Billionaire Luke Devereaux gets what he wants and what he wants right now is to bring down the shady organization threatening his family. Teaming up with the FBI is his only option--even if that option comes in the sultry Evelyn Price, the ice-princess who's all business.
Refusing to be distracted by the sexy, rich playboy, Evelyn forces herself to stay focused on the case, gearing up for the criminal takedown of her entire career. As the enemy closes in with Evelyn as its next target, it's up to Luke to keep them out of danger. The more they work to protect each other, and fight for control, the harder it is to resist their undeniable attraction.
And the one thing Evelyn has learned from working with him is that Luke Devereaux gets what he wants.
Mallory Crowe has lived in Michigan her whole life and has been in love with romance ever since she'd skip to the end of every novel, just to make sure the hero and heroine survived and ended up together. She lives with her husband and three dogs. When she's not writing, she's spending too much time in front of the TV, hiking, or working with various animal rescues.
The third book in the Devereaux Billionaires by Mallory Crowe. FBI agent Evelyn Price feels it is necessary to get closer to Luke Devereaux to get the information on Thirteen Stars that she needs to crack this case so she poses as a winner of a essay to get an office near Luke's. Luke isn't thrilled at first but then he starts seeing Evelyn as more than an annoying FBI Agent.
Okay, so there is a plotline that started in book one of the series and continues on through the series. Evelyn Price is the FBI Agent brought in to investigate the situation that started in book one. Evelyn was once assigned to the FBI in Texas and longs to be reassigned there someday. But a bad situation made the transfer from Texas necessary. Luke and Evelyn has a bit of a "love to hate" thing going at first but when they start working closer together their attraction to one another gets out of control. It's a good continuation of the series.
This book was full of suspense, steamy scenes, off the charts chemistry and a fantastic role reversal. Instead of the tough alpha guy being the protector, it was a bad-ass female FBI agent keeping Luke safe and kicking ass.
My Thoughts This is a stand alone in the Billionaires in the City series, and while it can mostly be read by itself there were so many things happening and backstories weaved into the story that I think I would have benefited from reading the others first. I enjoyed the fast pace of the story and the banter through out the book. It was also refreshing that Luke was not an alpha billionaire that demanded everything and got pissy when he didn't get his way. He may have stacked the deck to get his way but he wasn't overly pushy and my way or the highway as so many are today.
This is the story of Luke Devereaux, a billionaire mixed up with white collar criminals and Evelyn Price, the tough FBI agent tasked with protecting/helping bring them down. They start the book fighting all the time and hating each other, which of course leads to smoking chemistry down the line. I didn't really understand why they hated each other from this book, but maybe it was better explained in the previous book.
Things moved pretty quickly for the case and the duo's slow burn of a relationship. Once they realized their attraction it was hard to ignore. So much so that Evelyn was distracted from her job and tried to step back to focus on the case. There was angst and drama and suspense right up until the very last page that kept you wanting to know what would happen next. That made this book a fun quick read.

Luke Devereaux is the dominate, controlling brother/relative of the group. If you’ve been following the series, you know the things has as done in the name of “family”. He is the face of DevX Tech and has no desire to have any sort of long term relationship, no commitment, no strings, that’s all he thinks he needs in his life.
Evelyn Price is the FBI agent that has been involved with DevX trying to bring down Thirteen Stars. An in-field injury was the cause for her transfer to New York City. Now all she wants is to close this case so she can go home.
If you’ve ever played with magnets that are repelling from each other and then flipped them and watch the sudden attraction happen, that’s Luke and Evelyn. We start the story with the two not being able to be in the same room and Luke not taking or returning Evelyn’s calls. It doesn’t take long for circumstances to shift then it’s time to enjoy an action packed ride of action, danger, and sparks flying.
I have to say this is the moment where I hate reading a series before it’s all published. I want the next book and I know I can’t get it! Okay Mallory, I’m waiting….impatiently as always.
I would recommend this book to adults that enjoy stories that are funny, steamy, suspenseful, and romantic, with strong characters both male and female.

REVIEW: TESTING LUKE (originally titled TESTING THE BOSS) is the sixth installment in Mallory Crowe’s contemporary, adult BILLIONAIRES IN THE CITY and the third installment in the Devereaux Billionaires romantic, suspense series. This is CEO billionaire Luke Devereaux, and FBI agent Evelyn Price’s storyline. Although TESTING LUKE can be read as a stand alone I would recommend reading the series in order as the threats and plots against the family continue to build throughout each storyline. Each of the storylines is interconnected with the characters crossing over between installments.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Luke and Evelyn) TESTING LUKE is a revealing storyline that begins to expose the people behind the threats against the Devereaux family. The group known as the Thirteen Stars, a white-collar criminal ring, has been trying to get Luke Devereaux on their side. With the assistance of the FBI, and the undercover presence of Evelyn Price, Luke tries to ferret out information about the high powered businesses and the people involved. What ensues is the collapse of the undercover operation and several attempts on Luke and Evelyn’s lives as someone is always one step ahead of Luke and Evelyn’s plans. Evelyn has her suspicions; Luke is oblivious but hints at a possible suspect; this reader was spot on with the guilty party(s) involved.
The initial relationship between Luke and Evelyn is caustic and bitter, but the sexual tension runs high throughout the story. Evelyn is an FBI agent who wants nothing to do with privileged rich boys with too much time on their hands who want to play cops and robbers. Already recovering from a gunshot wound, Evelyn finds herself in New York ‘babysitting’ Luke Devereaux while he tries to infiltrate the Thirteen Stars. Luke, on the other hand, takes an immediate liking to the acerbic FBI agent, and tries to break through Evelyn’s barriers and walled heart. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate, although our heroine believes she has crossed the line between her job and her heart.
The secondary characters include several of the previous storyline couples and characters: Emma Devareaux and Jace Lance: Michael Devereaux and Lori Briggs; and Luke’s assistant Cali who keeps her finger on the pulse of everything in Luke’s personal and business life.
The world building continues to focus on the threats against the Devereaux family and their billion dollar enterprise DevX that provides cyber protection software to some of the largest defense contractors in the USA. The group known as the Thirteen Stars continues to pursue the Devereaux family and with Luke’s story line some of the missing information as to the who, what and why is slowly revealed. This particular ARC of the series began in book four (Trusting the Boss). TESTING LUKE ends on a bit of a cliffhanger.
Mallory Crowe’s BILLIONAIRES IN THE CITY/ DEVEREAUX BILLIONAIRES is a series focusing on white-collar crime, intrigue and high stakes revenge. There are moments of mystery and suspense, wrapped in a building romance between two people whose lives have crossed paths time and again. The premise is entertaining, and full of twist and turns with plenty of drama, betrayal and emotion; the characters are likeable and well developed- strong willed and independent thinkers; the romance is a build up to a profession of love. Mallory Crowe’s BILLIONAIRES IN THE CITY/DEVEREAUX BILLIONAIRES is a high stakes, who-dun-it, where revenge is the ultimate sin.
The book is about an FBI agent and CEO Luke Devereaux.. Being typical powerful CEO he gets what he wants. What he wants is Eve but, she wants nothing to do with him. After the tensions keeps building between them both give in. Predictably something happens to the female lead which in this case Eve. Luke goes all alpha caveman mode to protect what is his and his loved ones. Untrue Mallory Crowe fashion she provides us with angst, suspense till the very end. She keeps you constantly at the edge of your seat. Also keeps you wanting more. She never disappoints. The only thing that the story line was a lil bit predictable. Over rating 3 stars.

This was a really enjoyable book. I loved the way Luke's arrogant, kind of cocky attitude played off of Emily's slightly snarky, no nonsense attitude. Luke's loyalty to his family made him more lovable. Their relationship was often playful, and fun. Every so often, the suspense had you holding your breath, waiting for the outcome. I did like the fact that this was a complete book for Emily and Luke. At the same time, right at the end, the writer introduced information that would allow you to follow a story line in the next book without being a cliffhanger in this one.
This book was a suspenseful, romantic, steamy, fun read, and I would recommend it.
I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I received an ARC Copy in return for an honest review so here it goes:
I fell inlove with Luke & Evelyn. The way have a love hate relationship is funny at times.
This book is well written and will keep you captivated and wanting more.
The way Evelyn have conflicting emotions about her job and unexpected attraction to Luke makes tou wonder if they will give in to their feelings. Well you jave to read this book to find out.
I would tecommend the book and promise tou a ride of tour life. I just couldn't put the book down once i started to read and that is what i love about this author.
Having found this book free I wasn't sure if it was a standalone or not. It did have a lot of references about other characters and past events that I had no idea what they were talking about though. It was kinda predictable, sex scenes and a bit of bad language. Ok I guess but the earlier books need to be read I think.
Just okay read and although I liked the characters there was a lack of connection for me. FBI working undercover for someone she doesn’t like yet quickly succumbs. She came off as arrogant and hard, he was okay but I just didn’t feel it. Not looking for the next.
This being the third book in a series and I had not read the first two, I was a little lost. It was definitely not a stand alone. However I enjoyed what was there. It was mostly about the sexual actions of and FBI agent and the man she was protecting..
I enjoyed the third book in the Devereaux billionaires series. I enjoy the mix of romance and mystery. Looking forward to the next book when Roarke gets his HEA and resolves the issue with his brother Luke.
Evelyn never really liked not being to do her job right, Luke just doesn't seem like the approachable type but he is part of this investigation. So many twist and turns. But they seem to bring the best of them out
If you are considering reading Testing the Boss, you might to stop…back up…and start with Book 1 of this series. Seriously, folks, though Book 6 was a great stand-alone, there are enough hints of past drama/events that I find myself wanting to know all the secondary characters full stories/HEAs.
Based on the titles of the rest of the books, I have to admit I thought this one would be heavy on sensual and light on substance. I’m happy to report that was not the case. Yes, there are plenty of steamy scenes between FBI agent Evelyn Price and CEO Luke Devereaux. After all, he is a man who goes away what he wants. Surprisingly, even to himself, what he really wants is tough as nails Evelyn. It didn’t take long for their open hostility towards one another to be revealed as undeniable attraction. With our handsome hero taking the lead, Eve didn’t stand a chance against this handsome, alpha protective billionaire, who isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty and bloody in order to protect her and others he cares about.
Eve, who after being shot while on duty in Texas, was transferred to New York to wrap up a case that obviously began in a previous book. She ends up working as a pretend intern, next door to Luke’s office, waiting for criminal contact to ensue so she can apprehend the bad guys and get back to her life in Texas. With everyone but Luke kept in the dark, there is quite a bit of suspense, betrayal, and duking it out with criminals while the storyline unfolds. I loved how Eve at one point tied up Luke to keep him out of harm’s way, only to have him break loose and get right back into the thick of things. Ultimately, Luke’s interference and wealth of resources ends up being a big help in closing the case.
So, my fellow romance book-loving friends, I conclude this NetGalley review with a high recommendation you check out this stand-alone sequel. The author’s writing style certainly agreed with me. Thank you, Ms. Crowe, for giving us a strong, feisty heroine who met her match in our handsome “not afraid to take matters into his own hands” hero. Well done, well done…indeed.

The animosity between Luke Devereaux and Evelyn Price is so strong they can barely be in the same room without arguing. This animosity can be dangerous considering she is his handler with the FBI and they are trying to bring down the treacherous Thirteen Stars Organization.
Will Luke and Evelyn be able to work together or will they put the case in jeopardy? What will happen if they do bring down Thirteen Stars? Genuine animosity or a mask to hide deeper feelings? The answers are in the book so get to reading!
Testing the Boss, the 6th book in the Billionaires in the City series is a great 5 star read. Romance, Hot Alpha, Strong Female, Suspense
The door to his office opened and he looked up, half expecting to see Cali standing there again. But it wasn't’ Cali. It was his worst nightmare.
This is Luke and Evelyn’s story.
The relationship between Luke and Evelyn is bitter, but the sexual tension runs high. Evelyn is an FBI agent who finds herself in New York working as an intern in Luke’s office while he tries to infiltrate the Thirteen Stars. Luke starts to take a liking to Evelyn, and tries to break through her barriers. As things move forward Evelyn finds herself very attracted to Luke and can no longer to resist him. The sex is very intense between them, you can feel something building. Will Evelyn be able to say goodbye and go back to Texas?
While reading this book my mind was always trying to figure out who the rat could be. Also the love, hate thing between Evelyn and Luke in the beginning was great. There are moments of mystery and suspense. The story is entertaining, and full of twist and turns with plenty of drama, betrayal and emotion;
The secondary characters include several of the previous storyline couples and characters:
I’ve never been one to half-a$$ things. I tend to dive straight in.
Testing the Boss can be read as a stand alone, however I would recommend reading the series in order as the threats and plots against the family continue to build throughout each storyline. Each of the storylines is interconnected with the characters crossing over between installments. Testing the Boss does end with a little cliffhanger. Thank you Mallory for another great read. Can’t wait for the next installment.

This is Evelyn & Luke 's story . I LOVED FBI agent Evelyn Price 's character : she truly is a strong, brave and opinionated woman with no fear of letting her feelings be known. But at the same time, when you are being swept away with this story , inside her mind you get those brief glimpses of "her" that shows you MORE. If you're familiar with the other Devereaux serie ,you certainly know how crazy-hot the Devereaux brothers are . Sexy Luke , handsome as sin , bossy , arrogant , cocky alpha male , but oh so protective and loyal to his family . This story takes him to a whole new level which I loved very much !!! Although they can 't stand each other in the beginning , Evelyn remind herself each time this is business , she has to protect Luke and really shouldn't get involved with him personally but the chemestry between these two becomes more & more scorching hot day after day and is followed by steamy sex scenes . If you are not familiar with the Devereaux family , you really should read from the beginning to get the full spectrum and start with " Trusting The Boss " ( with cousin Emma Devereaux book 5 and tall , sexy , dreamy, handsome Michael Devereaux in " Touching The Boss " book 6 ) because the plot is rather intriguing and very exciting . Of course they can all be read as stand- alones, but they are oh so much better read collectively . Testing the Boss is a breathtaking, steamy , exhilarating, and beautiful hartmelting romance , the dialogue flows flawlessly and the characters and the interaction between them are excellent. Of course they can all be read as stand- alones, but they are oh so much better read collectively . Thanks Mallory for writing this really intriguing plot against the Devereaux family . I truly enjoyed it together with the useful information at the end of this book that gives away about the next one to come . I can only highly recommend "Testing The Boss " to everyone !!! Now I am anxiously awaiting " Taming The Boss " Recieved this book as ARC in exchange for an honest review .

This is the sixth book in Mallory Crowe’s series but Testing the Boss is actually the second book in the Devereaux chapter. I have only read the first book Devereaux book, and I enjoyed that one immensely. So I was definitely looking forward to reading this one. And I was not disappointed. However, even though this book can be read as a stand-alone, I do feel that I missed something by not having read the books that came first. Whenever I met a character, I often wondered about their background and story. However, I still enjoyed both of these books, but I think I would have appreciated them a lot more if I had read the others first.
This book has an interesting premise. The hero, Luke Devereaux is a billionaire but the heroine, Evelyn, is an FBI agent. In fact, she was in Ms. Crowe’s last book as part of the rescue team. As an FBI agent, she has to be independent, brave, adventurous and willing to follow orders from her bosses. This is difficult for Luke who is used to getting everything he wants.
The plot is about a “shady organization” that is threatening Luke’s family. Of course, he believes he can take care of them on his own. Unfortunately, Evelyn’s orders are to protect Luke and bring down this organization herself.
Therefore, Luke and Evelyn are always arguing about everything. But the sparks from their chemistry is overwhelming! In spite of this, Luke begins to care about Evelyn and wants to protect her and keep her out of the problem. Unfortunately for him, Evelyn’s job is to protect Luke, and she wants to keep him away from the danger. This is one of the things I enjoyed best about the book – Evelyn is the protector and Luke is supposed to be the “protectee.”
I would highly recommend this book. It is an exciting romantic suspense thriller with lots of danger and adventure. This book works very well as a stand-alone. However, I suggest you read, at least, Trusting the Boss first.
Mallory Crowe does it again with book six, 'Testing the Boss' of the 'Billionaires in the City' series. This is a great read that I highly recommend. This is the second book in this series that concentrates on the Devereaux brothers. We met two of them in book four when they were trying to protect their cousin, Emma. In book seven the third brother, Rourke, will be featured as he has been estranged from his brothers for years.
Arrogant, self-confident, conceited, and handsome as sin Luke Devereaux is a confirmed bachelor who prefers one night stands or short-term hook-ups. Commitment is not in his vocabulary and he is perfectly content to have beautiful, loose-moraled models on his arm and in his bed. He is working closely with the FBI, picking up where his brother left off, to bring down a financial crime organization to protect the lives of his family and others at risk.
The sultry Evelyn Price, FBI lead on this investigation, rubs him the wrong way and the feeling is mutual. They can hardly tolerate being in each others company so he avoids her at all cost. Unfortunately, that does not lend to success when fighting crime. Dislike or hate is definitely not what these two are fighting. They are at war with the undeniable heat and passion they evoke in each other. Evelyn's job becomes one of protection, shadowing Luke twenty-four-seven, keeping him safe until they bring down the bad guys. When both their lives are in danger they work diligently to protect each other. Resisting their attraction becomes their greatest conflict.
Wow, another great read! Please start at the beginning of this series. You will have a greater understanding of how these people connect which makes a much more interesting and easy-to-understand story.

Although each book in this series is about a different couple, there is a common thread running through all of them. I read the last book in this series and really enjoyed it, so I was looking forward to this one. This was a good story, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as the last one. The writing and editing were good and the story flowed easily, but it just didn’t hold my attention the same way. The suspenseful parts were good, but didn’t knot up my stomach or make me clench my Kindle. I liked Evelyn and Luke as a couple, but I guess I always find it hard when a known womanizer suddenly becomes so driven to be with a woman that he really doesn’t know that well. However, this is romanceland and the rules are different here. I don’t know what it was about this book that took it from great to good, but I just didn’t have that urge to keep reading past my bedtime. When I had to put the book down to go about the rest of my day I didn’t keep thinking about it and running possible scenarios in my head as to what was going to happen next. The best part of the book was the end. No, no – don’t take it like that! It’s just that the end is kind of suspenseful and leaves us with a tantalizing glimpse into the next and final book of the series. I’ll definitely be picking that one up to see how it develops. I don’t want to come across as critical because I did enjoy the book. In fact I plan to go back and read the previous books in the series. I do like Ms Crowe’s style of writing. If you want a nice, easy-flowing read give this one a try.
First off, let me just say how much I love this series. It is sexy, suspenseful and witty. I have been waiting for Luke's story ever since I read Michael's in Touching the Boss. Luke and Evelyn did not disappoint. The dynamics between these two had sparks flying in Touching the Boss but things really ignited in this book.
Evelyn Price is the reserved, all business FBI agent who is out to prove she is ready to be back in the field. If she can get this one major case solved she can prove that she is 100% back and ready to move into the big league. The only problem with wrapping up this case is leaving behind the sexy, playboy Luke. She is everything she wants and nothing she needs. He is known for his playboy status of love them and leave them and as much as she desires him there is no room in her life for a man like Luke.
Luke wants nothing more that to get agent Price out of his business and out of his life. He will do whatever it takes to get the sexy FBI agent on her way so he can get his mind off her and back on business. He has been on edge ever since she came into their lives, baiting her and taking verbal stabs whenever he gets a chance. He doesn't understand what is up, he never is like this around a pretty woman. It is only when these two finally admit their mutual attraction that the walls come down and things heat up.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good, sexy romantic suspense.
I received an eARC of this book compliments of the publisher for my honest review and opinion. All ratings and opinions stated are my own.
As I started Testing The Boss I realized it was book 6 in a series. But I was very impressed that I could read it as a stand alone. Mallary Crowe did a excellent job of building the story and touching back on past events from other books ( I assume) to let the reader know what was going on in previous books. I do have many unanswered questions that will lead me to read the past books to have them answered.
Testing The Boss has a great love/hate story I went from hating Luke Devereaux ...of course he is rich and good looking and gets his way all the time. To loving him and rooting for his relationship with Evelyn Price who is a transferred FBI agent from Texas. I love a strong woman figure in a book who isn't depending on "the Man" to save her or fix the problems that she usually has created. Cudos to you Ms. Crowe for creating a great leading lady.
Story line: Evelyn Price wants to wrap up a case against ‘Thirteen Stars’, a crime ring, so she can put in for a transfer back to Texas. She strong arms Luke Devereaux CEO (whom there is some back history of loathing) to accept her as an intern to shadow his meetings with suspected crime syndicate members hoping for evidence against them. However, if something is going to go wrong it will and this leads to lots of excitement and time forcing Evelyn and Luke into close quarters.
This story is told from different POV's and doing so fills in the blanks of "what were they thinking?" Overall I really enjoyed this book and would highly suggest it. I now need to order the first 5 books so I know what caused the back history.
