Six close friends. One terrible secret.

Bree has been counting down until her girls' weekend away with five of her close friends and she is more than happy to escape the responsibilities of family life for a few blissful days.

After everyone arrives and settles in for the first evening in their idyllic cabin in the woods, Bree suggests playing a game of Speak Your Truth. Not everyone is enthusiastic about the idea, but Bree eventually convinces her friends that the game will be fun and the confessions can remain anonymous.

However, the game takes a turn for the worse when a terrible secret concerning one of the women's husbands is revealed. As the weather turns nasty outside, the atmosphere in the cabin descends into one of suspicion and mistrust.

Who wrote the note? Why is she refusing to admit it? And which one of the friends broke the rules of the game?

The Game is a psychological thriller and domestic mystery that focuses on relationship issues, hidden secrets, and the sometimes brittle fragility of female friendships.

This book is captivating and enthralling. I was gripped right from the start with all the secrets Bree was initially harbouring and the promise of more to come.
Bree and her five friends are all escaping to a cabin in the woods for a few, very much needed, relaxing days of nothing more than wine, chatter and a beautiful setting.
However, things take a sinister turn after Bree recommends a game of ‘Speak Your Truth’. I’m not sure how she ever thought this was a good idea, but there wouldn’t have been a book without ‘The Game’! The weekend quickly takes a turn for the worst when the women decide to reveal all their deep and hidden secrets in the game.
I can’t say that any of the characters were particularly likeable; however, this didn’t stop you feeling invested in their lives and wanting to know which secret belonged to which woman. The storm brewing outside made for the perfect backdrop to the story.
I had thought with it only being 186 pages long that it wouldn’t have the meat in it that was needed to make this feel like a complete story. However, everything was covered, and you really felt as if you got to know the characters. I think if it had been any longer, it would have started to feel a bit drawn out, so the length was just perfect. It was also a great idea to cover the story from only Bree’s point of view. I think if the other characters had had alternating voices, it would have started to get overcomplicated, and in such a short book, this complexity wasn’t needed. The author did well to keep things simple and see everything with Bree’s voice.
I received this book free from the author in return for a review. I’m always quite sceptical about these requests as I’m never sure what I am going to end up reading. However, I can honestly say that this was a pleasant surprise. I was genuinely gripped by the storyline and even found myself thinking about the book when I was doing other things. I couldn’t wait to get back to reading to find out what was going to happen.
A fantastic read and I’m glad the author reached out to me, I will certainly be reading more of her work.

This story grabbed me in the beginning and would not let me go. I was glued to this book turning pages until the book was completed. I have had a similar experience in real life so this book seemed so real to me. I kept thinking, NO Bree, do not do this! But I still enjoyed every word. Excellent read.

This is a well written book with strong characters and an interesting story line. The author does a great job developing the story and pulls you in with the intrigue and drama between the six close friends. She kept me glued to the pages reading with her vividly painted scenes and building tension and suspicion amongst them as they play the game. I loved and highly recommend reading.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.

The Game is a gripping psychological thriller that captured my interest from the first page and kept me on the edge of my seat as I tried to figure out just which friend wrote the confession. Friendship, drama, confessions, suspense, and intrigue make this a real page-turner.

I received an ARC copy of this book to review.

Wow. I loved the synopsis for this book and the story did not disappoint! The reader is drawn into the intrigue as long term friendships collapse or dissolve... but who wrote the confession? Excellent reading.

A bit of chick lit

I liked thurs book. I started it last night and finished it today so it definitely keeps your interest. I don't know that I would label this a "normal" psychological thriller. Much mit in my opinion. Definitely secrets and some quite awful but not so much of a psychological thriller. I am going to check out other books by This author because I did really like it and it was well written. Characters were well formed. I like when I can picture the person in my mind. I would recommend this book.

Six women go on a long weekend getaway that was supposed to be fun and relaxing but quickly becomes a disaster.

Loved this book! It's well written, very captivating and hard to put down. Every character has a different personality that the author describes well, despite the fact that it is a shorter book.

I gave this book 4.5, because although the end twist was great, I wish there was more of a foreshadowing at the beginning. It would have made it even more shocking.

I highly recommend this fun quick read!

Four or five

This story really deserves five stares. From page one I was invested, intrigued. I got to know the characters, who each found a place in my heart, and I gasped for answers to the grouping questions created by The Game. This was a great read, but I had to remove a star for the poor editing. Lots and lots of typos. If you can past them. I definitely recommend this book.

This book was just ok. I felt like the last few chapters is where all of the action happened and it took a long time to get there. Great concept and ending.

This was a satisfying read. A seemingly harmless game reveals some dark secrets among friends. I was expecting a lot of cattiness a drama, but was pleasantly surprised by how the female friendship dynamic was explored. Additionally, the weight of keeping dark secrets and the aftermath of those revelations is deeply explored in this novel and is what makes it so powerful.
Fantastic storytelling and characterization. A very quick read. My only complaint would be the amount of grammatical errors.
I look forward to reading more of this author.
