This beautifully designed book offers a straightforward and honest way to address the subject of reproduction with young children. Too many children's books approach the topic of reproduction in an overly didactic style aiming to put the child at ease with a concept that the parent (not the child) feels uncomfortable discussing. Instead of pushing elaborately labeled diagrams, author and illustrator, Emily Farranto, offers the reader well-rendered, ink drawings of different animal couples mating paired with sparse text that breezily explains the who, what, why, and how of sexual reproduction.

This is a straightforward book, illustrated with scientific line drawings, that depict animals doing the deed and explaining mating behaviors as "an interesting part of nature." Honestly, it may satisfy some curiosity from adults too, regarding exactly how creatures such as giraffes, snails, and lizards manage it.
This book was no doubt inspired by kids asking questions about something they observed in nature, and wanting to give factual answers without being overly silly or graphic.

This book frankly admits its sneaky nature. Not designed to be formally presented to a child, but intended to be casually strewn about the house, just waiting for curious eyes; or nabbed as a response to an inquiry. This is a mild tour of the animal kingdom as it reproduces, with ample opportunity to expand on topics, gloss over others, address human reproduction, or take this topic as far as anyone is willing to go.

A fabulous introduction for the youngest inquirers.

Picture book that opens up questions to talk to your kids and teach them what you want them to know about reproduction. It’s like a gateway to a conversation. There’s nothing offensive here and therefore there is never “too much information”.
