3.5/5

I received a free ALC from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

This book takes place roughly 20 years after the events of Raging Rival Hearts. It focuses on Cat & Ace's daughter, Amara, and Faith's son, Remo. They're all grown up and they hate each other. But when they're stuck with each other in a prison where their magic doesn't work, they'll have to trust and rely on each other.

I don't know, I think this series peaked for me at Rowan Wood Legends. While I did like Amara and Remo, all of their interactions and eventual romance was just very predictable. I missed Cat, she is my favorite after all. There is nothing that's wrong with this book per se, I was just very bored. Nothing really drew me in like the original trilogy did. Also, prison stories are boring to me, so eh. I wish Amara and Remo would've had to learn to like each other through some sort of political match competition or something. I have no idea, but I missed the magic especially since Amara is incredibly overpowered and is super special.

I do like Wildenstein's writing and worldbuilding (minus the fact that everyone is straight, bleh). But I felt like we were teased with Neverra throughout the series, to only get here and barely see any of it? I would've loved to see more of the Daneelies in Nevarre and like how all of that conflict is going/being settled. I guess my main complaint is that I like fantasy with magic, and it was taken away since the main setting is this supernatural prison.

We do get some awesome cameos from characters from the rest of the series and we do see a bit of them in the beginning and at the end. I did like the twist with

Urrghhhhh I can’t handle these emotions. I neeeeeddd more!!! 😍 there better be another spin off book (with you-know-EXACTLY-who).

Review: (I keep adding stuff as I keep thinking about how much I loved this book sooooo ranting may occur).

This story is another favorite! I cannot believe that this is a whole new generation of fae, and I honestly love them even MORE (sorry Ace 😭). Everything about this was perfection and I am aboard The Lost Clan ship for the long haul. (PLEASE PLEASE give us moooreeee).

Taking place decades in the future (technically centuries for us humans), Amara Wood and Remo Farrow are living their best next-Gen lives. Amara is a princess with a wonderful family and everything she could ask for. Remo has a high ranking position in the Wood’s guard and his title (and smokin’ hard-earned physique) is pure lady bait. Two total opposites, as well as two rivalling families, make for childhood rivals that can’t even stand being in the same room.

They are entirely flawed, stubborn and feisty, but their enemies-to-lovers story is humbling and adorable. I can’t get over it 🥰

Now, the beginning of this book is all the good information explaining the who and where and why of the series. It allows for old readers to rejoice in the mention of our favourites, and new readers to understand the world better.

Then, things really pick up when an arranged marriage and a Jumanji-like prison world is thrown into the mix. It’s fun and scary and so intense I couldn’t put this book down!

Reckless Cruel Heirs was a sexy, wild ride that shows our two young fae love can be a deadly game.

In case you didn't realize, this is very much a romance- sure it is a romance that just so happens to be packed with danger and crazy scenarios where the character's lives are constantly at risk, but still a romance (think if the movies Jumanji (the new video game version) meets 10 things I hate about you had the best love baby- with supernatural Fae). This is really the best example of enemies to lovers, which is one of my all time favorite romance plots. I enjoyed the journey of watching Amara and Remo start as awful enemies, to reluctant partners, to respectful almost-friends to romantic interests (insert happy dance here).

“You’re jealous of me?” He peered down at me through his dark auburn lashes. “Who isn’t? You have everything. You’re even pretty. You could’ve at least been born with some facial warts or a weak chin.”
I blinked at him. “You think I’m pretty?”
His forehead crinkled as though my question were causing him physical pain. “On the outside.”
If both my hands hadn’t been immobilized, I would’ve smacked him. “You’re such an ass.”

If I could change one thing about this book, it would be to have the book be dual narrated by Remo! He was so stoic and elusive, I would have loved to get a look inside his (very sexy) head. Yes, this is purely selfish desire, but still. I found him to be a great character, full of complicated layers and motivations, I just wanted to pick him apart (in the best of ways, I swear!) For such a "bad guy" he was dreamily chivalrous, caring and determined- Amara would never have been able to survive a Fae supernatural prison without him- nor would I have wanted her to. Side note- Amara is a great character and I loved watching her character evolve through the book, she became more competent as well as open about her own feelings.

“What good is a hero without a villain?” My eyes widened , and then I blinked. And then I laughed. “I’m your villain?” In between waves of hilarity, I said, “What a villain I make. Scared of ghosts and a complete klutz on stairs.” I wiped the corners of my eyes and elbowed him with my good arm. “No one would read that story.”

This is my current favorite book in the Lost Clan Series, and maybe my favorite book by this author. Reckless Cruel Heir was exciting, dangerous, stressful, fun, swoony, steamy, compelling and overall romantic. This stands very well as a standalone (even though it is the 5th in the series) since there are new characters with a new adventure and romance, just set in the already created world with characters that I love from the previous books. Also, this had a HEA all it's own and I ate it up! I do hope a certain blast from the past can get their own HEA next...

I was going to skip reading this one, but then a few hours passed and I really missed being in the world Wildenstein created, so I started the book... and got hooked.

description

I usually can't handle continuing a series when so much time passes. It breaks my heart to see characters older, but this didn't hurt as bad. It was interesting to see what had happened in the last 20 years. There were a few times this broke my heart in the story, but the book mainly focused on the two new characters (the daughter of Cat and Ace and Faith's son). So it was okay.

I loved the whole adventure feel (almost dystopian-esque). The change in the relationship didn't feel to rushed. The writing was well done. It was interesting to see how the writing changed over the years. Overall, I really loved this addition to the series. Some things were left a little unresolved so I am really hopeful that there is going to be another book coming soon!

SPOILERS >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Okay I just need to let out the two things that really broke my heart. First off, I was so happy when Faith and Cat became friends. Then to see that for 20 years they were enemies again. Yeah that hurt.

BUT CRUZ! CRUZ! That killed me! Killed me! And it feels a little like Twilight bc it seems like Cruz is going to go after Giya (lilys mom) which feels like a Jacob and Renesmee situation (but not really because Giya is actually an adult). So I am actually looking forward to seeing that and more of Amara and Remo!

10/24/23:
I love everything Olivia Wildenstein writes, but this has got to be my favorite (that was so hard to say). I love these characters and the journey they go on. Its perfection and the pick me up I needed.

Such a good story!

I read this book in two days! I couldn't put it down and was so so happy when Cruz ended up being alive! The "prison" was crazy good and kind reminded me of the scorch trials movies. There needs to be one more book for Cruz!

Reckless Cruel Heirs (The Lost Clan #5)

Wow, this was just as breathtaking as the rest of this series!!🙏💕🌹🌵🌺
Princess Amara struck a bargain & the holder has called it due, she has no choice but to do what's requested of her.😟 Before she can do that her nemesis, Remo Farrow, takes her to the King, her beloved Iba - Dad, he informs her she's to be betrothed!😲💔 She's furious and feels betrayed. Back at the palace he explains his reasons & swears he won't make her marry if she agrees to go through with his plan!😕

After the betrothal ceremony Amara sneaks away to fulfil her bargain. She needs to find a secret portal to a prison realm that Gregor, Remo's Grandfather, made & try to find, then free one of its inmates!!😲 Unfortunately she discovers her fiance followed her & both of them have lost all their powers since their arrival. She doesn't know what's a greater threat to her life - the killer wolves, explosions, tigers & tornados or her fiance who hates her & always has!!💥

This was epic!!😍 It was like being inside of a twisted, sick & cruel survival show and never knowing what was happening or what to expect next!!😲 It was exciting but excruciating too.💔 They were scared, running on hopes & prayers but finally working together when it all gets worse!!😲💥

This is a wonderful book and a fantastic addition to this epic series!🌟

What a great ride! I was unsure if I was going to like the heroine in the beginning, but loved how her character evolved. Olivia Wildenstein has a way of weaving a story that draws you in and doesn't let go. The story of Remo and Amara is one you don't want to miss! Loved it!

This was definitely my favourite book in the series. It was filled with imagination, magic and intirigue. Plus two brilliant leads that go from enemies to lovers at the perfect pace. The book also had forced proximity, only one bed and no third act breakup so it made my heart full.
There was also one big twist that made me so shocked and happy and I didn't see it coming.
A brilliant end to the series...although I really hope it's not the end as I feel a certain Fae needs their own book.

Awesome! I absolutely adored ‘Reckless Cruel Heirs’. It’s my favorite book from The Lost Clan series and Amara and Remo the couple I love most. Because of their change of attitude and wonderful evolution in this book.

This is a great paranormal/fantasy romance from enemies to lovers that got me hooked from the very start. Amara and Remo are young and quite different. She is the princess of Neverra and he is in charge of her security and protection among other things. Their relationship is not friendly at all, their bickering is constant and apparently they loathe each other. However they are forced to get engaged for mysterious reasons and that’s only the beginning.

Amara and Remo end up together in a supernatural prison that looks like an amusement park full of horrors. And with no magic to use. I loved that they are alone together for most of their journey and are forced to team up if they want to survive. They have to face several trials and dangerous tests and that’s when they start to notice and learn about each other.

Their chemistry is amazing and their interaction keeps you reading through their adventures non-stop. I enjoyed a lot how their relationship grows and evolves and how their prejudices about each other are fading off as long as their journey goes on. Great writing, as always, and wonderful characters and thrilling plot made this book a delicious reading.

I’m sad that I finished this book because I didn’t want to let go of Amara and Remo. They’ve become one of my favorite book couples and I need more of them. Their jokes, their bickering, their sweetness, their understanding, their bravery, their unexpected and powerful feelings,... Hope we can get more of them in the near future.

This book as everything I didn't know that I wanted to have in this series. I devoured this series when I discovered it and I devoured this book but as fast.

Olivia welds her literary power to the top level with her writing int his story and you find yourself completely immersed in the story.
This book takes us into our characters futures with the next generation of Fae. They are just as addicting as their parents and just you wait to see the trouble they get themselves into. They  say you learn from your parents mistakes but these royals take it to a completely new level.

I fell hard and fast for this new cast of friends. I loved that we still got to see everyone we loved and it was even more fun to see them as parents. Watching the new generation cause trouble was exhilarating. I loved that we got to see how our HEA played out from the first set of books, and with this one it open the door to so many more possible stories.

One specifically that I know you will also be dying to read once you finish this book because guys, the twists in this book are like nothing you ever see coming.

I loved the play on tropes in this and I don't want to give anything way, but you will be just as sucked into this fantasy adventure romance as I was.

What an experience.

Ok, so Amara ranks up there with badarse female protagonists like Celaena, Feyre, Katniss, and Jude. In that order. She's smart and strong, but also vulnerable and flawed. Her dislike for Remo goes beyond his bullying of her but adds to the tension of the friendship they build. If that makes sense. Hate to love. Enemies to lovers. I love it. I'm here for it. All the time.

The author is an auto-read author. It started with her Boulder Wolf series (my favorite paranormal series ever) and Feather( SO GOOD), to her contemporary future release NOT ANOTHER LOVE SONG (highly recommend!) so it makes sense that I also loved this installment to The Lost Clan series.

Read this series. Read all of her series. Come back to me and thank me because you're welcome.

What a wild ride! This is a book that takes place in the world of the Lost Clan Series (which I highly recommend) and it is such a fun, sexy read. The main character, Amara, gets herself into a bit of a mess and finds herself trapped in a supernatural jail. There's plenty of action, danger, and sexy tension to keep you entertained, but my favorite parts by far were all the surprises and twists. I found myself saying "just one more chapter" over and over. I just couldn't stop reading!

Ohh I absolutely loved this book. This book starts off centuries later and it follows Princess Amara and Remo. The author does a wonderful job giving all the details at the beginning before we portal into another place. It was a fast pace read with twisters similar to Jumanji. If you enjoy enemy to lovers you will enjoy this book.

Absolutely was enthralled with this book

This story continues years after Ace has become King and has made the kingdom a better place for everybody. He and Cat have a daughter Amara and like her mother can’t seem to stay out of trouble. Where as Faiths son Remo born a few years before Amara has grown to be prepped as a soldier for the King and is straight lace so to speak, but him and Amara growing up has never seen eye to eye and though it will seem hate each other. Even more so when his grandfather Gregor and Ace decided to join the two in a arranged marriage until Ace can figure out if Gregor and his stepbrother Kingston (from his father the old king’s mistress) are plotting a takeover.

The plot only thickens and side tracks to a hold different journey I didn’t expect but loved as this story was nothing I imagined and got a totally exciting adventure plus the engaged couple Amara and Remo hate relationship enlightens us with there true feelings. I absolutely adored Remo.

This was Amara and Remo’s story. She’s Cat’s & Ace’s daughter where as he’s Faiths son and Sila’s (Cruz best friend)stepson snd Karsyn half brother. We also meet Giya and Sook who are Lily’s twins and there is a surprise at the end.

Loved it can’t wait for the next book!

I want to start by saying that I love Olivia Wildenstein. Her books are some of my favorites and I enjoy the worlds that she creates in each series.

This book; however, I have mixed feelings on. The story line and plot itself are fine and I enjoyed what happened, but I could not vibe with the ages of the characters. It started with the epilogue in the previous book, where the MMC talked about his attraction to the FMC that started when they were kids (her 12yrs, and him a few years older). This book takes place in present day, with her being 17yrs old at this point. While that is ok, there are sexual conversations/ innuendos, and even an on page interaction between the two characters. So technically she is underage, and he is of age. I just couldn’t vibe with that. Let me also add that when she is reunited with her parents, she gets grounded.

What really got me was the epilogue which is another age gap attraction that gave me the major ick. I know the characters are fae, but some of these characters are just too young, you know?

If the characters were just a couple years older, I would have enjoyed this book a lot more.

Loved being back in Neverra!

I have missed this world!! Amara and Remo fall into a prison world and this was one of the coolest and most well imagined prisons I have read. Different cells come with different challenges and the 2 enemies have to work together to meet each challenge and they discover maybe they don't hate each other as much as they thought. I couldnt put down the book once I started and I really enjoyed a the new characters, but also getting to read about the old ones again! If you loved the Lost Clan series then this is a must-read!!

Perfect continuation of this series

If the Hunger Games and Romeo and Juliet had a baby it would be this story. I loved the development of the relationship between these two characters, repressed feelings, misunderstandings, pride, friendship, devotion, and love, all intertwined with the politics and schemes of Neverra. Honestly I knew I was going to enjoy this book after the prologue. I really enjoyed the Lost Clan series, and it was awesome to catch a glimpse of the future and the possibility of hope for one more book.

Heart pounding

Olivia has an incredible talent for pulling you into her world. I would forget I was reading and my heart would be pounding right along with Reno and Amara. Their amazing chemistry reached off the pages and settled in my own heart for a bit. I dont remember the last time a book drew me in so strongly that I felt like I was living in a live action movie, rather than reading a story. So excited to read more of Olivia's books.

I didn’t know I even wanted this story. But I’m so glad Olivia wrote it. Remo and Amara’s story was nothing short of amazing. The characters evolved in such an honest way, it was refreshing.

**I will say, it’s been awhile since I finished the first three books and I managed to miss Lily’s story. I would highly recommend refreshing your memory with those before diving into this story.**

This is the fifth, and final, book in the Lost Clan series. . . And what a way to end it! This is a “generation” book, as it takes place about 18 -20 years after the events of Raging Rival Hearts, and the main characters are offspring of characters in the first 4 books. Amara, daughter of Ace and Catori, is Princess of Neverra. Remo is the son of Faith, an antagonist of Cat’s in the earlier books who becomes a friend. Their friendship is shattered when Faith learns of her fae ancestry and in doing so, finds out Cat’s involvement in her mother’s death. A political engagement is struck between Amara and Remo and it is fireworks from the beginning. These two despise each other, and don’t even try to hide their distain for each other. Through a series of events, they are thrown together in what can only be described as faerie prison, which is like a deadly game of Jumanji meets Hunger Games. This enemies to lovers story is a very satisfying read.

I loved this book! First, it was very nice to get caught up with characters that we have come to love from previous books. Second, the storyline was intriguing and well fleshed out. The seeds of this storyline were planted in the previous book and came to fruition in this book. The author does “fill in the blanks” so you wouldn’t be completely lost if you didn’t read the previous books, but I recommend that you do.

Amara has a close relationship with her parents, and she’s not a “flighty” girl per se. I admit that I was surprised at her acceptance of the arranged engagement when Ace explained why he needed to do it. She not only had a firm grasp of the politics, she did it because her father asked (and needed) her to do it. While Remo came off as a bit of a judgmental sanctimonious dude, it was obvious that part of his antipathy towards Amara was due to his attraction to her. His whole life he had been fed negative stories about her and her mother by Faith. Of course that was going to cloud his judgment and it felt like he didn’t want to be attracted to her so he fought it the only way he knew how, at a younger age, by bullying and antagonizing her. The equivalent of “yanking her braids” to the extreme. And yet, I never felt like he crossed a line with her. From the moment they entered the “prison,” he always seemed to care for her, her comfort and her safety. It was apparent that once they could both get over their dislike for each other, theirs was going to be a glorious, passionate pairing.

Ms. Wildenstein does an excellent job of both character and world building, and I have come to expect nothing less from her stories. She is also a master story teller that can pull out a twist that you never saw coming which all combines for an exciting and very satisfying read. I highly recommend this series to all fans of PNR books.

Reckless Cruel Heirs is another masterpiece in Olivia's collection of books. As a spin-off this book focuses more on the younger generation the children of our beloved characters. Younger generation books are some of my favourites as I always get so attached to the characters and never want to let them go. If Olivia decided to write about their whole lives I would eagerly devour every book! The lack of sleep I got whilst reading this story was so worth it and even if I'd wanted more sleep this book had me in its grasp and was not letting go for anything!

A lot of time has passed since Ace and Cat became Rulers of Neverah, since Lily and Kajika became an item ... since Cruz Vega sacrificed himself. But the years have not dulled the threat and danger posed by the manipulative, calculating conniving Warriff, Gregor Farrow. Faith now knows what Cat did to protect her father and there is anger and animosity between the Woods and the Farrows.

Amara Wood, is sassy, terrible at reading people, fearless and hates Remo Farrow with a passion! The bully who makes her life torturous and yet must marry him to save Ace's life. If that's not enough she is tricked and sucked into a supernatural prison made by Gregor with the one person she hates most as her protector. And all of their powers have gone, leaving her more vulnerable than she ever has in her life and her father nowhere around to protect her.

Remo Farrow is the surprising main man who will end up with our sassy heroine. He hates the Woods and most especially Amara .... or does he? Cruel, smug, arrogant are just a few words that Amara uses to describe the head of her Lucionaga Guard. But not all is as it seems. As Remo and Amara enter a fight for survival truths are revealed, Amara's opinions and views are questioned and thrown into doubt and the most unexpected surprises happen. Before long Amara begins to understand that she has gotten Remo wrong her entire life.

Olivia is one of the most spectacular authors I have had the pleasure to find , having the ability to get you instantly immersed and addicted to her stories and her wonderful characters. She is the most wonderful human being for including a certain scene which I won't spoil but everyone has to read this book to find it! Tears of absolute joy cascaded down my face at that particular scene and I needed serious help detaching my jaw from the floor!

I received a copy of this book from the author.
I think this is my favorite book of this series. It really built on everything that was written in the past 4 books; giving some minor characters a bigger role this time. It was also great to see what had happened to the MCs from the beginning of the series.

From the very first lines, the author grabbed me by the heart strings and took me on an emotional rollercoaster.
In addition to the Nevarrian world, this book made me discover the crazy world of the supernatural prison. The worldbuilding is fantastic and I could really feel like I was on this adventure with Amara and Remo. There is also a touch of sci-fi since this takes place an Earthly century later than book 4. I loved discovering what the author imagined life on Earth would be like in 100 years.
I originally found some words confusing like the use of Gottwa when referring to mom, dad, aunty and such but with the help of the handy glossary at the start of the book, it didn't take long to get used to all of it. It also gave me insight into the loving relationships between Amara and her family members to see her use these terms of endearment. I also felt that it reflected her acceptance of her mixed heritage, even when few of her peers did.
The writing was sophisticated yet simple which is always refreshing in YA literature. The author set the perfect pace for this action packed journey. Although I saw a pattern developing in the events of the supernatural prison, it did not feel repetitive at all and really kept me on my toes throughout the book.
And then there was the romance. This enemies-to-lovers was everything this type of romance needs. There was no Insta-love and the progression of feelings was so seamless that it is actually hard to pinpoint the exact moment when the relationship shifted. I never thought I'd have a crush on a boy named Remo but I do!
I am a huge fan of Olivia Wildenstein's writing and highly recommended this series. I could probably enjoy another 10 books in this series so I hope there will be more!
