U.S. Marshal Caleb Logue walks into Judge Allie Hayworth’s office to find the woman who wouldn’t marry him—and the son he didn’t know he had. Protecting them is his latest assignment, but Allie soon discovers Caleb’s main priority is getting to know his little boy—and making her agree to his proposal.
After all these years, nothing has changed—Allie refuses to marry a man whose idea of fun is dodging bullets. Not after she lost her own cop father when she was just a girl. Allie would do anything to protect her son from that type of pain. Marrying the marshal is definitely out of the question. But how can Allie refuse, when two identical pairs of green eyes look up at her, wanting her to say yes?
**This story is part of the U.S. Marshals series but is a standalone read.
After college, Laura Marie Altom did a brief stint as an interior designer before becoming a stay-at- home mom to boy/girl twins. Always an avid romance reader, when she found herself replotting the afternoon soaps, she knew it was time to try her hand at writing.
Chased by Laura Marie Altom U.S. Marshals Series Book Two U.S. Marshal Caleb Logue and his team was assigned to watch over a judge and her son. He didn't want the assignment. Eight years ago he had a relationship with said judge, but he couldn't get out of it. One look at the boy...and his world turned inside out.
Judge Allie Hayworth didn't think she'd ever have face Caleb again. She'd managed to avoid him for the past eight years...and yet, she knew one day she'd have to face her past. Her lies. Her fear.
Marrying the Marshal is the second in Laura Marie Altom’s U.S. Marshals series through Harlequin American Romance. Caleb Logue and Allie Hayworth were hot and heavy in law school, but when faced with an unplanned pregnancy, things fell apart.
Nearly a decade later, Caleb is assigned to protect Judge Hayworth...and her son. When he comes face to face with them, he realizes that not only did Allie refuse his proposal, she kept him from his son.
While Ms Altom has created a solid character in Allie and provided sound reasoning for her emotional reaction, Marrying the Marshal was still a difficult read. I find the secret baby trope hard to support, and that certainly colored my response to the story.
Caleb is justifiably upset to learn about his child, and determines to move forward rather than dwelling on the past. His supportive family (also serving as Marshals) play a role as well.
This story was well written. The reason why I gave it 3 stars was that I couldn’t bring myself to like Allie. Caleb was great and spent most of the book proving that, but Allie was just so set in her thinking that no matter what it didn’t seem that she trusted Caleb from his actions instead only thinking of her preconceived notions of him and his job. She definitely seemed like a bit of a hypocrite and she was unnecessarily harsh with Caleb. Like I said it was a good and well written story, but I couldn’t enjoy it as much because I didn’t like Allie.
I enjoyed this book, but Allie - the female lead, was a pain! Fears left over from the death of her father, influenced her relationships. Lots of ups and downs and quite a few bullets fly, but every now and then you wanted to smack some sense into Allie. However, the good outweighs the bad and it is a good book to read. The characters are interesting and the book keeps you going all the way to the end.
This is a standalone novel but also part of a series. Caleb and Allie have a complicated relationship. Allie has so many insecurities concerning Caleb and job as a U.S. Marshall. Caleb and Allie do get their HEA! But, Cal (Caleb and Allie's son) and his friends do steal the story! Love Claire and her "wisdom."
This was a different kind of story for me. I'm not one for a police story to much shooting, hospitals, and death. I like the romantic HEA stories, Well I was wrong. This story had it all.
Good story line with Allie being a judge who is being threatened and Clayson being a US Marshall sent to protect her and her son. Through fear for herself and her son (who is Claysons) they try to move thru her fear and find peace.
This is the 2nd in the series I have tried to read. I did not finish same as the 1st. I thought maybe the writing would get better, but no. The writing is poor, the story line not developed.
Unfortunately my recommendation is to not waste time or money on this series.
Wow Ms. Altom you had me in screaming fits with "The Judge" and her hysterical bias to being with a man with a badge! Otherwise this was a wonderful and beautiful AND exciting romance that kept me engrossed in every page!
Well lots of action with one heck of a surprise. Caleb really didn’t want to do this job. Allie refused help until she had no choice. When Caleb walk thru her door…..
This book grab me right from the very 1st page and kept me interested until the very last. Good characters and story line. Looking forward to more from this author
