Unveiled Academy #1

Paranormal University: First Semester

Rate this book

At the University of Paranormal Studies, class is about to start.

Claire just received her letter of acceptance despite the fact that she didn’t apply. Why does the university want her?

Because ghosts, vampires, werewolves, leprechauns, elves, dragons…

They all exist – and more. They’re crossing over into our world on a daily basis – but not all of them are ‘friendly’.

Claire is from a small town where her future prospects consisted of flipping chicken at the local fast food joint. Now she’s traveling to Boston, where she’ll learn how to fight this ‘mythological invasion’. She never thought she’d be in a class called Vampires 101 but…

Claire’s a soldier in this new war – she will be humanity’s most dangerous asset.

And if Claire and her classmates fail? If they don’t learn fast enough and fight hard enough?

Well, graduation won’t matter too much when the world is reduced to ashes.

Where do all our myths and legends go?

A good read. A world that is suddenly starts seeing things out of books, myths and legends appear. But only to a certain few. How are they suddenly getting through and what is the end game? The characters well I did start off liking all the human ones especially our heroine. Gutsy, brave and outspoken plus super fast. However instead of that growing I found that by the end I thought she was OK but not really anything special. However the annoying Leprechaun, Frank, became one of my favourites by the end. The heroine should have been a mixture of her own strengths and that of the other female member of our fighting Trio. (But without a scared part) The male of the trio is Jack a great fighter and that is all you can politely say. The three are brought together in a special Academy to fight and find out how things are coming through. Especially once the vampire's start coming. Will Dracula be next and if so how do they fight back?

I liked it, but...

This was a pretty intriguing premise and I thought I’d love this considering I’ve been enjoying other series by Anderle (Witch of the Federation and Steele Dragon), however this wasn’t as action packed and gripping as I’d hoped. The characters are pretty two dimensional, and that’s the our MCs, the other class members are virtually nonexistent. The teachers are jerks, and the Dean, Prof. Byron and the two FBI agents seem to really have no qualms about sending 18 year olds to fight supernatural creatures after only a couple of weeks classes. The weak tea excuses from the FBI agents for hanging back gets old real quick and I was rooting for the big bad to get them.

Anyway, don’t think I care enough about the characters to continue.

Another excellent series from the many friends of Michael Anderle!
Claire Marrisa and Frank are on the job and Jack's an ass! Lol

Really, really great story

I was pleasantly surprised about how good this story is. It only took me about 8 hours to read. Which means I was totally engrossed in this story from beginning to end.

Good book

Not quite five stars , but still an enjoyable read. I like Frank , he's probably my favorite character .
Why I couldn't give 5 stars is something I'm still thinking about. Maybe the first part of the book was a little low on action ?
Anyway , still an excellent read and I'm definitely going to read book two when it's available.

Leprechauns?

Fantastical creatures are on the loose, and only a certain age bracket and mind set can see them. A great series within the Unveiled Academy universe.

Unique Take on Academy Novel

Did we create supes with our imaginations, or were they already there invading our dreams. Personally, I believe it is hubris to think humans can imagine another being into being, and this is the only thing that bothered me about the whole book. It would be nitpicking to take away a whole star for that, so only half a star.
I have an open mind, and I am willing to read a good story that is well told. I do, however, think we should get off picking on sparkling vampires since it's just another point of view. I liked the fact that at least in the first book in this series there was no romance only a really snarky, pervy leprechaun that I would have a blast with and be proud to call him my BFF.
The idea here is that a cult is opening up the veil and letting these supes through in what we think is an attempt at world domination. There are cells everywhere and this is but one. The only people who can see them in their true form are those from 18-23 years old with a few exceptions. I, of course would be one of those exceptions. Awesome take, and I am surprised no one has thought of it before. Call me a traditionalist, but I still believe that somewhere in this great big multiverse, all of these things exist, and yes I do believe in the multiverse theory.
All the same loved the book, love both of these authors and have several of their books, and I am always guaranteed a great story when I read them. This one was no exception. I have the two that follow already, so I am ready for a couple more great stories.

Paranormal University is a 4 book series focusing on Claire Hinterland, Claire has been recruited to fight monsters that come through the veil. She ends up in a team with Marissa and Jack.
I found the plot intriguing however, the execution fell flat, I was expecting a lot more action but it starts off slow but by the end, they've done a bit.

I need to talk about the characters, the majority were average and I don't really care for them.
Claire is our main protagnist and when discussing the first mission, we all have to hear how special she is. I don't see it, I can see why Marissa is but I don't see why Claire is special.

Marissa is underated, she is the most intelligent of the group and frankly, better then Claire, we can see why she's special, the author shows us and tells us this.

Jack Teams: What to say about Jack Teams apart from that he's got some sense of humor at least, he goofs around in class but he's a loyal teamate.

For a book with 247 pages, it sure felt like it was a long book and it took me ages to finish, this never happens for me, I usually burn through these books.
The good news is that I have a box set that contains all of this series and all of Penny and Boots so I can just read them all in one Kindle book.
That is good and bad because that means I don't have an excuse to not continue the series.

This is a genre I find myself coming back to read a lot. The paranormal, supernatural academy books. This was a unique read that kept me entertained from page one. One of the major things I enjoyed about this book was its take on the paranormal / supernatural world. It was hidden by the veil and was filled with characters that we “believe” in. Such as Dracula, who is the main focus for the first book.

I enjoyed the unique grouping of characters. Frank, Claire’s leprechaun best friend, was a unique addition. He added a lot to the book as he quickly volunteered to help out in every situation for the right price.

Claire was strong throughout the whole thing and her trio continued to build each other up. It was nice to read a book that didn’t focus on romance and instead focused on some beautiful friendships. There was no damsel in distress and every character brought a unique and useful skill set to the table. They were supportive and it made the read that much more enjoyable.

I would recommend this to anyone. I’m excited to read the next three books in the series and find out what other supernaturals we meet and the uncover more about the group that is bringing them over.

Great read--original premise

It can be difficult to come up with original story elements that haven't been done before; or to make them fresh and interesting even if they have been done before. This story does that!

*********"Spoiler alert********

Claire was just an ordinary teenager until some guy stole her purse at a carnival and Claire chases him down to get it back.

It turns out that the guy is leprechaun and Claire is the only one who can see him as he really is. Later Claire is recruited, along with some other teenagers, to fight monsters that adults are not able to see.

I won't give away any more of the plot; I thought this was an interesting story--well worth the read. The characters are engaging and well described. Even though the subject material gets a bit dark, the banter between the characters keeps a fun and light-hearted tone--a good contrast to scenes where the teens are in very real danger.

The characters are complex and all of the central characters change and grow over the course of the story.

This is the best of the magical academy type books I've read on Kindle Unlimited. Claire, a worker at a fast food chicken place, outruns a thief who stole her purse only to find that he is a leprechaun. The two become friends and then Claire is invited to join a Paranormal University to learn how to fight the mythological creatures. But it soon stops being about classes and books as the last half of the book is Claire and two of her classmates fighting vampires, including Dracula. This book comes up with good reasons why the FBI is having teenagers do the fighting (their minds are flexible enough to see the mythological beings, which nearly all adults cannot.) And there is some good characterization.

Paranormal University: First Semester Paranormal University, is the first book in the series by Jace Mitchell and Michael Anderle.

Claire has been recruited by the FBI/government to train and fight against the creatures coming through the Veil in the Mythological Invasion. Claire has backbone and is the perfect leader for her group, with the bonus help from a leprechaun to fight against the vampires.

This NA urban fantasy story is filled with pop culture references, which are fun at times. There’s also different POV’s with some of the side characters, how were Claire remains the primary. This was an interesting enough story, but unfortunately not enough to keep me hooked to continue the series as there was no real connection with the characters that left me wanting more.

Not a kindle reader but the story pulled me in,,,

I’m new to Kindle. I prefer a book in my hands honestly. But I do like trying new authors and using Kindle helps Especially since book stores are closed right now.

The story was intriguing and mostly well thought out. The premise was original and appreciated. I would like to see a little more character development in the women or girls. But truthfully I will be reading this series to the end. If it develops the way I hope it will then I will purchase the books as well. I believe in supporting good writers. I want them to continue.

Intriguing storyline

WOW, Anderle and Mitchell certainly do not disappoint with the first book in this series. The storyline pulls you in and leaves you wanting more. Recruited by the alphabet agents as they call them, the kick-ass heroine, the nerd, the jackass and of all things, a leprechaun, the four must fight off the biggest and baddest of the blood suckers. Will they win and escape with their lives? Will they find out how and why these mythical creatures are appearing on Earth?
I definitely recommend reading this book to find out the answers!
My question now is, is book 2 out?

First book in this series.

There’s a veil, a barrier between our world and another. Creatures are breaking through and they’re creatures exactly as we have imagined them in stories but grownups can no longer imagine so cannot see them.
Time for the FBI to recruit some teenagers by any means necessary to their Paranormal University.

The story flows really well, the characters are well written - Frank is by far my favorite.
The writing is smooth and interesting.
Had to give it 3.5* though as it felt a little awkward in some transitions, a bit abrupt on the action, a little bit forced on some descriptions.

Will read more in the series though and see where this goes!

Love this shared universe!

After reading about and falling in love with Penny and Boots in the previous series, Claire and Frank have found a place in my heart as well! I love these kinds of companion stories! Especially when at least one is not human! Where Penny and Boots had an air of mystery about it, this story - and series, I hope - is slowly delivering some answers about the inner workings of the Veil and then Mythers. Both series are fantastic all the same! I can't wait to know what happens next!

Overall, funny and interesting (even if my nitpicking made it seem worse than it is), but a lot of plot holes. There is a lot of tweaking that could be done to make it better...or I'm just a crazy person who over thinks things.

High octane college

You will hit the ground running with this book...and it never stops!! Mythical creatures are coming into our world but is it a hoax or real...Being friends with a leprechaun gives our leading lady an indication it's probably real. Offered a college placement with the FBI changes her world in so many ways. If the rest of college life is anything like this first semester it's going to be an interesting ride!!!

Fun and fantastic read!!!

Once again, we haha e another great and fresh take on the invasion from the Veil. The characters, plot, and villains are keeping my interest in overdrive! I adore that we now have another s hook dealing with the invasion, and they are a riot and deadly. Never get between a leprechaun and his beer or his friends.

Nice read

I liked this book, it's written well with no glaring grammar or spelling mistakes. Frank is hilarious and the storyline is great. There is (so far) no sex, swearing or gratuitous violence but still a fun book to read.

The Veil is tearing

A leprechaun named Frank, a couple of kids and the FBI. Features are turning up every day and nobody knows why. But know there is a school set up by the FBI to train the kids to fight against the bad ones and know about the others.

Another new universe

What is it with Michael Anderle and his proclivity in creating new universe for Authors to play with? Is it because of his red soda thingy?
