Another fine release from HSTQ, must be very tough for the editors to pick the best of the best for each issue. Summer 2019 contains one of my favourite poems, OCD Lullaby by Casey Renee Kiser is brilliant, filled with potential for violence but taken over by the poets OCD, makes me chuckle every time.

Other top poems, In Control by Angelica Arsan and The Other Side of Nowhere New York by Alan Catlin.

And to finish things off there is Untitled 6/17/11 by Johnny Scarlotti...WTF is wrong with this guy? What kind of mind can come up with this poem? I love it!

Envy themes showed up in commentary on our times.

talking to a friend about our polyamorous friends
Scott Manley Hadley
and
Millennial Woes
Jonali Sorensen

The usual suspects appear as well -- booze, phallus (phalli?), poets on poets, etc.

I particularly enjoyed the medically themed poems in this collection --

ADHMe
Thumper Devotchka

OCD Lullaby
Casey Renee Kiser

and

Of My Wounds, There Are Many
Stephanie M. Wytovich

It is the juxtaposition of these similarly themed poems that make these quarterlies so interesting.

Better share this one quick before this much fun becomes illegal. Speaking of fun, let’s begin with this issue’s acid-trip ending. $carlotti gives us a thrilling new take on Jack and Rose and a just another day at the gym.. or is it? Dammit, what time is it?! Somebody bring me a bloody mary!! I’m too sober reading this and if I’m going to go on a hst binge, i need alcohol. Brb.
Ok, back in action. My faves here, but not limited to, are: ‘Control’ by Angelica Arsan ( who has quickly become one of my favorite babes of hst. ‘Honey’ by Mela Blust is super intriguing. ‘The Last Good Dream’ by the uncompromising J.J. Campbell. ‘ADHMe’ by Thumper Devotchka and ‘Of My Wounds, There are Many’ by another fave babe, Stephanie M. Wytovich. Excellent issue and now on to the next one after a quick refill. I don’t get many Saturday mornings to lounge these days. Hopefully I will be drunk by the time I read another $carlotti poem so I can process it without needing shock therapy later. Cheers.
