A family favourite, Disney's Frozen is one of the best-loved films of all time. Relive the magic through this retelling of the classic animated film, accompanied by paintings, story sketches and concept art from the original Disney Studio artists. Also featured is a foreword by a Lisa Keene, a co-production designer at the Walt Disney Animation Studios. Turn to the back of the book to learn more about the artists who worked on this iconic animated film.
Lily grew up in the wilds of snowy nowhere, spending much of her time talking to animals and making up stories. She has continued to do this in her adult life, and now writes both fiction and non-fiction books for children. Her titles include big books about dinosaurs, rhyming books about dinosaurs and stories about escapee hot dogs. Follow Lily on Instagram and Twitter @lilymurraybooks
This Animated Classics collection perfectly showcases the level of detail that animators pour into the latest Disney hit. Whilst Frozen might possibly be best known for the catchy songs, it's the likeable characters and stunning setting that helped make this movie such a success.
The concept artwork is fascinating to look at as the various sketches are littered through the course of the book. Whilst the story itself is presented in a simple manner for even the youngest child to still enjoy, this series has hit the right balance of having something that will appeal for everyone.
This was definitely my little Christmas guilty pleasure. I love a good illustrated book, and this Disney Animated Classics Frozen did not disappoint.
The book is accessible to young children, very simple and easy to read. There are barely any descriptions, and it relies primarily on the original script which children will be familiar with and able to relate to.
What makes this book for me though are the illustrations. These aren't shots from or penciled-down artwork inspired by the animated feature. Instead, the illustrations are taken from the concept art of the film itself, from settings to costumes, character development etc, and I simply love the idea. It's what makes this collection so unique.
It also has a nice touch through a foreword by Lisa Keene, a Walt Disney Studio artist since 1982, and 5 pages of short biographies of 22 artists whose art was used to illustrate the book.
Overall, a beautiful and unique illustrated edition of a beloved Disney Classic.
I bought this book because of the concept art a long while ago. I've recently been in a massive reading slump so I decided to try reading something easy, came across this book again and read it in one short sitting. It's a very simplified telling of the Disney movie so it isn't anything crazy. I wished it was more detailed and there was more to read but this is meant to be a simple kids' book. The concept art is absolutely gorgeous and my favorite part about this book - of course with the beautiful covers as well.
It's a nice story and it brings back memories from the movie rather perfectly, but it's not a five star for me. The story should have more pages, it feels very rushed in places, and other places it feels like they are illustrating the wrong thing, as they arent illustrating what's being described in the scene. I'm a bit disappointed in it to be honest
Oh boy the artwork in this is stunning, loved seeing the differences between earlier sketches and the movie. Couldn’t help but hum the songs to myself while reading.
The details on this cover are exquisite, and the story of Frozen remains as magical as ever. I'll never not enjoy reading about Elsa and Anna's sibling relationship, and seeing how it grows throughout their story.
Thank you @scholastic_au for providing me a copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review.
