Elle Hyden embarked on a new phase of her life in 2015 when she retired, allowing her to indulge in her favorite pastime, reading. Inspired by the other authors’ stories and using what her mother had called an overactive imagination, she decided to write a few of her own.
She has already begun work on the third book in this series.
Stunning story. I've read a few books this year where they have left me feeling deflated and lost, this read is complete opposite, it is captivating till the end. And let's face it, the cover is also a solid bonus.
I love romance and I find stories about Native American heritage very fascinating. Lost & Found is a fabulous combination of both and so much more. It's expertly crafted with vivid descriptions and detailed explanations. It adds a lot to the story, without being boring. It's all an inspiring example of how land can flourish when the humans start listening to nature and not be guided by the big money. I was totally engrossed in this beautiful mystical, slow burn romance with all the intense emotions that complicated the relationship between the main characters. I highly recommend Lost & Found.
Didn't Finish at 55%. I wanted to like this more than I did. It's got fated soul mates and mystical connections - Kindle Unlimited!
Our two leading ladies are both in their 40's. Selina is Native American and very spiritual in her connection to those roots. She meditates and experiences visions and guides to help her find her way. There is also a white wolf that pops up visually for both ladies. There's also some literal 'spirits' of energy that are assisting to guide the two ladies together from the beyond, and we get their POV a few times throughout.
Rea had lost her wife to cancer 3 years previous. She's lonely although not alone. She runs an amazing farm with a whole community attached to it that she also keeps running, wanting it to be a truly organic and environmentally friendly place to grow food in natural ways, without chemicals. Chemicals which ultimately killed her wife. Both women are incredibly smart and educated, having multiple degrees in various sciences, like botany, soil chemistry, plant growth and farming, etc.
I hated that the story got really bogged down in the minutiae details, of daily life. Waking up, having coffee, letting the dog out, all those little things are ever present and fully detailed, which I felt distracted from what I wanted to read about.
By 55% they had finally met, and were tentatively getting to know each other - but all I was hearing about was every single step of them making dinner for ages. Marinating the meat, grilling potatoes, cutting up stuff for a salad, do you want a beer? sure thanks, beef or chicken? Both! How about Wine? sure thing, oh Worcestershire sauce, we need it, OH And a dressing for the salad blahblahblah and on it went, and so I gave up at that point. It was going nowhere fast, and I couldn't contain my interest.
Another thing that made me pretty darn uncomfortable is the way the author writes the dialogue for the hispanic characters. Utilizing very poor English/Spanglish and grammar. It felt offensively stereotypical, and indeed made me cringe with how the author misspelled the dialogue to really push home the accents in wild ways. Examples: “Ju lissen to me! Ju too jung to be alone for de rest of jur life. Juss donn close jur eyes or jur heart if love come along.” “An donn ju forget it, Chica! Come, sit down at de table wile I feed dat wolf in jur stomack.” “None of jur bizznes, mister nosy man. Us weemen haf our secrets. Ju both go an clean jur hands, den sit jur butts down.”
It just made me very very uncomfortable and like I said I was physically cringing when I read multiple strings of dialogue like this from various hispanic workers she had on the farm, and I found myself skipping them entirely because I felt so bad about it.
I would definitely love to hear others opinions on it, maybe I was impatient, but damn I really couldn't feel or understand any real connection, plus the things that bothered me about it, really did rub me the wrong way and knotted up my stomack!. So I have to listen to those gut-feelings when I get them.
This was a paranormal love story which I liked very much. Especially the body positivity aspect of the one MC. The writing was good so I’m looking forward to the next book in this series.
This is a gentle read, slow-burn with low angst even though the mains have tragedies in their pasts. It was nice to see diversity in the cast and body-positivity. The narrative is well-written and polished and overall a nice, entertaining story with some action and tension, plus a sweet, happy ending. The POV switches between the two mains but thankfully avoids head-hopping.
It’s hinted at a number of times that the mains have crossed paths before and only just missed meeting until that point, but none of them appear in the story. It would be cool to have those, maybe even as flashbacks interspersed throughout the story.
I liked how Selina’s native heritage plays a big part in the story, plus several meaningful coincidences. Both MCs are interesting and I was glad they found each other. I enjoyed how they communicated and respected each other. One small bump in this was I found the first kiss scene slightly odd and didn’t seem quite consensual, but they do have definite feelings of affection for each other outside of that scene.
Overall, a nice story with some supernatural elements and a satisfying ending.
My rating: 3.75 stars
I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
• Lost & Found A Mystic Meteor Tale • Author Elle Hyden • MC Selina & Rea • Magic • New beginning • Sherry deceased wife
Forty year old Selina is at a cross roads. She has lost everything, her partner, job and home. She wants to go back to her Native America roots. Selina discovers she has a wolf for a spirit guy who shows up whenever she is struggling.
Forty six year old Rea lost her wife 3 years ago and is still very much struggling. She purchases land and a farm to start over.
Support Characters/spirit guides there are 3 spirit guides. Rea wife Sherry, Lily Amá sání is Salina grandmother and Nita is her mother all 3 spirits. The spirits intercede to pull the two women together. There is a turning point in the story where Rea is given some answers and clarification from the spirit guides.
This book moves very slowly, so you have to pack your patience.
There is a twist in the story I really love. This is a beautiful and unique story A true Gem 💎 Please read the book it’s available on KU
I highly recommend this book 5 plus stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The first chapters were difficult to pass maybe because of the slowness of it all but I hanged on and then I was hooked. This book moves very slowly but it is to be expected when 3/4 of the story unravels in barely just a week but I can assuredly say that it redefined slow burn.
Rea is still heartbroken from the death of her wife Sherry and has still lingering anger and body issues that she deals with all through the book, the appearances of the spirits was confusing at the start but it all makes sense as the story unveils. Sherri's presence and support help Rea move on.
Lina searches a life long partner as all her relationships don't seem to last and she just can't seem to find her right person but with the help of sprits close to her heart she is led on the path of Rea and the connection is immediate.
I really liked this book and it was a first for me to go this deep in spirit beliefs but it was interesting. I'll have to keep an eye for other books from this author that's for sure 4.5 stars
3.75 * a very enjoyable read. I'm not a huge fan of contemporary romance but I wanted a change of pace and this did it.
I liked the whole world, the characters, the story, the mystical influence and the meeting of so many cultures all at once. It was believable and on the whole very good. Scenes are evocative and visual. Excellent.
On the downside, and these are very personal issues is the use of tenses. The use of the present participle is, for me, a great irritation and often, when a story starts with the present tense, I rarely get beyond the first chapter. In complex sentences, it can become awkward and difficult to follow smoothly. The story flows best when Hyden switches to the past tense and stays with it. Those flow beautifully.
Another issue which is minor, is that scenes are over-detailed. It is not necessary to explain how a person gets out of a truck, somethings can be omitted as they clutter the story.
I would definitely recommend this, and I will happily read the next story that Hyden publishes.
I enjoyed this book very much. I liked how the author of weaved the story around two very diverse individuals. We live in a society that pictures women to be thin and unblemished. The main character is far from perfect yet she is beautiful in her own way. Good job by the author
I loved this story and the concept of the ethereal guardians helping your fate connect. It was just beautiful. I’ve never read anything from Elle Hyden before but this book has just thrown her into my ‘Authors to watch out for’ shelf.
SAPPHIC BOOK BINGO: unusual job, favorite trope, newbie author, author's pick, full-time writer; UNICORN: book mention (possibly other categories)
An organic farmer had a job vacancy for a botanist. A somewhat of a drifter botanist needed a job. The farmer hired the very qualified botanist for the position. The job included a place to live on the farmer's property near her house. The two became closer, and the farmer revealed that she was a widow of three years. It became obvious to the botanist that the other MC hadn't fully grieved the loss of her wife. The drifter was Native American and held beliefs from her tribe. The spiritual beings involved in her life intervened between the two MCs a few times to try to get them into a relationship.
I liked the metaphysical aspects because they paralleled with some of my own beliefs. The characters had great chemistry and they shared similar ideals and work ethics. There were some very descriptive parts, and some charming dog and horse interactions. It was a slow burn and low angst read that many will enjoy.
Realta "Rea" Tobin, owner/operator of an organic farm that is large enough to supply the diner and shops in Moirai, the Colorado town where she lives. Sherry, Rea's wife died three years ago, and while Rea mourns her still, she wishes she could find a way to move on with her farm and her plan to grow only organic crops.
Selina Thorson is a Native American woman who has gone through a bad relationship, but doesn't want to go back to her family to talk to them about it. Her beloved grandmother her Ama sani, Lilakai has passed away, but Selina can - and does - contact her spirit to ask for direction. Selena is also a trained botanist and agronomist.
Selina and Rea meet when Selina submits her resume to Rea for a job on the farm as an agronomist. Both women are in fragile shape for different reasons, but both also feel an attraction to each other.
What I really liked about this book were all the descriptions and explainations of how Rea configured her farm and how Selina followed her Native American roots. I learned so much about so many things, which is always a bonus.
This was an easy-to-read story that flowed so well and gave a new twist to a woman-meets-woman plot line. The slowest of slow burns! Highly recommended!
Beautifully written! I wasn't sure I would have enjoyed a story like this, but after starting it, I realized it wasn't at all what I thought it was going to be. I also worried that the story was going to centre a lot on the type of farming Rea did and the work she and her workers did, and it was interlaced a lot in the story, but it didn't take away the romance of the story. This was heavy in spirituality, which I am supportive of more than religion. I believe in signs from a higher power, I believe in things happening for a reason, I believe in reincarnation and soulmates. This story delivered it all plus a side of romance and erotica. Selina was gorgeous and someone I find attractive. Rea was not my type, but that didn't take away the fact that she was just as beautiful, inside and out. I appreciated the body positivity/negativity issue the author brought forth, and it was a breath of fresh air to have a woman like Selina, pining for a woman who was curvy, if not bordering on the heavier side. It gives women like me hope.
Pacing of this story was a mess for me, with the MCs not even meeting until about the halfway point, and once they do the story really stops moving forward and instead it focuses on their spirit-influenced "instalove". The author spends much of the book describing farming, landscapes, furniture in homes, etc in such great detail, which doesn't serve much more purpose than padding the length of the book. There are also a number of oddly-worded phrases that I think were meant to be sexy or endearing, but instead I found myself pulling faces at the somewhat off-putting imagery. I'm not a big fan of instalove, characters doing some super creeptastic things without consequence (I'm looking at you, Selina...), or MCs who need other characters to convince them to be together. This book was not my jam.
This is a really nice story. The characters are nice, the setting is nice, and the animals add a nice touch. If you're in the mood for a low angst story, this could be just the ticket.
I read this wonderful story in one sitting, which is something I rarely do, even as an avid reader. The characters are rich and dynamic, the plot has delightful intricacies, and the ending?…deeply satisfying. As I neared the end, I kept hoping for just one more chapter! Now I’m hoping for a forthcoming series about these women (hint, hint, Ms. Hyden??).
This is the first book I’ve read by Ms. Hyden, but definitely not the last. The themes of respect, love, Native American spirituality, body image, vulnerability, and courage are closely entwined and embodied in each character. Their flaws are endearing and the author uses them, not only to advance the plot, but also to demonstrate their humanity. I appreciate how she describes scenes and situations with succinct detail making me feel like I’m actually there. And the slow burn of the love story was perfectly paced. What delighted me the most were the ages and experiences of the main characters, and the tenacious hope that infused them.
Do yourself a favor— dive into the world of Lost and Found. This is a book that will stay with you long after you’ve finished it.
It had to be the slowest burn possible, but it was lovely. One lost soul finds a still sad, insecure soul and they end up healing each other. I do believe our souls are reborn and maybe we’ve crossed paths a million times to get to right where we are supposed to be, but when we’re supposed to be. This book really resonates with the timing of life and how things happen- bad and good- when they’re supposed to. It’s beautiful with quite amazing writing that I look forward to reading again.
Absolutely loved this story; from the two main characters who were adorable in their own different way, to the description of the town/world it’s set in and especially the explanation of mystical energies. Totally loved it from cover to cover and read it today in one sitting 😊
A wonderful, sensitive love that was ment to be.Very sensitively written.I loved every word of it.The back story should have been very sad but instead it was very uplifting. Highly recommend.
What a good book it kept my interest from beginning to end. Very enjoyable romance. Soul mates spirits helping them to find the way. I love happy endings. The characters are well written and very likeable. Thanks for a very enjoyable read.
First time I have read a story of this kind, and I've really enjoyed it!
Two mature women who want to find their other half, even if they are not looking for it. Both are lost for different reasons (one has lost her forever partner; the other has never had emotional or job stability) and they are looking for a second chance.
Fate has to intervene in the form of the spirits of their loved ones, so that they finally meet (since they did not do so in different small encounters in their youth); Or maybe it was all planned that way from the beginning so that they would become who they are the moment they finally get together...
It is a quiet love story, which develops little by little (without slowing down), although from the first moment there is a mutual attraction between the two. This development gives us the opportunity to get to know the main characters, their circumstances and their environment. This novel has a magical component, but it integrates well into the story and the author has managed to make it believable.
Most importantly, it is a beautiful story that leaves a good taste in your mouth and conveys that feeling of tranquility and good vibes.
Selina is looking to settle, a home, a job, a future, and while travelling comes across some signs and her spirit guide. She is lead to Rea, who has just hired her as a botanist. Selina is instantly attracted to Rea, but it’s not that simple, even if Selina is sure this is where fate has lead her. Rea is holding back, unsure of herself and her feelings, despite oozing confidence and being a very successful business woman. With the help of the fates, and Rea’s home grown business family, she is working through her heartbreak and wondering if she can love again, especially now Selina has come into her life.
The loveliest thing about this story was the deep running heritage, and moral outcomes. Elle has bought a lovely mystical romance that is completely based around the idea that fate plays a big part in finding love. It was endearing and really beautiful to bring a story about moving on, loving again, and overcoming past heartbreak to have a most wonderful experience of life. Of course the path to true love is never smooth, so there is plenty of drama packed into this story, but it is quite slow burn terms of the romance. That completely fitted the story though, Rea had a lot to endure as a character and together they had to go through many experiences, as is life. It was very representational and filled with meaning, and love.
I really enjoyed this story and even though it is slow to build, that only adds to the mystery and journey of the story.
I loved Selina and Rea’s characters, both alone, and together. Selina reminded me of a free spirit and it was refreshing to see her carefree approach to life. She came across strong, but Selina wasn’t without her vulnerabilities, which gave emotional depth to her character and something to really connect with whilst enjoying her spirit. It was Rea though who I really felt a connection to. She was a fantastic representation of women who are confident but not without their insecurities and with body confidence issues. I really thought this added something to her character, and only strengthened any love of the genuine connection between her and Selina.
A really good read, with lots of wonderful meaning.
Fantastic Botanist Selina is a woman who has lost her way. Following in her Native roots, she seeks help from the Spirit Realm. Rea lost her wife to cancer and has spent the last few years making their dreams of a big scale organic farm co-op come true. With the help from some otherworldly beings and things their paths cross and old wounds begin to heal.
What a beautiful story this is!!! Its so sweet and tender and gentle and so, so darn good! Its got so much love of all sorts, so many lovely emotions to back them up... Sigh… This book made me so happy and left me so contented with warm fuzzies in my heart. I LOVED the supernatural tilt to this book. It made the story that much more special and lovable. I couldn’t put this book down and pouted so hard when I got near the end… the story was over but I wasn’t ready to let these wonderful women go! This is going to be one of my all-time favourite feel good, pick me up reads and its already in my Must Read Again pile!!
I really enjoyed the mystical elements of this story, that were interwoven through the whole story. The descriptions in the book were awesome, and at one point her description of what the character Selina was grilling had me wanting to head to the nearest steakhouse. I also loved all the supplemental characters in the story which included people but also the animals which were an integral part of the story.
But most of all I liked that the character Rea had a less than perfect figure and Ms. Hyden portrayed how body issues can be a huge hurtle that has to be overcome when it comes to intimacy and what a special partner Selina was for her.
In the Author note it said the author was working on the next story already and I can't wait to read that one.
I suspended my belief system because I don't have a problem learning how an author views the mystical, mythical, spiritual, ethereal world around them. This was a good read with many "Oh really" and "Oh my" moments. Selina and Rae's coming together was interesting because Selina wanted a lasting love and Rae lost her lasting love. Could they navigate what the universe was trying to bring together? They're in their 40s and way past the angst of youth so the slow burn of them coming together is a good read. Wonderful description of what goes into building and operating an organic farm. The recycling, being aware of how all things share living spaces. I liked the book.
An absolutely wonderful and inspiring love story. A wonderful blending of native American culture on various fronts including life, Love and loving mother earth and finding the balance between life and death and finding the balance between your past your present and your future. A must read in my opinion.
I loved the story, it was sweet without any worries or bad stuff and I loved the characters. They were normal everyday people not crazy rich or overly pretty. A slow at first, but then could not stop reading it. It had some mystical stuff happening that made it fun to read. It is a really easy read with no anxiety.
