wants her to marry a nobleman. After searching he finds Lord Poole and they get betrothed. She’s not thrilled but her brother seems to thinks he’s the one so she tries to get to know him. He’s as arrogant as she thought and finds that she’s more attracted to Oliver but can’t have him. After things happen with Lord Poole will she choose her heart?

This isn't a sweet Christmas story because it has physical violence.

The character's needed to be flushed out more. I felt we only skimmed the top from the main to secondary characters.

The h at times came across as strong, then weak. I did enjoy the H because he was a fish out of water. He came from Boston to visit his English cousin. Oh, my the mistakes he made trying to figure out the ton rules and failing.

Sweet story with only kisses. I wanted to know why the footman kept going back and forth every hour 4 times.

No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, some romance and clean. Ended at 91% on my e-reader. (ljb)
