He walked into school on his first day and didn’t care what the other students thought of him.

Dark. Broody. Dangerous.

He didn’t care where I cared too much.
Then the rumors started.
He failed his senior year at his previous school. His brother committed suicide. It’s his fault.

And for one blessed week, I wasn’t the topic of discussion.

You see, I’m the daughter of a socialite who has no soul. I’m the one paying for her sins. They never let me forget where I come from, and she never stops telling me what a failure I am.

But then Colton Lawson looks at me, and unlike the other students, his dark gaze seems to see through the lies spun around me.

He starts appearing out of nowhere, fighting my battles for me only to stalk away, making me feel like I’m nothing but a nuisance.

My name is Brie Weinstock, and this is my story of how a boy walked into my hell and fought for me, even though I never expected him to.

The question is, am I strong enough to repay the favor?

This is a high school romance that deals with sensitive subjects. Adult readers only.

➽ KITTY KATS CRAZY ABOUT BOOKS

'NOT MY HERO:' Is a full length romance novel by Michele Heard. Spoken in 'dual perspectives.'

I love how this author has no fear, she'll step where many authors are too afraid to go, she dives in and tackles such sensitive subjects, always done so beautifully and the topic in this book was no different. I wasn't prepared for this, gut-wrenching rawness had my emotions spiralling out of control. This book wrung every little emotion out of me it possibly could until I was left dry. I read this from front to back in record speed, I couldn't put it down, I didn't want it to end, this was such a sad but beautiful journey.

Brie Weinstock's self esteem had been pretty much obliterated by her unhinged socialite mother, throw in past and present bullies and its a wonder Brie was standing at all. Piece by piece they were stealing the very air she was breathing, breaking her down until there was literally nothing left. Her journey was heartbreaking and not for the faint of heart. It's right in your face with nowhere to hide.

1q

Until a new boy rocks up to school and changes Brie's life forever. She had him pegged wrong from the start, with his piercings and his don't give a f#ck attitude she thought he'd be just like everyone else at her school and join the ranks with their bullying ways. But this boy had a heart of gold and he wasn't prepared to stand around watching boys pick on a defenceless girl, she wrung emotions out of him which he'd struggled to repress.

Colton Lawson blames himself for his brother's death, Brie reminds her of him with her timidness and he decides to jump in and save the lost girl before it's too late. Neither realising that they both need saving.

Oh how I loved Colton, he stole my heart from the get go, from his little motivational quotes to his beautiful protective sole, these two were just perfect for each other.

This book was just so freaking perfect. I cannot say enough good things about it. I loved every single page, every single word.

From the story to the theme, characters and writing style, this book was utter perfection. I might have cried a time or two.

This might be like one of my favorite reads of 2020. I don't why this happens but I always find my favorite books of the year right at the end of the year. The whole year I keep looking for the gems that will be the highlight of my year and right at the end I'll find them. Am I the only one to whom that happens?

With that said I'll just end this by saying I LOVED THIS BOOK SO MUCH (in case that wasn't already apparent).

HE WAS NOT HER HERO BECAUSE SHE WAS HER OWN HERO.
Colton and Brie's story broke my heart. Two broken character calling each other for help, their souls were bound to be together from the start.

We met Brie's mother in the Trinity Academy Series, let me tell you I hated her. When I first found out she was going to be Brie's mother I had high hopes she would finally redeem herself. You see, I'm a firm believer in second chances, everyone deserves one just not with the person they wronged. They deserve to be redeemed with another person. Let me tell you, Serena was not redeemed. She was cruel and honestly I don't think I've ever met a character I hated more. Although her death was really unexpected and was not by any means executed correctly.

Colton is a survivor. Honestly Colton is a character that I know I will not see again in the Black Mountain Academy series. He was a fighter and although he did not save Brie(because she had to save herself) he did aid her when she was at her lowest. Colton was the sweetest character and I loved him with all my heart.

You can save yourself...I believe in you

Michelle Heard does it again! She has written the most fabulous, angsty, heart-wrenching romance that has such hope that shines through in the narrative. In this novel, the heroine, Brie, has been bullied both at school and at home, and when a new boy, Colton, shows up in her class, she fears he’ll be just like the rest. But he’s been through something similar in his home life, as his mother left his father and took him with her after his brother killed himself because of the abuse. Colton wants to help Brie, because he doesn’t want history to repeat itself.
Colton is persistent and caring and the slow-burn romance between him and Brie is so unbelievably sweet. I highly recommend this book if you’re looking for an unbelievably angsty story that becomes so uplifting and inspiring by the end. I loved it!

Wow, just WOW! This book doesn't hold back. The first part will hit you hard. I had a constant knot inside my stomach and sometimes I felt like I couldn't breath at all. The things that happend in the first part will break your heart. Sometimes it felt like too much. My compliment to the author: Michelle Heard managed to sail gracefully and sensitively through a storm of a heavily loaded topic.

Not My Hero unites two - no three - broken souls that help heal each other on levels only those who know are able to. Their story is incredibly touching and I'm happy Michelle Heard gave Colton, Brie and Cassie their voices so that they could tell their story.

I can't give full 5 stars because there are some tiny things here and there that prevent me from doing it. They definitely don't disturb the flow or anything of this story or make it less amazing. It's just some tweaks and perks I question or would have loved to have deeper insights or I missed things, that in my eyes would have made this story even more perfect.

Not My Hero is my first book in the Black Mountain Academy and I can't wait to see more of it. Especially finding out how other authors play out their stories and characters.

Warning.. guys this one hurt so much like I cried so bad and its been awhile since I cried for a book. Warning there are heavy bully trauma in this book. Now I never read this author and I know someone said these characters were in other books. Idk those books so I won't rate for what happened in those.

Brie... lord brie story broke my heart because she was to blame for her evil mothers issues her mother was a psycho ass bitch who would do so much crap towards her daughter I was so sick to my stomach, and you would think maybe Brie would get away from that abuse at school nope its 10x worse at the school every single day. And I honestly would fire every fucking teacher for not helping this girl. Like I was so pissed off.. Brie was getting closer and closer to just giving up.  And in comes Colt.. he spotted the rough spot Brie was in and he recognized the signs that she was close to committing suicide just like his brother did a year ago. And he was not going to let that happen to Brie even if he just met her. He stood up to her bully for her he told her stand up for yourself he never let her fend for herself anymore.. he was a all around good guy. And he does have some dark moments beside his brothers suicide.. like an abuse ex father. Both of these characters had some demons to deal with but I was so glad they had eachother. There wasn't any sex scenes only maybe a semi oral scene. Unless i forgot from last night 🤣🤣🤣

But man my heart... 💔💔💔

Heavy angst, op drama (bullies), no cheating, slight secondary character, drama, tiny sexy moments, im say virgin gal (honestly didn't say)and no manwhore

“Not My Hero” is another standalone book of the “Black Mountain Academy” series by Multiple Authors. This book is by Michelle Heard and is told in dual perspectives. Get ready to have your heart broken by Brie and Colton!!

My God! This author never manages to stun me with her books! She has somehow managed to simultaneously make me swoon , laugh and cry all in the same book. Brie’s story absolutely broke my heart and The way Colton took care of her just made me love him so much!

If you have read other books by this author , then you will know the backstory of these characters. Colton is the Brother of Brandy who was a character in her latest release COLD HEARTED HEIR and Brie is the daughter of the woman who was the villain in another one of her standalones. Brie is truly the most broken character I have ever encountered. Having a devil of a mother didn't help her case. Colt was the new guy at school. Seeing the broken girl who covered with every person who came near her , reminded him of his brother who had committed suicide only a year ago.

Brie had never had love throughout her whole life. So she had just stopped fighting. That is until the new boy arrived at school. Colton was broken Himself. Brie had intrigued him right from the moment he had first seen her. Soon pain and despair made these two grow closer. They both needed each other to survive. Brie was the angel Colton and his mother needed to survive their demons and Colton and his loving him was the exact thing brie needed to escape from the devil at home. But that did not make things easy for them. But at least they both had each other to fight those said demons!

Brie absolutely broke my heart! The things that girl went through , my god, half of the time , I was crying with her. And then there was Colton. The way that boy protected her and fought all her battles had tears springing to my eyes! I absolutely Loved this book and it was definitely one of the best books of this whole series! A definite recommendation to all the Contemporary romance lovers out there, If you are ready to bawl your eyes out all the while falling in love with this book, then don’t hesitate to one click this one!

***4 "Her hero!!!" stars***

AVAILABLE NOW

"When you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on." -Franklin D. Roosevelt

What a gut wrecking story was that!!! What a difficult ride!!!
Michelle Heard had definitely put the stake very high for the rest of the "Black Mountail Academy" stories!!!
This was my first one from this series, but i can not wait to read some more...
I'm already very curious about many people that i met in here who are starring in another authors's books!!!
I believe that this was a brilliant idea and a wonderful effort by all these wonderful authors!!!
But let me focus on Brie and Colton...

"When Colton walked into school, I was sure he'd become another bully. Instead, he turned out to be my hero."

Brie wasn't having an easy life... She was socially awkward and mistrustful, but with a very good reason... From a very early age, she was picked up by bullies... All the kind and it was devastating to witness it!!!! Imagine if you are the one living it...
Her life was a living hell and not only in school...
She just kept going with her eyes downright her feet and with a prayer on her lips that this torture will come to an end at some point...

"What's the point of life if hatred is all I'll ever know. Other kids have parents who love them. They get smiles and hugs where all I get is rage and pain. Life is just... hell."

Add to the equation, Colton, the new, broody guy that didn't give shit for anyone around him...
With one look to his tough demeanor, Brie knew that he would become one of them... One of her tormentors...
But she couldn't be more wrong about him...
Colton was so different from the boys in her school... His eyes were showing his own demons and he had lots of them...
But in an unexpected way, Colton became her lifeline... The one that was there to save her!!!

"All this time, I thought he'd become a bully, but I was wrong. So wrong. He's done nothing but be kind to me. The longer I look at him, the more it feels like he sees right into the heart of me."

Colton was carrying a lot of guilt upon his shoulders...
He had lost a loved one and he was thinking that he was the one to be blamed...
His life had rough patches as well, but when he met Brie and saw her sad eyes, he was reminded of his brother's and he decided that he would do anything to save her when he couldn't save Brady.
But who would save him???

"Maybe, just maybe, I can do for her what I couldn't do for Brady. Is it even possible to redeem myself?"

I really loved this story. I loved the connection between Colton and Brie...
I loved how easily they got around each other in no time and after a lot of effort...
I loved how they managed to save each other and reached a point that they abandoned their demons behind...
I loved Colton's notes full of encourangement and i really liked his momma...
It wasn't an easy ride... It was full of bumps and nasty things that were breaking your heart, but these two were true survivors!!!!

"Seeing someone you love with all your heart hurt so much is just... torture."

"You're the best thing that's ever happened to me."

This was a bully story, but without being the hero a bully...
But it showed us that there are crueleness out there, in unexoected places and it made me thinking!!!!
Just... don't let anyone to step upon you!!! You deserved to love and to be loved. To live as you would like to live!!!

"I'm so glad you came to Black Mountain. You've changed everything."

Ouch, ouch, ouch, fucking ouch!
That was my heart through all of this amazing book.

It wasn’t what I was expecting at all and it blew me away.

I needed tissues while reading it and not for the reason I usually need tissues while I’m reading a dark romance...ye ken?
Honestly, this was a spectacular read.

BRIE
Oh, wow. This girl...gah! I wanna hug her!
She’s bullied at school so badly that it just rips my heart to pieces.
If I’m being honest, it was entirely too fucking accurate and I felt my teenage years rear its ugly head and I was instantly back there...I was that girl again.

If you are sensitive to extreme bullying and the topic of suicide then you may wanna skip this story because it was so well written that I was in a dark place for a while reading this book.
Brie is a beautiful and kind soul and it is amazing that she survived as long as she did.

She is utterly alone. Literally has no one.
Kids at this school are cruel and in my opinion spoiled, sociopathic cretins of the highest level.
Yes, I feel passionate about this topic, lol.
And the teachers turn a blind eye. Which is also something that I know happens way too often.

*Takes a deep breath in to chill a little*

Okay, I’m good now.
And her mother...oh my fucking god, her mother and I need to spend 15 minutes alone in a room together.
Just 15 minutes! That’s all I’ll need!

I mean, the poor girl kept a secret first-aid kit in her bedroom!
Okay, so you probably have a bit of an idea what Brie’s life is like.

There is abuse of every kind and her life is quite literally hell.
Then there’s this new kid at school and he takes the attention off of her for a minute but he looks scary and all she wants to do is be invisible.

COLTON
Another heartbreaking story.

Colton has to redo his senior year because he missed too much of it last year.
His brother, who was just a year or two younger than him, committed suicide three months ago and it obliterated his life.

He blames himself and I can’t go into too much detail about that without giving too much away but he and his mother are starting fresh...or at least trying to.
But Colton is basically having to take on the role of the parent as his mother has all but checked out. She never leaves her bedroom and so he’s trying to help her while also coming to terms with his brother’s death.

He gives off the ‘don’t fuck with me’ vibes on purpose so that people stay the hell away.
His first day at the new school he notices a shadow of a girl trying desperately just to make it through the day.

Something about her draws him in and he wants to know more about her.
But the more he sees the more worried he becomes because he sees that she is barely holding on.

SEX SCENES
I usually need a bunch of kinky fuckery in books in order to enjoy them. The fact that I loved this book even though there were minimal sex scenes in it speaks volumes about how good it is, ok?
So instead of sex scenes, I’m going to share a couple of wee excerpts that got me right in the feels.

Brie stares at me as if I just said the unthinkable, and then the corner of her mouth lifts slightly. “You care?”Her eyes begin to shine, and she sucks in a breath. “About me?”“Yeah.”My answer makes a tear spiral over her cheek, and using my thumb, I wipe it away. “Can I ask you a question?”She sniffs then nods. “Has anyone ever cared about you?”A neglected expression shadows her face, and I can see she’s struggling not to cry, then she whispers, “No.”She swallows hard on the emotion, then admits, “You’re the first person to hug me.”

I don’t love you because you’re the best looking guy in school. I don’t love you because you can cook a million times better than me. I don’t love you because your kisses are addictive. I love you because you’re my hero. I love you because no one has a kinder soul, a braver heart, and a stronger mind than you. I love you, Colton Lawson, because you hear the words, I don’t say out loud. You see the tears, I don’t cry. Mostly, I love you because you don’t push me, you don’t lead me –you walk beside me.

FINAL THOUGHTS on NOT MY HERO by Michelle Heard
This tale is both beautiful and tragic. A tale of love and hate. Hope and despair.
It is so deeply moving and brilliantly written I can’t even express my full feelings.

This was a good read! The relationship between Colton and Brie was super cute, no angst between them, no third act break up.

It was emotional at times due to Brie’s abuse from her mom and the bullying at school. Brie does have a scene where she gets close to suicide. It was emotional to read about, though it is brief and the aftermath is handled less than what I expected.

Colton is a great H, I loved him a lot. He was patient and kind.

There were some parts that I feel got glossed over and everything does get fixed up rather quickly for the topic at hand. It felt surface level, but it was a good read for what it is.

No OW or OM drama
Virgin h, H not certain but not a man whore
One brief scene where he touches her, no sex scenes

Firstly i would like to thank Michelle for giving me the honor of reading an ARC. Let me tell you it had come at a perfect time . I love all of Michelle's books but this one has to be one of my favourites. I went in blind with this one i didnt read the blurb all i knew is it was written by this author that was all i needed oh and it has a hot as hell cover.

Michelle has written a book that will literally leave a lump in your throat, and tears in your eyes. The whole book from start to finish was heart wrenching. This is really not for the faint hearted it deals with really sensitive subjects and its very raw and emotional. She drags you into the story and you feel it all the torture the heartbreak the agony the fear and also the love. This book was written so well that i felt like it was me going through what Brie was going through, everything she felt i felt. Still a day later after finishing this book its still in my head.

Brie Weinstock is a social outcast all due to her mum. Her mum i swear i wanted to stab her with a fork so so badly never have a seen such a vile human i thought i hated her before but never could i imagine how bad she really was. Brie goes through hell not only at home but at school she has not one person by her side.. In comes new bad boy Colton. When Colton comes in there are all these rumors about him so people stay away, Colton has been through hell and back so he knows a lost soul once he sees one. At first glance Colton gets drawn to Brie, and when Colton starts appearing places where she is she doesn't understand that Colton just wants to protect her. Things go from there lets just say its a very hard and bumpy road for these two. Will they survive it all? Will friendship turn into love? Will Brie be able to let Colton in? or will her mum destroy it all? well i suggest you read it to find out you wont regret it..

This book is a standalone in the Black Mountain Academy series.

THIS BOOK IS NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED THAT THERE ARE SENSITIVE SUBJECTS..

Michelle Heard has a way with her writing that just touches your heart. Not My Hero did that for me. What a wonderful read that touched my heart, had me crying a time or two but left me with a smile. You have to enjoy an author that is not afraid to write about tough subjects, and not only that but make it tactful and done right.

Not My Hero centers around the female lead Brie Weinstock is a character that will stay with you. Her story was one that got me emotional. Imagine living her rough life and never knowing love, just hate. When Colton Lawson entered her life he is just what she needs. He helps her to find herself and her voice. But he is not without his problems as well. What I loved so much here is that they saved each other. Just right in the heart man.

When you are getting a Michelle Heard read, just prepare to have some tissues ready and your heart to be touched. I would 100% recommend this book.

This book... I absolutely devoured it. From start to finish, I could not get enough.
Colton and Brie's love story is epic. If anyone deserves to be loved, it's these two. They have both been through so much. I knew going into this book that it would be emotional from Colton's appearance in Coldhearted Heir, but Brie's story blew me away.
I'm a huge fan of Michelle Heard's work, and Not My Hero does not disappoint. It's rare that I find a book that I just do not want to end. I honestly think that I will miss this one.

So like, I enjoyed this book and it definitely tugged at the heart strings, but at the same time it felt kind of cringey? Brie and Colton were great together, I want to be clear about that, and I appreciate the hell out of this author for diving into some very sensitive subject matter and handling it pretty well.

This book has a lot of TWs to include: abuse, suicide, bullying, and parental death, and I'm honestly shocked more reviews aren't pointing that out. This book is HEAVY, and it's emotional, and it's done pretty well, but it also could slap someone in the face if they're not prepared.

Colton and Brie are both victims of abuse, and they share a bond that most other people can't relate to. Colton, new to both the town and school, sees something in Brie, the daughter of a known bully who's hated in town and makes Brie an outcast. Colton is drawn to Brie and becomes her protector, even with his own personal issues to deal with at home.

Overall, I liked this book. I teared up a number of times and I definitely was emotionally invested. On the flip side, there were just a few too many things that made me go "yikes" that I wish hadn't been included and they help me back from fully loving this one. I liked it, but definitely wish some moments had just been executed better.

Many thanks to the author for the ARC in exchange for my review!

1.5 stars.

Honestly, this book was quite problematic when I think about it. Like there's seriously a lot of things wrong with it. The fact when he sees Brie getting bullied by grown boys, he tells her to do something about it and encourages her to retaliate - but realistically we know that would never go well in her favour. Adding to that, he kind of just sees her as filing in the void his brother who committed suicide left behind. There's no real depth to the story. Idk. It just seems kind of like a forced romance between them. I gave it two stars for one having a message of hope and two, cause I read more than half of it.

Wow. I didn't know what to expect going into this, having never read anything from this author before, but MAN! this was a ride. It was gritty and kinda raw but so heartwarming? You'll understand when you read it, but Colton and Brie both were AMAZINGLY strong characters considering what happened in their past, but FOR SURE I want to read this authors other books if they are as incredible as this one. Stunned. I volunteered to read and review an early copy of this. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The story of Colton and Brie has made me go trough endless emotions:
Sadness: for everything these 2 young people have suffered in their lives.
Anger: to see how Brie continues to suffer from the bullies at the school with no one but Colton doing anything to prevent it.
Tenderness: seeing how little by little both are healing from their wounds.
Joy: when there are more good days than bad.
The most romantic touch of the book are the quotes and notes that are given to each other.
The main issue of this book is the abuse both physical and emotional. Brie has suffered it all her life at the hands of her mother, who hits, humiliates, insults and threatens her daily, in addition to the bullies at school. All of that together makes Brie reach a point when she thinks it’s better to end her life. Colton has suffered it at the hands of his father, he was the protector of his mother and his little brother, but one day, after losing control he leaves the house to cool off and when he comes back he find that his brother has shot himself and he has blamed himself ever since.
It’s a book that has had me tears-eyed almost from the beginning, sometimes for bad things and other for good ones. I had not read anything about this author until now, but I will DEFINITELY read more of her books.

“You have me now, Brie. I’ll fight with you.”“You’re the first person to hug me.” My God, it’s so much worse than I thought.

“You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me.” Her words make a huge smile spread over my face. Lifting my head, I press a kiss to her hair. “I’m glad I found you in time.” “Me too,” she murmurs.

“I’m the lucky one,” I say, wishing there was a way to show him just how much he means to me. “You saved my life, Colton. I wouldn’t be here right now if it weren’t for you.”“You have no idea how much I needed to hear that. You gave me the chance to redeem myself, Brie. Forget falling. I love you.” It takes a moment for me to realize I did something big for Colton, and it makes a wide smile spread over my face. “I love you, too. With all my heart.”

Brie keeps thinking I saved her, and yeah, there’s truth to it. But I don’t think she knows what she did for me. I’m not the hero in our story. Brie is.

Mostly, I love you because you don’t push me, you don’t lead me – you walk beside me.

Not Hero is both heartbreaking and heartwarming.

I was gripped from the very beginning. What a captivating story about two young people who are both born to abusive parents.

Triggers?: There are sensitive subject matters in this story but it does not go into detail and there is no sexual abuse.

This book will have you chuntering to yourself and wanting to give Brie's mother a taste of her own poisonous medicine as she beats and abuses Brie on a daily basis but in the next breath, you will be cheering Brie on when she finally finds someone or should I say, when someone finds her and restores her trust in mankind. All Brie has ever known is manipulation, bullying, and abuse from both her mother and the other kids in school...Until Colton comes along. *swoon

Colton is the new guy in school, an enigma but he's also the only person who recognises something in Brie, what he once saw in his own brother..., despair.

Brie and Colton's upbringing is so similar that they eventually find solace and healing through each other. they also find hope.

Brie and Colton's journey is a moving story and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

What I didn't enjoy as much; The bullies in school were hard for me to swallow, that much abuse to one student and especially boys picking on a girl was a little hard for me comprehend, I couldn't grasp that there had never been any interaction from anyone before Colton came along. Also, Brie's friend who she had lunch with daily disappeared from the plot too? what happened to her?

When Colton and Brie did eventually get together, I kept waiting for something bad to happen, for something or someone to come along and add angst to the plot or spoil it all but it didn't and from that moment, that realisation that they had finally gone from friends to more was just a heartwarming ride all the away to the happy ending and an ending these two characters completely deserved.

Not My Hero is the first book I have read by his author. Although it mentions at the beginning, that it is a spin off and slightly connected to Coldhearted Heir and Trinity Academy, it is a complete standalone.
This story was the most heartbreaking thing I have ever read! I cannot begin to explain the heartache I felt for majority of this book.

Brie. That poor girl. I honestly cried constantly every time we got to see her relationship with her mother. Not to mention some of what she said about her life growing up. To think any child could grow up in a home like that and have no idea what its like to be loved... it tore me apart. The anger I felt while reading the way her mother treated her was pure rage!!
At 38% I could not believe what I was reading. My heart literally shattered and hurt so bad. I had to put the book down and have a cry. A break was most definitely needed by that point.

Colton. That boy. My heart! He first comes across as this dark, brooding character. Based on first impressions, you don't expect him to be the bright light that he is. Like Brie, he has had to deal with his own painful past and the loss of his brother. But because of this, he is the only one to see that Brie needs help and he makes a vow to help her no matter what.

The connection that Brie and Colton have is absolutely beautiful. An even though they both have such heartbreaking stories, they are brought together and the story turns from heartache to heart warming.
I have to admit, it does tend to get a little too sappy sometimes (for me personally) and this story is definitely more YA but with some pretty heavy themes that could be triggering for some.

There is a HEA that will leave a smile on your face but be prepared, because you need to get through an extreme amount of heartbreak to get to one incredibly beautiful ending.

I have a problem with this review, as I don't know HOW to share all emotions I have toward this story - I was in a slump of emotions, this author knows how to pull all strings attached to my heart. This book covers sensitive matter, that can be triggering but Ms. Heard mixed it and gave us such a beautiful story!
Brie's life was a harsh and tough one - she's an outcast and she's the other students bullies her in the school. No friends, mother that can be considered as the worst one ever. I wanted to rip this book and just stand there by her side and support her as NO ONE should suffer like that!
Colton is a boy that comes into this picture and suddenly some things changed. He seems hard, but he was so inspirational here - I'm putting dibs on him! O yeah!
Brie and Colton are two halves of the apple and I wish that every person can find their Colton in the future. I totally love this story and can't wait for the next story by this author!

Brie’s life is a story of survival both when it comes to school and her home life. She has never had anyone there to support her and all she really wants is to be left alone but even that isn’t possible. She struggles from those that try to beat her down and sees no end in sight until the most unlikely person turns into the one person she can count on.

If you looked at Colt he seems more like a tormentor than a savior but appearances can be deceiving. He is trying to overcome a devastating loss and sees a kindred soul in Brie and is determined to ensure that history doesn’t repeat itself.

Brie and Colt are two parts of a whole and they not only help each other heal from the past but show that together they can overcome anything. This story is at times heartbreaking and at times inspiring but it will definitely make you feel.

How do I begin to explain the emotions that I’m feeling right now after reading this incredible story. So many times I stopped breathing, so many times my heart stopped, yet I just couldn’t put down this book until I read every last word. This author has taken a sensitive subject that is so close to so many and made this into an inspirational read. I am in complete awe of this author right now.

Brie is a young girl who has had such a rough life. Not only at school, but at home. What this girl endures will break your heart and make you want to jump into the pages and hug her tightly. When Colton comes into the picture, her entire world changes. When he sees Brie, he feels like he’s always known her. While he has had his own tragedy in the past, he just wants to help her in any way that he can.

These two characters will ingrain themselves into your very heart and soul. You just can’t help but fall in love with them and want only good things for them in the future. Each page mesmerized me and as I read each word, I became more and more invested. There were parts of this story that will break your heart, but trust me, your heart will be put back together again. I can’t recommend this highly enough. Please, please, do yourself a favor and read this phenomenal story of second chances.

This story... Author was trying to rip your heart out. And she was successful. Honestly, it took me to read it longer, then it should, because I needed to take a breaks. I was heartbroken, but also so angry and feeling stabby.
My heart bleed for Brie. She found nowhere save heaven. School is misery, but at home waits different hell. And her dreams... OMG Everyone dreams about something big, but Brie here dreams, what we take for granted, what we don't even think about and how blessed we actually are.
My heart cried for Colton too. He had ghosts haunting him. Always needing to be the strong one and unable to just... Be.
Brie and Colton together... That was beautiful. They were remedy for each other. I really loved this little family.

Two broken hearts. They don't start out as friends, it's a wary relationship, Brie, doesn't understand why Colton is sticking up for her at school. She doesn't realize his history. It amazes me how much hurt is in the world and how its put on young shoulders. I never experienced it as a young person, but it's a lot more prevalent now. This author I think handles it beautifully with her story of Colton and Brie. "They don't matter.", that's what Colton says to Brie, and it takes her a while to figure it out, but she does, and the light comes in a second at a time. I loved all the quotes.
This is a very emotional read and I loved it.

I voluntarily reviewed this book.
