Jordan Estrada is perpetually frustrated that his great-grandparents did not board an intergenerational starship headed for Proxima Centauri. He believes that science fiction is critical to keeping the slow-burning dream of space exploration alive, and is here to do his part.
Jordan spends most of his free time outdoors, exploring the only planet he currently has access to: Planet Earth.
An adventure in "the precarious balancing act of survival among the inhospitable stars"
This is, so far, the least stand alone installment of this series... that being said, it adds clarity to how these people came to be on this ship, explains some of the relationships by showing some important moments, and gives the reader our first glimpse of what the Gills did when they were experimenting on the humans.
There is a lot of great stuff in here, but where I felt that previous story felt like an episode of a tv show, this felt like the first half of a two-parter, mid-season event.
I am amazed how much I'm enjoying this series, and the writing, the author has used some of the 'writing tricks' that are familiar from tv, like rolling back in time after a dramatic moment to explain how we got here -- and he has done them beautifully! Things that frequently make my pet peeves list, I've enjoyed in this series.
But too short! I want to know what happens next! Would be great as a series. Love the character development and narrative. Great descriptions. Pick this up for a good, hard SF short read.
LOVING this series...and finally we are getting some backstory on ash and the other of the ss earthers this series is hard to put down too bad I just found out the last 2 books cost to read😐
I picked up this book mid series. This is the first one read. I will have to read through them starting with the first. I can tell I've missed something, plot-wise: however I quite enjoyed it. I look forward to downloading the rest.
