"I like to think of my stories as adventures," Simmons says. Most take place in Regency or Medieval England, such as her popular series on the thirteen century de Burgh family. But no matter what the setting, you'll find interesting characters, romance, humor, and mystery.
This is a sort of mystery-regency-historical. Because I am not a fan of mysteries, I fast-skimmed a lot of pages. However, the best part of this book are the characters of H and h and especially descriptions of feelings of the hero's point of view. Well worth to read till the end. I would like to rate this as 3,5 stars. Maybe this could be felt even better, but I had all the time while I read this a feeling that I have read this book before...
I loved it! The story itself is unlike most romance novels, which is a welcome change indeed. And Morgan and Juliet?? Oh they were such interesting characters, and that slow burn was totally worth it! I loved how Juliet, though completely inexperienced with sexual attraction, really blossomed with Morgan. It was nice to have a heroine more smart than beautiful because Morgan really did fall in love with her as a person. No insta-love or even instant attraction. Absolutely beautiful. Great love story!
This is my third try at writing a positive review for this adventure/romance, the others having disappeared into a rabbit-hole. So this is an abbreviated effort. The setting is authentic and well-described, reminding me of the sights along the Nile that I saw on a river cruise in the ‘90s. The romance between Morgan and Juliet is tender and believable—not too sugary, not too graphically spicy, but just right. I highly recommend this for an entertaining bit of literary escapism.
What a marvellous story! Cultural and historical details on every page pulled me onwards until I finished. Unexpected twists in the plot made great sense at the end. I'm definitely going to be reading more from this author!! Highly recommended.
