"The Vicissitudes of Mayfly World", was first published in 2019. It tells the mental journey of an intellectual in the past 90 years and is a comprehensive review of past life.
Zi Zhongyun was born in Shanghai in 1930. He once studied at Yaohua School (Tianjin Yaohua Middle School), Yenching University, and National Tsinghua University. From the 1950s to the 1960s, he worked as an English and French interpreter for international conferences and visited many countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America for work reasons. From 1956 to 1959, he was stationed in Vienna as the assistant and translator of the Chinese secretary. Participated in the reception of Nixon's visit to China. Afterward, he was in charge of working with the United States. In 1996, Zi Zhongyun retired, and continued to engage in academic activities, while writing some essays and essays, many of which were completed after retirement.

A person's personal destiny is inseparable from the development of the times. A grain of sand of the times, falling on a person's head, is like a mountain. With the slight push of the times, individuals rely on this trend to rise to the top. There are too many uncontrollable factors in life. Whether it is reading or experiencing it yourself, if you can have some insights and apply these insights to your own life, it will not be a waste of time and energy. Life is alive, but death is inevitable. Too old, being able to record the past of life in a book, in a sense, is also a way to continue one's spirit. We read the past in order to predict the future. We read other people's stories in order to write our own.
A gentleman is magnanimous, and a villain is long-suffering. It's not that a gentleman doesn't make mistakes. People make mistakes, and when they make mistakes, they have to stand at attention, admit it and get beaten. Human instinct is naturally to evade responsibility, make big things into small things, and make small things into small things. Acquired rationality is to fight against this instinct. If you have the courage to do something against the rules, don't you have the courage to bear the corresponding consequences? Whether the punishment you face is the lightest warning, or the heaviest impact on your future, as long as the review process is fair and objective, and you are convinced in your heart, you should face it bravely. Looking at the experience of successful people in the past, graduating from an excellent university is often the cornerstone of a future career. It is true that we can cite many counter-examples of low energy in prestigious schools or high energy in ordinary schools. But in terms of probability, if the university is spent in a famous domestic school or even a world-famous school, it may be the best start for a person to leave the family and enter society. While studying in university, the most important thing is to acquire knowledge and prepare for employment after graduation. But the people we have met, the world we have seen, and the ideological influence we have experienced may benefit us throughout our lives. That's part of the reason why you want to go to a prestigious school.
Under special circumstances, it is necessary to concentrate human strength as much as possible and twist it into a rope so that the greatest possible strength can be exerted. The benefits of doing this are unquestionable because it will reduce internal friction between different points of view. But on the other hand, the disadvantage of this approach is also obvious. When the dissent no longer exists, the self-correcting ability of this force will be greatly reduced. If the finger that guides this force is pointed in the right direction, the torrent will be unstoppable. If this force is directed in the wrong direction, the harm could be unprecedented. Of course, even the so-called right or wrong depends on the time and situation, and there is no objective absolute standard. Therefore, thought remolding should probably only be used as a special method, not as a routine method, just as the styles and strategies required for conquering the world and governing the world may be quite different. Even if there is a problem with the background, in a special period, people with professional talents may be used eclectically. If an organization wants to develop and do things, it must need talents. Especially in difficult times, the selection criteria for talents may be relaxed. So from a personal point of view, to make yourself valuable, especially professional value, you must make yourself somewhat scarce or irreplaceable. No one knows the ups and downs of the future. I use the world from time to time, and the hero is not free when transported away. What we can grasp is ourselves; no matter how many ups and downs there are in our hearts, we must first cultivate ourselves into a useful special screw.
The importance of work to a person lies in the fact that the higher the platform where the job is located, the more opportunities it can push people to accept a higher mission. Especially young people whose families can hardly provide resources need to be on a bigger platform so that it is possible to increase their knowledge and talents as much as possible as quickly as possible. Of course, if you want to enter such a large platform, you have to put in a lot of hard work; after getting in by luck, it is only the beginning of a grand expedition, not the end of a peaceful and peaceful journey. If you are lucky enough to enter a national or even world-class platform, to meet all kinds of outstanding people, even great people who have left traces in history, or to participate in historical events that have been recorded in the annals of history, you need to work hard and be careful.
