Need more work

I really like this but it needs more details in the book and I think that it should need more work and do not just tell what happened

Wouldn’t it be great if you could have a “do-over” day - a chance to re-think the things that went wrong in your day, and re-do your reactions to them. This charming little book shows us what happens when Layla, preparing for bed, shares with her grandma the frustrations of her day and gets a chance to re-process them.

Who wouldn’t be frustrated by not getting to eat nine cookies, even though nine is your very favorite number? Or having to let your younger siblings choose the bed time story, or not getting to wear your rain boots to ballet class.

By thinking about what happened, how it made her feel, and how she acted, Layla and her huggable grandma gently lead the way to helping children first become aware of, then frame and process their emotions, allowing them to manage their reactions in a way that makes them feel safe and in-control.

The sweetly troubling trials of Layla’s day will be instantly relatable to young children - who are encouraged at the end of the story to think about their own examples of candidate frustrations for a “do-over” day.

With lovely illustrations, a wonderful story and valuable messaging, this delightful book is sure to charm parents and children alike.

A great big thank you to Edelweiss, the author, and the publisher for a review copy of this book. All thoughts presented are my own.

Layla is being tucked into bed by her grandma. Poor Layla complains of a terrible day. She wishes she could start all over. Her mother refused to let her wear her mermaid costume to the dentist. Layla’s brother and sister got their way with everything. The cat wouldn’t sleep with her. Dad refused to let her wear snorkel fins in the bathtub.

A strange thing happened after Layla reviewed the day. She realizes that maybe things didn’t go so badly, after all. The best part of the book comes at the end of the story. Inserro provides event scenarios of a child’s bad day. Then she gives two different ways to handle the event. The scenarios deal with feelings like jealousy, anger, frustration, and sadness. Children are encouraged to think of similar situations which caused them to have a bad day. Could they think of different ways to handle them?

Tartan’s illustrations are colorful and expressive. They portray the events and feelings of the characters in a way that children can understand. I would highly recommend the book to parents and teachers of elementary school children.

I felt that the story was very quick and next thing I knew it was the end. I didn’t feel like there was a complete ending. Layla talks about all of the unfairness of her day caused by her siblings and parents. She speaks to her grandma about her day before bed and her grandma just tells her there’s always the next day, or tomorrow, to have a better day. I was kind of hoping the story would give insight to Layla’s tomorrow and how she was able to make it a better day based on the things that she encountered the previous day.
I liked the quick message the book had about how we may have a day that we don’t necessarily like or enjoy having, but there is always tomorrow or another day to have a better day. I feel for young children it is a good message to learn, and it is one adults tend to forget and get fixated on how a bad day equals a ‘bad life’.
I felt that the illustrations were in good competition with the white on the pages and words. Everything was equally laid out amongst the pages.

The Do-Over Day is the story of Layla as she lay in bed thinking about the day she's had and she tells her gran she'd like a do-over day to fix all the things that went wrong.

This is an interesting idea for a book and it makes you think about whether things are really as bad as they seem and how you could make them better maybe by starting again the next day. The book spends a lot of time going over the bad parts of the day but only a few pages showing what Layla would have liked the day to look like. It would have been nice to see more of this to balance out the negative outlook she has on the day for the first half of the book.

The illustrations are cartoon styles and lots of fun to look at. They show Layla's feelings well through the book and it's nice to see her and her grandmas relationship and the support the characters give when chatting through the story. This is a good book but it would have been good to see more of the positive and imaginative side of Layla too.

The Do-Over Day is a Children's Book written by the author Julia Inserro and illustrated by Miro Tartan. A little girl Layla is deep in her thoughts. Her day didn't went right so she needed a do-over day. This book is an amazing book that teaches kids if their day has went wrong, they can have do-overs.

It is a well written book. I could totally relate to this book as some days are the worst. Cover photo of this book is nice and title is suitable. The examples given at the end of the book gonna help not only kids but to adults also. I like to strongly recommend this book to readers of all ages. The concept and the way this book is presented is amazing. I really loved it.

If I am gonna have a bad day next time, I am gonna sit and analyze what went wrong and what I could do to make it better next time.

What would you do differently if you could relive a bad day over again? Well, what a child considers a bad day might not seem so bad to you, and you may not want to do it over again. And when you think about, a lot of things that seemed bad at the time, with a little perspective, may not have really been that bad.
Layla had a bad day and tells her grandma that she wants a do-over. But when asked what she would do differently next time, Layla thinks about it for a while and then figures out there are very few things she actually would have done differently. However, she would have reacted differently to the minor insults she encountered throughout the day. This is a good book to teach children that not all problems are as monumental as they seem at the time.

This book is a wonderful not Groundhog day book. This do over Day means, "when things don't go well you try to have a better day tomorrow. ". Which is a wonderful way to think of it. Kayla is telling her Grandmother about the things she wishes could be done differently. These things are very important to kids. Her sister Nina wore her favorite socks and she had to wear white. As we all know plain white socks is not our Layla. She tells her Grandma what she could have done differently. What else happened to her? You get the fun of listening/reading to find out more about her day. Do you sometimes need a do-over day? I know I do.

😀Cute story & excellent problem-solving 💭exercise at end💡

I found this little story quite fun, with a child listing for her supportive grandmother all of her disappointments and frustration with the things that did not go her way throughout the day. Small things but to a child they can seem so much bigger!

Then grandma encourages her to consider how the same situations could go better if viewed or handled differently. And after the story's conclusion with a less upset little girl, the book gives some concrete suggestions for how to change feelings and outcomes for the better.

A very worthwhile little gem with some cute and whimsical artwork😊.

Cute story

Layla had a bad day and tell her Grandma about it and explains she wants a do-over day. A do-over day is when you would do things differently the next day. She tells her grandma she didn’t get to wear her mermaid costume to the doctor or wear rain boots for ballet class. She didn’t get to sit in the grocery cart with her siblings nor did she get to pick the bedtime story. When he Grandma asks her how she would do things differently on do-over day, Layla realizes her day wasn’t that bad and that certain things that occurred made sense. We all have bad days and I like the idea of reflecting on those days and learning from them.

Exactly the Book I needed as an adult today!

This book was super funny as it shows how “rough” our kids think they have it. The elevator buttons made me laugh out loud since my kids fought about that just yesterday. The little things kids take to heart can weigh on them. This book teaches kids that when things don’t go their way to reflect on it, but start with a fresh outlook the next day. What an awesome message for kids to learn!

Everyone has those days when things don't go as planned, and kids need to learn how to deal with adversity. I love that the main character realizes why her wants and wishes weren't appropriate choices. I also enjoyed the situational role playing after the story that is sure to spark good conversations.

Talking through what was good and bad about the day is a good life lesson in conflict resolution.

Great job on the story and the illustrations!

This story is an amazing story about how sometimes we have a really bad day and we want to have a do over on our day. I think this is a great book to have students read because it helps open the eyes to that everyone has a bad day, but we always have another chance to make it better the next day. I will have this book in my classroom library because I think students need to read things that they can relate to just so they know others have gone through what they have gone through.

Everyone Needs a Do-over sometimes.

Cute book to help children process when their day doesn’t go exactly as they’d like. It helps teach them how to turn those negative thoughts into more positive thoughts and also remind them that tomorrow could be better. The illustrations are cute as well. I really like the additional examples at the back of the book.

Great for children!

This book does a good job at representing what being an older sibling can be like. I like that she realizes that even though today might’ve not been super great, she can change up some stuff tomorrow to make her day even better. I think that’s a good lesson for kids to learn as they are growing up. Overall an excellent book for children.

Tomorrow is a new day

Don’t we all wish for a Do-Over Day from time to time? Little Layla keeps a positive attitude after a really bad day because, after all, tomorrow she can start again.

Excellent

My children absolutely adore this book. Reading literature is so important to the development of a child's mind, and I cannot think of thing I would rather do then sit down to read to them in the evenings. Imagination and growth are so vital in those so young.

Very cute

Very cute book that prompted a useful conversation with my 7 year old, who also enjoyed the book. Personalize the note cards at the end to situations relatable to your child. :)

We all need a do over day!

This book is helpful in teaching kids perspective. While things might appear a certain way, by using reframing it may not be as bad as we think it is. Great story and creativity!

this was a good book because it was about a little girl telling her grandma all the things that went wrong that day. Then the grandma says so you want a do-over day, the girl then starts to say that the things that happened during that day aren't so bad.

Thinking book for the child

My 6 yr old grandson didn't like this story quite as much, but I believe it's A very good and applicable lesson. Teaches children maybe things weren't as bad as they thought, that even they wouldn't change everything if they could do it all over again.

What a great book. We all need do-over days. My Littles and I had good discussion over how to make better decisions, listening, and how to be alright when things don't go our way. The relationship between the young girl and the grandmother were awe-inspiring.

Everyone needs a do-over!

Great little book that puts a positive spin on a day full of negatives. I loved how Grandma was able to get the main character (I don’t think a name was given) to think about her day and realize it wasn’t really that bad after all.
