I appreciate the author's intention to write about "normal people", in this case the life and adventures of several Japanese in Paris. However I don't feel the exploration has been deep enough. The characters and spirits of these people stay flat with superficial description of their life events, lacking glows from inside.

Maybe it's me that expect too much. If I just view it as a documentary instead of some writings with literary intention, it would deserve more stars.
