The Halloween Bet

Rate this book
Dive bartender Blake Pritchard has zero interest in joining in the silliness of his town's Fall Festival, including a new ghost tour of a house that's definitely not haunted.

Blake's ex girlfriend and local historian Dahlia Jordan is determined to get Blake into the spirit, and bets him that he won't last one night at the haunted house without getting properly spooked.

This is a very quick, silly, sexy short-read stand alone about second chances. HEA, no cheating, no cliffhanger. Includes a dunk tank, pound cake, dubious points of interest and lots of other Halloween festival shenanigans.

This book contains graphic sexy times. Intended for readers 18 and older!

For a second chance this one wasn't bad and no one cheated!! So score!!! And Halloween double score!!!

Blake has been beating himself up for breaking up with the love of his life 2 years ago.. .. and its worse since shes back in town and always near him.. he is grumpy towards her but he is always doing things to be near her. So when she ask for help with the halloween festival he sorta puts up a fight but still gives in lol

Even making a bet to stay in A haunted place for his ex.. before they can even talk about their past creepy things start happening at the house causing Delilah to panic and Blake starts to head into protective mode..

Danger and sexy times in this house.. as they go back together.

No ow/om drama, no cheating, Slight drama, sexy times, No virgins

I absolutely love Halloween romance stories. This story was fun and sweet and sexy and a little spooky! Blake and Dahlia were awesome together. Blake didn’t want to admit that he still had feelings for Dahlia but he just couldn’t resist the pull she had on him. The two had a very interesting and turbulent Halloween and in the end it brought them closer together.

Safety and Spoilers
Completely safe. No ow/om drama but lots of other kinds of drama. Both celibate during their separation. No abuse!

I wanted to squeeze in one more Halloween story and I’m so glad I did!! I absolutely adored this!

This second chance romance novella was a perfect mixture of sweet and suspenseful and sexy.

Blake is deliciously grumpy and growly.
Dahlia is delightfully peppy and beautiful.
Put them together and what do you get?
Sparks and tingles galore! And feelings that never went away.

This quick read was cute, it was fun, and made my heart happy.

This was my first read by this author and I look forward to more!

Halloween story.
Blake and Dahlia were an item two years ago when he broke her heart and she left town.
Blake now the sole proprietor of the only bar in town still pines over his loss, she made him happy she made him smile he loved her enough to let her go. Dummy.
Dahlia is back after graduating college and receiving her hospitality and historic degrees. She is taking over the historic society. But she lives Halloween so this is their story.
Blake now grumpy and argumentative can't seem to say no to the always cheerful Dahlia, so when she needs someone to fill in for the town doctor at the dunk tank, he grumpily goes, but he can't help and rile her up on the walk over, their panter is infectious. So when she talks him into helping judge the pumpkin bunt cake contest, he grumpily agrees, and when she bets him the old Milton house is haunted he grudgingly takes the bet. But something is a miss when all the people she signed up for the ghost tour don't show up and the page for the tour has been erased from the towns website. What they both get is scared of of their minds Dahlia by fear of ghosts and Blake things become all to real. When he witnesses the love of his life have a break down he rushes into action the only way he knows how clothes off, non sexual skin contact. Yeah that works along with some apologizing and makeup sex. Only to be interrupted by a face in the mirror that is not theirs. Spooky, until Blake is kidnapped and thrown into a trunk? Apparently the mayor and his wife are up to no good. Dahlia is assaulted and tied to a chair. How does she get free, the ghost of the Milton House perhaps? So a year later a new mayor since the previous mayor Hall mysteriously disappeared a year ago, his wife and co conspirators are in jail, guess who the new mayor is, I'm not telling.
Happy Halloween
I received a advance copy of the story from the author for my honest review.

This Halloween romance was not entirely sure what it wanted to be. At first, it was a cute grumpy-sunshine second chance romance taking place during the town’s Harvest Festival. But then it took a romantic suspense turn out of nowhere, resulting in I was enjoying the former but for sure not the latter. It just didn't make sense. Also it was pretty obvious

Also there was a lot of ableist language with Blake referring to Dahlia as being crazy, mostly because of her enthusiasm for her job as Tourism Director. And when you pair that with

Character notes: Blake and Dahlia are both white and likely in their early 20s.

CW: assault and kidnapping, gaslighting of now deceased character, possible ghost, , past death by suicide, death of grandfather two years ago (heart attack), gender essentialism (not countered), ableist language, pregnancy epilogue

The Halloween Bet by Abby Knox was everything I needed it to be and more! Story of a small town with a lot of history, and two individuals that have even more shared history finding their way back to one another!
Blake and Dahlia haven't had the easiest time since their split, yet since her return to town six months ago, they can't help but gravitate to each other, especially her into the bar he now runs that he inherited from his grandfather. Dahlia has returned to run the tourism department in their small town, and just can't shake the feeling that there's things left unsaid between them, even if she's too scared to say anything. So she smiles, he frowns, they tease, and the tension builds for the reader's enjoyment! One dunking booth experience later and it's a bet to see who believes in ghosts, yet they come to realize that there's so much more riding on this bet than a night in a haunted house. Will she make him a believer?
I adored this story. Gruff Blake is a quintessential small town hunk of a hero that you can't help but fall for, and Dahlia is that ray of sunshine you always want shining in your life! From cakes to pies to hashtag sprees and haunted houses, this wonderful story has a bit of it all!
You won't regret picking up this book, and may it be festively spicy for you too!

The couple: Blake and Dahlia

Romance genre: friends to lovers
Length: 78 pages

Plot: Blake and Dahlia are exes, but living in a small town means that they run into each other from time to time. This time Dahlia is trying to get Blake in the Halloween spirit. She wants him to participate in the town's Halloween festivities. He is certain that she's being extra, as normal, and he certainly doesn't believe that the creepy old house is haunter - that's why he takes the bet (uh-huh, that's definitely the only reason). But could this holiday bring them back together? Will they survive the holiday at all? Some things are fated - the ghosts know!
Also, there's a suspense subplot involving a ghost, corruption, an old house, and some treasure.

Commentary: I always think second chance romances are tricky; if either of the people were too horrible when they were together before, I don't want them to get back together. You can forgive, but can you forget? You aren't worried about them doing [that] again? But in this case, I think it was simply immaturity and thoughtlessness on both parts. I wonder what even drew them together in the first place - stereotypical grumpy and sunshine. But Blake was cute the way he kept thinking of reasons to follow Dahlia around, and I love how she took advantage and signed him up for the dunk tank.

So, I'm sure I've read this one before, but for some reason never rated it, marked it as read, or reviewed it!
Well, I decided to reread this again, I'm trying to get in the Halloween mood for my crafts I'm currently doing so I figured what better book than a second-chance romance with a brooding male, who seems to make people around the town hate him along with a perky female who's all in the Halloween spirit!
Blake wants absolutely nothing to do with the Halloween shenanigans that Dahlia has organized for the town's Fall Festival. Yet, she somehow suckered him into filling in for the dunk tank, judging a pumpkin pound cake competition, and the worst thing she's sucked him into? A spur of the moment ghost tour of the little town, ending in a bet that she can get him to believe in ghosts.
What started out as a day full of nuisances, ends with a night that has turned Blake's life around. Now that he has Dahlia back in his life and in his arms he won't let her get away again.

**Notes on the story**
-Second Chance Romance
-No partners between the two year split
-Heroine a virgin before she got with hero
-Hero is definitely the kind of grumpy male that makes you laugh and think of ways to make him smile!

Right what I wanted for this spooky time of the year. It's cute, funny, and has the kind of ghostly attitude to match the atmosphere.

Small town ambience, a harvest festival full of activities to appeal to kids and tourists, and a little scary suspense plot are elements that kept me happily entertained. Now, the couple is just perfectly huggable. The grumpy bar owner and the cheery events organizer share a past, and I couldn't understand how they had separated when they had so much chemistry and feelings for each other.

I had a lot of fun as he is dragged into the festive activities against his will, but then he succumbs to everything she asks of him.

A good mix of naughty and sweet, especially with the Haunted House theme. This couple’s second chance is all the more tender and passionate because of their time apart. I liked the mischievous epilogue! This is a short story to savour like candy.

Seriously can you really get better then a Halloween themed second chance romance? I don't think so, and this is the perfect holiday read!! I loved everything about this story because it brought out my two favorite loves: a hot romance and some spooky laughs! This author did an amazing job of balancing the character's romance, with their past, the quarky town, the fun elements to make this the best story.

I loved the characters, their thoughts, actions and humor. I mean a grumpy like bartender, a happy go lucky lady and antics? Yep, loved it all!! This might be one of my favorites from thus author yet (and that's a bold statement because I love her writing). I highly recommend. I received an ARC and I am leaving an honest review.

Oh my heart! Abby Knox is becoming synonymous with adorable, sexy romances to this reader. Her characters are unique and you can't help but love them. The Halloween Bet was the best yet, sweet yet spooky! Blake and Dahlia were a couple until it all went wrong. She left town and he became a grumpy bartender. Now she is back and the two years she was gone haven't dimmed her sparkle. Working as the tourism manager for their town, she has pulled off an amazing Fall Festival. Now she wants him to help her and he cannot bring himself to resist. This couple was so freaking adorable, the banter and their inner monologue of how they really feel left me in a permanent state of delight! All the stars for Blake and Dahlia!

This was fun and cute. I read it really quickly, the chemistry was very good and the dynamic between Blake and Dahlia was really fun. It was clear how into each other they were and they had some really cute moments, as well as some really steamy ones.

I liked the external plot; there were some very creepy and spooky bits in it, though I did find the final reveal just a little bit Scooby Doo. But that said, the book was suitably spooky and was a perfect quick Halloween read.

Content Notes: Second chance, childhood sweethearts, bargains/deals/wagers, small town, Halloween, grumpy/sunshine.

I absolutely love this Halloween read by Abby Knox. ‘The Halloween Bet’ is a thoroughly enjoyable quick read just in time for fright night. I adore Blake in all his flannel shirt, perma scowl, sexy goodness. He’s a grump and nobody writes grumpy male leads like Abby Knox. Delilah is delightful, she’s a fireball of energy and sweeter than Halloween candy. Thrown together during the fall festival these two get their second chance at happily ever after and it is adorable. Treat yourself to this gem of a book - add this charming book to your TBR list and read it while handing out candy 😉.

Oh What a Story!!

I adored everything about this insta love Halloween story!!

Dahlia is organizing the Halloween festivities for her town when she encounters a small problem. She than turns to the only one who can help. Her hunky ex Blake.

Blake isn’t in the mood for Halloween cheer but there’s no way he can turn down his beautiful ex. So when she needs his help with a haunted house, he’s all in.

Very quick, fun read with a Halloween theme. I enjoyed it very much. 5 star read!!

A Spooky 2nd Chance Romance

This 2nd chance at love short story with a Halloween theme was alot of fun anf perfect for this time of year!

Blake & Dahlia were still hurting years after they'd broken up, never moving on and regretting what had tore them apart.

A fun filled town Halloween festival is just the place to bring them back together.

This story had a bit of a spooky mystery / who done it that fit perfectly for this time of year.

Short, Sweet, and full of Halloween fun!

A first by Abby Knox for me, and I loved it! Super cute read for the Halloween season! With just a little bit of mystery added in to keep it interesting! I love novellas, but even more when the main characters also have a history (in this case, second chance) because although the book may be small, it doesn't seem like instalove! And I absolutely love it!
Definitely give this a read to get you in the Halloween spirit!

The Halloween Bet

What a fantastic story! I was not expecting this to be a bit of a mystery/kidnapping. This second chance story is steamy and 100% safe from abuse, on/ow drama and features a hero and heroine that never got over their feelings for each other and stayed true to each other while separated. A Happily Ever After with an epilogue 1 year out.

Okay this is MUCH better than the Saved For Me or whatever the Lars book is called.

First of all I like grumpy M. And he is not your usual grumpy caveman either. He has real regrets and somewhat believable backstory.

Also I was properly spooked out by their activities at the haunted house. So koodos to Abby Knox.

The one critique I have, which knocked the novella from 4 to 3, is I did not feel much during the smut section. But other than that I am well pleased that in this genre there is actually a non-offensive storyline without the obsession on virginity or baby making. Even if it does show up in the epilogue.

"I love you, D. I've never stopped loving you."

A second chance holiday novella featuring grumpy Blake and sunshine Dahlia. This was a quick, fun read, and the chemistry between the pair was palpable. The plot was interesting and fun, but towards the end it became very ridiculous, over the top, and the pacing was all over the place.

It was still a fun read.

Short, sweet and sexy. I love a good second chance love story. Blake and Dahlia dated a few years ago and now they're living in the same town again, throwing sparks off each other. But this Halloween a bet makes their hearts (and other parts) grow fonder.

Dahlia was lucky she was saved by a ghost. I think the mayor's wife would have hurt her. Blake did everything in His power to get back to Dahlia. I loved their story.
