Rate this book
One dark and rainy evening, after a visit to test out his Uncle Charley’s new still, 17-year-old Jeremiah McCoy’s dreams to attend college are dashed to pieces when he loses his life as a result of a horrific accident while traversing the slick back roads of West Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains.

After spotting professor Cole Forester’s wrecked pickup a little further up the old backroad, not far from Jeremiah’s lifeless body, horror ensues as the deceased boy’s Appalachian kin set their sights on revenge and stop at nothing to track down and kill the man responsible for their family member’s death.

There is no vengeance mightier than that wrought by kin!

Life can seem so optimistic when you're young like Cole Forrester and Jeremiah McCoy. But things can go downhill fast out in the backwoods of West Virginia after the sun goes down. A well put-together story by Richards. Perfect for a Black Mirror or Twilight Zone script. Also, a perfect read for Halloween season.

A Visceral Story with Lasting Impact

Classified a Horror Short, the author has crafted a masterpiece with the might of a novel, bowed like a virtuoso fiddler. Via the fictitious setting of Moonshine Holler, JB Richards conceives well-developed characters who give credence to the mannerisms and dialect of Appalachia’s close-knit folks.

She spares not the rod in conveying gruesome details necessary for navigating the plot.

The backstories interwoven into the fabric of this tale serve to bond the reader with her lifelike characters—particularly Cole Forrester and Jeremiah McCoy.

What ensues in the aftermath of a horrific accident in the name of hell-bent vengeance is gut-wrenching and heartbreaking.

I highly recommend this visceral story with lasting impact.

J.B. Richards spools a nail biting thriller in Kin: Horror in Moonshine Holler! When high schooler Jeremiah is killed in a car crash one evening, his family seeks dark and grizzly revenge. I love a good revenge flick and Richards brings this one to life with intensity and a good balance between horror and story! I also really enjoyed the depth of the setting and family Richards created! Check this one out if you love the Appalachian region or revenge thrillers!
