Tailhook pilot-ll is a sequel to Tailhook pilot and takes up where it left off. It is the continued story of a Navy fighter pilot in WW-II as he faces combat in an awesome new fighter plane. It is also the story of two people trying to fall in love in a turbulent world.
The F8F Bearcat fighter in this book was developed near the end of WWll. It did not see combat in this war. It was use later by the French in Vietnum. I have written this story with the assumption that it did see combat in WWll. It was an awsome plane developed to intercept the Japanese Kamikaze. It could climb to 10,000 feet in less than two minutes which was about thee times as fast as the Zero.
I did fly this plane and have about 40 hours in it. It held the record to 10,000 feet for many years until a jet finally broke it. It did come with a rather high price. Many young pilots lost their life in the F8F. While in advanced pilot training, my roommate was one of those that did. His name was Don Jackson.
