The disease takes the world by storm. Ravaging the living, it takes no survivors. The end of the world comes swiftly and silently without much noise or fuss. It sneaks up on a group of neighbors who must bind together in order to survive. Alice is caught by surprise when the dead begin to rise. She's a not a warrior. She's comfortable with paperwork and filing, but killing? That's not exactly in her job description. Soon Alice learns there's more to the end of the world than fighting the undead, though, and she realizes that if she's not careful, her companions are going to learn her secret. Mark is a soldier. He thought he'd left the pain of war behind, but now he knows that soldiers never really leave the battlefield. Even when your physical wounds heal, there's always some remnant of horror left behind. There's always something terrifying you. Kyle isn't afraid of the dark. At least, that's what he tells himself. He's an IT guy. He's not a fighter. He has no place in the zombie apocalypse, so he has to craft one for himself. Together, they'll make or break their own survival. Together, they'll figure out whether or not they can make this work. After all, it's just another day in the zombie apocalypse. Just Another Day in the Zombie Apocalypse was originally released as an episodic serial; however, it is has been revised and expanded by the author and appears here in its entirety. Perfect for fans of The Walking Dead or Z Nation, Just Another Day in the Zombie Apocalypse takes a closer look at what a dystopian reality truly looks like.
L.C. Mortimer was raised on a small farm in Kansas, which sparked her interest in going off the grid. Learning how to can, garden, and become self-reliant were all important parts of her upbringing. After pursuing her degree in English Literature, Mortimer traveled the country with her husband, living in Hawaii, Maryland, and everywhere in between. When she's not busy dreaming up her next story, Mortimer can be found stocking up on canned goods for the zombie apocalypse.
In the beginning the the story was interesting to keep on reading. Despite the fact that the author jumbled the attributes of the zombies a bit. Either you have dead bodies, but then the blood wouldn’t be red anymore and certainly not flowing out of a body when there is no heart pumping it. Dead bodies also don’t breath like the author told us, but how can they then draw air to make a sound? Or the other option would be to let the body stay alive but heavily damaged to return us to our bases instinct or a host for a virus that would at least medically explain their abilities but of course they wouldn’t have decayed like described. So it didn’t make much sense, medically speaking.
Then there was the odd behaviour from the characters. When I am in a kitchen of a cafeteria and previously lost my only weapon, a scissor, why don’t I grab at least a pan or a knife while I am there?
In the middle part the quality leasend with every page. I kept on wondering what the characters were actually doing all day long? Because the brief glimpses and descriptions we got. They just sat around playing cards or reminiscing about their life displayed by their inner monologues and nothing else. They don’t plan on organising their food supply, they stay in a house where the front door is busted and still they don’t think on fixing it or moving. It seems silly to just stay with an unnecessary risk. They don’t brain storm what they have learned about their zombie encounters and how to better protect themselves or fight them off. They don’t plan on what happens in the long term or what it would mean for them. The odd and sometimes silly behaviour and actions didn’t help much. In the end I was really wondering why I am reading this book because there is nothing substantial happening at all. The story went in no direction. We just watched as they lingered around seemingly aimless and clueless and not able, not wanting to change that. And they were all so obsessed with themselves, at least it felt like that. Every single chapter consisted mostly of 20% actual story and 70% time where the characters drift into their pasts. It was boring as hell.
This was not what I expected based on the premise but it was pretty good, the only things bothering me were the whole weird mystery around the "watchers" and the maybe possibility of other bad meaning survivors that just got dropped to wrap it up in the end and the seemingly useless deaths right before the end.
A happy ending? I don't know, but it went waaay too sudden to be believable for me and I honestly felt a little cheated.
The book is pretty good and I do like the characters but I think the author repeated alot of the same thoughts over and over. But it was pretty solid. I do wish I knew what caused the zombies and a little more information on the watchers.
This starts with a small group of friends recovering on their apartment rooftop after a late night of drinking. Alice is a paralegal, Mark is an ex-soldier and Kyle is a computer nerd. They have been drinking buddies since Alice moved into the block about a year ago. Alice wakes first and realizes something is different. The sound of traffic is absent and then she sees smoke in the distance. When Mike and Kyle awaken and come to see what has Alice’s attention, Kyle notices something even more worrying. Zombies!
There can be no other explanation for what they are seeing and they have no time to think about it. Dangerous hordes are approaching and mark takes the lead and tells them to grab what they can and meet in five minutes. They drive out in one of their cars, but soon hit a problem and soon end up on foot with zombies everywhere! They know each other as neighbours and drinking partners at the weekend, but they are now going to have to rely on each other to stay alive.
They are on the run and Kyle’s health condition soon comes to bite his ass. It makes him feel the weakest part of the trio and leaves him wondering if the others will want to leave him behind. They each have their own secrets and hidden pain. Mark is deeply affected by memories of his time in the forces and that has left its own scars on him. Alice is not a warrior, but will soon have to learn to be one if she is to survive. If they can’t fight their way out of town, away from all the infected, then they will die.
They have no reason for what is happening, most of the power is out and they have no time to find out. What caused the infection is unknown, but Kyle’s knowledge from zombie movies, from hours in front of a screen and playing computer games, gives them reasonable rules of engagement to follow. It’s great to see how useful a baseball bat or a tyre iron will be for their future.
Once clear of their own small town, they will have to work out a safe place to re-locate to and avoid any infected as well as any homeowners who will want to protect their homes at any cost! Together they have to make the right decisions and work to survive every minute of the day. They have to figure out what works and what doesn’t and stay alive and uninjured all at the same time. They have no idea how the infection is spread, but know enough that a bite or bodily fluid exchange will probably be deadly.
A new take on a post-apocalyptic setting, with no nuclear dawn or EMP strike. There may be no explanation for the virus that they know of, but this still has all the same elements. People need to group together to survive, but allowing others into their small group will mean they will have to trust these people fully. Others may want their safe haven and supplies for themselves, so trust will be seldom granted. A great tale of what horrors people can accommodate and overcome to survive, no matter what the circumstances are.
A good, easy read which made for an interesting read. Whether there may for more of these stories, I shall wait and see, but I look forward to reading some more books by this author. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believeable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.

I read a lot of post apocalyptic stories. Why did I give this one only one star? Well, it is repetitive, not in the same exact words, but it says the same things several times during the book. It also is too introspective. Each character has long monologues of thoughts and feelings that are not shared with the other members and I am talking LONG monologues that get boring for me pretty quickly. There is no clear reason nor warning as to why Zombies have appeared in such huge numbers overnight. Plus it leaves you with a cliffhanger. The story is well written as far as sentence structure and typos. The characters are relatable other than those long monologues. In my opinion, there was not enough story to the book other than the monologues trying to flesh out the characters and their pasts, thoughts and feelings. If you are looking for a book with the usual apocalyptic story with lots of action and Zombies, this one is not for you. It wasn't for me, but I read the whole thing because I got it for an ARC, otherwise I would have probably stopped reading around the 3 or 4th chapter after giving it a chance to catch my imagination. If you like lots of depth, private thoughts, and backstory to your characters, maybe you will like it.

Is it just a matter of time before they become zombies also? Alice, Kyle, and Mark have been running from the zombies, just surviving and staying alive. When they meet another woman named Torrance they now have a family. But surviving is hard. The zombies are everywhere, and they have discovered that the original zombie’s aren’t like the bitten ones. They seem more conscious, are smart, and more human. And they are watching and plotting. These four survivors of the apocalypse have to stay one step ahead of them. They just want a place to be safe. But is there anywhere like that? What caused the apocalypse? No one seems to know. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
I found this story to be really interesting to the point that once I started reading it, I was unable to put it down until I had finished it. The plot is interesting, and the characters have depth to them, so you understand where they are all coming from and why they are the way they are. I really liked how all the characters were given their own story/history. A wonderfully written story and if this is your genre then I suggest getting comfy before you start reading this book as it’s going to be a few hours before you move again.

Holy sugar, Just Another Day is good. I could not have waited for the next chapter in this once serial publication. Readers must have been dying. (chuckle).
L.C. Mortimer brings zombies to life in Just Another Day. Mortimer has them freaking everywhere and let’s just say some are more advanced than others.

Not much zombie action and you never get to find out what the 'watchers' purpose was or what they did . It was more of a love story than a zombie story. Great if you like romances
I did not like the constant repetition. The zombies were okay and in fact I was intrigued by the watcher zombie but since it was not really ''fleshed out'', it came across as mysterious rather than horrifying. This was more of a simplistic love story.
